- In this episode I moan quite a bit, I remember why its much easier to buy a car that is already tidy rather than wasting money on trying to make one tidy but I do manage to get the GSI MOT'd with zero advisories but I still have issues with the turbo leaking oil and I still need an ECU

MOT pass, result! Fighting you every step of the way mind. Don't lose faith, it's a cracking looking motor.
Surprised about ECU testing. I've had to used them twice, ABS modules, perfect each time. A mate owns a garage and he uses them a fair bit, reckons they're the best in the business.

Have to say mate I worked with vauxhall for 6 years thru my apprenticeship when these were still coming in have never seen an ecu failure, least u know gor sure it is fkd tho. I've seen this abs comm fault with a map installed that's not for that particular model. If you have access to a vauxhall dealer u can get them to sps it back to standard if u have sec code 👍
ECU failure is common on these for various reasons and I I have tech 2 / TIS etc but no security code for the spare ECU unfortunately or I would have wiped it. An ABS daily with a MAP is a poorly mapped ECU.

Shame about the trades situation where you are. If its any consolation it's no better slightly further south where I am either. I only trust one garage near me and one other guy who is a Rover specialist and that's it. Nobody does bodywork, welding, any kind of electrical work and exhaust places are either fast fit, or custom places that will only work on expensive German cars 🤷♂️ Hopefully you'll get out to a few shows, I'm going going to take the Cav to a show at Glamis on 4th August, can't wait!
What’s the event on 4th August? I noticed there is a retro Vauxhall show at Crail in August too 🤔
@@AMSVauxhall It's Glenisla Classic Car Club annual show. I'm not in the club or anything but a Rover buddy of mine is the treasurer. Anyone can just come along though. The only issue with Crail is I have to drive on that road up the coast in a slow car like mine, takes an eternity 🙈 I did enjoy blasting along it in my Saab on my way back from St Andrews a few months ago though 😬
@@split_pin oh I’m going to a Glenisla classic car show but it’s just on Sunday 7th the one I’m going to. I must admit, I haven’t enjoyed Crail the last couple times I’ve been as it’s a younger generation with bought VXRs / GTCs 😏 I much prefer the older stuff 😁
@@AMSVauxhall Where did I get 4th from, that's a Thursday 🙈. I'm going to the same show as you then, hopefully bump into you, are you taking the Gsi? Same here about Crail, Astra MK4 and a Vectra B are as new as I go with Vauxhalls, even then I prefer the 1990s stuff. Plus it's the coldest field in Scotland 🤣
@@split_pin I was just going to take the landy but I will see nearer the time. The GSI isn’t really show condition but I could maybe do a write up about the build / UA-cam vids etc. Bit of shameless self promotion ☺️
Don't remember seeing it but have you checked the coolant control unit.
