  • The most ‘Paula Abdul' member of the PetrolBlog fleet is edging closer to an MOT test. Apologies for the wind noise and waffle. Will make future videos shorter and less tedious. Still, the car looks remarkable.

    This side of a Ferrari this is simply one of the most beautiful coupes ever. I had 406 saloons as company cars back in the mid 90s and coverted one of theses... and still do!

      I recall that even the saloon versions had a reputation for handling very well.

      I don't think there's a bad angle on the 406 Coupé. Beautiful.

    I owned a 1999 v6 coupe 15 years ago. Simply the best car I've ever owned. what a masterpiece.. that only became more and more apparent after owning many new much more expensive cars since then. nothing beats it.

    Another great video. I watch for the simplicity and down to earthness. Never get any more professional 😂 as a side note, where do you get the number plates? I'm after one for my pre 2000 😉😉

      "Never get any more professional” - no chance of that!
      As for the plates, I used fancyplates.com for these. Check out Retro Plates on Instagram - I'll be using them for the ZX.

    Well done. Really good to see the coop so nearly back on the road. It is a very satisfying thing to get what looked like a dead car, back to a tidy and useable state. Just a crazy thought, I was watching Coldwarmotors the other day. Scott is rebuilding a Ford model T and he can get just about every part for a nearly 100 year old car. And now, parts for quite serviceable, fairly recent cars are just gone. I know the logic of holding stock for obsolete cars and all that but it just seems a bit nuts? Probabl just me being stupid.

    Have you changed the gearbox oil yet ?. Absolute must on the Asin Warner SN51-55 gearbox. Peugeot, Renault, Volvo, and Saab all said the gearbox was sealed for life. But thats a big no. Asin Warner say oil change at 75,000 miles. Use correct Esso 3309 type oil. You will need 9 Litres to do 3 Drains and re-fills, to get most of the oil out of the torque converter. Running for 15mins between each drain.

    • @Petrolblog
      @Petrolblog  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the tip - really appreciate it. Will change the oil if/when it gets through the MOT.

    It's not easy doing the camera work as well but you shouldn't worry too much. It's not so bad as to spoil my viewing pleasure.
    I've been mostly using a smart phone to press which is ok, generally falls to hand etc...
    I've recently started using a DJI Osmo Action camera and the image stabilization is superb. 👌 That said there are issues such as the on board audio is shocking unless you use additional audio equipment. I would like to try using a DSLR but the cost can soon run away..

    • @Petrolblog

      Cheers Mark. I reckon I need more practice with a gimbal, but I will need to invest in some new kit for in-car footage.

    • @markonmotoring
      @markonmotoring 2 роки тому

      @@Petrolblog I've not yet invested in a gimbal.
      I've used suction cup type phone mounts inside the car and they vary in quality (and stability). If you were to use a go pro or DJI Osmo action the Go Pro mounts for both and the suction cup has never failed me for interior or exterior use.

    For the exhaust put some vactan on it, it'll stop the rust and prime for some metallic paint, shame the car wasn't made before 1990 then you could legitimately go full serck
