    In this video I outline how to use Alear on Maddening in terms of classes, upgrades, passives, etc.
    This guide is aimed at the early/midgame. I will be making an advanced guide that covers emblem rings and endgame unit builds.

    Honestly on maddening I prefer to leave alear in their unique class for the type bonuses with certain emblems like corrin/camilla or byleth, although byleth is often better on a mystical unit. While lacking 1-2 range outside of the levin sword you can always pickup advance from Roy or something like that and there's enough combat units in this game that I like to leave alear as this swiss army knife of sorts.

  • @SeraviSays

    Definitely number one incentive to staying on Divine Dragon is the Dragon unit type for ring bonuses, particularly Corrin. My Alear felt far behind my other powerhouses on Maddening but I settled for letting them chip targets with Levin Sword, moving to a favorable spot with Canter, and allowing others to beat down that target more freely. Having access to both Fire and Fog dragon veins is also great for flexibility, and the other types occasionally help. It's definitely a waste of damage potential given Alear's poor magic growth but it has been fairly effective.

    • @IcedCoffeeGaming
      @IcedCoffeeGaming  Рік тому

      Outside of Corrin is there any advantage in your opinion to staying on Dragon Unit Type?

    • @spongbobsquarepants3922

      @@IcedCoffeeGaming There is Byleth, who boosts all stats by 3. That is pretty nice, and Alear does not have a very high personal strength growth, so coupled with the crazy defenses of enemies later, committing to the support role is at least a solid option. There is also the late game celica, who with a chain attack party, gives extra range on Warp Ragnarok and Echo, which pairs nicely with the fact that enemies are corrupted in the end, and you also get Favorite Food for free. So after you are done engaging, or are done with engage+, you can quickly re-engage with a meal. The reason I propose Celica is because she is not in demand, and when you are in Engage mode, you lose the previous emblem, so you should keep the best rings not on Alear.

    • @SeraviSays
      @SeraviSays Рік тому +4

      @@IcedCoffeeGaming Could make a case for Roy (larger area on Blazing Lion, +Str for Alear in general) or Byleth (all stats+3 on rally/dance) but definitely not to the same degree as Corrin. Tiki among the DLC ones has a unique breath that creates fog tiles in a weird pattern (you hit a T shape with the attack and make 4 total fog tiles to the left and right of the area), gives a small heal on revival stone, and has the obviously good +15 to all growths. But outside of those cases I wouldn't say Dragon type is crazy strong. There are some interesting Dragon effects on the more magic-oriented rings (+1 range on Celica Echo sticks out) but they're not really suited to Alear.

    • @Rex13013
      @Rex13013 Рік тому

      @@SeraviSays Yeah I agree, a lot of the other rings outside Byleth, Corrin and Camilla give great bonuses to dragon but you can't do anything with that since Alear's stats in that class are not good enough to reap the benefits.

    If you run DLC Camilla Divine dragon is really good doing attacking always does aoe 10% of enemy HP and gives flier movement whenever engaged along with different dragon veins and AoE of Engage attack being larger. Upgrading Liberation to +5 and giving it the Marth engrave was really handy for me. In particular it was a very accurate weapon, making it reliable.
    Now, since I’m approaching late game (I’ve just done chapter 17), I’ve given her Byleth for the +3 to all stats buff from instruct (I could even inherit favourite food later on to more frequently support the team). I would stick to DD or Swordmaster because of Alear’s relatively low build. Fortunately Liberacion being a relatively cheap upgrade can help early with the lower strength growth.
    Alcryst and Alear might fight over energy drops, but if the strength is sliding their is ways to patch it up with Emblems.
    If you play with DLC I’d say stick with DD and inherit Starsphere from Tiki and you’ll be fine on stats.
    Obviously the earlier the better, but fortunately the game wants you to get tiki before losing your rings so it should be fine.

    I've had a ton of success with griffin knight sword Alear paired with Roy in the endgame, have used that for 2/3 of my maddening runs post chapter 19. He makes up for two of Alear's issues as griffin knight. First, sword power compensates really well for the worse strength compared to wyvern in getting damage through. Second, if you inherit avoid skills from Marth I've found endgame GK Alear tends to have too much avoid so enemies have a 0% hit rate and start ignoring them lol. With sword power's -10 avoid, enemies kept attacking but had around a 6% hit rate on average. Depends on how the numbers line up for you, but if you find Alear gets too evasive in the endgame and units stop attacking them give Roy a shot.

    Do you think there's any viability for Sage Alear? Testing it now on my first maddening run. With modifiers gets 50 percent mag growth and naturally high speed. Gets better personal passive positioning and can attack from range/hit some of the stronger defensive types and would work well along with Ivy and Anna as a solid offensive magic core to run other physical carries. Byleth and Corrin seem to be good options for Mystic units.

    • @IcedCoffeeGaming

    • @autisonm
      @autisonm Рік тому +2

      I'd say High Priest > Sage since it has more weapon diversity and having Alear be a staff unit allows them to remain somewhat safe while maybe contributing every once in awhile, plus their passive is just location based. As for stats Alear has 35/20 Str/Mag growths which pairs well with High Priest giving 25 Mag for a total of 35/45 Str/Mag. While High Priest has 5 less Mag growth than Sage it has 5 Spd growth which is more important than 5 Dex growth that Sage has. High Priest also gets 15 more Lck growth too which helps hit, avo, and dodge. Also, for some reason High Priest has higher stat caps in everything except Mag and Dex. Most notably HP, Spd, Lck, and Bld.
      The best part is that Alear starts with a fists/martial arts proficiency so you dont need Tiki or Byleth. Disclaimer though, I dont play maddening.

      Alear as a Sage is fine. I’m running it on Maddening at the moment, and I’m enjoying it. When they first promote, it’s a bit rough. But with Staff access, you can get a couple of level ups in magic somewhat quickly. And magic is good to chip and last hit. To make it a tiny bit easier, I’d give Alear a spirit dust just to give them a little bit of magic.

    • @starberry_lemonade
      @starberry_lemonade Рік тому +2

      @@autisonm I’m a little confused here. Sage has staff access, so staff access isn’t a pro for High Priest. Either class, you would still need to grind bond levels for staff and tome proficiency. With how arts/fist damage is calculated as an average from magic and strength, fists aren’t great early game. You need a few levels to make art/fists do damage.
      I’d prefer going Sage for the higher magic growth, more useful class ability, and how the class looks.

    I actually think Wolf Knight Alear is the best Lucina user in the game, and their utility in this role outweighs the potential benefit they would offer the team as a combat unit enough for low strength to not really be an issue.
    Lucina's most standout traits are Bonded Shield and Dual Assist+. Bonded Shield having 100% chance on compatible movement types makes it good on cavalry, fliers, and chi adepts, while Dual Assist can enable a dagger unit to perform chain attacks, which lets you poison enemies for free without even having to attack. Wolf Knight is the only class that allows you to do both of these on one Lucina user. The reason I think Alear performs best in this role more than any other unit is both because of their personal skill, and because they support with every unit in the game which gives them the most flexibility in utilizing Dual Support, and therefore the most flexible in who your mage knights in the bonded shield set up get to be. Alear will support with all of them no matter what, AND give them each +3 attack.
    Alear also has a 70% speed growth in this class which can make things easier, and if you want them to perform well in combat while not engaged, you could inherit Lunar Brace on them. They won't be one rounding things, but their contributions won't be insignificant either. Though the highest priority skill here is Canter+. With Canter+, you can attack any 5 movement enemy at 2 range, reduce their movement to 3, then move three spaces away, preventing them from attacking Alear on enemy phase. This allows Alear to perform effectively in a hit and run role while not engaged, which is already a utility I like for Wolf Knights, but this build just maximizes the utility one Wolf Knight can have. If you have the SP for it, Lunar Brace could still maybe be the second skill, but Mentorship is what I'd go with just because in running Bonded Shield, Alear's going to be adjacent to the units getting the most kills anyway.
    Alear's combat will certainly worse off than it'd be in something like Wyvern, but they're in an invaluable utility unit in return. You can also let them grow in Wyvern first before switching over if you want to get their strength a bit higher.

      Yes, its tied to the unit, not the class. I for example already was a swordmaster when i got it and could use it.
      Similary the other dragon unit should also be able to use her unique magic if you reclass her to a magic using class or her special dagger, if you go for a dagger class. I personally kept her on her original class however.

    Alear has been slandered at realese as one of the worst lord ever, people seem to realise now than he/she is actually quite good. The first few levels are rough but once you level up he/she quickly becomes quite strong. In my experience it's one of the best physical attacker in the game but you have to treat him/her as a growth unit which is fine since you are forced to deploy Alear every map from chapter 1 anyway.

      I really couldn’t make alear work. Technically her growths are pretty solid but her base strength is bad and her strength growth isn’t good enough to make up for it. At level 10 she on average will have 10.5 strength which is just not enough. I tried class changing her a few times but eventually just went back to dragon and gave her byleth emblem to go full support role. Which has honestly made her really useful with the by far best rally and dance. Definitely not the worst lord by a long shot but also nothing special as a combat unit if you ask me.

      Well engage is alot less dishonest then other old FE games. Many will say its just easier but when you break it down, what makes it feel easier is mostly that you can see whats coming and how it will play out. All the info is present and the mechanics are less obtuse then older games. Yes engaging is strong but even that isn't as op as people want to make it sound (DLC excluded). You get 10 time crystals for a mistake and can save inside of a map on every turn after every action. Nothing the game could ever do will ever be as hard as when you couldn't see or calculate every outcome and then were forced to restart the gba/ds after a single death and replay the whole chapter. Id argue the only thing they need to reel in is the sheer amount of charges present in maddening. The game is designed around you having them and does make many mechanics feel less bullshit. But with 10 of the damn things it can often feel like i cant lose unless im just being dumb
