I live in Costa Rica and just bought a house. The previous owner was a cactus and succulent collector. She brought most of her pots with her but left me a fair selection plus all the cactii she had planted in the ground which were quite large and vigorous. I have always been an orchid lover so this collection required a real leap of faith for me. I have gradually become a devotee all the whole still learning. I think I have actually killed one with too much water but it might revive with some luck and resilience. Anyway, wanted to thank you for this vid' because my appreciation grew by leaps and bounds. An absolutely fascinating trip through a land I would have previously considered barren. I subscribed so hope to keep watching your videos and learning as I go. Much appreciated! (P. S. I wish cactii were not so deadly unforgiving. OUCH 😏)
Kathleen - thanks for the comment. I love that your getting “hooked” on cacti. They are a truly interesting plant family for sure as are orchids. Hopefully the one in your yard bounces back. They can be quite resilient indeed. Thanks for subscribing. Much appreciated.
@@CactusQuest 🤞I hope so too. I hate to lose a plant to my own ignorance especially one that has thrived for years. I fear it is hopeless. It is a mushy mess. But since some of its 'hijos' are still green I am thinking of planting them in a new pot and starting from scratch. Still, I feel guilty of cactus abuse. Bawaaaa 😕
I get that it's relaxing to just hang out among plants in nature....I 💭 for many of us a big reason why we adore our indoor gardens is because it allows us to keep nature inside with us so we can have a little of that serenity & peace all the time😊🌵🌱🪴🏵️.
Just returned to NorCal from an epic 4000 mile road trip down the Baja peninsula and back. By far, the highlight for me were the Boojum trees. I could easily spend the rest of my life studying the biogeography and evolutionary biology of this amazing species!
Never thought of the desert as being full of life, but I see it now. And there are so many different types of plants, too... I'm glad I came across your channel!
I truly love Mexico and it’s beautiful culture and diverse flora are obviously enchanting truly sad to see anyone pillage and plunder Mother Earth. There’s a better way.
Brilliant video. I live in the UK and chances are that I wouldn't make it to the places you show, so it's nice to follow people like you to enjoy the scenery and plants. I only got into cacti a bit over a year ago. So thanks for taking us with you
Thanks guys. I was afraid to click on the video. I had an unhealthy addiction to all these plants from 2002. Too many bugs in Florida and of course the humidity just soured my heart. What is still growing is huge and I've had them long enough to forget all their names. I'm good. Wonderful video though.
Great video, I really enjoyed it, just subscribed! I visited Baja California Sur for the first time this year and fell in love with the flora and landscape, so this video is perfect! Thanks for sharing this beautiful part of the world with us!
Wow! That was such a treat to see those awesome plants in their natural habitat. Those Boojums and Pachycormus were stunning - two of my all-time favorite plants! Thanks for sharing that with us. 😍🌵
thank you for this! Used to do this; seems like another life now; all areas & all flora, fauna too. Now i can't and your channels is pure healing magic. Glad i found it finally. Subscribed a few days ago. PEACE! Blessed be Mother Earth!
Just found your channel and am so excited! We spend our winters in Baja California Sur and absolutely love the native flora. Am learning more everyday! Thank you for your content!
Awesome video, Hunter. Wow what a place, absolutely incredible plants. Would be my dream to visit there, maybe one day. Cheers for sharing another awesome quest with us 👍🏻🌵☀️🌼🏜
When Dudleya Brittonii is stressed it's more likely to become Crested or bifurcated , so in a container or in rocks it can Crest and in open ground it's usually solitary.
Oh my god that spot you said was your favorite with the Washingtonia and Brahea palms was so gorgeous 😍😍😍😍 And with those Boojums and pachycereus mixed in! Unreal! The density of plant species is insane!! Thank you for making this video! It was basically plant porn for people who love this stuff 😂😂😂😂
Awesome as always brother!! that ecology is mind blowing🤯 we’ll get out for a quest soon man, in the mean time gonna catch up on all the vids while I recover lol!
Increible video. Gracias por mostrar todo lo que está muy alejado para algunos aqui en el sureste de Méx. . 17:00 en Oaxaca los conocemos como "Copales" es el árbol sagrado.
love this vid! how cool is that little canyon with palms? the green palm is Washingtonia and the gorgeous blue/silver palm is Brahea. Just amazing that you get this native mix of succulent plants and palms there.
O my goodness.. saguaros, red barrel, and other cacti grows naturally in California. How I wish I could have those here in my small collections. Is it prohibited to collect those species of cacti in your state?
Hello from Arizona! Saguaros and many other succulents grow here too. Saguaros are protected by the state so it is illegal to take one from the wild. But you can get one from a nursery!
I watched this video hoping you would come across the totem pole cactus 🌵 in the wild …. I’m a super fan of the obese, skinny, and spiralis TP. Maybe next time…
Great question - short answer, No it is not allowed. Illegal and heavily frowned upon. There are reputable nurseries who have been growing many of these plants from seed and they are available in cultivation. No need to pillage the earth.

This landscape is on another level
"Time is the only real currency." Wise words my friend. We are defined by what we do with our time.

Your love and passion for these & all plants is just inspiring and gives me hope for humanity.
Thank you. Glad to hear that. Well read that.
Awesome episode. “crime pays but botany doesn’t” without a Jersey accent. 😝
Absolutely! Tony needs to come here too !!
Its like a heaven on earth for me 🤩🤩🤩
Hug that tree!!!
I am right there with you. Tree hugger for sure. ✌🏽
I enjoyed going on a virtual trip with you! Thanks Hunter.
It makes me very happy to see foreigners enjoying Mexican plants. It hurts that the people of MX extract them from habitat to sell them as if nothing
I truly love Mexico and it’s beautiful culture and diverse flora are obviously enchanting truly sad to see anyone pillage and plunder Mother Earth. There’s a better way.
Thanks. This was so much needed,

Brilliant video 🙂 Ought to check the subtitles at 2.19 though 😲😄🌵🌵
What is it called when a cactus gets old and turns brown near the base and almost turns woody?
Loved the trip- thanks from your Aussie friend. My heart was racing to experience such wonders.
I'm watching it from Japan
It was a good tour
Beautiful landscapes. You'd have to be brave (or foolish) to walk around there without sturdy shoes
Just watching you walking through the Baja checking the different cactus. I see you wearing a jacket. What are the temperatures in this area?
When Dudleya Brittonii is stressed it's more likely to become Crested or bifurcated , so in a container or in rocks it can Crest and in open ground it's usually solitary.
What an awesome cactus experience. I assume collecting is not allowed !!!???
I really like this.

Hello, I know this was a year ago but can you please tell me what the guitar music was at the beginning minutes of the video? Such pretty guitar.
Would love to join you on those trips, beautiful!!
Love from Amsterdam/ Holland 🇳🇱
Wow, just wow!!! 😍👍☀️
Another awesome video bro. Thank you, you’re living the dream. How do you know every plant by name, last name, and social security number 😲
Love the boojums. Do you all do group trips down?
Así de hermoso es el Estado de Baja California México 🇲🇽🤠🏜️
Tengo El privilegio de haber nacido aquí 💚🤍❤️
What was the hotel you stayed at?
You guys should write a book on this area.
Very interesting!
Glad you think so!
i love videos like this 😻
Hahahaha the MamillariA into the Metallica logo 😂😂🤘🤘💚

I do know a locality where they grow but it was much further south than we were able to get this time. Yes hopefully next time.
@@CactusQuest it would be awesome to encounter a village of Totem Pole Cactus out in the wild.
I’m blown away-
dig your show
Heaven
"Beautiful and dried up almost looks like a meth head" what a reference 👌 👏 😆
😍😍
muito lindo
👍🏼👍🏼
You should do a collaboration with crimepaysbutbotanydoesnt
💪🏻✅
Fuuuck yeah, bud (pun intended).
That Chente sample 👌🏼
Made that for this video. Hell yeah.
easy now...
There are no cactus seedlings in nature. I have never seen one in person or a photo of one therefore they do not exist.
That armed guard...... was likely gulf cartel or AFO..... be careful out there guys...carry cash, but not a lot of it!
Lol
There’s an observatory/telescope up there.. not every is cartels
Can u take any off these or are it's not allowed
You will go straight to jail. All plants are protected by the federales. MexAme who lives at the Calexico/ Baja border
Great question - short answer, No it is not allowed. Illegal and heavily frowned upon. There are reputable nurseries who have been growing many of these plants from seed and they are available in cultivation. No need to pillage the earth.
Mamalaria beaver face
All the sound effects really detract from this video
Who's Dr Suess?
拍这些视频真不容易
My OCD wants to clean all the dead leaves off and check them for mealy bugs 🥴🫶🏻
