My stepdad took me to his hometown in Guanajuato when I was 15 years old. Stayed in MX for about 2 months and it was the best two months of my life. I do remember the massive cacti and the variety of habitats. Seeing desert turn to jungle then pine forest and then more desert all in a 4 hour bus ride. Love Mexico
Man, I love watching your videos. In the last year or so I've given up a lot of crappy hobbies/habbits I've had and have gotten really interested in succulents and cactus and I feel like this hobby has done wonders to bring me back into the present moment on a much more regular basis than I used to be, and when I hear you talk about the plants you see, I can tell that we feel the same excitement and wonder and awe about them. Thanks for making these videos and showing the plants you do, I appreciate it
❤ i love your channel. Not only do you bring awesome footage of cacti and other plants, your deep observations of human history is very enlightening. I enjoyed seeing those massive Beaucarnea in habitat. Beaucarnea recurvata is a species I enjoy growing. Thank you for your highly informative and totally badass videos.
I live in Querétaro Mexico, in an arid climate hill, and every day I go for a walk I can see many species of cacti, as a cacti lover, I can say México is a cacti paradise. Nice video Bro !!!
i love what you narrated in the middle of the video... and i truly feel that way too about nature vs humanity/society's internal fight for power... keep going CREST QUEST LETSSS GHOOOO
Perfect cacti. After all, when they grow in their own environment, they are the most beautiful, even if their life is threatened by a volcano. I see that the subsoil is of volcanic origin.
Great video, thanks for the info on Calibanus Hookeri , and the Cycad was likely the local Dioon Holmgrenii which I was fortunate to visit in the early 90's.
@@CactusQuest it was a blast back then and it still is, however there were a lot more Plant's to discover then. I think the Dioon Habit that I visited is probably a Corn field by now, I got the directions from my friend Loren Whitelock who was the keeper of secret Habit knowledge back then.
I enjoy watching these tours into the desert. The big cacti in habitat are amazing. I will have to see some of this stuff in person one day. Home in Australia, no native cacti.
I spent proof my life in the Sonoran Desert…still my favorite place. Decades ago, I had a cactus collection and was very careful not to collect anything endangered and tried not to take wild collected because I could already see the impact over collection was having on the environment. It’s much easier now to find things which were greenhouse grown. Hubby grew up on the East Ciast, where I knew Lu e and is crazy for succulents.
Have you ever see cold hardy opuntia or eastern prickly pear there the most northern of cactuses I have one here in mass there native range is up to Canada.
This would be great for me . I notice very miniscule differences in my surroundings most certainly my plants and their surroundings. You would probably love to dig at the diamond mines here in Arkansas. There is also a plethora of trails and camping .
In case you still read this... question. at 21 minutes, there are 4 nice thick bamboo shutes who appear to be in tiny pots. What's up with that haha? Were they actually growing in there? They look waaaaay too thick to be growing in any convined pot, but perhaps that's just because of my lack of experience :) I bought some Phyllostachys earlier this year, the man had buckets with some growing for 5 and even 8 years in there. Meanwhile, the ones in the ground with the same age were multiple times thicker
I have a Ferocactus latispinus! He lives under strong grow lights indoors, so is very slow growing, but i try to give it and my other cactus (Echinopsis) winter rests. Also, did I see some wild growing aloe in some of the shots near the mammilaria corwinskia? Aloe are probably my other fave desert succulent :)
Hollllyy crap. Man I wish I could go see this place in person. It's wild thinking such beauty exists. More wild to think that it is getting destroyed and species like the purpusii are so unvalued that they just bulldoze them. What an absolutely amazing plant! It's a pity that the marble mining is the most 'valuable' job in the area instead of something like ecotourism or something that protected the plants and supported them like Aus has done with the Wollemi pines.

you said it. the variety of different biomes is wild. Part of my heart lives in Mexico.

17:38 Life finds a way, eh Quest?
брат, спасибо за видео))
Great video. If you are ever in Sonoma County try to go to lone pine nursery.
At 23:04 what species of tree is that? the whiteish knarrly trucked tree. Is it a succulent?
