“Do Not Be A Monster, Parker!”
Turns out he was, just not the kind you thought he could be
Just an average good looking tenager that want only to enjoy girls company , its not the average teen but the average good looking one ,nothing evil just hormones :)
re the stunt doubles, remember back in the day we didn't have Full HD on tap. In fact most people still had Cathode Ray Tubes....
"If he loses some kind of soul after this, the poor girl is going to be scarred." Well you have to have a soul in order to lose one, we don't think Parker Abrams ever did
Liking Spike is completely fine, he is such a great character!
Being entertained is one thing but liking him? He's evil.
You see Harmony being bitten in the battle against the mayor at the end of series 3, but you don't know she's a vampire rather than just dead until this episode.
Willow survived a bite, so could have Harmony.
Spike has killed a couple of slayers before, and it's a major bragging point for him. He wasn't crazy to think he had a good chance against Buffy with his new super powers, and it would be an unimpressive start to his new life as a super vampire if his first act after getting the ring was running away. He might have come out better in the end if he hadn't pointed out the ring to Buffy and given her a target.
Yup. Just to add to what you're saying, in a real hand-to-hand fight, it's pretty much unheard of for one fighter to be able to take a ring off the finger of their opponent. I mean, nobody's trained to do that.
There are no techniques for it. That's probably why Spike gave her the target; he figured it was safe.
Spike also should not have mentioned Buffy's relationship to Angel. He made her angry.
Or if he had not involved himself with Harmony. Otherwise no one would have been the wiser. Then who knows, Who knows👉🏼👃🏼👈🏼?
He should have worn it as a toe ring
I agree Spike is the strongest Vampire I have seen in Buffy-vers.
I like seeing the return of 3 characters, Spike, Anya and Harmony. Nice episode title also with its double meaning.
I always thought it would be so funny to let Harmony have the gem forever. The most invincible vampire on earth be a valley girl from Sunnydale.
Buffy would absolutely have to kill her. Harmony may be 'valley girl' but she is still a killing machine.
Spike's got a history of impatience when it comes to plans, so it makes sense that he'd go after Buffy immediately rather than holding back until he's had a chance to think about it. The obvious thing to do, assuming it would work, is to wear the ring on a toe under a sock and boot, making it far harder to remove.
So in the US, we have comforters that are like duvets but without a cover that goes over them. We sometimes also have a thinner bedspread that we use when it's too warm for a comforter, And then we have a thinner top sheet that goes between the comforter or bedspread and the bed/bottom fitted sheet. Honestly, I didn't even know what a duvet was until I studied abroad when I was in uni.
Every compliment paid to Parker I imagined another layer of clown make-up being added :D
We all went through it. The actor did an amazing job, it was a *perfect* way to illustrate how toxicity isn't always obvious & can very much resemble the genuine article (all while correctly attributing the issue being the lack of honesty, rather than simply casual relations)
"Is it too hot for duvet's in America"
Maybe in California, but Alaska is still America and that's north of Scotland ;)
I only sleep under a quilt in winter, I'm already back to a single blanket... and I'm a Brummy. Gets way too hot and stuffy under too many covers! (though it IS nice in winter. Seems we really had a cold one just gone too, even without the snow)
Parker is such a joke character, it's way too obvious that he's human garbage. He even has sociopath eyes.
It's not as crazy as you think to attack Buffy, if Spike has killed two slayers before. He's obsessed with killing her (the truces were temporary). Now that Dru's gone and he is the immediate danger, their relationship is back on track, in his mind, thus why he didn't leave. Technically speaking, Spike lost only because he brought Angel up. The writer of this episode said there was a cut line of Buffy's, while talking to Willow at the end of the episode, with Buffy saying sleeping with Parker was all about trying to get over Angel (which actually shows her attempting to use Parker for sex subconsciously, and a little more long term than Parker's one night usage) and cutting the line made Buffy a little too naïve about the situation, even on her attempted usage. So when Spike throws Angel in Buffy's face after what he saw Parker did, she gets angry at Spike, who loses the fight. Loses to the point of Buffy ripping the ring off his hand. Which also shows why Spike shouldn't have indicated to her what the gem was.
Good reaction on seeing Spike for the first time, thinking Willow was going to die, and the lightbulb moment for Parker being a "dickhead," as was said by Dakara in the video.
I remember when this was originally airing thinking the actor who played Parker was a bad actor, when really, he was good at playing bad pick-up lines to the audience as phony genuine lines without indicating his hand.
Spike wants to kill Buffy...also Spike is impulsive and makes bad decisions.
Paker should have been honest about what he wants. Who knows - there are a lot of girls who are ok with that sort of thing. And if both know that it's just a one night stand there's nothing wrong about it. But lying about it... That's not ok.
Girls now a days back then women had respect for sex.
For him the hunt is half the pleasure. He gets off on getting girls to fall for him and then use them.
@@ScarlettM exactly
@@ScarlettM From the 3x04 transcript: Faith: It's not cynical. I mean, it's realistic. Every guy from... Manimal down to Mr. I-Love-The-English-Patient has beast in him. And I don't care how sensitive they act. They're all still just in it for the chase.
1:45 No idea what you're taking about but there is nothing Joss Whedon wouldn't do so don't go around thinking anyone is safe.
I really feel bad for buffy at the end of the episode same goes for harmony because she's nothing but a rebound for spike to make himself forget about drusilla
I've listened to the Bif naked song lucky ones from this episode about a hundred times recently.
"You're a pig, Spike" - truer words!
The moment Parker tries to make Buffy the bad one with his fear that she could hurt his ego... that's when you join the "We hate Parker" club
God I totally hate parker 😡🤬
seriously, probably one of the most hated guy in the Buffyverse ( that's human ). the thing is, one night stands are't bad at all, if both people consent to it being only that...what makes Parker a monster is he made NO move to communicate that that's all he wanted out of Buffy. he completely led her on, made her think he actually liked her, and she was only consenting to a possible relationship with him. the next time they talk, he's trying to pull an Uno reverse card by claiming he was being very transparent about the one night stand and that Buffy misunderstood and is the one is the wrong, and while she's clearly hurting and confused, he was just worried about his own ego being hurt. Parker is a trash person. like if he would actually communicate that all he was wanting was a one night stand, Buffy could decide from there what she wanted to do and it would have been fine. he wouldn't be the bad guy....but its like he knew she'd say 'no' to it and played into it then gaslit her.
Dear Mr Editor...
Yes Dakara is to trustfull and good hearted... but the stamp was a bit to much... 😉
Duvet & comforter are interchangeable here really. But people who live in snowy states would probably use the term Duvet more. I'm from Cali, comforter is what I grew up with.
Great episode. Great eaction. Great editing. I never actually fell for Parker and that's not just me being smug (I've fallen for plenty of bad 'uns in my time), it's just his eyebrows put me off. 🤣 The thing is about him - he's all like "I thought I made it clear." Well no, buddy, you didn't because if it had been spelled out that this was a one time only thing Buffy would never have gone there. It's just not the ways she operates.
I think you're right though, there's definitely things that can be learned and character progression attained from situations like this.
You're reaction to Spike being back was just what I hoped, there was such glee in your voice and expression. And yeah, we've all been there. We know we're not supposed to like him but...🤷♀
Buffy is looking for a relationship and poop-head just wanted another notch as a trophy.
> That ring seems to make a vampire have similar abilities of an original in Vampire Diaries.
25:30 Well it's also that as a demon Anya was immortal. And she's really aware that she now has a finite time remaining. She's staring mortality straight in the face where she never expected to have to face it. That's part of why she's impatient and forward. Also her experience of human couplings is somewhat skewed because if the kind of situations that led to her being summoned.
This is an interesting episode about newish relationships and how they work out depending upon what kind of people are in them. Parker was using his psychological intelligence and puppy dog eyes to have as many hookups as he can, while Buffy was looking for something real, which Parker (the human monster of taking advantage) played on - and Buffy blames herself because of the mind fuck Angelus did to her after her first experience with Angel. Anya was completely blunt about her interest in Xander and he was at least interested in the interlocking bodies part of it, but what is he going to do next and how will Anya feel? Then Harmony and Spike are together and at least on the same page about sex, but neither one really seems to care about the other person outside of bed.
Ladies, let this be a lesson: if a man is not willing to make a commitment BEFORE sex, he will not make a commitment AFTER sex.
Spike should of put the ring on his toe
Back in the day I fell for Parker's bs as well, so watching your evolving reaction had me in a fit of giggles
Flat out brilliant. Some of your lines Jayne were on par with this excellent episode. Sharon per usual is the finest editor on the platform.
Watching you react to this episode was pure joy!! I laughed so much and of course, stupid me, I kept on answering to you through the screen (didn't you hear me?!! 🤣)
I remember I was very upset the first time I watched it, the fact she slept with him. A deleted scene should have remained to my opinion, Buffy talking to Willow: "It's that the whole time, I kept thinking, hey, look at me with someone who isn't Angel. Look how much I'm not hung up with Angel anymore. Look how this is not all about Angel. God, how come I didn't see it?"
SMG disagreed with Buffy sleeping with him too..
All that time trying to figure out what type of monster Parker is, and it turns out he's just a human
I had thought from the way Parker was talking about his father’s death and not finishing things that he was being set up as the mayor’s son.
A lot of harmony hate lol! She'll grow on you, she's hilarious in Angel!
Eagerly waiting for your 4x09 reaction!
"This guy seems too good to be true." Yep.
Men like Parker can track down an emotionally vulnerable woman, like Buffy, like trained bloodhounds.
Think about how he was able to pinpoint the kind of guy she was most recently with. That's not an idle comment or guesswork. It's cold reading--well, OK, cold reading is a kind of guesswork. He knows that Buffy needs a very specific thing, and he pretended to be that thing.
And the audience is often suckered right in with her, because, they also know what Buffy needs in her life, and, like her, are HOPING for Parker to be it.
What attracts women to psychopathy isn't psychopathy itself; it's that a psychopath is a kind of chameleon. Enormous levels of social intelligence, but without empathy. Sunnydale is very lucky that he likes sleeping with women instead of killing them. (Although, Ironically, Buffy herself would be more prepared with the first option)
the idea that "america" has only one type of weather is pretty hilarious. we're a very, very big place, some places much hotter than where you are, some places much colder, some places more extreme in both directions, and some places more temperate.
This was a fantastic reaction, you were SO caught up in it all. Great stuff.
I do love that song that's playing when they hook up.
I have never, and have no intention to, watch the Vampire Diaries. Perhaps the band you're thinking of is No Doubt? Gwen Stefani, I think.
The Harsh Light Of Day was an interesting episode in that we still see Buffy's innocence regarding men. It is interesting see a lot of reactors saying how much they liked Parker, even though he seemed totally too sweet and smarmy from the start. The Spike Harmony relationship shows how coercive and manipulative it can be by one partner over another. The Anya Xander one is also most interesting as it is Anya who is almost coercing Xander into a relationship where he is clearly still very innocent and is not particularly wanting it. Spike being reintroduced is great for the show as he is without doubt one of the best characters in The Buffyverse. The credits are somewhat of a spoiler for reactors but it is impossible avoid them as they run as the episode is being shown. It's a shame they can't run them after a major character is in the episode.
I appreciate how many sociopathic predator behaviours they gave to Parker; little moments of being charming, bringing things up about his past for sympathy, treating his latest target like they're special
Buffy thought she had a new boyfriend. What she had was a hookup. Would have been one thing if Parker had been honest about his intentions before getting her into bed, but leading he on that way was a scumbag move.
The Xander/Anya scene is my favorite scene in the whole show.
Not yet, but soon. He’s worst. Hello 👋🏻.
The band at the party reminded me more of Gwen Stefani in her No Doubt days. And the stunt doubles... you really do have to look past it lol At least it's not like most cw shows now where they just blur out the face of the stunt double, I've seen that in Arrow, Supergirl etc. lol
Oh D.J, you fell for the Parker lines too 🙆
not my finest hour haha
big snake huh?
BIIIIG snake
Can you do the winchesters reactions all the episodes 1too12 I think you like it
I’ve watched 2 eps so far on Patreon. I hope to do more when I have time.
@Dakara can you do it on youtude
You brought this on yourself by calling buffy's roommate a nosey parker.
Get another slayer under his belt.
11:00 No he just changed the regular way.
Ladies, let this be a lesson: if a man is not willing to make a commitment BEFORE sex, he will not make a commitment AFTER sex.
7:57 🤣 What are you looking at Dakara?!
Harmony was annoying as a person and now as a vampire is still annoying. For her there's a line from Invaders from Mars (I think thats the one.) She's not really evil. just...stupid. Also the relationship between Xander and Anya is just, well, cute for now.
I never bought the idea of Giles agreeing to give the gem to Angel. Out of character for him. Giles of all people is aware of the danger of Angelus. Plus to send it to a demon and vampire haven like LA with Dingoes ate my baby guarding it? Giles would have insisted it be destroyed or given to the council.
Parker🙄🙄
Harmony's the rebound girl. ;)
Yeah she is 💯
joan jett
Hmmmm... Anya, Harmony and Spike are back in the same episode... what could that mean? Does anyone have a clue?
Xander and Anya should get married.
Uh....🙄
I always thought that Buffy and Jonathan would make a nice couple.
Are you kidding? He's like 3 feet tall. What is she, Saint Buffy?
@@godmagnus I see what you did there... 😉
@@godmagnus 😁
Yes I am kidding.
90 percent of male reactors I've watched catch on to Parker's douchery immediately, 90 percent of female reactors fall for him, it never fails. lol
