Got the gaming Embody when it first came out, low-key fearing I'm spending too much on a chair and it's been one of the best money I've ever spent. Especially as a 100% home office worker + all the home entertainment happening at the same seat. Never got back pain or any kind of numbness once (vs all other chairs I've used till now).
Regarding the arms, I find the "limited" adjustability to be a feature, not a bug. Less moving parts result in a more robust-feeling and more durable constraction. I'm casually puting a lot of my weight on them when sitting up-down and they don't mind the least. The pads are wide and big enough (let alone perfect firmness) that I haven't missed swivel or fore-aft movement. The "digital" up-down in fixed positions is also a great feature since I can always restore them to the perfect position for me (1 "click" lower from the top). Most importantly it's the only chair of those I've tried where the total distance between the arm pads feels wide enough to match that of my shoulders letting me breath unconstricted and not feel claustrophobic sitting in it.
Now ~2 years later with 8-12h of daily use the fabric on the seat, back and the pads as well as the mechanism looks and feels exactly like new. That's pretty unreal TBH. I would expect at least _some_ cosmetic damage but there's not even that. A "normal" "good" chair of the likes I was buying every 3-5 years would already have it's fabric already breaking up by now and its shape permanently changed into some painful shadow of its former self.
10/10 would buy Embody gaming again
185cm 86kg quite sporty
Does your chair make a ton of noise?
I have the same chair, but I’m returning it as the armrests, swivel back-and-forth mechanism and seat extension makes so unbelievably much noise I can’t stand it.
Creaks, squeaks and what have you.
@@thedumbstuff4170 sad to hear. No, mine is as silent (or noisy if you will) as any other chair. Tilting back-forth is 100% silent the back will only make a bit of noise if I make a big move like sit in a different way. That's not loud by any means nor annoying and very much on par with any other furniture the layers of which are move (think of a leather couch). With ADHD I'm quite sensitive to such things, so if it's fine for me then it's should be ok for most people. Pehaps some chairs make more noise thatn others?
@@adiorthotos I appreciate the response.
Mine isn’t necessarily making a crap ton of noise when sitting still in the chair either.
But if I have jittery legs, the adjustable front of the seat creaks like hell, and putting my elbows on the armrests making creaky sounds as well.
You cannot even force the chair to make noise?
I’d hardly call my examples force, but those scenarios are enough to make one go mad sometimes.
They’ve offered me 25% off the chair or return, but honestly even that doesn’t feel like enough.
@@thedumbstuff4170my two week old gaming embody makes noise in the backrest whenever it flexes. Has gotten louder each day. Doesn't bother me yet however. I believe the seat noise can be alleviated with some silicon spray. Google it.
this is really whats making me hesistant to buy it as well as Ive seen alot of other videos demonstrating the noise, it does seem like it would be 100% unbearable to me too :/ @@thedumbstuff4170
As someone who has owned both recently I have to say I did not like the Fern at all. Full disclosure mine was leather with the lumbar. I didn't think it was that comfortable and I hated the arm rests. I love my Embody the standard one, not gaming, it took about 3 weeks to get used to it. Even though I will continue to use my Embody I still think my Leap is a more comfortable chair. The Leap backrest is awesome and the arm rests great, not Gesture great but pretty great. The range of motion and adjustability on the Embody are great though, I adjust my back part constantly during the day depending on whether I want to lay back and lounge or sit up and work, that's the number one feature of it for me.
When you said it took 3 weeks to adjust did that include any periods when it felt uncomfortable and even painful?
@@formulaic78 It wasn't uncomfortable per se but it definitely went from loving it to not loving it and feeling like it needed a headrest too. Now I don't really feel it needs a headrest anymore. I think it's the best ergonomic chair out there but the Leap is definitely more comfortable. The Embody is also aesthetically appealing but do I feel like I have found my forever chair, no. My next chair will be completely different, a Gunlocke Washington chair like what Presidents sit in in the Oval Office. My father had one when he was working and it was fantastic.
Is there any chance you guys will get a current regular Embody (with the added scrim foam) to compare with the gaming one? I haven't seen a professional, comprehensive comparison video of those two chairs anywhere yet, and I think you'd be filling an important niche by making that comparison.
Totally, looking forward this comparison.
Gaming embody is the best chair I've ever bought, hands down. The one thing that would make it perfect for me would be depth adjustment on armrests.
I got the gaming embody two weeks ago. I chose between it, the aeron and the Steelcase Gesture after trying all in showrooms. I was surprised to find the embody to be so comfortable for the thirty mins I spent with it in the showroom, and the styling that had originally drawn me to it made me decide to go for it over the gesture and aeron which I both found to be a little conventional.
Having now used the embody for two weeks I actually am finding it pretty uncomfortable. I initially had some issues with blood circulation to the legs (tingling feet) while reclined and playing videogames despite being of average height. Then I started to notice just how hard the back actually is under that thin layer of foam, especially the lumbar support (I think it's actually sacrum). Because I can't return it anymore where I live, I've now put a blanket over it and this is helping quite a lot (though rather defeating the whole styling part of the chair). This is much more comfortable for me, although I still find my back becoming uncomfortable after longer periods of sitting (though I no longer directly feel the shape of the lumbar support pressing into me).
I've basically decided I have poor posture which is why this ergonomic chair is causing me issues where my previous unergonomic chair didn't, so I'm now trying to fix that by both adjusting my standing posture to pull back in my pelvis a little and create a straighter back and by continuing to use the chair, which hopefully is pushing my spine towards a better posture over time. The dream is to be able to remove the blanket before summer kicks in next year!
I think if I were in America I would have returned the embody and tried the fern based on this video.
Thanks for putting up this review.
This channel has been very helpful! I'm an office chair newbie, trying to graduate from my uncomfortable GTracing Ace M1. The pleather makes me heat up too fast, the chair itself is too straight for my back. I'm really leaning towards the Fern (the forward tilt sounds amazing for digital art), and now I'm not even sure I need a headrest any more. The Embody and Gesture are also very nice, but I'm so torn on where to go next! (I'm 5'10'', 210lbs)
I noticed you mentioned potential tailbone strain on the embody after long periods in other videos. Would you say there’s a lack of it in comparison on the fern? My previous chair caused quite a bit of it which is a big reason why I’m looking to upgrade, so I’d prefer whichever causes least.
I have both of these, and my big concerns with the fern is it doesn't seem like the price justification is there, and it's relaxed back doesn't seem to support as well.
I bought an embody last year (non gaming version) and I'm already starting to reconsider it. The seat is not very comfortable after 6+ hours. I'm 5'9 190 lbs and the seat begins to hurt my butt. I also find the backrest to not provide enough support. My wife bought a Fern earlier this year and I'm considering switching. I don't like the material of the seat cushion though.
Can you guys please add the TCentric Hybrid to your reviews?? I am wondering how it matches up to these chairs but barely any reviews on the chair!
JUST BE AWARE that Embody chair is of of the loudest chairs ever made. So not usable when you do voiceovers/streams etc. because every movement will be recorded.
I've got fern and it's silent when you upgrade the noisy wobbling hand rests. Take them out from the chair base sleeves (you need to push from the bottom) and then insert a small plastic (1,5-2mm thick) in between the sleeves and the arm rest inserts to fill the gap. You can also use a duck tape to tighten the inserts because they are from 2 parts so you could take the arm rests out but since they are not tight the whole arm rests are wobbly and noisy. When you duck tape the two parts together the arms rests are then sturdy and make no noise.
Nah, I'm pretty sure the Humanscale Freedom is.
I'm trying to pick a chair and the Embody gaming seems perfect, but the loudness thing seems like a dealbreaker for UA-cam videos, podcasts and vocal recording.
Two questions came up during this review. Can the Atlas Headrest you mentioned in an earlier review be added to the Embody? Also, has anyone attempted to switch the armrests between the Fern and the Embody since that seemed to be the biggest complaint?
The Aeron is almost perfect for me, but there are a few minor issues I have with it.
I prefer it over the Mirra 2 and Embody, despite the other two having very handy seat adjustment mechanisms.
That being said, it's been absolutely amazing for my home office setup for both work and gaming.

How do you like your fern? I got one recently haven't recieved it yet.
Could you make a tier list for $300 chairs specifically, or maybe on the next tier list the price tag could show up next to the chairs name on the list?
curious if you guys would review the Razer Fujion pro chair
have you done anything on the respawn flexx?
Please review Anthros chair.
That gap the Fern makes when sliding the seat depth out is identical to the gap the Leap V2 makes when doing the same. That and the identical seat dimensons which I feel are too small for me is why I will likely go with the Embody.
I bought a Fern and I've had a leap v2 and that's why I returned both chairs. It's too bad because I love the back of the Fern. I have a logitech embody on the way and I'm hoping I finally bought a chair that I wanna keep
@@mathieubellavance2506 I hope that Logitech Embody works out for you. I bought a regular Embody that i've been using since this past Sunday...and it's underwhelming to say the least. Despite the flaws I've pointed out with the Leap seat pan, I can't help but feel it's still the more comfortable chair. I'm sending the Embody back.
I have a question about the fern, you mainly mention the digital knot version but Haworth decided not to sell the digital knit version in the EU. Is the "normal" Version still S-tier in your opinions or does it fall short because of the missing comfortability?
Wish they would review the hinomi.
I have the Embody gaming chair and it makes no noise whatsoever. Also, it seems crazy but if the pressure points in the back annoy you in certain areas, you literally can just take a file, and shorten them. Granted, youd be killing your warranty doing that.
how come you guys dont sell the fern? and what is your favorite work/ possibly take a nap in?
Hopefully we will someday! -Greg
Any thoughts on which one of these would hold up best vs. cat claws? Doesnt seem like Digital Knit is available in EU for some friggin reason :(
Maybe something in leather, or get a seat cover if that's an option
I mostly use my PC for gaming and even then, mostly with a controller and I'm wondering how all these recommended chairs are for controller gaming? It's a completely different posture for me than typing where I like to lean into my chair and even put my feet up on an ottoman sometimes and I've never found a chair that's great for this, and I usually just end up back on my couch playing console games.
I am in the same situation, I want to get embody. What did you end up doing?
For now, I'm just sticking with the chair I got at Costco a few years ago. It's not perfect but it's alright for me until I can find one worth spending that kind of money on. It's their DPS branded chair, but they changed the design of it, and I don't like the new one as much@@gokusguns8818
Too bad in Europe only the mesh variant is available of the Fern. So I'm going for the Leap or Embody...
I recently bought amia after watching your videos but I still feel like I'm missing out by not getting the embody or the fern.
I mean it’s an office chair. The entire purpose of it is to provide a supportive, ergonomically comfortable seating position for long-term sitting. If that need is being met with the Amia then there’s nothing to “miss out” on. Especially if you’re saving a ton of money. Unless you’re experiencing discomfort or other issues with the chair, you should probably just stick with it and avoid these kinds of videos
You’re gonna get 90% of the same functionality with an Amia or Zody compared to higher end chairs. At this price point, it’s more about looks, build quality, and warranty more than anything else
A lot of people prefer the amia over these chairs, you made a good choice
You guys should take a look at the anthros chair.
It would be nice to see someone review it that wasn’t given suitcases full of money to promote it (ie Vaynerchuk)
I wanted to enjoy the fern, the digital knit was so nice but the gap when moving the seat pan out was just too much of an annoyance for me. I got the embody coming soon hopefully its a keeper.
That's the exact same reason I opted out of getting it. Besides that there seems to be something of a debate that goes on whether that lumbar support is good or not. I've heard an equal number of parties say it is and isn't.
@@StygianWolf I can see why someone would hate the lumbar support but I actually liked it. It's for sure aggressive though.
@@FuckUA-camHandles I also personally prefer aggressive lumbar support. Just like the criticism lodged against the Leap V2's lumbar support... I have it installed and cranked all the way up. My lower back dies whenever i'm not using it.
I bought the gaming embody and the Fern to test them out. I'm 6'2''. The gap in the Fern along with the aggressive lumbar makes it near impossible to get comfortable in. So I'm sending it back. The Embody is decent but the backrest curves in and kind of forces my shoulders forward and into an uncomfortable position. Probably gonna have to keep looking for the perfect chair for me.
@@Keystone25210 If you haven't tried the steelcase gesture yet I'd give that a shot!
I bought the fern without the lumbar and it was honestly terrible. Very loose mesh with no lower back support, killed my back over 3 weeks and I ended up sending it back. The build quility in general isn't that impressive either, the arms are super wobbly, there's a huge gap in the back of the seat and the mesh feels scratchy and not premium.
What chair did you end up with?
Had the same experience except I had the extra lumbar. Destroyed my lower back in just a few days.
It's sad to see Haworth's QC lacking once more.
Haworth QC is just super flakey. My digital knit fern with lumbar just came in yesterday, the arms are pretty solid but the fabric on the back is ripped in one place. Not sure if I’ll keep it or not, I’ve got a leap coming in in a few days.
Is there a version of the Embody that doesn't have that obnoxious noise?
It seems that some people report it being very noisy, some report it being pretty silent/normal/not annoying. Mine (gaming version, first models to come out) is the latter. It's really not noisy at all. Even if you push it to prove a point, the back will make a bit of noise which isn't too much nore happens with normal use.
I'm really eye balling both of these chairs atm. but I'm a bit worryed about the weight capaci of like 300lb as im close to 6' and 300lb. I know the best answer is to lose weight, but still, which would be better for me ? or should I fall back to a Leap V2, gesture or aeron ?
I hate that the Fern has this huge gap between the seat and the back rest. For me, that's a deal-breaker.
Hi, do you have a review about the Rekt RGO office-R please? It seems not so bad
This looks like a copy of the Autonomous ErgoPro, which isn't a great option for the price -Greg
Man if I pay 1k for a chair it better not "be perfect, but...""
I think this applies to everything in life. I could say the same about my house and my car and both are way way more expensive than an office chair. If you expect something to be absolutely perfect, you will always be disappointed. -Ryan
The only thing killing the embody is the arm rests, they're too long and have no depth adjustment.
I'm really happy with my Fern. The back is fantastic, the arms are the only ones I've ever actually liked in an office chair, and the seat is decent. It's still not quite as comfy as a couch though.
Me, too. I like it more than the embody because the backrest is 3 inches taller.
I absolutely LOVE my Haworth Fern.
How tall are you?
5'9" - Ryan
why are none of these in europe ffs?
This is slightly misleading. The regular non-gaming Embody has also got added padding in chairs produced since 2021.
I contacted Herman Miller multiple times this last year asking them to confirm/deny and they denied every time.
That’s false. They have added a very thin layer of foam that wasn’t included on the initial versions yes, but they do not include the thicker foam pad the gaming variant does. The Logitech also includes not only said thick layer, but the thin one that come standard as well.
***NOTICE*** CAN WE PLEASE START CATEGORIZING CHAIRS AS "RECLINE" AND "TILT"?? - Some chairs ONLY TILT- MAINTAINING THE ANGLE between the seat and the back as you TILT back. Others chairs RECLINE- INCREASING THE ANGLE between the seat and the back as you RECLINE back IME, chairs that only tilt are not good for backs past 6-8 hours. The chairs where I work, tilt, but maintain 90-degree or less angle between seat and back. They require actual physical exertion to stay up right. At the end of the day, my abs and hip flexors are sore from it.
Actually, there are different types of tilt mechanisms found on office chairs.
I think BTOD has already done a video covering the key differences.
I know what the difference is. But all mfrs advertise "RECLINEs" even if the chair only "TILTS". So Im asking for BTOD to let us know which do which function and not the other function.@@StardustLegacyFighter
The non gaming Embody is in no way a step down version. The gaming model is actually the less premium of the two.
Can you elaborate on this statement? I'm currently looking to buy the embody and I'm looking at the gaming variant at the moment
@@neoey Copy and paste of what I posted in another comment thread: "The gaming version has a memory foam padding in the seat as well as in the lower spine. The (updated) regular Embody has what Herman Miller calls a "scrim foam" layer and it's *only* in the seat as far as I can tell. It's actually a little more supportive than the memory foam layer in the gaming version and more comfortable imo."
I tried the gaming Embody for about a month before replacing it with the regular Embody. The memory foam padding in the lower spine is what ultimately led to me returning it. It provides a little extra support while leaned forward (like most gamers during intense sessions), but if you sit in a neutral posture or slightly leaned back, you'll probably feel it digging into your lower back like I did. Plus the memory foam in the seat wasn't as comfortable to me as the scrim foam. After a while, I started to feel some numbness in my tailbone and the back of my upper thighs.
Lastly, I think the regular Embody is better for purely aesthetic reasons. I do like the ridges on the gaming version (and nearly kept it for that reason, alone), but I'm not really a fan of the Logitech branding (as subtle as it is). Don't like seeing Logitech's tacky, "gamery" logo on my nearly $2000 chair. Plus I wanted the translucent wheels that only come with the regular version.
@vikingsfan2218 Our Gaming Embody does not have memory foam. Must already be outdated. -Ryan
@@btodtv I might be mistaken. It don't know if it's actually memory foam. I think HM just calls it "copper-infused" foam. But I remember it kind of felt like memory foam when I sat in it. It wasn't as "springy" and firm as the scrim foam in the regular embody. On the gaming version, I kind of just sunk into the foam a little
@@neoey The non gaming variety supports more customizable options, such as a titanium wheel base with three caster choices, as well as far more colors to choose from. I'm confident you'll be happy with whichever model you decide on.
if the fern is your S tier you have low standards
Why is that? I feel like my standards are pretty high considering I've seen around 1,000 chairs and i'd only consider 2 to be in my S tier. -Ryan
Get wrecked Jacob
while the Embody sounds great, i have a personal boycott against Herman Miller.
Oh no! What happened? Honestly, don't blame you haha. I am not a fan of them as a company. They make good chairs though. -Ryan
@@btodtv The CEO is a c*nt. She told her workers to leave "pity city" because they were asking for bonuses, and demanded they work harder to reach a revenue goal. While she got a 7 figure bonus.
I'm not surprised, as the company is run by a megalomaniac.
@adamsterdam9049 I'm probably going to get called a "misogynist" for this, but women in power is a bad idea for most companies.
nobody cares
First
The Embody chair is hands down the best investment I've personally made, hands down. I was very used to getting up from work feeling extremely physically exhausted and with back pain, all of which has been fixed thanks to this chair. The only complain I've ever had with it is the fact that for a while, my tailbone hurt a bit after sometime - Only to later realize this was more the fault of my posture because I was slouching and letting my butt hit. After adjusting to my posture for it (I needed some adjustment time to get used to new ways of sitting), I can pretty safely consider it a perfect chair for me. I personally don't see myself ever working from home without this chair - I'm even ready to buy a second one without a second thought if necessary, in case mine ever breaks down for whatever reason and HM can't fix it.
It comes with a 12 year warranty, and I'm pretty sure HM would replace the entire chair for free if an issue couldn't be resolved.
They have the best warranty in the industry.
