It's basically the same price as the Embody. I was wondering why the dude said it was half the price. I'm wondering if Haworth made changes to the Fern to justify the price.
When Dan says "s-tier ergo chair" it goes onto the short list for me. Thanks for all the reviews Dan. Production value seems much higher in this video. New space?
This video is SPOT ON! I'm 6'1" and 165 lbs and went deep into the market, spending hours in stores trying every Steelcase, Herman Miller and Haworth model. Like you said at 4:29 the problem with so many is that you can feel the bottom through the cushion. So I've come down to the same 2: HM Embody and Haworth Fern. Embody Pros: best seat hands down! Embody Cons: lumbar is quite firm by design and the armrests go all the way forward to my wrist crease and do not adjust front/back. Higher price. Fern Pros: thicker cushion than competitors, tall back with the best combo of support and comfort (I found the optional adjustable lumbar option is necessary) Fern Cons: the seat gap issue is real - would be a deal breaker if my legs were any longer but I seem to be ok 2-3 clicks from the max extension. If you're under 6ft ignore this con.
Bought this fully loaded from a local authorized reseller for $700. Love it. Way better than the embody, aeron, leap v2. Have never been in a more comfortable chair than the fern
I got this chair a few months ago since it seemed pretty similar to the Embody but at half the price. Had pretty bad lower back pain as a result of the chair I had prior, haven't had any since.
Chair looks amazing and feels exceptionally well-built. Very quiet with no creaks or squeaks. The fatal flaw is that the seat pan is not long enough for tall people (I'm 6'3"). The seat pan IS adjustable but if you sit with good posture, straight up, and move the seat pan forward all the way or even one click short of maximum length, your behind will be sitting on the very edge of the back of the seat cushion with a large gap between the back of the seat and the back rest.
I am a tall freak of nature 6ft6in. I bought a custom version for my work office. I loved it so much I bought another one for my home office. The cylinder is amazing. They even offer a tall cylinder.
So just tried a Fern in the Haworth store. 7 months after buying my gaming Embody...the difference is noticeable! I felt the Fern more comfortable overall
The mesh of the Fern (if you sat in that one), feels really lightweight and breezy, But The fabric on the Embody, as well as the Fern Digital fabric, is way better if you intend on long sitting sessions for work. I split the difference and got the Fern digital fabric - but some conference chairs at my office have the Embody.
I have one since 7months now. I'm 185cm for 105kg and it's perfect in terms of height. When I received it, it had a problem with the back and forward of the seat that would not be blocked in position anymore after the first use so I contacted Haworth service and they responded that i should try to repair it myself event at the risk of breaking it and if that didn't work they would take it on themselves and exchange it. And they did. I couldn't repair the broken part so they exchanged it under two weeks. The backrest is really the plus of this chair, it's really good. It follow your back without hindering your movements too much. The only part I'm disappointed with is the cushion of the seat. It was really good the first month but after using it between 4 and 10 hours per day it's now hurting almost as much as my old gaming chair after 2 years of use. It's making me happy to have a standing desk so I can have some pause when using it while working which shouldn't be the case so soon for the price. But overall, I think it's a great chair for big guy but more lightweight than I am, I guess. (Plus I don't know if it's still available but there was a way to have it new with a discount of ~200€ on their european website with a discount code).
Not sure if it can be described as value when it's double the price of the Steelcase Series 1 and Series 2 which I'm also researching after doing a lot between the Leap V2 and Gesture, ruling out the Aeron
Thanks having Yong on. I am not quite as tall as him, but love my Embody for the same reasons. I was able to get mine for $1200 or so a few years back when people weren't all working from home.
I'm glad Yong chimed in on this chair. At a similar height and weight, I'm also particular about how the high back feels against my shoulders. Some chairs get everything else right for me but it's still a deal breaker when my shoulders hit the frame or stick out.
@@themeanie. My search continues, although just over one year ago I did check out all available floor models at my local office Depot and went home with a $350 Shaquille O'Neal chair for big and tall people. It delivers comfort when it comes to the backrest, although the fixed armrests fall drastically short of optimal and the seat cushion has already started sagging just enough to lose some of its initial comfort. And it's all fake leather, so it gets hot and sweaty with use. In my experience, it was a nice upgrade from a wooden low back chair, but I'm still looking for something better for a tall person with wide shoulders to work in all day long, preferably with a mesh back to stay cool and maybe even a mesh seat if it's constructed and designed correctly.
Great review. Owner of a Fern for 1.5y now and although I have some issues with it, I can confidently say your review is on point and shows the main traits of the chair. I will point out 3 things that I would correct (but it's also a bit opinionated): the seat is a bit too firm for me but I do have a harsher seat fabric (felt/wool); the armrests, while being super adjustable and having stupid side range, they won't stay in place as much as I'd like; finally I want to note the lumbar support may not be for everyone despite not being too pronounced, but it CAN be removed (you can look it up on the chair manuals online, it's tricky but possible).
I actually just unscrewed my arm wrests pads and managed to tighten them up. Super happy now, as I found them so easy to bump out of place before I tightened them.
@@cldpt it comes off easily once all the screws are off - if you're fighting it, it means there's still screws left! Mine had 3 I believe. Confusing as there are at least two official fern documents saying there are 2 Or 3 screws..
Ahhhh yessss, the review we've all been waiting for. I'm glad it lived up to the hype. Now I gotta go ham on the customizations they give you for this chair. 😉
Forward tilt is passable, but isn’t as good on the fern as it is on the Herman miller or on the zody line for Haworth. Could save yourself a few bucks by not getting it!
@ Gotcha! I’m thinking of taking advantage of the Black Friday sale. Fern with lumbar support, black digital nit, 4D arms, plastic base. Is that a good combo?
Finally the review I was waiting for, but I already bought a used Fern for 400€ and I am totally happy with it. The thing that make me wonder, are the prices here in Germany. You can get the Fern show in the video for around 1300€ to 1600€, depending on the dealer. Without lumbar support, tild adjustment, fixed armrest and basic fabric for 900€. In comparison the Herman miller embody only costs 1200€ from a local dealer. Thanks for your great reviews. Which made the decision so much easier. Ps: Tested the gesture as well and I totally agree, you can feel the bottom.
My uncle worked for Herman Miller for 15+ years, so my brother and I ended up with aerons that had been sitting around not being used. Now 7+ years later after acquiring my aeron, it's just completely worn out and would be too cost prohibitive to repair. Nowadays, my uncle works for Haworth! I just ordered a base model Fern with lumbar adjustment at employee pricing, super stoked to get it and experience all the hype! Thanks for the video, I now have high expectations 🤣
@@slvrization love it, soft edge vs the hard edge of the aeron is much more comfortable. The chair in general is much more supportive and I prefer it thus far. No regrets
Yeah I have no idea what they were thinking, I took one look at the price and said may as well get an embody, which I did by getting a deal for $1100. Gotta admit I was tempted by their xbox chair version, but it's just not worth $1500, no chair is.
Just bought one with the digital knit using your link. The high back closed the deal for me. At 6' 1", I just can't stand when the back's too short to lean on. Thanks for your reviews!
Love the video, gonna check out the new one with the added headrest next. I'm your height, but it was helpful to bring in your certified tall person for another viewpoint. Very informative video.
FERN UPGRADE - I've got fern and it's silent when you upgrade the noisy wobbling hand rests. Take them out from the chair base sleeves (you need to push from the bottom) and then insert a small plastic (1,5-2mm thick) in between the sleeves and the arm rest inserts to fill the gap. You can also use a duck tape to tighten the inserts because they are from 2 parts so you could take the arm rests out but since they are not tight the whole arm rests are wobbly and noisy. When you duck tape the two parts together the arms rests are then sturdy and make no noise. If you have lumbar and it starts to make squeaking noises you need to take the fabric down then the front mesh then the lumbar pillow and then you put some vaseline on the metal moving parts of the lumbar. Then you put everything back together and it's like new.
I tried out this chair for a month! Mine had the extra padding on the backrest and didn't have the lumbar support. Gotta say, I feel like it needs the extra lumbar support. Without it the softness of the backrest didn't provide much support and I felt myself slouching pretty badly before long. I also tried it alongside the Embody and I preferred the way the Embody sort of slightly hugs your back. The Fern was nice but it felt a little like sitting against a balloon. I also found the recline smoothness lacking compared to the Embody. Definitely an extremely good value for the price though!
Hi @ahnestly - is this still your favorite chair? How would you rate the seat cushion in terms of breathability? I'm currently also looking at the Steelcase Karman because I need something more breathable for not only the back, but for the bottom. Appreciate all the reviews!
Hey! The seat is going to be as breathable as any cloth chair - not the best, but not the worst either. Compared to Karman, it’ll be night and day. Can’t compete with the Karman in terms of breathability. If you decide to pick up, please consider using my links! Helps the channel a LOT!
@@Ahnestly ngl got scared on the first sit because the seat is very firm and small vs my old chair. But after a couple days I love it. Still very expensive in Canada (1700 CAD) SO I'm going to be very picky the next few weeks
8:55 literally the first time I see someone of my size sitting in an Embody. Ordered it last week and I'm now soo relieved that I wont be too tall when it finally arrives 🎉
I really wanted to love this chair but I'm in the process of returning mine. I got the executive version with headrest, (fake) leather, and no lumbar, as Haworth wasn't selling the headrest with any other fabric through their store. I like a lot about the chair, but really think that all three of those options might be the wrong choice. The headrest feels a bit cheap and is a little too far forward, so my shoulders can't fit quite right with it on, though it fits my height well enough (6'1", 185lbs). The leather isn't breathable at all and weirdly ripples/bunches when I sit in the chair properly -- not a great fabric for the flexible construction of the chair. I think the mesh or knit would work much better. And I found myself shoving a rolled up towel in the back, because without additional lumbar, the midback just collapses and causes me to slouch. Another small issue is that with broad shoulders, the back's frame does dig right into the center of my shoulder blades sometimes, which is not ideal. All that said, though, yours is the first review I've seen that really goes into detail on the lumbar feel (most just say "it's aggressive"), and I think I may try to find a dealer with one in mesh with lumbar and see if it resolves my issues, because I genuinely like the recline feel, the back flexibility, the seat, and overall look, and think a breathable version with some support higher up in the back (and maybe without the headrest) might be the way to go. Or I may end up with a Gesture w/ headrest, since I really *do* want a headrest for lounging... Thanks for the good review!
One thing to note with the Gesture and it is possible that I was using it wrong but I didn’t find it a great lounging chair. If you recline back, there is a bit of resistance, so you have to put a bit of effort to making it stay reclined versus most other chairs I’ve tried. Armrest of the Gesture is really amazing though
Thanks for the great review on the options and leather. Hopefully they will rectify the fabric options for the headrest at least. Does this allow for the headrest to be added later as I can't see any cut outs/attachment areas on the non headrest version.
After using Embody for years, I got this chair on black friday deal for 700 euro. It absolutely WIPES the floor with Embody, even at its most basic, cheapest configuration (all black, no lumbar, yes forward tilt). I can't even imagine how comfortable it is with 3D knit fabric backrest and leather seating (not available in EU). What is funny is that loaded, it would prolly still be cheaper than Embody.
Damn 700 euro is an good deal. I am tempted right now as with holiday deal right now it is 830. Seems black Friday was an better deal. Maybe will wait another year ;-) as it seems they do those deals on those occasions.
@@danielradomiak9468 maybe a good idea to wait if you are not in dire need of a comfortable chair. Some dealers say Haworth will soon start selling (but it is not certain) Ferns with the 3D knit backrest feature, and a lot of people are very fond of it. I wish I could try it, but I live in Spain so it is actually more useful to have a more ventilated simple mesh.
Was looking at the Embody Gaming edition, but the lumbar support (which I'm especially looking for) seemed lackluster compared to the Fern. Haworth Fern in Europe currently has a 20% discount, and I just pulled the trigger. I'm 6,2" (188 cm) and weigh around 220 pounds (100 kg). Your videos have been immensely helpful in finding a new chair. Though I had to spend more than twice than I thought I would lol. Hopefully it's worth it.
Do you know and can you tell me what the difference between the digital knit and the gradient knit is in practice? I see there is texture in the digital knit, does it make a difference?
I'm using one with a headrest right now...and I hate the headrest so much....haha. it's just a really really dense fabric pad and only moves up and down. Doesn't fit my neck curve at all and sometimes, I'd rather there be no headrest so I can rest the back of my head on the top of the chair....
Oh thank you! 🤣 ive been hunting for a Chair for a while now i like how comprehensive your videos are, i normally dont comment on videos, thank you so much for the response! 🤗
@@Ahnestly i will! I was hesitating between the steelcase refurbished and the herman embody but had taken it off my list since they unafilliated you, they are back on my list again though! :3 my hesitation is the fact that i want good lpwer back support but i like to lean firward alot too...i also life my feet up and like having adjustable arms (i have the secret lab omega rn and the seat is so depe even with a lumbar pillow my legs are still cut off...and the sest is super hard but i love theway the adjustable arms are so easy to move whichever way im positioned.) I am only hesitating on what feature i am willing to sacrifice to at least have less abck pain.....deciding is hard especially since its such a big purchase but my husband and i greed no limit i just want to make the right decision 🥲 im 5' 2" and it seems like its so hard to find a chair that does it all 😭 hopefully with the headrest coming out ill be able to finally choose! 🤣 >li alsp really liked the hawthorn, but dont like that the arms seem flimsy compared to other chairs x-x im looking forward to your upcoming videos!
Is it possible to have a detailed comparison with Embody? It is interesting to see how they are different and to know your suggestions on how to choose between them.
I'd love to see you bring the ladies in to try the Fern....or some short guys. I am 5' 4 and it looks like this would ALMOST support my head without the headrest!
Great review! Two questions, How breathable was that seat? The website says it is 70% wool and 30% flax linen. Compared to the black version with 100% polyester. Would the wool make more sweaty booty juices? Also we're similar short king heights. Is the back too high to use the Atlas headrest? Trying a fern out it feels like there isn't enough room to move my head back since the top plastic hits the base of my skull.
I liked the seat during the 30 day return timeframe. After about 2 months, the foam in the seat is bottoming out and I'm able to feel what ever is below the foam and I'm not even 200lbs. I'm guessing that's not covered under the warranty.
Hey Dan, any chance you could give more detail (or UA-cam Short maybe?) about the plastic back "grid" material? I used to have a Herman Miller Mirra (tried both with and without the butterfly mesh fabric) and on both I found I could feel the hard ridges of the plastic on my back when leaning into the chair.
The grid is totally rubber and you can see how bendy it is. Not at all like the mirra, where the rubber IS the frame. If you get the non lumbar version, I believe you get a more padded back, and not some stiff rubber frame!
@@Ahnestly Thanks for the reply! I think I would prefer to have the lumbar adjustment. Unfortunately I've just seen the chair doesn't seem to be available in the UK/Europe with the lumbar option. Also the UK price on their site is £1100 ($1450)!
Just got my Fern with all the bells and whistles, couldn't be happier. Used Crandall and save some real money. Thanks!!! U da man and Jesus is Lord! Merry Christmas, he is the reason of the season.
The problem with the rubber grid system on the back is that a wave can form that presses against your back which doesn't feel very nice. Then you have to press your back starting from the lumbar region evenly against the back of the chair so the wave in the grid doesn't form.
Ahn Please answer which desk chair has the softest, cushiest, plushest seat? I can’t do a hard seat. Haven’t heard you say which is the most softest/comfiest. No firm chairs pls🤍
Watch the video coming out tomorrow. Softest seat. If you need something sooner, check out my review of the steelcase Amia (currently 25% off with my stackable code). Excellent seat, plush yet supportive! And if you decide to pick up, please consider using my link. It helps the channel a LOT!
The problem I have with all Haworth chairs being 6’2 is that when you pull the seat pan out to get more support (I have long thighs), it leaves a gap between the seat back. This is a fatal design flaw if you’re taller IMO.
Planning to invest in a high quality ergo chair! My short list is now : Haworth Fern, thanks to many recommendations and you! Herman Miller Aeron and Steelcase Leap! Do you think Fern is the best seat cushion wise? ppl are complaining the mesh on Aeron is hurting their asses lol
the Aeron doesn't use a cushion, but some people SWEAR by it (I loved mine until I found all these other great chairs). I personally like the Ferns cushion over the Leaps...I felt the bottom on my leap. SItting in my fern now as I write this!!
@@Ahnestly Yess my g! I ordered it straight from Haworth, and it is said that it will arrive in 15 business days. While I also ordered a HM Aeron Type B from a official retailer, they give you 99% discount code to test the chair for a few days to see if it's good for you. Really hyped for both of these chairs!
@@Ahnestly My feedback for both of these chairs : Fern is def more comfortable with the seating and backrest. The aeron mesh appears a bit on the firmer side. One question, what is the colour option of the bacrkest on your fern? is it corn flower?
I have to follow up with Autonomous. They said they'd send it, but then the convo died. I have SO many videos in my backlog, so it would be a while before I could get to it!
"Half the Price" or $924, seems to be the Quick Ship Black (Coal) version, while lumbar is added, no forward tilt and the base is plastic. In US Store, before any promotional discounts, a custom Mesh Fern (only way to get forward tilt on official store), without Lumbar and default color, is $1239. When you configure it with the fabric colors shown in video and lumbar, the price goes up to $1419, closing the gap with the low Embody. Luckily, forward tilt isn't well implemented, like mentioned in video. So it could of be said, at $924 (plus 10% off now), if you are fine with the quick ship black configurattn, plastic base with no forward tilt, it is a very attractable price, plus shipped fast.
Mind reviewing the Martiangear Starfighter or Starship? It seems like they started shipping Internationally recently. Still looking forward to the US release of Ergotune! 🤞
It depends! I LOVE this chair...I've sadly moved away from the Aeron recently due to the ability to sit freely in these chairs...but nothing can beat the breathability of an Aeron!
@@Ahnestly Just got myself an aeron and I feel like if you have casual work to do or you play your casual games & watching movies, aeron wont be the chair nr1. but for me this chair feels perfect as it allows me to focus on my study and competitive gaming and get most out of it with the best comfort on side But i havent tested as many chairs as you have, correct me if i am wrong p.s. to watch movies ill go into a hamlock :D
@@AroundTheHope hey if the chair works for you, then that’s the one! What matters most is not ergonomics, etc - it’s about what you feel comfortable in!
Been looking at the Fern and Leap v2. I want to get the Fern because it looks way better but i have a feeling it has a higher chance of wearing down over time and little things going wrong with it. Like maybe its a more flimsy chair than the Leap.
I think that's a reasonable stance. There are Leaps from the 90s and early 2000s still roaming around and in pretty good condition...but the Fern was released in 2016, so we don't really know how it'll hold up to time! The Ferns are pretty simple chairs though...the only thing that I think may be prone to breaking is the forward tilt, but everything else seems like it'll hold up
I've been searching for a gaming chair with good recline, rocking and a headrest. I'm considering buying a returned Fern and getting the Atlas headrest. However Tristan Pope (Crafting World) gave a scathing video review of the Fern on his UA-cam channel. He went on to review the Xbox and Halo versions, and his assessment of them weren't as harsh. Just wondering if anyone who owns the basic Fern with digital knit has any opinion based on their experience.
@@bmtenoch8230 HAHA I was going to say you spelled ahnestly wrong, but you redeemed yourself. In all seriousness, thank you so much. Just heard about this chair about a week ago. Not sure why it isn't in the usual conversation with herman miller or steelecase. I might have to find a stor3 near me that has it so I can try it out.
I tried this chair in the Executive setup fully loaded with the Oceanic Flotsam all black. For reference I currently sit on a Mirra 2 loaded which I love. But of course I could not resist giving the Fern a shot. I actually sent it back a day later. It just does not measure up to a Herman Miller. Now of course my experience is different from someone else's. Also, I am not throwing shade on Dan's review and experience. Just simply sharing mine to someone who is trying to make an informed decision about which chair to get.
Interesting...i actually enjoyed this seat for a year and then found i was struggling with the seat and foam and it just got uncomfortable while sitting for long periods...ended up selling at a massive loss but lessons learned! i traded up to the embody and love it so far ...will be interesting to see how the embody is after a year!
Hey bro ! Thanks for the review ! With your recent review on the Steelcase Amia, do you have any preference ? I know you have Top 3 with the Embody but wanted to see what you would pick as 1st now. Keep up the good work !
this is one of the chairs I would consider, but looking at other reviews I've seen the headrest is not that good. That's my pet peeve with these office chairs: why good chairs with good headrests are so rare? why the back is often short (ok, this is not that short)? I want a chair where I can work and when I want to watch a movie I can recline and put my head on a good headrest.
Damn this chair does look really good! But have you considered looking at Okamuras line of chairs ? I have heard a lot of good stuff from them but not many reviewers have reviewed their products but their chairs look as premium as Herman Miller and steelcases One of their models, most of their have the unique armrest feature that operates the recline and the seat like Neue but with more features. The one that caught my eye from the Okamura is the Contessa and the Finora, would love to see a video about these chairs.
Picked this chair up in the digital mesh configuration after hours of research. Very happy I didn't go with Herman Miller or Secret Lab. Love the Fern!
I am so glad you reviewed this, I bought on Facebook Marketplace for $360 i really really love it. I'm 5'11 280lbs male for reference, only thing i dislike is the fabric choice for the backrest.
Sorry for late reply. What I hate is the mesh fabric. If my shirt lifts or if my skin touches the mesh directly it just feels like it’s rough on my skin. But I’m in touch with someone from local dealer and I’m ordering a different material
I just reviewed the Anthros chair. Check it out and see if it might be a good fit! People also noted that they preferred either the Zody II or the Fern over the Embody for lower back support, but keep in mind that if you're taller (5'10+), you'll have to slide the seat out, and if you sit scooched all the way back, you will feel a gap in the back of the seat
I got an impeccable condition leap V2 factory authorized return on black Friday from Crandall's for $800 (including tax and shipping). It has headrest and no arms (my preference) and fabric ( would prefer leather) for seating and back. It seems like a great deal. My only issue with it is the headrest sucks. I can still return it, but with current prices I'd be paying $900 MORE for a new fern with their additions for $1700. I would eventually add the atlas headrest which will bring that price up even more. Just not sure if it's worth it at these prices. If both were similar in price I'd go for the Fern, but I'd be paying over double
Currently considering buying the Fern Digital Knit version. Do you have any suggestions on the colour choice from the website? I noticed that each of the colour choices uses different contents (i.e. nylon, polyester, wool, etc) in the seating. I'm also considering adding the lumbar support and aluminum base but without the forward tilt (thanks for pointing that part out in the video as it confirms that I wouldn't need it). The only other chair on my radar is the Embody, but I guess we'll see how the Fern goes first. I originally bought a Leap from a local company after reading all the raving reviews about the chair online, and the chair was damaged. I exchanged it for another Leap and the second chair was damaged as well. I then decided to raise my budget and order brand new directly through Steelcase, and my chair arrived with both cosmetic and functional issues - so I'm now in the process of getting it returned. What has really soured my experience this time, though, is the fact that Steelcase expects a 12% return fee for an item that is clearly damaged. The one I received literally looks like it's been used. I also didn't like the fact that my chair was delivered and abandoned without notifying me - in a building where theft is an issue. No phone call. No text message. No door knock or signature confirmation. And I could tell that the package itself wasn't handled with care. I've had to resort to calling my credit card company to step in regarding the return fee and now have to wait for a resolution. Steelcase did offer the option to file a quality claim; however, having experienced too many issues with this chair, I'm not taking the chance of being stuck with a Leap at the $1500+ CAD price point after knowing how consistent some of the issues are. I wanted to love the Leap, but the quality and trust factors are completely missing for me.
Sorry to hear about the headache with Steelcase! That stinks. As for the Fern, no real suggestions...go with what color you like best! Not sure if there is a huge difference between colors, but rather, fabric types. Even then, I'm not as familiar with fabric types unfortunately. The lumbar support you can always remove if you end up not being a fan. As for forward tilt, yeah I don't use it that often. If you do decide to pick up, please consider using my links! It helps the channel a LOT!
@@Ahnestly Thanks for the reply - still on the fence with the Fern and going back and forth on the lumbar option. What do you think about the lumbar support for someone who didn't really like or use the lumbar on the Leap - would it still be better to get it with the Fern just in case? Does your height/weight play a factor as to whether it would be of benefit? There seems to be a lot of mixed opinions around it. The area of my back that felt least supported with the Leap is the upper region, so I feel like the Fern would potentially help with that.
@@iamomarhachem the fern def has a higher back and could do well for that upper back! As for lumbar, I love it. My friend got the xbox gaming one recently bc of the leather seat + digital knit back and he loves the lumbar. He also got the headrest from Atlas Headrest (see my video on this) and removed the stock headrest and replaced it with the Atlas Headrest one. He says he loves it as much as he does the Embody. IMHO, I say get the lumbar, and if you hate it, you can always remove. Not sure if Haworth sells the lumbar aftermarket. Just becareful when removing so you don't damage anything - take it slow. Easy to do though! If you do decide to pick up, please consider using my link! Helps the channel a LOT!
I can’t decide if I want the lumbar support or not. I’m 6’2 and I do have some lower back pain at times but I’ve heard the lumbar support it pretty aggressive.
I recommend get it with it and you can always remove it. Not as easy to do vice versa though! If you decide to pick up, please consider using my links as it helps a LOT and let me know how it goes!!!
The European store currently offers only the mesh back version. Would you recommend waiting for the digital knit version to become available in the European store? How does the comfort of the digital knit version compare to the mesh back version?
Was also wondering about your thought of the differences between a regular HM Embody vs a HM x Logitech Embody, are there any noticeable differences or is it more or less the same chair?
I plan to do a regular embody vs gaming embody video in the near future - my pick is the gaming! as for digital knit, it's softer on the back, but does get warmer than the mesh back! I like both just fine, but the digital knit offers some noticeable cushion. Not sure when it'll make its way to Europe...seems like a lot of international folks complaining about no digital knit!
Hey! What chair would you recommend other than the Embody for people with longer upper legs? Basically I'm looking for a chair that is either deeper by default or has adjustable depth without making a hole in back that is uncomfortable.
Hey! Hm so the only one I can think of is the Steelcase Gesture. The Haworth fern has too large of a gap so that’s no bueno. 20% sale ends today, so May want to pick up and then return if it doesn’t work out! Please consider using my link in the description (my coupon for the extra 5% is there as well) as it helps the channel a LOT! Thanks!
Does Fern's backrest support you when sitting upright? As opposed to Embody, whose backrest is significantly leaned back even in its most forward position.
Hm, do you mean the angle is leaned back? the embody's back (not the back tilt tension, the backrest itself) can be tightened, so it's possible that the leaned back you felt was due to a loosened back. If you meant the angle, i'll check in a few and report back
I have this chair. Its allows you to sit upright. There is a miniscule amount of wiggle room so you can definitely sit at 90 degrees. I had a Steelcase Leap and the most forward position allowed me to lean back too much, the Fern doesn't have this problem.
Would love to see this compare to some of the more heavy padded "executive power reclining office chairs" that are in the same price range but have much less reviews or market share it would appear.
The only issue with these chairs is they are SO GODDANG EXPENSIVE. And I've reached out to a few companies to have them sent over for review, but silence. I can't really afford to buy multiple thousand dollar chairs, unfortunately...
@Ahnestly The ones I've seen mostly on kinnils but also a few on Amazon range from 450-1000-2500. Most being in the same 450-1500 range as the haworth and Herman Miller. I'm truly surprised how there's almost no reviews at all for the "executive style office recliners" on the entire internet. Like literally none. Your right there are many that are above the 1500$ range but there's still many in the same price bracket as hermin Miller embody or haworth fern it even less honestly. And since those two seem to be the top tier "office chairs" it would only seem fair to review them against chairs in the same price bracket. I understand that it is expensive to pay for out of pocket for these chairs but to give even just one or Teo of the true executive examples could shed tremendous light on an entire category of office chair that I think most have no clue about. And how can they be educated without knowing even higher end chairs exist imo for essentially the same price or less Tham emboy and fern. What do you think? Maybe you could ask your followers to help out a little? Im sure many would be very intrigued to see more about these heavy duty executive power reclining chairs that there really isn't too much information about easily to find. You'd really be doing to world a service here Could serve to help th entire market SD open peoples eyes to things they never seem before
Glad to see the Fern finally getting the love it deserves! My only issues were the rocky arms and feeling the back of the seat when pulling it out. Try the Digital Knit version
I love your reviews thank you so much! I was dreading having to spend 1100 on an embody but this ticks off all the same boxes except that amazing exoskeleton design. But me and my wallet Are just gonna have to go with the amazing fern. Your reviews have been so very helpful i truly appreciate you
Contessa/okamura is the only high end chair with an actual tilt recline lock. Very comfortable and much better than the steel case forward sliding seat.
Need to find a way to sneak into Dan's office and "exchange" the Mavix M7 I took from him with either the Embody or Fern... #letyongstealdansembodyorfern 😂

Fern Pros: thicker cushion than competitors, tall back with the best combo of support and comfort (I found the optional adjustable lumbar option is necessary)
Fern Cons: the seat gap issue is real - would be a deal breaker if my legs were any longer but I seem to be ok 2-3 clicks from the max extension. If you're under 6ft ignore this con.
Glad our thoughts synced!!! Hope you enjoy your chair!!!
Bought this fully loaded from a local authorized reseller for $700. Love it. Way better than the embody, aeron, leap v2. Have never been in a more comfortable chair than the fern
wish they were still that cheap. It seems like 2-3 months ago all chair companies raised their price by 500$
What about steelcase gesture?
I got this chair a few months ago since it seemed pretty similar to the Embody but at half the price. Had pretty bad lower back pain as a result of the chair I had prior, haven't had any since.
Yesss!!!

They have a 12 year warranty - maybe call and see what can be done? Thanks for the feedback!!
I'm having such a hard time finding a chair I like with a head rest. But boy do I like that this is finally in a fun colour
I've had this chair for about 6 months while working from home and gaming and its been great and couldn't agree more. Best value chair there is!
Not sure if it can be described as value when it's double the price of the Steelcase Series 1 and Series 2 which I'm also researching after doing a lot between the Leap V2 and Gesture, ruling out the Aeron
Steelcase refuses to answer my emails....not sure why...everyone else sent me their chairs to review! lol
@@Ahnestly Feel free to PM me. I can explain in more detail.

Thanks having Yong on. I am not quite as tall as him, but love my Embody for the same reasons. I was able to get mine for $1200 or so a few years back when people weren't all working from home.
Nice!!
I'm glad Yong chimed in on this chair. At a similar height and weight, I'm also particular about how the high back feels against my shoulders. Some chairs get everything else right for me but it's still a deal breaker when my shoulders hit the frame or stick out.
Have you found a comfortable chair for a tall person?
@@themeanie. My search continues, although just over one year ago I did check out all available floor models at my local office Depot and went home with a $350 Shaquille O'Neal chair for big and tall people. It delivers comfort when it comes to the backrest, although the fixed armrests fall drastically short of optimal and the seat cushion has already started sagging just enough to lose some of its initial comfort. And it's all fake leather, so it gets hot and sweaty with use.
In my experience, it was a nice upgrade from a wooden low back chair, but I'm still looking for something better for a tall person with wide shoulders to work in all day long, preferably with a mesh back to stay cool and maybe even a mesh seat if it's constructed and designed correctly.
we definitely need more reviews based on body type. This wouldve saved me a lot of money over the years but alas you live and you learn!
@@ZILLA.... oh cool, I'll have to give this a try, gotta see on the manuals how to safely remove the arm caps/pads
Hahaha nice! Don't get the tilt forward. Also, strongly advise against the headrest if you're like above 5'10!!
@@AhnestlyWhy not get the tilt forward?

Nice!! I'm glad you were able to find the perfect chair for you!!!
Out of curiosity, where did you find your Fern? I'm having a hard time finding sellers in EU outside UK
what‘s a great deal, i‘m also currently in germany and looking for an used Fern :)) do you have any tips

@@Ahnestly Definitely more on the aggressive side but surprisingly not bad! Cannot compare with the optional one thought.
A year later, the Fern with lumbar support is closer to the Embody in price. On Amazon today $1,329 - $1,985(headrest)
Yeah I have no idea what they were thinking, I took one look at the price and said may as well get an embody, which I did by getting a deal for $1100. Gotta admit I was tempted by their xbox chair version, but it's just not worth $1500, no chair is.
Why do you think the price increased like crazy? Cus of videos like this
Interesting and looks so much like the embody. If I wasn’t so set on some mesh goodness I’d be considering this.
Damn, this is the truest statement I've ever heard. The struggle is real!!
A co-worker of mine had this chair. I was impressed with how comfortable it was. Def a Top 5 chair IMO.
Is it good for sure
I took your advice and purchased this chair, it’s a great chair, very comfortable
It's crazy, but like you saying it's a good chair I'm instantly sold. Much respect man! Love your channel and I watch every chair review

Thank you for keep your promise!!! Finally Fern has arrivedddddddd!
Yeah the Embody's back is king, but at half the price, it's pretty damn great!

That's exactly what I read about the headrest. I was going to mention it, but I might do a follow up discussing the Fern options
I've been WAITING for this one ever since I commented on your big blind chair test!

I love my Haworth Fern Chair, hands down the best chair I’ve used.

I wonder if you could do a review of this chair with the head rest one of the options has?
I'm using one with a headrest right now...and I hate the headrest so much....haha. it's just a really really dense fabric pad and only moves up and down. Doesn't fit my neck curve at all and sometimes, I'd rather there be no headrest so I can rest the back of my head on the top of the chair....

Thanks for noticing!!! I really worked my ass off on this one!!
thanks for the video just picked up a fern xbox edition for 600 bucks on ebay
Great review! Two questions,
How breathable was that seat?
Really? Guess embody is the way to go.
Thank you for reviewing this chair, just confirmed my decision. finally!!!
YES!!!
Really trying to figure out between the fern and aeron.

The problem I have with all Haworth chairs being 6’2 is that when you pull the seat pan out to get more support (I have long thighs), it leaves a gap between the seat back. This is a fatal design flaw if you’re taller IMO.
Is 6’ fine?
Would love to see a review of the California chairs sausalito. Not sure if it's good, but mostly because no one really talks about it
Planning to invest in a high quality ergo chair!
Hey, love your videos. I would like to know your opinion on the autonomous ErgoChair Pro. Are you planing to do a video about it?
I have the coal (got a dumb good deal for it, otherwise I would get any other model) and will also note that the arms are also plastic .
Mind reviewing the Martiangear Starfighter or Starship? It seems like they started shipping Internationally recently.
Still looking forward to the US release of Ergotune! 🤞
I was in talks with Martiangear for a bit...i'll try andfollow up
@@Ahnestly I appreciate it :)
How would you compare it to an aeron? Thought the foam is a nogo because of the sweaty constructure
It depends! I LOVE this chair...I've sadly moved away from the Aeron recently due to the ability to sit freely in these chairs...but nothing can beat the breathability of an Aeron!
@@Ahnestly Just got myself an aeron and I feel like if you have casual work to do or you play your casual games & watching movies, aeron wont be the chair nr1. but for me this chair feels perfect as it allows me to focus on my study and competitive gaming and get most out of it with the best comfort on side
But i havent tested as many chairs as you have, correct me if i am wrong
p.s. to watch movies ill go into a hamlock :D
Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better review! And your videos are class. Thank you!
I mean to say Ahnestly...

@@Ahnestly Thanks!
still trying to decide between this and the embody -- see way more embodies on used markets
Oof tough decision…you know me…gonna say embody every time!
Just heard about this chair about a week ago. Not sure why it isn't in the usual conversation with herman miller or steelecase. I might have to find a stor3 near me that has it so I can try it out.
Same here! What's ironic is that all 3 of these companies are based in Michigan! Like literally 30-40 min apart!!!
Some people love it and some people don't! thats the way the cookie crumbles
@@kc-me6wl Do you have any updated thoughts on the embody even though it has only been 2 months?
Details would be helpful.
Hey bro ! Thanks for the review ! With your recent review on the Steelcase Amia, do you have any preference ? I know you have Top 3 with the Embody but wanted to see what you would pick as 1st now. Keep up the good work !
congrats on the new space!!!!
Thanks man!! Now I just need a new body...lolol
@@Ahnestly LOL new body = new chair, vicious cycle haha
this is one of the chairs I would consider, but looking at other reviews I've seen the headrest is not that good. That's my pet peeve with these office chairs: why good chairs with good headrests are so rare? why the back is often short (ok, this is not that short)? I want a chair where I can work and when I want to watch a movie I can recline and put my head on a good headrest.
Yeah headrest isn’t great but check out my embody vs fern video! You’ll see some cool stuff regarding headrests!
Damn this chair does look really good! But have you considered looking at Okamuras line of chairs ?
I have heard a lot of good stuff from them but not many reviewers have reviewed their products but their chairs look as premium as Herman Miller and steelcases
One of their models, most of their have the unique armrest feature that operates the recline and the seat like Neue but with more features.
The one that caught my eye from the Okamura is the Contessa and the Finora, would love to see a video about these chairs.
I reached out but they never got back to me!
Picked this chair up in the digital mesh configuration after hours of research. Very happy I didn't go with Herman Miller or Secret Lab. Love the Fern!
love ittt!!
I love my secretlab evo
@@shadowbanned5164 Dang evo lovers are pretty vocal and I love it! Im glad you like it!!
I am so glad you reviewed this, I bought on Facebook Marketplace for $360 i really really love it. I'm 5'11 280lbs male for reference, only thing i dislike is the fabric choice for the backrest.
nice!! also what don't you like about the fabric?
Sorry for late reply. What I hate is the mesh fabric. If my shirt lifts or if my skin touches the mesh directly it just feels like it’s rough on my skin. But I’m in touch with someone from local dealer and I’m ordering a different material
just ordered one, thanks for the video
Noice!!!
It seems like this chair is a “jack of all trades, master of none”.
at half the price, I'm good with it. loving this lumbar!!
the embody gaming is killing my lower back. what chair would you suggest?
I just reviewed the Anthros chair. Check it out and see if it might be a good fit! People also noted that they preferred either the Zody II or the Fern over the Embody for lower back support, but keep in mind that if you're taller (5'10+), you'll have to slide the seat out, and if you sit scooched all the way back, you will feel a gap in the back of the seat
I'm watching this the day after I got the Embody from the shop. Nice.
kinda wish i saw this chair before i bought the steelcase gesture. its cheaper and looks alot more comfortable and ergonomic
The Gesture is pretty darn ergonomic! They definitely both have their ups and downs!
do you know what fabric/color options you have on this chair?
geni.us/kFD9T
Color is Westminster with the additional lumbar support!
@@Ahnestly thank you!
It looks nice. Ordering one now :)
@@Ahnestly Did you get a chance to check the angle? I'm an upright sitter and deciding between the Fern and Embody
You'd really be doing to world a service here
Could serve to help th entire market SD open peoples eyes to things they never seem before
Glad to see the Fern finally getting the love it deserves! My only issues were the rocky arms and feeling the back of the seat when pulling it out.
Try the Digital Knit version
We'll see if I can get my hands on one!
The digital knit is nice
I love your reviews thank you so much! I was dreading having to spend 1100 on an embody but this ticks off all the same boxes except that amazing exoskeleton design. But me and my wallet Are just gonna have to go with the amazing fern. Your reviews have been so very helpful i truly appreciate you
Wait where can you get an embody that cheap??
Contessa/okamura is the only high end chair with an actual tilt recline lock. Very comfortable and much better than the steel case forward sliding seat.
Need to find a way to sneak into Dan's office and "exchange" the Mavix M7 I took from him with either the Embody or Fern... #letyongstealdansembodyorfern 😂
LOL thanks again for doing this, brother!
Subbed for the great videos. Torn between this and an Embody. Will probably go with whichever I can find second hand first haha
Thank you for the sub!!! Best of luck! I have never seen a Fern second hand and Embodies are very rare!!
What’s the best chair with head rest height would you recommend?
