Hi Chad. Great 👍 video with a very important topic especially for all of us that are thinking on staying and living in the Philippines. Thanks 👍 and keep up the great work.
Great vid Chad and JR - good info - a smart person learns all the rules as much as possible before going to another country, much less staying there - YES PLEASE have JR do another video covering foreign ownership of land, etc. etc. - other comments were very helpful - so thanks to you others with legal yet creative ways that work - I personally would consult an attorney in PHI to make a game plan.
Another important thing to note about the $20K Deposit. It doesn't have to just sit there unused, you can put that towards the purchase of a condo or land lease
Unless I'm misunderstood (very long day and can barely keep my eyes open), you could have two million dollars in savings, earning around $100k interest annually, but without a pension you cannot do the retirement deposit? What if you don't want the hit from taking social security early at 50? Two million dollars isn't enough to make you a good bet? Isn't there a $50k deposit option? I thought I read that somewhere.
@@RT804 The requirement for the 10k deposit variant is to show proof of a monthly state pension (of your home country) of at least USD 1k. What you can draw as income on your investments is altogether a different story.
In July, I Got my 13A VISA at the Washington, DC., Philippine Embassy. Less hassles and paperworks, just for those in the US that are thinking of moving I would advise go this route. Great video Chad thanks brother for sharing!
I look at Duma accommodation prices regularly and it's now the most expensive place to live in the PH, outside of beachfront property and the absolute heart of money districts like BGC and Makati. What you get in return for that outlay is not worth it.

One component related to the SRRV visa, if you are 70 years or older, there is no police check required. I have that Immigration Memo, but I'm too lazy to look it up. But it is in there, and now is set forth on the Philippine immigration's website.

The Philippines would easily take 2 million expats (mostly from the West) like Thailand has, as opposed to the 200,000 they have now, but the Visa stuff scares off so many people like myself. They have to realize that what makes Thailand more attractive to most is the fact you can bounce around almost indefinitely between countries and it's still more affordable. So while PH arguably has the best Visa policies, potential expats are weighing that against cost of living, not as nice infrastructure in most places, etc. It should just be super easy for expats from the countries you'd typically want expats from. All we want to do is spend our hard earned money in your country. And it's nothing new. Guy's in WW2 had a saying: make your money in the West and spend it in the East. Hundreds of thousands of veterans decided to stay or return to SE Asia after the war. The whole passport bro thing has been a phenomenon going on 100 years. It should be easier.
ummmm ... Thailand is most definitely not making things easy on would be expats anymore. Talk of a global tax liability in Thailand making things even worse

China you need a teaching job for a visa, has cheap rent, amazing adventures, delicious food, friendly people. Japan I heard it's hard, you can stay 3 months as a tourist then you need to leave. There's some cheap rentals in villages, not Tokyo. Cambodia it's easy to buy business visas without doing business but everything is sketchy and subject to change and rentals are expensive. Thailand has cheap luxury condos but expats keep complaining about visas and they no longer want broke white guys staying there. If you have money for the VIP it's easy though. I've heard of guys signing up to language courses for a student visa, but seriously, come on... can't we have a straightforward honest solution? Philippines food isn't the best, rentals are more expensive than other Asian countries, but has the friendliest visa policy, that's why everyone comes. In big cities you can find Chinese food, Korean food, pizza etc.
My fellow Canadian lots of good info here and I’ve seen him in other vids and he has the exact same info, meaning he’s not BSing. The follow-up vid on buying, longtime renting, building a house would be a great thing. We’ve all heard the stories of ripoffs and deals gone bad here in the phil. JRC, acting as an approved SRRV marketeer charges $ 600 USD, when other PRA approved marketers charge NOTHING. So, figure it out. Why is JRC taking SRRV applicants to the cleaners?
A list of "preferred providers" prepared by JRC would be great. Knowing who the best real estate lawyers, family lawyers, corporate lawyers, etc. would be great. Also, a vetted list of home builders would be worth gold. There are a multitude of video of foreigners who have been cheated by unscrupulous, of simply incompetent, home builders/contractors.
@@ChadFosterExplores Thanks. It would be nice to know how to perform due diligence on a builder from a governmental standpoint. Do these contractors have licenses and are public complaints listed somewhere? Is there a public record where civil complaints against a contractor would be shown? Stuff like this would be helpful.
Hey guys, another video would be great, thanx Chad for the difference you are making in my life through your vlogs, i might approach you to tell a good story one day... JRC contact details would be great too ❤ hello from South Africa
Would be nice if immigration thinks ahead a bitt, if 6 months changes into 2 that meens more then double people have to go to immigration, double staff there? No just double waiting time☹️
I have found that being a snowbird in Cebu City works best for me. I realize it is not financially feasible for everyone to maintain 2 homes, but if you can, it is easier to navigate Philippines BI. Iuse my condo in Cebu as a base for travel throughout Asia and the south pacific, staying in cebu only about 2 weeks at a time. I arrived here the 3rd week of July, I will be going back to Florida on 12/23 w/ out having to get so much as 1 visa waiver and will not need an exit clearance as my maximum stay is 5 months, 3 weeks. If you have the funds, and like to travel, you might want to give it a try. BTW, doing it this way avoids the need for an ACR card because you are never here long enough at one time. Hint: get the larger US passport. Happy travels.
The problem is not the visa bit the exit because the spousal visa is called parmanent but if you stayed more than 6 months you are not allowed to leave without police clearance which is kind of travel permit and this is against the human rights.
@ChadFosterExplores, here's a question for your next video with JRC. What are the steps involved for getting my partner(girlfriend, fiancée or wife) a visa to come to the USA? What are the costs and time frame? I hope you will consider this question to ask JRC. Here's another question, because I want to be sure. How does having dual citizenship help me in regards to having to extend my travel visa, or if I get married, do I need the 13A or if I decide not to get married would I still have to apply for an SRRV? Thank you, Chad for doing this video.

hi Chad, wanted to know if getting the 2-month extension will cost about 3500 Pecos. I got my first extension, and it cost me 3100 Pecos. so, I'm confused about the cost. also, I'm prior military, over 70, and if I get the SRRV, using JRC, the cost is $1500 usd plus JRC fees. what does he charge.
Does JRC Double Dip on Visa Fees, Where they charge the customer & Get paid by the Phil. Govt both? I heard 1 well known Visa agency got in trouble for Double dipping this year.
Getting Married in Philippines is no problem as long as you follow the requirements. I don't see any reason to apply for an SSRV visa if you are married to a Philippine Citizen.
Now, he is simply saying - no criminal record. I need to know about DUIs. Thousands upon thousands of good, honest, hard-working Americans are being saddled down with these so-called felony DUIs. So I need to know if the Philippine Islands are going to punish us far worse than these ogres who oversee us over here in the US.? Like Canada does!
How can we ...deal with a criminal record . . To enter in the philipiness ... or being ban .. how can be argue this ?? Have a good job in the US and need fiance out of the country, then?????
If I want to live permanently in the Ph as a pensioner, I don't want to go to immigration 5 times a year and after three years I have to leave the country, that is absurd and unacceptable
Why do Phillipins gov.keep on changing visa regulations thus make it more complicated and expensive for expats. Seems like they dont realize that there are more countries to retire to with better conditions ?!
NOW MY QUESTION IS. what if I do have a criminal history, but its all misdemeanor, zero felonies. Am I still not allowed to retire there. I mean I was a kid, it's been 15 years since any charge, can anyone fill me in????
I'm 63 now and I'm waiting to take my Social Security until when I turn 67 because the amount is much greater at "full retirement". I think I can get by financially until then. Anyway, the question is, if I fork out $20,000 in cash for the SRRV today, can I get that back before I turn 67? If not, can is "substitute" my Social Security for the $20,000 requirement in 4 years when I take my Social Security, and geta refund of my $20,000?
Hey Chad. Something a little off topic, I've never been to the Philippenes before but I'm thinking of coming the middle of 2025. Question: what do I have to declare upon arrival at the Airport?? Is it everything like my cellphone and personal belongings(portable phone charger) or just stuff like cash?? I don't wear jewelry, just a cheap watch. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
No ty if she gets tampo the way she does i rather have SRRV that way she can't tell immigration i haven't been around. I'm covering my AZZ as they say in America. Filipina's are like fish out of water flip flop 😂😂
I am 67 and will be flying to Cebu and will be arriving at 10:00 pm on Feb 11,2025. I have bought my ticket one way, I have my fiancé in Cebu. I have bought a lot which is paid off and planning to pay for the permits to build a house next. I have to have a return ticket or a continuing ticket to another country, I have also heard about a throw away ticket, if I don’t have these then I can’t enter the Philippines is this correct ? What is a throw away ticket away ticket and what countries is the cheapest and how long do I have to stay there, thanks
You just need the ticket. Hanoi is less than $50. No need to go, just get your visa extension on time. Everything in PI is about employing more people, including the government. It's a country of infinitely increasing population with finitely increasing jobs. Every occupation has at least twice as many employees as needed. And they get 1/4 of a living wage. If PI had the job efficiency of a civilized country, 70% would lose their jobs.
@ thank you for your feedback, I have SSN benefits monthly so I am going to be good with only retiring and enjoying the tropical weather, I do plan on getting married later after our house is built and we are living together
@robertstopka8051 My plan, too. Try the cities around Dumaguete. The biggest factor is noise. Quiet locations are rare. Stays for days at any lot you look at. No muffler motorcycles are the worst. Roosters, music, and parties are factors. Ending garbage burning ruins many days, too. PI is close to a zombie apocalypse in most cities.
I don't know about others, but when in high school my father taught me the concept that "time is money." All my life I have not stood in lines, and I have never done anything when I can pay to have someone else do whatever. So I'm all in on using JRC for my visa needs.
US tourist Visa requires a foreign residence. Why doesn't the Philippines do the same for a tourist visa? $10k is a lot to pay especially when you own a residence in the USA.
Hey Chad can you ask J Rr if you have the $10,000 deposit SRV visa and you get married and buy land and build a house in the wife's name can you withdraw your 10,000 and use it for the purchase of the land and the house built
What about the amount paid for SRRV, 10 k or 20 k USD, being included in purchase of condo? Is that still for a condo worth at least 50k USD? That's a lot! If it was reduced to 30 k USD or less I'd be interested.
No !! Usually a nice condominium goes for 6m to 9m Pesos .. But you have to take into conservation , they are very badly made and The land where the condo sits is lease.. So you're basically getting a shoebox for $100,000 USD
HI Looking to build in the philippines and would like to talk someone ,,, i will be in Dumaguete on about 12/12/2024 please give me the detail of JRC Thanks Phil
Next time please ask him if you don't have a pension and pay the $20K, then eventually get married and now have a marriage visa, do you get your $20K back?
On another channel that question was answered, apparently, you get funds back. No guarantees how fast funds returned, heard fast and slow , who knows what to expect.😊😊😊
Chad...very good topic, and great questions. Also important is the General cost of his assistance to guide us through the process. As far as the 20k😩 it’s like the government wants renters insurance for us Forigners,... 20 k is a lot to give when there are no gaurantees you get it all back . I have read a few horror stories about that. Part of the reason for the 20 k fee is to make shure a Forigner has money to even marry a Filipina, and second ,if anything happens ( remember..your in a Forign country where we have no rights . Jyst keep that in mind .
@@Ardirizal667 Thank you! So if you find a good wife within a year or so you are not missing out on interest very long with all that money tied up! Interesting.
You have to leave your passport with them for a week each time and it is up to the agent you speak with to subjectively decide your extention fate. Difficult to make a commitment on a house lease with that type of uncertainty.
It is a set rate. I started using a immigration service. It is actually cheaper as they get rid of the express fees and I don't have to wait at immigration for 4 hours every 2 months. Win-WIn
@@yglyjgtdfrjhisdrgj That's very interesting. May I ask who you use as your immigration service? Wow, I just sounded like the scammers back here in Canada.....lol I honestly would like to know a good contact for what you mentioned above.
IMHO the first thing is to ensure the land has a certificate of title and the people on the title are still alive. Next get a survey on the property and check the tax declaration to ensure taxes are current. Also validate the title at the BIR. You could then lease the property from the current owner for 25 years with an option for another 25. Best to also draw up a special power of attorney giving you rights to improve/alter the property. Also for me I would pay the annual taxes during the lease that way you know it's done. If the property you are considering leasing is not off the brgy road and requires you to use a right of way for access ensure all paperwork is also complete with that as well. 3 meters is the standard right of way here, if you have a truck you will need more than that to access the property. Good luck.
Great informational video. Thank you. I am comimg to CEBU for 62 days on a tourist visa. If I understood correctly, I will: 1.) Be issued a 29 day tourist visa on arrival at the airport, 2.) At the 29th day I will need to go to immigration and ask for an extension for 29 more days? 2.) At the 58th day, I would need to return to immigration to request a 4 day extension? And to also request the mandatory ACR card? Thanks

Sorry mister Chad about my comments before . I’ve been very lonely in a hotel in Davao . Making homosexual comments makes me feel better. Mike told me that you talked about me.
Do you know if that recent tax law change means that after-tax dollars transferred in from the US would be deemed taxable income on the Thai side? If "any" money transferred in is presumptively deemed taxable, that kinda sucks.
@@jackmeloff3335 somebody told me to only us ATMs to bring in cash then it's not flowing through their banks. I guess I'm looking for the legal way, not just a work around that may not be compliant with the law. Sooner or later, dodging rules can catch up and penalties can get quite large over a number of years.
I’d like to hear lawyers on contracts protecting foreigners from not owing the land but house ( there has to be ways to block a spouse from selling off your house. Freezing the assets. Joint accounts she cannot touch if house is sold. Agreed litigation. Agreed shares of property rights giving you 99% shares……. ) I don’t buy that the only option is to “roll the dice and hope she never gets mad and sells “.
start a corporation in PH with you as 40% owner and then put the house in the corporations name. You now own the land and the house and you now have legal rights. It's what i did.
@@vandinroth only additional legal step you can own house fully that sits on the land, as well as lease can be signed extending your rights significantly.
My understanding is an inactive domestic corporation with "control of the property" granted to the 40% share( the foreigner) is the way to go. Even if your relationship is bullet proof, life happens and she could pass first so this is a must if you're buying/building a house imo.
@andrewmponeill Let me clarify. I agree fully on your point. What lawyers suggested to me was on top of your structure. You own 40% of company owning the land, you can own 100% building on top of the land, and you can have lease interests extending your protection. This plan suggested to me while considering buying a hotel . With multiple angles covered, it is unattractive for land to be sold out beneath you in any future dispute.
@@tonymccreath4540 sounds good. If BEFORE marriage, the foreigner can do the structure you suggest, plus you, as Lessee, lease from her, the Lessor, her share of the land for 25 years, with an option for another 25 years. AND, you perfect an interest in the land in the form of a security agreement, with you, as Lender, and the Filipina, as Borrower, which I think is called a "mortgage" in PH. There would be a Note also, but the mortgage would be recorded and an encumbrance on the land. BUT, once you are married, the mortgage becomes invalid between husband and wife, yet the lease would continue. If you're already married, I believe a properly executed lease is valid and enforceable but not the mortgage/note, as described above. I'm not a lawyer, but I talked to one and this is my recollection.
The agent is saying they want do an interview... That means the officer will have the power to decide if you pass the interview.. I see the risk of being rejected due to a subjective wrong judgement and also the risk of corruption

Jr said if you have a criminal record that you can't get an srrv. I'm from the United States and I have a past criminal record. So that means I can't get an srrv????
Can you apply for a pardon? In Canada you can apply for a pardon after 5 years for some crimes but I’m not sure if there is a similar program in the States.
@@Christopher-wb4hr That may not be accurate. I've read that a clean record certificate from authorities in your country is required and should be issued within 6 months of your arrival. JRC, acting as an approved SRRV marketeer charges $ 600 USD, when other PRA approved marketers charge NOTHING. So, figure it out. Why is JRC taking SRRV applicants to the cleaners?
Why?
A list of "preferred providers" prepared by JRC would be great. Knowing who the best real estate lawyers, family lawyers, corporate lawyers, etc. would be great. Also, a vetted list of home builders would be worth gold. There are a multitude of video of foreigners who have been cheated by unscrupulous, of simply incompetent, home builders/contractors.
Jrc just got off suspension for changing big fees for doing visas. They get paid by PRA for each person completed

Everything in PI is about employing more people, including the government.
It's a country of infinitely increasing population with finitely increasing jobs. Every occupation has at least twice as many employees as needed. And they get 1/4 of a living wage.
If PI had the job efficiency of a civilized country, 70% would lose their jobs.

My plan, too.
Try the cities around Dumaguete.
The biggest factor is noise. Quiet locations are rare. Stays for days at any lot you look at.
No muffler motorcycles are the worst. Roosters, music, and parties are factors. Ending garbage burning ruins many days, too. PI is close to a zombie apocalypse in most cities.
go to skyscanner and enter cebu and enter (explore everywhere) that would show you the cheapest ticket.

I have read a few horror stories about that. Part of the reason for the 20 k fee is to make shure a Forigner has money to even marry a Filipina, and second ,if anything happens ( remember..your in a Forign country where we have no rights . Hi, if I have my ARC card valid until October next year , when I go back home for visit and come back is my ARC card still valid?
Yes
I'm interested in to lease land for agricultural purposes...what are my options?
If I understood correctly, I will:
1.) Be issued a 29 day tourist visa on arrival at the airport,
2.) At the 29th day I will need to go to immigration and ask for an extension for 29 more days?
2.) At the 58th day, I would need to return to immigration to request a 4 day extension? And to also request the mandatory ACR card?

They learn english on paper and have their own pronounciation that requires 2nd, 3rd and 4th repeats to understand depending on how the teacher who taught them pronounced english.

Do you know if that recent tax law change means that after-tax dollars transferred in from the US would be deemed taxable income on the Thai side? If "any" money transferred in is presumptively deemed taxable, that kinda sucks.
Doesn’t happen if it’s under a certain amount. Just don’t keep your money there banks….
Agreed shares of property rights giving you 99% shares……. )
I don’t buy that the only option is to “roll the dice and hope she never gets mad and sells “.
start a corporation in PH with you as 40% owner and then put the house in the corporations name.
