I recently installed a set of Advan Racing RS2’s on my Audi S4. I decided to go for the same size as stock because rotational inertia is a function of both weight and radius. Since the majority of the mass of a wheel is in the barrel, buying a larger diameter wheel will increase rotational inertia and gyroscopic forces. The stock 18x8 B8.5 Audi S4 wheel weighed 12.7kg (28lb) and the RS2 18x8 weighed 8.1kg (17.85lb), that’s a saving of 4.6kg (10.1lb) per corner. I went for a fast drive up the Crown Range (an awesome mountain road near Wanaka New Zealand) and I have to say I noticed a difference. It wasn’t an insane difference but the car definitely felt more responsive to driver inputs. Steering was sharper and the car felt “pointier” when going through tight switchbacks and acceleration seemed a bit quicker and more responsive. I didn’t do any really hard braking so I didn’t notice much of a difference. The car would’ve probably looked a bit cooler with 19’s but I like the functional race car look of having a decent amount of tyre. Obviously you don’t want a huge side wall because then it’ll roll and you’ll lose steering feel and sharpness but you also don’t want a tiny side wall because the tyre needs to be able to conform to the road surface to maximise grip on surfaces that aren’t perfectly smooth. If you’re looking for lightweight wheels, also remember that radius is also important when trying to reduce rotational inertia and gyroscopic forces. The linear motion of the suspension won’t be affected by diameter, only mass. TMIAE
Nice. I am also going from 18x8 12+kg to 18x8 8,1kg. But still tyres can also have a noticeably difference in weight. I know my 234/45/18 fulda sportcontrol are 9,6kg a piece. I want to go for goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric5 but dont know the weight on those.
tony1967ify Imagine a triangle with light-cheap-strong on the corners. You can only pick 2. If you’re lucky you could find a set of light and strong wheels second hand to get a deal but you’ll have to keep a lookout. That’s how I got my Advan RS2’s. They were $1500 NZD for a set of 4 and they were in mint condition. Normally they would be $800 each. Some lightweight and strong wheels to keep an eye out for: OZ Racing Ultraleggera, ENKEI RP03, any Advan, Konig Hypergram, Volk Racing TE 37. None of these are cheap so you have to find a deal on them.
I have the oz alleggerita wheels, have had them for 3 years and the first thing I noticed was the weight. Huge difference compared to OEM wheels and get lots of attention. Definitely recommend them
Litespeed Racing RS5RR forged magnesium monoblock wheels are a good choice. My 19" set weigh about 14 lbs each. Add s set of lightweight Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and you'll be saving a good 13 lbs off of forged aluminum wheels and tires.
@@pietrofacchini2984 they are cast wheels. Got them in 17x7 ET45 i think and they were 9,3kg just like the swift sport 2006-2010 wheel which was 7x6,5 ET50. (2011-2017 model had even lighter wheels) For a cast those are lightweight.
I like my wedssport sa10r. 18x8.5, around 18.5lbs. I paid $1400 for all 4 so they were a bit more expensive than the competition but I love the weight savings and I love the look. Really underrated wheel that doesn't get much attention. When I was doing my research, I noticed that gramlights really weren't all that light. They were easily 23-25lbs per wheel at 18x9.5. They are definitely cast not forged. If you want lightweight, you either need to go forged and pay a ton for it, go with RPF1s which everyone and their wife has, or to go lower in size. TE37s definitely have the prestige behind them. They are a really awesome wheel but pricey as hell.
No mention of the lightest wheel there is (excluding carbon fiber) the volk ce28n. I have a set in 14" for a very small car obviously, they weigh an astonishing 6.5lbs.
These wheels also make some of the best offraod wheels as well. Theyre usually more than strong enough for most offroaders and the lightweight helps not waste all that power when you need it for rock crawling or even just basic use with all the heavy rubber added on.
Imagine an rpf1 of 13" or 12", with a weight of just 2 or 3 kilos per wheel... at the end you could have a total weight of around 10-12 kg with tires on... and then smaller brakes, shorter suspensions, arms, etc... It could quit amount of weight, and then removing other things, just leaving or adding reinforcement in the right and crytical places of the chassis. Dynamic should just a lil bit amazing, with just 100-200 bhp.

I'm pretty sure there are some impact/strength tests in there too. Just because a wheel maybe forged, doesn't automatically make it strong. Same thing with multi-piece wheels vs one piece. A while back I had heard (some) HRE wheels were banned from HPDE events due to wheels breaking. HRE are great, expensive, stylish wheels but still have flaws. Also, some wheels can be light and strong but they will deform under certain impact conditions vs cracking.

BBS FI-R anyone? 20x9 -> 7,9 kg (15,9 lbs) , 20x12 -> 9,2kg (20,3 lbs)
What about COSMIS XT006R wheel? Are they light?
cosmis arent generally going to be light in comparison to the enkie and konig lines
Alec has a great point they are decently weighted however compared to a RPF1 they would not really stack up!
What's the difference between a track wheel and a street wheel???
Street wheel is cast, track wheels are Forged
@@kenworth3 Don't think it's that simple, mate.
For my s550 my wheels arent too bad 19x10/11 sve s350s they claim 24 and 25lbs
Rpf1s goat for non UA-camr enthusiasts.
Ayyyyyy, I'm planning on getting some hypergrams
BET! 🔥
@@FitmentIndustries any recommendations for some tires to go on them? I'm getting 17x8 with +40 on a 2017 86, preferably all season tires :)

I'm gonna go crazy for a minute. Probably gonna Eat too much, Smoke too much (cigarettes), (I don't drink cuz that WILL make you stupid), Taxes are in...now we wait...$
Plz make a vid about 7th gen maxima
What's the music?
Edit: Thank you very much for highlighting my comment.
Nice, but all more than twice as heavy as the lightest rims...
Advan also makes great lightweight wheels for the price, and all of their irl track racing wheels are wheels you can buy yourself for less than te37s.
Bbs Fi-r???
Thank you !
Waiting for a history on Kumho!
Not to brag or anything, but I'm running 18x8 O.Z. Racing Ultraleggera on my E46 and im preeety sure that they are lighter than all the weels in the video.
yeah but they're not 18x10.5 like the ones in the video
Where is Rays Volk CE28SL?
Ive been wondering about for a long time
FULL LIST OF SWEEPSTAKES RULE link broken.

No sir sadly it is not!
@@FitmentIndustries I hate you.. I love you.. but I hate you.. I see we now have a love hate relationship with Canadians.
All jokes aside, I've seen other sweepstakes that allowed canada to participate, something along the lines of the price of the Prize was below a certain amount.
something like.. 10k? Should definately look into it.. cuz you know.. fix this love hate relationship you have with Canadians ya? lol
Jasper with a beard is a cool dude
Me laughing in 34lb widened steelies 17x12 on 345/40r17 for a total of 84lbs of rotation mass on each rear corner..lol 😆🤣
😬😬😬
@@FitmentIndustries Yep, crazy that rubber tires can be just as heavy as wheels, if not more.. 😬
I was lied to about the weight of my wheels, was told they should be around 21lbs each and they’re closer to 30.
RIP $4K
My old BBS RCj were 18x8.5/18x9 and weighed 18lbs
