      Stereotypical Geeks EC Henry talked as if he didn't know this. Obviously in Legends there's plenty of evidence confirming this, but in canon Tarkin is the only story confirming it. So no not everyone does know it, I don't know who shoved a stick up your ass but I'd get it checked out if I were you.

    When I was a kid (mid to late 80's for context), my "head canon" for Yoda was that he actually was human, but he so infused with the Force, it's allowed him to live long enough past where most people would see these changes ("You never see a gray one" sort of situ). I know this doesn't hold up to scrutiny, but my biggest piece of supporting evidence was the Emperor. Since we had no idea before the prequels why he looks that way, I just assumed he was simply that old and infused with the Force. I guess you could say I was unconsciously comparing them to the Guild Navigators in Dune, the spice altering their very anatomy to go along with the greater longevity and expanded consciousness.

    Midichlorians weren't mentioned in the Original Trilogy, but their existence is kind of hinted at, when Luke says "the Force is strong in my family". I don't personally mind midichlorians, in my mind they explain peoples force sensitivity, not the force as a whole. Its suggested in the Phantom Menace that the more midichlorians you have, the stronger your connection to the force. However, I like to think its not how many you have that determines your strength in the force, but rather how you choose to communicate with them that plays a bigger role. A person with a very small midichlorian count who devotes their life to study of the force can become far more in tune with the force than the child of a jedi grandmaster who doesn't have a clue

    • @Beatness121
      @Beatness121 7 років тому +12

      Completely agree. A good example for your last point would probably be Chirrut Îmwe, who isn't naturally Force sensitive enough to be a Jedi, but through his understanding of the Force is clearly able to tap into it at least a little.

    • @Omniwizard
      @Omniwizard 5 років тому +5

      Necropost but, my headcannon on midichlorians isn't that they are you connection to the Force, but rather they feed off of Force energies, therefore the stronger your connection to the Force, the more latent Force energy you possess, the more 'food' you have for them. I think of them as more of an indicator species akin to certain plants only growing if such and such a mineral is present in the soil, you see the plants so you know the mineral is present even if you can't see traces of the mineral.

But the memory imprint was enough for him to listen to R2 when he told him he was on a mission that would change the fate of the galaxy. He faked the malfunction, and actually left the Jawa transport after the stormtroopers attacked, setting out to find himself a new home. It was a very nice story.

      I watched a video of Lucas stating the story of Anakin is the story of Lucifer, he was powerful, full of knowledge and was considered the greatest of gods (the force) creation.
      He eventually became prideful and desired to be more than just a Cherub, he wanted to be an equal to god, he didn't want to be a servant/slave, after that he waged war in heaven (attack on Jedi temple), he and Michael fought and Michael won, (Obi-wan beat Anakin, Michael and Lucifer were actually fairly close to each other like brothers) Lucifer then dies and goes by another name Satan (Anakin goes by the name Vader, Vader is actually Dutch for father.)
      Vaders Castle is actually situated on the planet Sullust which is another volcanic planet, a fiery hell.

For me, I wouldn't want to know Yoda's full past and species because it takes away the mystical element about Yoda and I also feel like it would just be totally going against Lucas' original intentions for the character if Disney decided to go down that route with him. Not sure if you would agree?

    I totally understand not wanting to know about how/why/where/who certain things happen or exist. It adds mystery and suspense for the audience. It also gives flavor to the world and a feeling of how big it COULD be.
    Sadly, NOT having an explanation of any sort, can turn a potentially awesome secret.....into a MacGuffin. For those reading this comment that don't know what a MacGuffin is, let me explain.
    It's a term in the film business used to label a person/place/time/event/object/technology/goal that has no plausible or properly acceptable explanation for its existence, and it conveniently exists solely to advance the plot of the story. If you were to remove the MacGuffin in XYZ story, it couldn't advance at all.
    For example. A character needs to get through a door, but doesn't have the means to do it. A supporting character sudden unlocks the door and states they know how to pick locks because of some random bad date with some person from high school. And said lock picking ability wasn't hinted at earlier in the story, nor is it used again. Exactly! Even if the Force is a mystery it still clearly has very tangible effects. There's no way such advanced societies would just write it off as magic and never try to break down or quantify it's presence in people. And the expansion on this in the Clone Wars actually makes it fit pretty perfectly. The system they've developed around midi-chlorians is simply the best system they have thus far for trying to translate a seemingly unknowable concept into something workable and tangible for the sentient mind. That doesn't mean they actually understand it fully or the mystery has disappeared.

      What he means is the detailed circumstances of that story are no longer canon. The character still existed, but we know nothing about him. Further, Plagius (as a character) could have been a metaphor or trick that Palpatine was using to cover up the truth of the Sith lineage.

      I haven't read the book but why do they no longer consider it canon? I thought the book was to explain what wasn't explained In the movie. As far as I'm concerned what Palpatine was trying to tell Anakin was that he was created by Darth Plagius without telling him he was.

      rick valentino Disney decanonized the entire EU and turned it into Legends. The reason is because there was too much content that was made. People who shouldn't have had that power were tying the hands of future creators, and do to the volume it meant walking on egg shells.
      A great example of this is the entire New Jedi Order era. We wouldn't have had Force Awakens if that was still canon, as there was so much material that it prevented new stories like Force Awakens.

    • @dohlecarnett1866
      @dohlecarnett1866 7 років тому +1

      You didn't understand his point. His point was not that Sidious wouldn't have a master but that this specific story might be made up, at least in parts. Therefore you could argue that Sidious indeed had Plageius as his master but he or Sidious himself wouldn't have to the power to bring back the dead which was one key point Sidious used to seduce Anakin to the dark side. If Sidious would've just played with this it would be a very nice thing for his character as it shows how sinister he is.

    • @rickvalentino6920
      @rickvalentino6920 7 років тому

      Scooter Campbell I can see the point of them making things after Jedi no longer canon to create Force Awakens, But Papatine's back story with his master is before the prequels, I can't see the story affecting anything at this point unless they decided to go back and make something with Palpatine when he was younger. At that point they may want to change the whole story. Then it would tamper with what was established in the prequels unless Palpatine was just lying to Anakin.

    no, the nature of the force isn't explained by midiclorians, just like the nature of consciousness isnt explained by neurons. im sick and tired by how stupid people are. midiclorians are just the material correlates of the force, just like dopamine is the material correlate of love. but it doesn't explain the subjective experience of love. neurons don't explain consciousness, or Qualia, either, they just suggest there's a relation between neurons and consciousness. star wars fans should read a little bit about neuroscience and philosophy of mind, they'll see there's no problem with midiclorians, the force is still a mystical energy. when you think about it, the concept of midiclorians is actually brilliant. it's the fans that are stupid

      Ethan Wagner I think they are a good thing to be honest because people will always look for an explanation to things, people rarely accept "a wizard did it" and midi-chlorians show that's what happened here. "Force sensitive people seem to have more of these in their blood or body that must be the answer"

    • @schwarzerritter5724
      @schwarzerritter5724 7 років тому

      Scott Lucas That is not what "a wizard did it means". The term gets used to describe a weak explanation to plug up plotholes, it does not necessarily need to involve wizards. You could substitute "mediclorians did it" and it would still mean the same thing.
      The thing is, the mediclorian explanation makes less sense then saying the Jedi are space wizards.

    • @kabzebrowski
      @kabzebrowski 7 років тому +12

      Because midi-chlorians, as first explained, tie force power to a fixed number (that is supposed to not change from birth till death), and ultimately don't answer the question that they proposed to answer: what is the force, its properties and origin, exactly? Midi-chlorians are just changing the question from "why does someone connect to the force?" to "why do midi-chlorians connect to the force?", they don't answer anything at all.
      However, the fixed number part is the one that puts the nail in the coffin, it kills the concept of an ancient art that you have to train hard to get good at. Basically a dedicated guy that has no midi-chlorians will never be a jedi, while an ass like Anakin doesn't need to be as dedicated to get to a good level. This may not seem like much, but that logic is also forcing you to accept that Anakin is ultimately more powerful than Yoda, even though the latter has trained in the ways of the force for more than 800 years.
      It creates, in essence, fixed (and lazy) power charts, which is why people from SW themselves had to come with all sorts of bubblegum fixes for it (like "Anakin has more midi-chlorians but is not as in touch with them", "midi-chlorians are just full potential, characters aren't necessarily using all of their midi-chlorians", etc., why say there's a number that dictates your power if then you're just going to introduce some excuse to not let that number work in the first place? Just say someone has natural talent and avoid all of that).
      They could've (and should've) went with the best scientific answer: we don't know.

    here are my thoughts on midichlorians - as I was first watching Phantom Menace, I surmised that the mysterious birth of Annakin with respect to his high midi count was due to "someone's" attempt to create a Super Sith Lord through advanced cloning techniques mixed with gene splicing. This would have led us to a very different kind of Clone War, where the Jedi would have to fight an army of Super Sith Lord clones. I've often wondered if that might have been the plan until everyone shit a brick about midiclorians and they changed their minds...

    We don't know what Boba Fett's face looks like. Boba was an unaltered clone for Jango to raise. This is still cannon, so he wouldn't look exactly like Jango, at most he'd just have a similar look, that doesn't mean he looks exactly like him. It's like you might have a similar look to your father or mother, but you don't look exactly like them, same applies to Boba. The process wasn't altered for him as Jango wanted to raise him as a son.

      Jango wanted one that was an unaltered clone, and raised that one as his son. That's Boba. So at best, Boba would only have a similar look to Jango and not look exactly like his dad as he wasn't just a straight up clone.

    When it comes to Midichlorians, there is a simpler answer.
    Midichlorians are of a larger quantity in a person who is force sensitive, and the more trained they are, the more they appear in tests. They're sort of like an extra beneficial organism in the blood (sort of like how our guts have different helpful bacteria that help us break down foods). It would explain why Anakin's MC count was off the charts for his age. He's been swimming in the force and using it reflexively for years (as a kid!) and was a natural at it. It would also explain the health issues Sith develop as they push the force harder than their MCs can take, damaging them. So it would cause the mutations and damage we see in darksiders the more powerful they get. It burns them out like a candle and the MCs are the first to get damaged.
    The dark side is toxic. While Jedi with their conservative use of the Force, don't stress their MCs and end up aging gracefully (they even live a little longer pre-empire) allowing for a benefit for walking the straight and narrow. Someone following the philosophy of the Bendu though? That is the real cracklin' power, where intent shapes the force and it's true nature comes to life. You can do powerful things without damaging yourself as long as you obey the will of the force while acting in accordance with yourself and others.
    As for R5? It was Jawa shenanigans. They wanted to foist off a scam by handing off a lemon Droid.

And only a pretty high-ranking Sith would have been able to train Kylo Ren- and have such a grasp of the force. After Palpatine and Vader, there was never any evidence of a Sith coming after Vader- as that was Luke's place but it never materialised

    Emperor Palpatine does use the technique to save someone from death in Revenge of the Jedi.
    What Palpatine didn't tell Anakin is that the technique requires sacrificing a life to save the target. It would seem the technique may require someone the target has a deep connection with as well.
    You see, in the final scenes of the movie, Palpatine finds Anakin in terrible shape on the verge of death. In the middle of the procedure to make him Darth Vader, palpatine must have linked Padme's life force to him so he would survive the brutal surgery and have fuel for his hate. This explains why there was no medical explanation for her fading.
    At the end of the scene, the sound director had both of Anakin and Padme's heart beat monitors sync up and then stop in tandem when the mask gets put on him. His heart starts up again once he starts breathing.
    Directly after waking up, palpatine knows she's dead even though she JUST died. How would he know unless he did it by linking her life to save his?

    Before Palpatine became Sidious, he visited a small backwater planet in the outer rim called Tatooine. While there, he met a junk dealer named Watto who had just bought a slave woman.
    Deals were made and somehow Palpatine managed to talk Watto into letting him get into bed with his slave. What question is there on the R5 unit. R2 sabotaged it. That was in the original release. And it makes prefect sense. R2 needed to be free and was fairly close to where he needed to be. This was his best chance. As for Anikin's father? The pre-quels screwed that up like they did so many things. There was no reason for there to be a mystery about it. There was no need for mystical birth. It only made the movies worse. Yoda's species? Who. Cares? Are you saying his species has to be some sort of magical species? That humans could never be as strong or worthy of that species? The explosion that came up after the Emperor is cast down the shaft. Who's asking for an answer? The only question is why everyone things that goes down to the reactor chamber? Exactly how stupid do you think those constructing the base are? A direct link between the surface (remember, there is only a window in that room between the shaft and space) and the reactor core? No, that would just be a shaft with some laser field to zap anything that fell into it.

It added no value to the character, the movie, or the franchise ... easier explained as a badly-written over-the-top Mary Sue moment ... and as a mother too promiscuous, too embarrassed, too superstitious, or too confused to know or admit the truth.

    IIRC it was established that Jawas often bodge together droid repairs for sale to unsuspecting customers, that last just long enough for the sandcrawler to leave before failing like that.
