    Hello there!
There are links in the description for you to watch the full edit. If you want more Star Wars fan edits, I teamed up with Kai Patterson to create BOBA FETT - A two-part movie edit of The Book of Boba Fett series. More on that here: ua-cam.com/video/HnPDF7aUS60/v-deo.html
** UPDATE 2 ** ** Spanish, German, French, BZ Portuguese, Czech and Serbian subtitles and translations are now available thanks to the incredible work of several fans. You can download the translations from the website. **
** UPDATE ** Please note if demand is high, the links or the website may be unavailable temporarily, so try again a bit later. I have just uploaded more versions to make it more accessible and am also upgrading the website to handle the traffic - I've been blown away by the demand! **
My fan edit is of course entirely non-profit, and done out of love for Star Wars and these characters. Please responsibly support the fan editing community and the series’ original creators, and only view fan edits of films and TV shows for which you already have a legally purchased copy - more info in the description.
If you enjoyed watching Kenobi: A Star Wars Story as much as I enjoyed making it and want to show me, you can subscribe, leave a comment, and share the video around on Discord, Reddit, Twitter, wherever.
May the Force be with you.
P.S - Sorry about the occasional soft thudding noises in the audio of this video.....my neighbours just bought an elephant.

People don't realize many of the people who work for Star Wars/Disney ARE FANS. They grew up with the dream of being writers and editors on their projects. The issue is that people have a bias against Disney so naturally they hate anything from them. And two, people have a sense of false ownership over something that isn't theirs and always feel like they can do better. Disney was George's vision and he even gave an interview in the 80s in response to the hate mail he was getting for editing the OT. He told them that that's the Story he wanted to tell and he put his heart and soul into it but yet people felt like they could tell a better star wars story than him..... well now many of those fans are working on Star Wars stories and of course in predictable fashion....fans on UA-cam act like they can tell a better story. And because the YT fans are not paid by Disney they tend to act like their work is better. I almost guarantee you that if the uploader of this video worked on a new star wars film with Disney and fans didn't know.... they'd universally hate it as well.

just watched the cut, and it's legitimately the best way to enjoy that story. I quit the series after episode 3 precisely because of the filler and too much focus outside of Obi-Wan's storyline. This fixes all that up and makes it so good, if i do ever run back through movies 1-6, i'll definitely be incorporating this. Granted, there are a few inconsistencies and rough spots with this edit, but nothing that big. So, yeah, thanks for fixing Disney's fuck up.

Just watched. This is a great edit and really does the job of keeping the story faithful to the series while fixing a lot of gripes that some people had. I agree that the first 20 minutes has some very rough cuts, and I personally wasn't a huge fan of the sudden opening with with the prequel insert. But you did one thing that I LOVED...
    Spoilers I suppose
I loved how you completely recontextualised Vader's motives by simply adding the Emperor scene immediately after he seems to let Obi Wan escape. It makes it so that the act of letting Obi Wan go is a key point in revealing Vader's imbalance, and from then on Vader's narrative becomes more of a question of 'Will Vader really go through with this?'.

  • @michaelbaker7748
    @michaelbaker7748 2 роки тому +26

I 100% agree, less is definitely so much more when talking about the Kenobi series. Your editing choices make a lot of sense and round off the narrative better than the series does, whilst also reflecting consistent themes from the prequels. Overall i think the film cut that you have created adds so much more weight to this story. WELL DONE. Hopefully we get better quality star wars stories from Disney in the future.

I saw another edit on UA-cam where someone had Reva sneak up on Vader immediately after he had finished pulling down the first ship, which provides an explanation for both Reva's timing, and why Vader let the second ship go. I had a much better time watching this edit you made then the show itself. Also I really liked Reva much more in this version.

@@PentexProductions I was dying at how you removed all of Ep 4 and the added score, especially during Talia's sacrifice left me teary eye. Seeing the Darth Fight paired with the flashback was incredible and added so much more weight to an already excellent character moment.
If you're open to feedback some things I would have kept is Obi-Wan donating money to that Trooper in the city, it gives him a good character as well as fleshing out the world as to what happened with the troops. I would have also kept some of the Leia scenes, especially when she comes back and gets dressed herself. It isn't her story but it would have been great to see some growth from her as well having changed from this experience.
Other then that, I would say smoothing out some of the cuts and letting scenes breath for 1 sec or two longer would make it feel lessy jumpy in areas.
These are just my personal suggestions but like I said you did the best with what you had and I think it's incredible how you managed to salvage this show. This couldn't have been easy especially because of how much of a nightmare audio editing is and making sure everything is timed probably. Definitely gonna have to check this out! My only concern is that you left the escape from Vader and Reva's attempt to kill him mostly untouched. I would have hoped you'd have put the attempt in where Vader is grabbing the ship, and cut out the entire 'tears the ship apart only to watch the second ship fly away', making Reva the reason Vader doesn't capture Obi-Wan. It makes perfect sense, why wasn't it cut this way originally!? That Reva attempts such an obvious strike well after the conflict is over instead of taking her chance while he's distracted is infuriating! And this could also explain why Vader just lets the ship fly away after tearing the first one apart (similar to how he stands and watches the droid take Obi-Wan instead of putting out the flames like he did before).
So in my head, the scene works like this:
Vader marches in, the ship launching. He grabs it in mid air. Suddenly, Reva comes from behind and attempts to strike. Vader turns to stop her. The ship flies away. Vader and Reva fight.

      @@PentexProductions you nailed it.
I'm unsure how much music you added but the scenes felt far more complete this time around and it really helped the story hit its beats. Each time I noticed you added music it was a boon to the story and it helped it maintain a star wars feel.
Cutting the entire inquisitorius deal was worth it entirely, the story moved along so much better.
You came in on the logical moment i.e. the ship silhouetted on the street is an obvious opening stinger and it worked wonders. The intro as a whole was wildly improved, especially your choice to allow a day to breathe between Bale calling and arriving.
My one big gripe, and this isn't your fault because it sounds terrible to cut around, is that Leia should have been introduced AS a captive because her home life has very little story impact outside of characterizing her relationship with her father. Cutting between her story and Obi Wan's actually makes Obi Wan feel less isolated in a way, it kinda tips the hat that he'll be leaving tattoine before long.
Reva was handled very very well and she actually came off more menacing and stronger with less screen time, I just wish it was possible to cut her flashbacks. I don't think they're needed in a story that doesn't focus on her and they're also, in your version, the first time flashbacks are used.
Finally I thought the final fight worked well outside of minor sound issues, again not your fault. Only so much can be done there, the switch to the first flashback could, potentially be cut a little differently to give it more impact but overall incredibly happy with it all.
Final thought. The Wilhelm scream was perfection.
You took a (to me) awful show and turned it into a good movie. This is now my canon version.
Edit: I'll probably watch it again tomorrow and take notes, I think this was exceptionally well done and I'd love to actually study how you cut it all together and actually find all the places you augmented the soundtrack.

Fair enough, and I did strongly consider including it for that reason. Ultimately I was trying to keep the runtime down a bit and had to be a bit ruthless. In my edit, it's left ambiguous whether or not Obi-Wan has changed or not until the communication from Bail. This is the first time we see him refuse to help anyone - so we the audience are as shocked as Bail is when he says "I'm not who I used to be. Find someone else." I felt that was a more powerful moment of character development than choosing not to intervene in a minor scuffle at work (even though I really liked how the scene functioned this way in the original edit of the show).

Pacing is king when it comes to storytelling, you can have all the big, extravagant moments you want in a film but if it's not interwoven well, it doesn't hit nearly as hard. The show's pacing was quite frankly horrendous, full of filler just so Disney could market it as a "six-episode event" and cash in, but the big moments were there and you have successfully turned a drawn out, mid miniseries into a pretty great feature-length Star Wars film. The writers knew the timeframe that Kenobi took place in and knew that Rebels happened later because that's not something that just slips by and is "fixed" by bringing him back with no explanation like Palpatine was. Unless that's actually what happened, which wouldn't surprise me with how Disney treats this franchise.

There were dozens of ways to remove him from the story temporarily if they wanted to, but instead they went with a fakeout death that I think alienated a lot of Rebels fans from the show really early on (who obviously didn't expect him to come back). But yes, because the show chose to do that I had to work with it, and brought him back to stay consistent with canon.

Now THIS is podracing! Seriously, THIS is how Star Wars is supposed to feel, making you want more, letting our minds fill in the rest that Disney feels we are too stupid to imagine. You made BRAVE cuts, especially trimming the many fan service moments. While cool to see, they only dragged out the story. A hallmark of an excellent editor!

Alright, I just saw the cut and I have a couple of things to say...
First of all, great job, it shows that you really put effort and dedication into it, I definitely enjoyed seeing it this way more than viewing it into weekly parts, with filler included.
In general terms it's a great job, obviously far from being perfect, the cuts are noticeable in many scenes tbh, especially in the music, but it's still a good option, although imo it works much better as a re-watching than a first time watch, I must clarify.
However, there were things that I just didn't like that you omitted, they were great details, they didn't absorb time and I honestly don't understand why you decided to remove them, such as the 501 Old Clone Trooper cameo, Bad Ass Obi-Wan moving the rocks with the force, and the encounter between Obi-Wan and kid Luke at the end.
But what was really wrong was that you left Reva dead lol, why? I get that the farm chase scene could have been abridged, however you just decided to leave her dead after her fight with Vader, you can't just kill off characters that don't die in the original work, that really bothered me tbh, because already I was thinking of showing it to some friends who didn't see the series, but because of those missing details I think it's not such a good option.
It's just an advice, take it as constructive critic, I repeat, I loved what you did, however, take care of the small details, we loved that you remove the filler (like the horrible episode 4) but things like the ones I mention are what it does the difference.

Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it overall. I address most of these points in the explainer video, but to expand on the main one Reva's death I think is left ambiguous. We, like Vader, think she dies, but the last we see of here she is still alive, but barely. If she were to show up again in a future property I think it would still be consistent with this edit because we never confirm she actually dies. Then we the audience would be just as surprised as the other characters that she did, in fact, survive. Think of how Darth Maul returns in the animated shows, but we assume he just dies in Phantom. If Phantom Menace had tacked on a scene just to show him alive again, that would have ruined the pacing. Same for why I didn't show Reva return - there would be no way of doing this with the material in the original TV show without messing up the pacing of the final showdown.
As for the clone trooper, I wanted to include him but the edit was messy because I wanted to remove the 'spice girl' character interaction because I thought it slowed the scene down way too much. Trust me, if it had looked neat in the edit, I would have kept it. I wanted to keep it the way it currently plays out because it lends itself to the Qui-Gonn reveal: Obi-Wan says "if ever I needed guidance, Master, it's now" and is immediately met by the street kid who takes him to Haja - a subtle indication that Qui-Gonn is in fact "always here" like he tells Obi-Wan. It's a shame to loose the Tem cameo (I'm a Kiwi, so it's doubly painful!) but sometime you have to sacrifice these things for the sake of the overall pacing.

I'd appreciate that! Not that it's a competition, and full credit to Kai for being first and for his efforts. Having done this myself, I can tell you it's a lot of work. The beauty of fan edits is everyone gets their own take on re-telling the story, but from what I have read about his edit, I humbly feel mine is more focused on Obi-Wan's character (you could say it is The Chosen Wan)...

I watched the Kai Patterson cut
The story is great but the pacing is horrible, it's like he cuts random shit or speeds it up just to shorten the runtime, not for the quality of the show
He cuts out like half the Reva fight making it clunky, he ruins a bunch of other scenes like this and removes like the only jokes in the show

I look forward to watching the edit. I really liked your thought process and agree with a lot of it. Especially your handling of Reva. You give the audience a chance to decide on their own if they like her as well as removing a lot of the repetitiveness of her scenes that make her seem incredibly one-note. Also, I appreciate that your ending is focused on the conflict that we all watched the series to see, that of Obi-Wan and Vader.

I think the over drawn speech about jedi needing to help people should stay as well... it shows that the Grand Inquisitor talks too much... but it also shows that the Empire ACKNOWLEDGES that they're evil and that, despite their flaws, the jedi were good...

The past year I had been showing the star wars universe to my not geek girlfriend. We have seen the six movies (sequels and solo doesnt exist), rogue one, clone wars, tales of the jedi and rebels. For her, once we left the republic era, it has been a step down. Rebels wasnt great and I was afraid of showing her Obi Wan because of all its problems, but still it was a crucial show. Thanks to you now she can enjoy it as cannon, saving her the painfull stuff of the cannon. Once we finish it we will keep on with Andor, Bad batch and finally Mandalorian. Thank you so much. People in Disney should take note.

Waow! What a masterpiece. You saved Kenobi! You had an amazing pacing and it really didnt feel like a fan Edit! It felt like a real movie. This Edit makes Kenobi Almost on par with Solo.
Although I really enjoyed it, I could see that some changes could be made to perfect the your edit, if you ever decide to do so:
    1. ENGLISH SUBTITLES (Just makes it feel like a produced movie!
    2. GOODBYE TATOOINE (The choice to leave Tatooine and Luke is a big one for Obi-Wan, so you could have included the ending of episode one.
    3. HELLO THERE (It just didn’t work at that scene with Bail…only time the movie felt like an edit. I actually like it in the show where he gets to have conversation with Luke, but it leaves it to the viewers imagination
YOUR Edit is a 9/10. FAR, FAR better than Kai pattersons. Even though I liked his too, his felt to clumsy and rushed. Your edit let’s the scenes breathe and you really understand Kenobis struggle.
With this edit you made Kenobi go from a 4/10 to 6,5/10. Be proud and eat well.

    • @PentexProductions

Thanks so much, really glad to hear you liked it. Good suggestions on the edits - for subtitles I'd have to transcribe the entire script and then manually encode them which is a bit too much work right now, but if demand is high enough I may give it a go (for what it's worth, I caption all of my YT videos for accessibility).
On leaving Tatooine I cut that because the moment of his decision is with Bail, not at the ship. I did enjoy that scene, and think it was good seeing the moment of hesitation by Kenobi before boarding the ship. I think it was a good way to end the episode, but I think in the context of a film it would have affected the pacing too much - especially after him digging up the lightsaber. Once he's decided to go, we want to keep things moving from there, hence the cut to Daiyu.
Agree the 'hello there' could be better worked in; I just felt like that right before Qui-Gonn was a bit too much fan service at the tail end, but I knew it'd be a controversial cut.
Thanks so much for watching it and for your comments - I really appreciate it and I'm glad it helped you enjoy the Kenobi story more.
