    It’s a tough call for best of all time but I’d probably go with something like a Hogue Deka in Magnacut. Ambidextrous lock and clip, good slicer, amazing edc, carry’s well, could be used tactically, high quality but not too nice, etc. Seems hard to top.

    Too many parameters and scenarios to determine the absolute best pocket knife. But for simple cutting tasks, keeping accessibility and affordability in mind, the best selling pocket knife certainly exists. The humble but versatile Swiss Army Knife. Estimated sales numbers last year were: 10,000,000 knives/year ÷ 365 days/year = 27,397 knives sold every day.

    The important part of "the best knife is the one in your pocket" is that the best knife for you is the one you will carry. If you won't carry it then it is not the best knife for you. I love my kizer original, fun knife to use and well made with good materials, however for me its not so good because the aluminum scales are very slick and it falls out of my pocket, so i don't carry it.
    I do agree though, the best knife FOR YOU is not the same as the best overall knife. People want to know what is the actual best knife. But necessarily what is the one you'll actually carry.

    Short answer it always has been the Sebenza. You cant ever appreciate it without spending thousands on other production knives, and until you get to that level of appreciation the biggest quantum leap in knife technology is any ol' Paramilitary. I skipped the PM2 and for me it was actually the Endura 4 FFG, Military 1, Sage 1 CF S30V, and PM1. I bought all 3 at once and that is the single biggest leap you can make even coming from Benchmades of the 2009 era because of how blocky everything was at that time.

    After decades of using and collecting. After recently selling off 20k worth of knives from my collection. I’ve settled on Spyderco PM2 and Manix2 for edc tasks. I love my Emerson’s for tactical/last ditch weaponry, if I’m out of ammo or can’t carry. I still have a lot of slip joint patterns, for gentlemen’s carry options. I went from over 250, down to 30 or so. I don’t regret selling anything.

  • @blueyedevil519
    @blueyedevil519 2 місяці тому

    In my opinion the best knife is a very complex question by who you ask, what's the price range are we talking about and what category they fall in like, the daily user, the this is the only thing I can and will pay for, the collector, the connoisseur, the I got to have them all the safe queen buyer, The I only buy the most expensive knives and the show off person and that's just a few types! Also it depends on what you are going to use it for! I hate that question "What's the best "whatever it is" and whatever could be anything!
    I love lives and I always did since I was young and I have used junk and I have used great knives! I think there isn't just 1 and only single perfect knife! There is just knives out there that for some reason you just love about it, to carry, use and proud of to carry and use! As long as you take care of your knives and they are well build and made from quality materials and safe to use and you like it that's great and that's the best kind for you until you find something better! But every time you turn around you will always will find a better knife and the cycle will always continue because knives just keep getting better and better also unique too!
    I bet anything Neeves probably get's asked that question so many times a day I bet he cringes every time he hears it! Now if you were choosing between 2 knives and asked him hey between these 2 knives which one is better, which one would you choose or even which one would perform better or stay sharper for this task? I bet he would be glad to answer those questions!
    I have watched a lot of his video's and I have learned a lot from him and from his reviews and tech talks that, I now know more what to look for and watch out for in a knife, like the material's it's made out of, what types of steel the blade is made out of the HRC and how it was heat treated was a very eye opening experience and a whole lot more I didn't know so now that I make a much more better decisions on not only the brand but the whole quality of knife in it's self! And also so many new types of knives I wouldn't have known existed before I started watching Neeves videos! When I am about to purchase a knife I find myself always coming back to MTC to watch his video first to see what it's all about first, lol!
    Nerves you have one of my Holy Grail knives I want so bad I can hardly stand it
    it's the G&G Hawk Deadlock knife! I was staring at it and every time you have it out I just am always focused on it!

    I love an old school style rant. You made all valid points. I didn't come expecting a definitive answer because there isn't one. Everyone has different utilities and purposes for carrying a knife. And not everyone is willing to spend the money for the "best" knife. Sometimes just a cheap lil knife that gets the job done is all you need. No one can make that decision except the user himself. That being said, the Para 2 is the best knife ❤️

    I could never just pick ONE, Off the Cuff...Sebenza, Para2 Military, Hinderer, Swiss Army (for the Pocket), In the Tactical Subsection, Microtech OTF's but the list goes on and on...but yeah I guess, the best knife would be the one/ones you have on you right? 🤷‍♂️ Lately, I have been carrying my Microtech MSI specifally with GOAT Aluminum Scales for about 4 months now, my other would be BM940, also with aftermarket Scales...

  • @driver8sk
    @driver8sk 2 місяці тому +1

    It makes no sense, but I keep drifting back to my regular VG-10 Delica. The steel is pedestrian, lock is antiquated, scales are boring, and the blade to handle ratio is ridiculous. Yet I keep keeps back to it. I would say because it's such a great slicer, but really something about it speaks to my monkey brain.

    You made me think about my mother-side grand-father, the only person around me that was always carrying a pocket knife. What was the best pocket knife for him? I realized that he never searched for the best or the best he knew was the simple stainless stamp on the blade. A small lockback is all he needed. I inherited of his Imperial Frontier #4514 Sportsman Lockback . I had fun searching what would I gift him today if he was still around... It would be the Buck 112 Ranger Walnut Dymalux Inlay.

  • @keithbrown9198
    @keithbrown9198 2 місяці тому

    Ha ha, it's funny you mentioned the Buck 110. I was in the USAF in the 80s and carried TWO knives, the Buck 110 in a pouch strapped to my flight suit and a Gerber dagger boot knife. The 110 I used for rigging airdrop loads, and the Gerber was there in case of a malfunction where I had to get behind the live load and cut away the extraction chute. Not so funny story, I was sharpening that Gerber one day in the barracks and it slipped out of my hands and buried itself in my calf. NOT PLEASANT, still have that scar. But TL;DR, I only now buy folders I can use with one hand or fixies (and not many of those), period. I'll never buy a lock back or a slip joint knife ever again, though I get why some might want to collect them. Choosing the best knife is a fool's errand. I have favorites, then I buy another, and that's my baby! Just ask yourself, do I enjoy this knife, do I get any personal value out of it? And if not, sell it off and get something else. There are some jewels (relatively speaking, I'm not Howard Hughes) in my collection that I will never part with, they'll go to my grandkids.

    I would venture to say you probably don’t need anything more than a para 3 for a pocket knife, day to day. It’s inexpensive, easy to tear down and clean, lots of aftermarket if you want to upgrade, and readily available in tons of steals. Anything hard use should be done with a fixed blade imo. You could make the case for a lot of knives, but that would be my one and done, can’t have 2 knives, on me everyday choice. Maybe a manix 2 for all the same reasons. But that’s me.

    It hurt my feelings that you don’t like the Buck 110. It was one of the easiest locking knives. It’s an important knife in the history of pocket knives. I’m also surprised that you don’t have a Chris Reeve Sebenza on the table since Chris Reeve did invent the Frame lock. I think some important American pocket knives should get more respect. If they didn’t exist some of the other knives would not be on the table.
    If you were trapped on a deserted island which knife would you trust your life to? I would choose a Sebenza 31 with a Magnacut blade. What would you pick?

    Best knife ever is too difficult to answer simply, sure. No surprise there.
    However, over decades of my own excessive knife use in engineering, telecom and outdoor work, with hundreds of knives because Im too stupid to pass on whats new and exciting, I always come back to leaf shapes like the Sage or Manix, and something with a hooked point I can sneak behind ropes/string/cable, like the Dodo.
    Gotta say, I didnt honestly expect to answer with Spydercos 🤔

    I bought my first folding knife sometime in 2003 it was a gerber ez-out, then I bought a smith & wesson neck knife and a victorinox pocket knife, I didn't look at another knife for twenty years until my gerber broke. Then I decided to buy another one and guess what, I only then found out that there are several types of blade steel😂

    Protech Malibu (reverse tanto version) is my #4.

      Stitch is underrated. Not many people have it in the conversation and while my favorite is probably the PM2, I have now been carrying a stitch for 2 months straight and I’ve never done that with any knife before.

    • @dickelstephen
      @dickelstephen 2 місяці тому

      @@ILYxIW agree, and I’m curious to try the other ram-lock manuals from Microtech. The stitch is awesome. I’m not a huge fan of the PM2/Para3 because as a lefty the compression lock is the worst. It’s literally the worst. Everyone talks about the pocket clip but I have several knives that have interchangeable clips and I don’t bother. If the lock can’t be easily disengaged though, that’s a nightmare

    • @ILYxIW
      @ILYxIW 2 місяці тому +1

      @@dickelstephen that’s a fair point. Everyone forgets about lefties. To me the ram-lok is an even better version of the axis lock from benchmade. Both beefier and easier to use IMO. I’ve been eyeballing the Amphibian, but not a huge recurve fan since I sharpen my knives a lot. Definitely hope they release more models

    • @dickelstephen
      @dickelstephen 2 місяці тому

      @@ILYxIW you are going to love the winterblades Severn. It’s the Mecca of axis-style locks. The designer added a jimped flexing shark-lock to the back that just performs amazingly. Agree though, I would immediately get the Amohibian if it was a drop point or spear point. The recurve isn’t my preference either. The carbon fiber version is crazy cool though.

    For me, if i could only have one production pocket knife for the rest of my life, I would go with the pm2. It's an easy choice for me. I have a shit ton of knives and could carry any of the top or favorite production knives out. My pm2 rarely leaves the pocket, and if it does its not for more than a few days. Once you carry and handle one or really any spyderco for that matter you'll understand why they're so great.

    My definition of the best pocket knife has changed so much thanks to time and knife tubers 😂
    Started from the Spyderco Tenacious and thought the Bugout was the best knive ever. Got the bugout and hated it, then set my sights on the Hinderer XM-18 (I blame you MC!). Got the XM-18 and loved it! BUT for some reason now my sights are on quirky knives so I just bought a PMP Beast Prime 😂

    I don't need the best knife made, just a one or two blade, every day carry, but, more important is, it's sharp, stays sharp, holds an edge better, good warranty, between $100-$200 ? That isn't too hard is it? 😅

    I always felt that "the best knife is the one in your pocket" truism was more about how it you need to cut something and don't have a knife on you, your expensive knife you left at home might as well be a paperweight for all the good it did you. So a knife that you're actually willing to carry and use is "better" than the one you keep in your drawer. If all you care about is bare utility and absolutely nothing else, I guess.
    But you're right that it isn't an appropriate answer to the question "what's the best knife?" because a good knife is more than just "it can cut and fits in my pocket." Otherwise we'd all be carrying Opinels and be very bored with our lives.
