I’m so glad I found this! Mine should be delivered sometime this week & this tutorial really eased my anxiety about disassembling my 4R for these headlights. 😂
Great video, this sold me on the Morimoto XBs, installed a few months ago and love them! Thanks for the detailed step-by-step install, really helpful! I previously had Kustom54s, cool look but they were very dim and high beam functionality came disabled… then the led ring on drivers side started to fade after 1.5yr, couldn’t believe it for price they charged. Build quality of Morimotos runs circles around the competition, really happy with their performance. Thanks again!
Sheeeeeeeesh ! Can’t believe I actually did it myself ! Thank to your video ! Took me about an hour & 20 little longer than most but can’t believe still. Only thing i had issues with was the fuse placement luckily Morimoto has the instructions for that and took a quick glance. Thank you guys for the very descriptive video !
Lots of good videos out there on installing these headlights, but yours is the best by far. I just ordered the Amber DL Running Lights version of these headlights for my 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner, and thanks to your video, I feel comfortable tackling this project on my own.
That’s such awesome news! The amber DRL’s are amazing!! We just installed the 2nd Gen w/ White DRL’s on our Pro and love them! Best of luck with your install!
This is definitely the best way to go. I tried installing LED bulbs and they don't get along well with the halogen housing. It was a waste of time and money. The resulting beam pattern, putting it politely, is far less than optimal. These headlights are amazing, fit exceptionally well and improve the looks of the 4Runner.
I've had these sitting in my garage for like 2 months now. I'm going to try to install them this weekend with the help of your video. Hopefully I can get it done in an hour or less like most seem to be able to do, unlike my 3 day install on my Sony 8100 headunit! (that wasn't the video install or directions fault, just mine and life getting in the way)
Thanks for your kind words! We’re not sure of a video on aiming the beams. We found it best to use the wall method to aim them even, and then go out on the road at night for a drive and test them. Initially we went too high, so we lowered them a bit to ensure we weren’t blinding those we were following or those approaching us from oncoming traffic.
Thanks for the help fellas made my install fast and easy! Have you noticed sound, humming buzzing coming from the light? Only on my driver side is this normal?
Absolutely, you got it! There shouldn’t be a humming noise. I’d double check if you have the right harness (if applicable) for your vehicle and that your DRL harness is set up appropriately!
I see the plate that was just put on the 202 models on the grill that allows pre collision, turn lane awareness, and automatic breaking. Once the lights were installed and grill was put back on, did you have to recalibrate the grill or sensor system?
Great question! Nope, we didn’t have to recalibrate anything. All you do is plug back in the connector to the collision system and it all works perfectly!
Wish these looked as good as the ones for my tacoma and had the option for sequential light !!!! Not sure why they didnt add this option for the tacomas..
Hey guys great video, I used it to install my morimoto headlights on my 2021 4Runner trd offroad. Has anyone else ran into any issues from disconnecting the cable that connects to the radar/crash avoidance system? Because I disconnected it while watching this video it’s now flashing warnings at me that the lane departure assist and crash avoidance system are at fault and I need to see a dealer and they won’t go away. They say they can’t do anything to fix it either because my 4Runner has a non oem lift kit on it so the telemetry is off and they can’t do the recalibration. Please if anyone else has ran into the same issue any help would be greatly appreciated!
So, the bulbs aren’t serviceable on these headlights but the set is covered by a 5-year warranty - if you have any issues all you need to do is send us a photo of what you’re experiencing and we’ll get the warranty process started immediately.
When you installed the add a fuse, you went into a blank spot on the fuse box, so did you have your own extra fuse that you supplied into the "add a fuse" wiring? I also have a 2020 4runner and am already running raptor lights into my ING slot in the engine compartment fuse box. Morimotto also recommends using the EFI 2 slot if installing on a 2020+. Thanks in advance!
For our Morimoto install we used the INJ fuse for our DRL’s. Is that what you’re referring to? For our Raptor lights, we ran power to the cabin fuse box.
@@TrailGridPro in the video it shows you picked a blank fuse spot for the DRL that was between a 7.5 and 10a fuse. The INJ fuse is further down to the left in the fuse box. Or are you saying you removed the INJ fuse and put it in the add a fuse then moved it to the blank spot in the fuse box?
@@LucasJohnsonVisuals Yep, just a regular fuse and the DRL’s work on start up as we showed in the beginning and end of the video. Let us know if we can help with anything else! Thanks!!
Should I be worried when washing my truck after this? Like do you guys avoid washing the front side with the new lights? Or is there nothing to worry about?
Just bought a pair of these for my 2022 TRD ORP and followed this video which made it more than easy. For some reason, my driver side DRL wont turn on via switch. All the other functions worked and I replaced the 10A fuses in the tap...still no luck..any idea?
Sorry for the delay! How’s it going now? If still not as intended, what fuse location are you using? For 2020+ Morimoto recommends the EFI fuse location and we’ve found if that doesn’t work as intended then going inside the cabin to an ignition fuse location does the trick!
@@TrailGridPro Yeah was using that slot with no luck. However, I did reach out to the place where I order them from. Apparently, there is a 2021-2022 (Limited/PRO/Off-Road) specific harness. So they are sending that out to me to see if that was the issue. The harness that came with the set was for 2014-20+ (non-limited/all other trims)..Hopefully, that solves my issue.
@@wnderinbasecamp Oh, yea - they definitely won’t work correctly without the harness. Sorry, we assumed you had that when we responded initially! Glad you got it figured out.
Hello ! At 20:55 in the video you started to insert the add a fuse in one direction and then u stopped, turned it around, and inserted it. I read orientation of the add a fuse matters. If it fits both ways, how do you know which orientation is correct? Thanks!
Great question! To find the proper orientation, remove the original fuse from the vehicle fuse holder, and place the fuse for the new accessory in the fuse holder in the position parallel with the wire off the tap, and then re-insert the tap into the vehicle fuse box. Test with a DMM for voltage from the wire off the tap, and if you have ~+12V, you have it oriented correctly. If you don't have +12V, rotate the fuse holder in the fuse box, and then retest.
When connecting the hardnest to the fuse box. Every video i seen this.all ya say is with your add on fuse. What add on fuse? What fuse number is it on the Add up fuse? Does it comes with the headlight or do we buy it separately.and again what size is it.or was the fuse already in the place where ya connected the hardnest and that's the fuse ya add.can you please explain
The fuse you added into the harness before connecting into EFI empty slot no2 was it a 10A or 5A fuse? Or was one there already? My slot there is currently empty with no fuse present. Can you advise, that part wasn't super clear..
I'll be installing these headlights hopefully this weekend. But i have an off topic question. What % tint on the driver and passenger doors? Also, is the windshield tinted?
Did the exact same thing on my 2020 TRD Pro. I had the Gen1 lights that got replaced under warranty and they gave me the Gen2 this time around. Same process and same fuse location but my DRL’s do not come on during the day when I have my lights set to AUTO like they did when I had the Gen1s in there. Any input on that?
Love the content! Just a quick question. I noticed that your headlights and taillights videos are months apart. Did you purchase the headlights first and saved up for the taillights? At first, I was thinking about saving money until I have enough for both first but I may get the headlights first because I want to slap the Morimotos on so bad. Did you ride with the morimoto headlights and OEM taillights for a couple months?
Great question! When I first bought my 4Runner I swapped for the tails immediately for the smoked Anzo’s, then got the Morimoto heads and then swapped the Anzo’s for the Morimoto tails last.
That is correct, if you don't want the sequential turn signal there's a plug behind each headlights that when plugged in will be non-sequential and when unplugged will be sequential. We mention it in the video when we're placing the headlights in to the vehicle.

I'm trying to find these online but I can only find ones for a 2014-2019 Tundra. Does anyone know if the Tundra one is compatible with a 4runner?
You running the gen 1 or 2? Looks like we picked up a Pro about 6 months apart. I got the gen 1 installed but finding I need to run fogs full time to reduce the severe beam cutoff. What's your experience? Btw I'm also in MD.
Awesome! Where in MD? We gotta go wheeling! So, I got my lights in June - so honestly not sure of the generation. Is there a date cut-off of gen 1 and 2 that you’re aware of?
@@TheZenoParadox Ah, then I’m definitely gen 1! My buddy and I are planning a trail ride for next week. Hit me up at cliff@trailgridpro.com if you’re interested in joining! No hard date or exact plans/destination yet - so we’re open to suggestions!
We've found it's easiest to move the dial with a phillips-head screw driver. It does however take quite a few turns of the dial to move the light beam.
As far as we know, out of the box, these headlights won't work on a 2013, but what we're not sure of is it because they simply don't fit a 2013 or is it also because of different wiring/plugs. We'll look into it!
@@TrailGridPro saw a video of a guy installing a 2014 OEM headlight on a 2010 4Runner. The only difference I saw was that he had to wire something extra for the 2014 headlight turn signal to work. Maybe this would be the only technical issue for them to work
I had that same issue and I just swap the adapters from driver side to the passenger side and the passenger side to the driver side. And that fixed it.
Great point! So far so good! We absolutely love them and just upgraded to the 2nd Gen model so if that’s any consolation for our huge support of the Morimoto headlights. Appreciate you watching and for your comment!
Yes. Nothing changes with functionality since it utilizes all factory harnesses and the sensors that activate the auto high beams sends the same out to the high beam. Truck still assumes it’s using OEM front lights
That's 100% correct! So sorry, David. Your question must've slipped through the cracks here. Our apologies, but thank you Ryuuji for picking up the slack! We appreciate you both!
still waiting on my harness for a 21 4runner. sooooo theoretically, if its the last wire that doesn't fit because that was halogen high beam, can I still install without that wire and not run high beam until a harness is released?
Makes sense it wouldn’t. Wiring harness would have to be different from factory if they run OEM leds now. Morimotos were designed with a harness that supported a halogen light assembly
DO NOT USE THE FUSE TAP RECOMMENDED IN THIS VIDEO. The fuse tap used in this video is constantly drawing 3x the acceptable amount while the engine is turned off, as determined by Toyota. I used this fuse tap for several months and my battery would frequently die. It got to a point where it was dying overnight. Use the INJ fuse even if you have 2020+. I have a 2020 and it does not kill my battery. You will not be able to close your fuse box all the way, however. If you daily drive your 4Runner you may be able to get away with using this fuse. If you ever plan to leave it more than a day, do not use this fuse.
I’m on my 3rd battery because I had it plugged into the mir htr (mirror heater) slot and Toyota said that was the problem. Did you replace the 3A fuse that comes with the DRL tap with the 10A inj fuse? Also, in the install guide, they have since put a note to use the EFI 2 slot on 2020+ models but on mine there is a 7.5A… I’m gonna use the INJ 10A and see how it goes. Any addition insight would be appreciated. Thanks!
@@Raedeokillah I didn't use the EFI 2 because of that. It didn't seem safe plugging a 7.5A fuse into a 10A fuse tap. If I can remember, that fuse won't even fit in the supplied fuse tap. I called Morimoto and asked if it was safe and the customer service rep I got didn't know. Decided not to take my chances and went with the INJ fuse slot. I still have mine plugged into the INJ fuse slot and have had no issues since.
@@austinwilliams45 ok yeah I went with the INJ as well yesterday. I’m hoping it doesn’t draw any power when the Runner is off, because I don’t drive it everyday. Yep, we shot this vid just as the Gen 2’s were about to come out!
What are the tires and size you have on that? Also, is it lifted? Great video gents!
We'll be putting out an update build video soon, stay tuned!
You running the gen 1 or 2? Looks like we picked up a Pro about 6 months apart. I got the gen 1 installed but finding I need to run fogs full time to reduce the severe beam cutoff. What's your experience? Btw I'm also in MD.
Awesome! Where in MD? We gotta go
wheeling! So, I got my lights in June - so honestly not sure of the generation. Is there a date cut-off of gen 1 and 2 that you’re aware of?
@@TrailGridPro if all three lenses light up for low beam, they're gen 2. They came out right around mid August. Would be great to do some wheeling!
@@TheZenoParadox Ah, then I’m definitely gen 1! My buddy and I are planning a trail ride for next week. Hit me up at cliff@trailgridpro.com if you’re interested in joining! No hard date or exact plans/destination yet - so we’re open to suggestions!
Are they compatible with 2021 model?
Not yet, but hopefully soon!!
I’m having difficulty with the adjusting doesn’t move down or up
We've found it's easiest to move the dial with a phillips-head screw driver. It does however take quite a few turns of the dial to move the light beam.
@@TrailGridPro I’ve gotten the left one and right one I just feel like they should be more up is there a max level height ?
is there anything extra I would need if I’m doing a 2013 Limited to a 2014 TRD facelift in order to install these headlights?
As far as we know, out of the box, these headlights won't work on a 2013, but what we're not sure of is it because they simply don't fit a 2013 or is it also because of different wiring/plugs. We'll look into it!
@@TrailGridPro saw a video of a guy installing a 2014 OEM headlight on a 2010 4Runner. The only difference I saw was that he had to wire something extra for the 2014 headlight turn signal to work. Maybe this would be the only technical issue for them to work
@@eduardonarvaez6205 Yep, I’m sure that’s it! 🙌
for some reason my drl are on even when the lever switch is off and not on drl. is that normal?
What year 4RUNNER do you have?
@@TrailGridPro I have a 2022 orp. I got info saying that's normal. It turns off when the car is off. So it's not a big deal but wasn't sure.
I had that same issue and I just swap the adapters from driver side to the passenger side and the passenger side to the driver side. And that fixed it.
Have you had any complaints about them yet?
None. We personally use them as well and love them! Thanks for your question!
Great info on the install, but ya gotta include how they perform 🤦♂️
Great point! So far so good! We absolutely love them and just upgraded to the 2nd Gen model so if that’s any consolation for our huge support of the Morimoto headlights. Appreciate you watching and for your comment!
Could you do a vid on how to aim them?
I can add it to the list! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@TrailGridPro No problem!
what lights are behind your grill
They’re Raptor Lights from Overland Depot.
Great video!
Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
What number is the pink fuse?
Are you looking for the 10a INJ fuse? If so, it’s labeled on your engine bay fuse box cover.
Do these work with the automatic high beams?
If you have a Limited or a TRD Pro, the harness is available currently. What trim do you have?
@@TrailGridPro I have the venture package. If the last wire is for high beam then I don’t really need it until harness comes out. Any insight on that?
10:37 forgot this 🙊
Ah, yesss it’s a vital step!
Why is every body installing these headlights they all failed after a week or so
We've had the Morimoto heads installed for over two years and they're going strong!
Has anyone tested if these work with the 2021 model year yet?
Yep, it’s been tested and they do not work, unfortunately.
Makes sense it wouldn’t. Wiring harness would have to be different from factory if they run OEM leds now. Morimotos were designed with a harness that supported a halogen light assembly
@@jusimplicit Exactly!
Yea that makes sense, well guess I’m stuck waiting until they come up with an adapter or a new Gen that fits my 2021
@@tikitronco Yea, hopefully they will soon! When they do, we’ll certainly carry it!
Sorry, NO to the raptor grille lights. A 4Runner is not a "want-to-be".
I couldn’t agree more. 4Runners are definitely their own unique animal. Love them so much! Thanks for watching and commenting. Appreciate ya.
Thanks for your feedback and for watching, Austin! We did use the 10a INJ fuse.
I think I put in my comment that I’m on my 4th battery now. At first I thought it was 2 bad batteries in a row but then the 3rd one died and I knew something was wrong. Thank you
Worse design ever just to swap headlights
Thanks for your comment! We love Morimoto's lights and haven't any issues with their designs!
what’s that add a fuse called and where can i get it?
Any add-a-fuse will work, and they're available at most auto parts stores!
