- In this video, we do a full TRD intake install on our 2022 4runner. This install would be the same for any 4Runners from 2010-2022. Install is pretty straightforward and only requires re-routing and looming of the MAF sensor plug. We hope this video helps you in some way and if you have any questions please comment below. If you want to pick up a TRD intake for your 4Runner head over to yotaxpedition.com to grab one. Thank you for watching and remember your xpedition is on the horizon!

I ordered a TRD CAI for my 2024 4Runner off amazon before Christmas. It was discounted about $150 from list price. However, the seller shipped it by USPS (boo). It got lost in shipping (Literally, the tracking info said Package Lost) and after about 5 weeks, I was able to get Amazon to refund my money. Then... Lo and Behold, it was delivered to me last Thursday, Feb, 1st. So, I got it free. The same day, I received a S&B intake, that I will now send back to them. I had ordered the S&B because it was significantly cheaper and still had good reviews, but now I no longer need it. Miracles do happen.
I love when stuff like that happens lol. Sometimes you get lucky.
I'll take whichever one you don't want 😢
By far the best install video I’ve seen for this intake 👍
Here in Canada, Toyota kept telling me the TRD Intake “is not available for 2020 & up models”. So I gave up. I ended up installing an S&B in my 2020 Pro. It’s good, but I secretly wish I had the TRD Intake. Keep up the great videos.
Yeah, I'm not to sure why Toyota claims this doesn't fit when it clearly works fine.
Excellent install videos. Encourage you to keep going. Y'all are doing great.
Thanks! Hoping to upload installs weekly
Installed by TRD CAI this afternoon, very happy. The intake has a throatier sound and should pair well with a Magnaflow overland series exhaust in a few weeks. Thanks for the install video, first rate and straight forward installation.
Awesome! Will definitely sound good with the exhaust.
I just purchased my TRD CAI for my 2012 FJ Cruiser TTSE and watched a lot of install instructions via UA-cam but yours is the best thus far. Thank you!
Awesome! Great to hear
@@yotaxpedition I have a follow on Q. I installed the CAI per your video and then had no cold air via my aircon the following day. I’m not sure if they both correlate to each other but wanted to check in with if you experienced the same? I’ve got my FJ scheduled for a Freon recharge on Monday.
@@davesantimaw5413 Your air conditioning system and your intake are not related at all. Must be something else causing the issue. Is the AC compressor kicking on?
@@yotaxpeditionYes it is. I’m thinking it’s low on Freon
GREAT video! Love the detailed steps and not cutting between steps like other videos.
This Channel is going to blow up, glad to be one of the first 200 Subs!
We can only hope! 🙏
@@yotaxpedition Just bought a TRD last Friday, was super hard to find. Ill be sure to keep up with your channel!
@@AC-jm6yf Awesome! Hopefully, we can help you along the way. We hope to post at least once a week.
love this step-by-step installation procedure. going have this one in the future.
Hope we made it easy for you to do the installation.
Great delivery, man.
I really like this instructional.
Thanks Mark!
Great video! Thank You Sir!
Thanks! Hope it helped.
Great install!! No wonder these 4runner suck water up. Just an elbow into the fender
Yup! That's why we also installed a brand new snorkel on it as well. There's a video on it if you wanna check it out!
Great video! 🤙🏽
Thank you!
Might've just sold me on one of these!
We're doing a giveaway on one soon as well! Keep an eye on our site or instagram
Should make a custom engine cover!!
Just an idea
Having trouble accessing the air filter with trd cold air intake. The way lid of hinges on the back of the air filter box makes this difficult. Have you found a good way to do this without taking the tube off the filter box and potentially needing to unplug the MAF?
We didn’t run into an issue with getting the lid on and off. We’ll look into it though.
Great video. I have a '23 TRD Pro, so wouldn't it have a 'TRD intake' minus the branding? Or is this really a different beast?
If your intake does not have the TRD logo, then it is the same as the standard air box on the lower trims.
Looks nicer for sure, and a K&N style filter but they both pickup air from the fender so this is really just cosmetic and sound right?
You'll get better air flow as well. The new filter flows better and the intake tube also doesn't have a baffle on it, just straight pipe into the intake.
Great video, thanks. Just followed your vid to do my install. I noticed the top cover doesn't exactly completely seal - I can still see the edge of the red filter between the top and bottom cover. Did your top cover close and seal completely? Looks like some dust may be able to get into the box? Thx
The filter should be squished between the top and bottom of the air box. Seeing the edge of the filter is normal.
@@yotaxpedition Awesome thanks
Can you see the red filter sticking out on the front facing side? My lid seems to not to be fitting exactly.
Between the top and lower portion of the airbox you can see a very little bit of red. The 2 sections of the airbox are squeezing the filter edge to create a seal.
@@yotaxpedition did you noticed any mpg increase or decrease? Mine lowered. Any ideas on what I can check?
Do you really need to undo the plug? Looks like it would still reach without having to redo the tape, etc.... 🤔🤔
Do TRD have intake for 2006 4Runner 4.7 V8
What size is that second smaller fitting you’re installing at the like 9:35ish mark? My kit didn’t come with one and I need to source one.
Where did you order the kit? I would contact them and see if you can get a replacement.
@@yotaxpedition bought it slightly used.
Do you think I can use it on Toyota Tacoma 2014
Can you feel the difference between and K&N filter from this Trd cold air intake. Overall would you recommend this air intake
The main difference is is the intake noise and aesthetics. Cant say that you can feel a major performance difference with the butt dyno.
Will there be any additional steps for 2020 due to the tss system
This was installed on a 2022, should be the same process.
Just had unit installed on my 2023 4Runner Pro. Had Toyota installed $250. Yes it fits.
Surprised Toyota installed it for you.
How did you get it so discounted?
@@yotaxpeditionIt's a Toyota TRD part; it's the only piece my local Yota dealer will install. Which sucks cuz there's no one in South Florida that touches rigs and there's so much i want to buy...
i thought they didn't make a cold air intake for the 2022 4 runner or is this an older version that's compatible? I wanted one for my 2022 TRD Pro 4Runner
Toyota claims it doesn't fit but that's why we made this video. Fits perfectly fine with zero issues.
@@yotaxpedition Spoke to a dealer, said in states that require an emissions test during yearly inspections could possibly fail. Anyone having that issue?
We haven't had any issues with that. I'm not really sure how it would affect emissions to the point where it wouldn't pass. If you have no check engine light on then it should pass. And we've had ours installed for almost a year with zero issues.
will I need a tune for the cold air intake and will it void my warranty
No tune is required and it is an OEM Toyota part so there should be no problems with the warranty.
Can you you have a throttle body spacer with this trd cai?
I'm sure it would work, worst case just trim the intake tube a little shorter.
Wow this is a lot harder than on the Tacoma.
Did you guys disconnect the negatives terminal?
Yes. You probably don't have to but since you're unplugging the MAF sensor, better safe than sorry. Takes 10 seconds to loosen the terminal.
Nice set up. What is the cost of this product? Thanks
The link to our website for the intake is in the video description.
There are a lot of us who are more concerned than just looks and sound. How about performance?
Really cant answer that unless we had a dyno to see the difference.
Does this TRD cold air intake fits 2023 4Runner TRD Pro???
Yes it does!
That stock oem intake looks better than the TRD intake your installing……..looks bigger too 😮
Whatever you like. But all the extra nonsense on the OEM one is sound dampening so you don't hear the intake as much.
besides looks and sound what are the advantages in performance over oem intake?
Better air flow and filter
Is there data that states how much hp and mph you would gain?@@yotaxpedition
It’s that fit to 4Runner TRD pro 2023? Thanks
Yes, everything should be the same on the 2023 model.
@yotaxpedition This will fit 2021 SR5 runner?
Yes sir!
It’s that fit to Toyota trd pro 2023 ? Thanks
Yes it will fit any model with the 3.5 v6!
What’s the part number for the air filter
PTR43-00083
Will this also work on the 2023 4runner?
Yes, everything should be the same.
Thanks. Tried to get the package and told wasn't a match for my 2023 trd pro premium
Will this fit a 2023?
Yes, ours is a 2022 and the 2023 is the same.
Can you still add a snorkel on it
Most, if not all snorkels are manufactured to fit the OEM intake. But the TRD intake is pretty much the same design as the OEM one and should work. I've seen people do it before. I can't say the same for other intakes.
It looks better and sounds better?
Yeah, well that's like a fishing lure designed to catch fisherman instead of fish!
And, depending on where you buy this thing it will cost you $350.00+ for some plastic.
I care about PERFORMANCE (air filtration, mpg, reliability, horse power).
Do other brand cold air intakes, such as S&B void warranty?
Technically no, they shouldn’t. But this will depend mostly on your specific Toyota dealer. If you want to be 100% sure, I’d go with the TRD.
So for reference, if you don’t buy the item from Toyota it will most definitely void your warranty, even if it’s a Toyota product it has to go through them. Any after market item that isn’t Toyota will void the warranty, I found out through my dealer when i got my 4runner
I have a 21 PRO, wanted to upgrade to the TRD CAI...toyota told me there isn't one made for that yr and model
They claim it doesn't fit but it 100% fits. Before we did the install I talked to Toyota and they told me the same thing. That's why we tried it and made this video. To show it does work.
Any MPG gain?
We didn't measure MPG's with and without. But if there is a difference, its not much.
Huge scam and waste of money.....you will get nothing but looks and sound for the price you pay.
A lot of people pay for sound and looks lol
@@yotaxpedition I know but convincing of that is next to impossible
Dynos out there also confirm minimal HP/Torque gains. 350 bucks and a self-install for a 5hp/19ft lbs on a $45k vehicle is worth it to me. Even if it only offsets my additional skid plate weight. What may be a waste to you isn't for an enthusiast. We all spend our money the way we'd like. That's why we work hard to earn it for ourselves.
@@SamuelBalsamaExactly! That works out to $70 per pony. Doesn't sound like a waste to me. I have the TRD intake on my limited 4x4 and I love it. I also have a cat back exhaust, pedal commander and an adaptive "race chip". I did each mod one at a time to see how much each changed the truck. Individually it wasn't much, like the intake. The biggest difference was adding the chip, which I did last. Really ties all the mods together and allows the engine to make better use of it's new lungs. I'd love to Dyno it for actual numbers, but it's definitely a different truck now. Feels sporty and powerful. Certainly not words I would have used to describe it when I first got it. Currently looking at the 76mm throttle body everyone says ALSO "does nothing and is a complete waste of money." Which I'm beginning to think translates to "would be kinda cool if I could afford one".
Will this fit my 2023 4Runner TRD Pro. Part #PTR03-89100? Thanks!
Yes it will!
