I would say Helmets Meantime album was the first Nu metal album but it was never classified as that genre. This album was the true game changer though for sure
@@robdurfee6861 I agree, Meantime is the granddaddy of them all. I saw Korn,, and Helmet opened for them. It was a travesty. The Korn Heads booed Helmet off stage, and Jonathan Davis sucks live. There are many bands that have credited Helmet for their sound.

- This song is about a man who worked with the band on T-Shirt designs. He did work with the band but he was the band's main meth supply during the first CD when they all did meth behind each other's back. The reason he was called Ball Tongue because he would get so high on meth he would sit, eyes wandering aimlessly with his tongue hanging out in a ball. As is common with heavy methamphetamine users. Ball Tongue eventually turned on them, stealing electronics and other musical instruments, hence the lyrics "You were my brother, the friendship ends."

the guitarist, Head, is the one yelling "ball tounge" definitely Trash or Seed should be the next song and yes its a song done on meth but the real song about meth related subject from them is called"Helmet in a bush"..Head had a huge problem with meth which led him to leaving the band in 2004 leading him to becoming a Christian but then luckily for us fans coming back to korn in 2013 check "Love and meth" from them thats the album where he came back

I've heard two different reasons why the song is called Ball Tongue. One, because it has something to do with drugs and two, it refers to a tongue piercing
They (JD at least) have described it as what your tongue does when your tweaking. As in you “get ball tongue”

I’m 36, used to listen to this era of norm when I was like 12. Literally started listening to the self titled album for the first time in 24 years, as I’m older I definitely appreciate how unique the album is. Definitely its own genre of nu metal that couldn’t be duplicated.

The bass is actually making the weird sounds. Fieldy uses piano wire for guitar strings. Tunes it then detunes a half step to achieve that sound.

Ball tongue was one of their old friends. He used to get high on meth and his tongue would hang out and it looked like it had a ball on it. So they called him ball tongue. I believe this song is about a falling out they had with ball tongue
Apparently the song is about, they had a friend and manager, they recorded this song while on meth (hence why hes going so crazy on the track) the friend they mentioned, when tweaking, would seize up and his tongue was like a ball.
i read an article where Davis said they were high on meth and that's what made this song sound so crazy

I never considered Korn nu metal. I always considered them Korn. They are their own genre lol. Nu metal is what came after them but they themselves, are not nu metal. That is a disservice to the originality Korn brought starting in 1993 (or 1994 with the official release). You should react to more from the first album like Clown, Divine, Faget, Lies, Helmet in the bush... the whole album!
