- I'm still not sure what to make of Slipknot's Scissors. But I hope you enjoy watching me try to figure it out. One thing's for sure. It'll be nice not seeing "Scissors" over and over in the comments. :)

This was pretty much, "This is a song about suicide. 'Bidding my time until the time is right' to kill himself." But then it was, "He's cutting someone up with scissors. 'Bidding my time until the time is right' to kill her." But then it was, "No, wait. It *is* about suicide. But..." So this "she" isn't a literal she, then. Is that it? At any rate, this was a lot to deal with and process. :)
Scissors was my absolute favorite when i first heard it. I went through a bit a of a rough part of my life, and when I heard this song I instantly connected with it for some reason. Then I read in a comment from another video saying usually only people went through some shit likes this song. It’s so humanly raw and emotional. It’s definitely not for everyone and I hope no one ever has to feel or go through to feel like this song.
from what i heard, its about the drummer, Joey Jordison (R.I.P.) wanting to date someone but when she rejected him he got suicidal.
Scissors is mostly known for Corey completly losing his mind while recording lol. This one alongside IOWA and Skin Ticket are the songs that you can really sense that. With IOWA being the full descending into madness, not only because of the song itself but also because of what happened while they were recording it.

@@rodeo2026 well long story short in recording iowa all of the band members hated each other and while recording iowa corey cut himself and throw up on himself and countinue performing.
@@adrianbenchev7064 I thought the vomit was during this this one, with the cutting during IOWA? I remember reading about the 🤮 thing in Metal Edge before thet were even recording IOWA.

As i said before i dont know if u saw it Corey said it was his favorite song to play with the band he said in an interview “To this day it’s my favourite Slipknot song. I love it because every time we would play it, the whole second half was improvised. We played at each other, free form, free prose, everything. It was violent and gorgeous.”
its about a person who is a drug addict who cuts him self up like the lyrics biding my time until the time is right is talking about the build up to the suicide. there is a lot of meaning to every thing he says in this song about emptiness and no one cares about him. but in the end of the song he is just sitting there in his own blood crying and screaming for his life to end.

I love how strange and experimental their first album is, and if you listen to the demo before Corey joined the band (Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat) it’s even more strange. I also understand that they are no longer those people, a lot of the original members are no longer in the band and I really like their other albums, and the fact that they are so different from each other. Clown said in a recent interview that they "don't wanna create the same painting" and I respect and admire this.
Your reaction to the "zipper" was the highest point of the video for me. LOL

I think they dont sound that way because they are not those people anymore. So i think its great that they dont try to stay the same way to appeal but to do what they want. I like all their sounds exept for most of the grey chapter so im on board for everything and hyped for the next album.

@HellSpartan Z yeah there are some great on there and im not saying its a bad album at all. Its just that the other albums resonate better with me. But negative one, custer, aov etc are good but the whole „vibe“ (dont know another word for it) wasnt for me. Im very happy for you if you like it consistent but i sadly didnt.

@@MusicCatsandCoffee you should totally check out the live version of this, they get crazy turning themselfs on fire and other weird stuff, alzó coreys voice is so good in this era, definetely not healthy for him but it sounds brutal. (I am sorry for my bad english I am from México)

Pretty sure this song is about self-harm and drug abuse, and if i recall correctly Corey once said this is his favourite song.
And keep in mind back during these first albums Corey used to physically hurt himself when recording.

Well that got off to a good start... looking at an Iowa era photo for a self-titled song. 😬😂 This song was originally called 'Heartache And A Pair Of Scissors', is officially unreleased, and was written either before or around the time Corey joined the band in '97. The recording for this earlier version has previous singer Anders on vocals. Sandpaper was used to create that one sample during the start of the song. A sweetheart tube is a tube of sweets (candies to you) called 'Sweethearts'. This song is creepier than 'Iowa', and is probably the most disturbing song when they used to play it live. They made it last about twice as long and Corey would go into these psychotic rants about halfway through the song, repeating certain phrases over and over. They also used to set fire to themselves during this particular song.
As much as I love their first 2 albums, you can appreciate how the band has beautifully evolved.
I love this song due to its brutality and loose song structure. Unfortunately after Iowa they never tried experimental songs like this. Personally took it as someone committing suicide due to being rejected by significant other. In the middle when he screams is sound of him cutting himself. End of song is him dying with those coughs.
I was grinning like an idiot watching you react to especially the last section of this song. Love it, hahaha.
This song was a great way for me to escape from and cope with my social anxiety and bullies back in my teenage years.
What I love about it is how experimental it is. For the most part Slipknot uses drop B tuning for their guitars and bass, but this one takes it a step further by taking the 6th guitar string down from low B to low F# to give it that super dark heavy ambiance. And after Corey was finished screaming “biding my time until the time is right” that’s where the song goes into full on freestyle, because from that point on the band would play something completely different from that point on till the end. For instance on one performance in Germany Corey starts screaming “when you’re left with nothing, you become nothing” and on another show somewhere else he started saying “…the only lives they give are the lives they allow. Old people rule the fucking world, what’s why young people have to kill it”.
i have been on a binge of ur vids! so awesome i love ur input on these songs and seeing you not knowingly say stuff but then learn and laugh. mean wile all of us old people (slipknot wise) r like ha noob... not in a mean way or anything but it's just funny. i would for sure recommend iowa the title track and spiders! can't wait to watch more!
Im excited about the new album, Shawn(Clown) recently said,"I've never heard Corey like this" . I wish they bring back the kind of music they did with the first album

Ooh wait till you get to the Iowa title track, by far their longest track and their creepiest in terms of audio ear candy and the backstory as to what Corey did to himself to record that song in just 2 takes

How about "Slipknot - Metabolic"? That song is so beautiful. The falsetto's and acoustic guitar in that one is so soothing. They surprised me with that one.

Okay let's go to the explains, the most of the distorted sounds are Mick and Josh guitars with a lot of effects, the intro sound are both guitars, the clock sound is Mick guitar, the someone part high sounds are not pinsid, is Mick guitar bends, and the you wanted part are Mick and Josh shreding they guitars.
How the hell is the 'clock' sound done by Mick's guitar?

Most of the effects are done bye craig and sid other are done by scratching the strings on the guitar
There isn’t really a super weird “murder” type song from the new album but the one song from We Are Not Your Kind that has a weird and different sound is My Pain which I highly recommend, it’s weird but really good.
I think songs like not long for this world or gehenna have big chance to get in the top 10

If you want to want the real interpretation you'll have to ask Anders Colsefni, the vocalist from Slipknot's very first demo album "Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat" which this song was first featured on under the name "A heartache and a pair of scissors". I personally think it's about drug addiction, a failed relationship, and self-harm/ suicide.
This song was not on MFKR, it would have potentially been on the unreleased follow-up album.

This just sounds like Ross influenced it. Pretty similar to KoRn-Daddy with the emotional torment and/or release for the vocalist.
They had a version of this on a disc from 1997, before they worked with Ross

That's my attitude towards the 'Iowa' track that everyone keeps ranting about. As a song it's not that great, and I feel that it's only because of the knowledge of what happened during the recording session that it gets so much recognition. I personally prefer the earlier version 'Killers Are Quiet'.

As a newer slipknot fan... hadnt heard of this... tbh, wasn't a fan... and i usually don't mind creepy or experimental. But ya... didn't think it was that great.
I have said before, i genuinely believe you would love 'not long for this world'. It is heartfelt and tragic but still metal. No pressure but i really get tired of seeing fans of these bands only push their most disturbing songs on people, just to disgust them or weird them out.
May I suggest: '...And Then There Was Silence' by Blind Guardian? It is a 14 minute epic about the fall of troy, told as a vision of the future by cassandra. She was the daughter of the king of troy and was cursed by a god who tried to hit on her and she rejected him. He gave her the curse of foresite, but also that no one will believe her if she tries to tell them the future.

What about the production? Mixing? Emotional intensity? Percussions? Samples? Song structure? This song has so much to offer, besides the rawness. I wanna see people talking about the other instruments, but most of them are only focusing on the vocals and lyrics, not even talking about the other, important things making songs like this amazing.
