  • The M4 iPad Pro models that Apple released earlier this year have a display upgrade option that allows you to purchase nano-texture display glass, which is supposed to cut down on glare.
    We've already reviewed the ‌iPad Pro‌, but we thought we'd revisit the nano-texture glass upgrade to see if it's worth the purchase price.

    The nano glass also makes text appear to sit on top of the screen rather than behind a sheet of glass. This is particularly impressive in dark mode and looks amazing. Reading while sat on a fast moving train on a sunny day is a whole new experience.

    I do love the nano texture display, as my workplace has a lot of bright lights that reflects on screens, now I can watch movies without having blown out areas, but does seem overall SLIGHTLY less bright, but worth it tbh. Unless you don’t have AppleCare, then I’d recommend a matte screen protector

    What about a "paper" screen protector on the standard glass as an inexpensive alternative? It would be great to see a comparison.

      Plenty of comparisons on this platform. Not nearly the same. But has its own pros and cons, and for some people it’s the better option. It’s just not the same as the nano glass.

      Wrong, it’s aimed at certain people, there’s far more involved into adding nano textured displays and let’s face it how many parents allow there kids to use their iPads and drop them numerous times? So out pops apple care constant repairs for the nano textured displays, so now parents who have spent thousands of dollars on an iPad they will think twice before allowing kids to borrow it, people abuse apple care let’s face it and if they didn’t then we wouldn’t have this issue, FYI I have purchased the full package the 2TB nano textured 13” iPad Pro with matching keyboard and pencil pro which I wish they would bring a range of colours and it’s cost me in total £3670 and I certainly 100% won’t be allowing my younger nephew’s to use it, and to be fair this new device has rendered my MacBook Pro M3 Max void as it does more and it’s far more portable, touch screen, practically same typing experience, i literally have only a few minor gripes but it doesn’t change the fact this is by far a game changer for professionals, and the M4 chip is insane I seriously cannot wait for AI
      if you do or don’t have it i seriously do suggest buying one, im even contemplating purchasing the 11” 1TB standard glass as a backup or throw around one and using my 13” to attend work meetings, clients etc the whole apple eco system is great I can also copy something from iPhone and immediately paste it on my iPad including photos pictures etc web pages, stage manager is excellent 👌 and the brightness compared to my 6th gen 12.9 pro 2TB is a whole new level, i really don’t see that to much of a difference when it comes to the oled screen colours with the nano, it basically looks almost like a fake screen which gives it a more expensive feel, IF and they will apple bring this to the new MacBooks in the fall or spring I may trade in my old MacBook for the M4 Pro chip not the max this time around

    Please don’t turn the iPad sizes into a fight. It’s a subjective decision decision. On top of that it’s very likely influenced by body size, at least to some extent. For example, my girlfriend who is 5’2” think my 16 inch MacBook Pro is way too heavy, whereas I who is 6’2” don’t think it’s heavy at all. I have the bigger iPad because I want a larger screen one of you content, whereas you who might be the same body size as me, Mike want the 11 inch iPad because you just want something that’s a little bit easier to hold. It’s 100% subjective and it’s not something anyone should be or needs to be a team about.

    • @fVNzO
      @fVNzO 11 днів тому +2

      No. The storage pricing is down to greed for sure. But this option is only meant for people that use ipads as actual professional tools. And they can't make infinite SKUs so they had to make a decision. They can only have so many models so it would either be a low storage + nano and one high or just two high storage options. The latter makes the most sense since you can sink the BOM into their fraudulent nand prices. That is the obvious reason why.

    • @fVNzO
      @fVNzO 7 днів тому

      @@fcztyuo876b6 Also forgot to mention there are two color options, cellular for every single option as well meaning for every nano texture option you have 4 SKU's. And they removed the 128GB models this time so the overall number is the same as before. To make room for more Nano options they need to gatekeep either cellular or make 512GB the lowest tier. It's really not that hard to fathom, apple are relentless with their supply chains. Nothing is done on a whim.

    What would the nano screen be like with a screen protector on top? I want to protect my investment, but think it will nullify the $$ spent on the feature itself. Considering a matte screen protector as it does both; protects and helps with glare? Sure, it's a consumable, but protects the cost of new screen (unprotected), amiright?

    Have to slightly disagree with you on fingerprints and issue a word for warning - because I had to return my M4 iPad Pro and replace it with the standard glass. Here's why? Yes - slightly fewer fingerprints, but those are harder to clean off. What's not obvious when you buy it is you can only clean the nano-texture with the supplied cloth - and that isn't just marketing BS. Other cloths have almost no effect. What's more, you have to clean with some vigour.
    No liquids other than occasional use of isopropyl alcohol - this makes it a pretty needy screen and a month of use was more than enough for me - and, 'can only clean with our cloth' and other restrictions should be made clear as a warning at the point of sale.
    But that's not the worst. After putting this in a backpack, with the Apple Magic Keyboard attached, and a few other things in the pack, I arrived at my destination after an hour of travelling only to find that there were two prominent horizontal lines marked on the display. These were impossible to remove - I didn't have the cloth with me - and highly distracting.
    Around the keys of the Magic Keyboard is a raised lip - this had been in contact with the glass, and the pressure from carrying it in backpack had marked the glass. When I got back home, I was able to remove them - with extreme vigour - using the cloth provided - but it took almost five minutes.
    Now I loved the screen, but come on. The idea of a portable computing device, designed to be used with your fingers, and you need to carry a special cloth with you, and putting it in a backpack marks the screen badly? I'm not exaggerating this. My biggest worries were - I can't carry this with other things in a pack (?!) but mostly - over time, will these become permanent? Honestly, they were tough to remove.
    Good news is that Apple agreed to refund and I bought the same model without the nano-texture and I'm very happy with it. The agents I spoke to (it had to be escalated up twice) were great, and really shocked - promising to pass this to the development team. For clarity, I've been an iPad user since the first model and while it's my secondary device I use it all day and often travel only with that, so I have a lot of lived experience with various models.
