    At first I was definitely going with the traditional display because you know… OLED. But when I tried it out at the store (mind you i didn’t notice it was the nano texture because I thought it was the standard display because it didn’t look like my idea of a matte display (like paper like), I kept going back to the nano texture for the pencil experience. Hands down it’s what I’m going to get.

    I returned the nano Texture because… it was too harsh to my eyes. In sunlight/outdoors is fantastic for visibility (except for the edges, that are super glossy!), however indoors the PWM was too much and the quality of the video inferior compared to the other model. The blacks are not bad indoors, only with a lot of reflection, in which case the blacks turn dark gray but perfectly visible. Indoors, and in general use, I had a strange eye fatigue which doesn’t happen with any other device (including the M4 glossy).

      You must not want to take your ipad outside then, as the nano texture destroys the glossy. I have had a glossy ipad pro mounted on the dash of your f-150 for years and it has a textures screen protector to diffuse the light, didnt realize how shitty it was until i throw up my new nano ipad pro. Holy shit does it block out all reflections making the screen so much more useful. Way better than those matte screen protectors if you think you can add one of those later and get the same results

    Nano 100% the way to go if your outside even 10% of total time with device. Especially if your sharing a screen with someone, nothing worse than just staring at the person next to you via screen reflection, horrible experience if you dont go nano. Nano takes every reflection away and leaves screen beautiful

    I think OLED is gaining an undeserved mythical status. It looks good, and the underlaying tech is thinner which is hugely beneficial for a tablet/phone, but LCD with advanced backlighting doesn’t really fall short when it comes to color reproduction and seemingly even Sony now thinks that diffusion-filtered Mini-LED might become the future after all, while other high end screen makers like Eizo didn’t really believe in OLED to begin with.

      @lovebombLanae Місяць тому

      @@Wokiis there's a world of a "difference" .. no-one said it means the older screen is bad. But the point is to upgrade quality and they did it with the screen. You can literally bring in your old iPad and compare them ... if you haven't real world experience you are just talking out of feelings bc you aren't able or in the market to upgrade. Your 2018 iPad will still look good no worries but that oled looks better

    • @Wokiis
      @Wokiis Місяць тому

      @@michealadebz That is a pretty tiresome response. I think you kinda snooze-read my post.
      I was talking about the difference between the two techs in general while acknowledging that OLED as a tech makes sense for the iPad and phones in particular. It just doesn't look better colour-wise than what panel makers can achieve with LCD + mini LED, and in terms of an actual technical evaluation of colour accuracy vs previous mini LED has to my knowledge not been made by any publication as of yet.
      If they've configured the non-reference mode to show more colors or not this time around, while sad if they leave out accuracy for vibrancy, is a bit of a different matter.
      But no, if it looks better or not (outside reference) is actually subjective. I would say the blooming of the previous iteration (that could have been improved upon like on the MBP) certainly knocks it down a peg, but I was responding here to a video that praises colour, hence my focus on the subject.
      In the future, expect LCDs to stay around in the high-end and be just as good as OLED. In those cases where not every millimeter matters. Hence why I don't like seeing OLED blanket term being put on a pedestal.

    The display is absolutely insane. Only Linus in his review really demonstrates this. He said - it’s literally one of the best displays on Earth, comparable only to reference units costing 10 times as much. It has to be seen to be believed. It’s that good.
    And yea. The glossy is the way to go. The extra brightness is enough of a boost for me to be used outdoors, and I’m with your colleague - the nano texture kills the black levels, which is a regressive step, to my mind. It just looks more premium without it, too.

      It probably depends on the person. I find the OLED more comfortable because the whites and black look better and there is more contrast. Makes it feel less like a display. It also is more responsive. But others can have issues with OLED due to PWM. But it's a small subset of users.

      It is not about how the technology has improved, but how the previous message about how glorious the OLD technology was. It is the TONE and unbridled enthusiasm about something when first introduced that was once so great is not so much anymore. You have an interesting “balancing act”. Some of us remember the old “act” and now compare it to the new “act” and think it is an “act”. Apple is lucky to have the benefit of this phenomenon.

    Annoying video that doesn't really offer any new insight, or even a good comparison. Also blacks are better on OLED, but the whites are actually pretty mediocre, and are usually more of a pink or yellow, than true white. With all the respect in the world, I feel the need to defend myself a bit here.
      UA-cam ads are terrible. The CPM is dropping year-after-year making it harder and harder to be profitable. Let alone the push from UA-cam into Shorts which I also have to produce that make basically zero and take added time.
      Mid-roll ads are an easy, palatable, above-board way of monetizing the channel. There are a lot of shady ways people make money on their UA-cam videos but I want to make sure I'm always clear and up front with everyone so no one is misled.
      When I have a mid-roll ad, I make sure that it is a product I'd use or that my audience will like. I also want to make sure it's nicely integrated in the video with chapter markers so it is super easy to skip if it doesn't appeal to you.
      I know it sucks to optionally watch a mid-roll ad, but it's kind of where the market is shifting at this point. There's no other way to make the channel successful let alone to grow it.
      I appreciate your support by watching the video and I appreciate everyone who subscribes and supports our sponsors. Much love ❤️

      Na, if youre using it for anything but media consumption, its a much better experience IMO. Gestures are much more reliable and there is no slippage or sticking with the pencil or your fingers. The standard display looks slightly better but its by a small margin and the difference if even less in a dark room. One of the reasons the colors seem a little muted is because we keep seeing it demonstrated in well lit envrionments. When theres light, the screen can either diffuse the external light or reflect it so part of the reason for the apparent difference in the display quality is because the nanotexture is doing what it was designed to do. I bought the standard and after a week, decided to exchange it. Drawing on glass is insufferable and the naked matte display of the nanotexture looks better than any screen protector on standard glass. For 90% of people, who use it for social media and netflix, I would recommend the standard though.

When outside and trying to view screen and not everything behind you when compared to glossy or matte protectors, this nano it wayyyy better at taking EVERYTHING of the screen with minimal impact on blacks. If you cant see the screens content fully because of reflections, who cares if your not getting 100% inky blacks? Youre seeing other background content on your screen that ruins the whole experience anyways. Nano all the way, well worth the $100
