I returned my standard glass for the nanotexture after your original review. Took a month to get to me but it was the best thing I could have done. Im obsessed. It feels incredible to draw on and so easy on the eyes without the glare. Im also noticing that when Im in a dark room, the blacks look deep, as you would expect with OLED. Reading is much better on it as well. Cheers
I got the Nano texture after having regular too, and it’s the best drawing device I use. It’s an absolute pleasure to use. And also, with nano texture, I’m finding myself reading on the iPad for the first time too
Glad you’re enjoying it!
right, nanotexture is really great, decent and comfortable
Thanks for the tip on the privacy settings.
You got it!
Well, well, well… he finally drops what we’ve all been wanting to know. 🔥
Haha
Thanks for the Ai drama pointers! Cant have these artist-terminators learning my perfected stick-figures
lol no worries!
Adobe should have made this a opt-in feature, not a opt-out
Agreed.
I've lost all trust in Adobe. Adobe Lawyers and Adobe friends explaining it "in simple language" also seems suspicious.LOL. Can't they just put the simple language in the TOS?
By far, one of my favorite channels, you inspire me to keep drawing even if I don't know how. Thank you for sharing and all the effort you put in your videos. Your'e so talented with the story telling. Thank you Chris!
Thank you so much 😀
Man U are making me want to buy this 1tb with the mat screen!
Thatte be matte not that be mat ;)
I love the nano screen! It feels like silk compared to the regular screen! It’s fantastic!
Agreed!
I draw at least an hour a day. Trying to learn animations so i just create characters at the moment. Learning a lot from you. Thanks again
Glad my videos have been helpful!
I'm sooooo telling about the cloth thing!!! Great video!
lol u better not!
Thanks for the info... didn't realize it was a thing with Adobe!
No worries!
The more I look at reviews and research the Nano-Texture option, the more I'm sold on it (esp. as an artist). That said - the scratch test that's widely gone viral now still irks me from pulling the trigger. Have you noticed any visible scratches, or deterioration of the nano-texture coating over time - especially against some of the pencil functions are pressure sensitive?
I suppose the long-term effect is more of the concern here because I've been using the Bellemond/Paperlike screen protector for quite a while as well; and using it for both drawing, mobile gaming, etc. you can tell certain sections of the protector have lost its "grit". There are clear 'smoothed out' spots (for gaming with thumb in the corners) vs the matte/paperlike spots.
Also thanks for the Adobe Opt-Out tip! Did not know that was there.
So far it’s perfect as I show in this video. I’m not too worried about it. I had a matte display on my old cintiq that I used for years without issues. So fingers crossed I guess!
Chris, I love you videos, you are hilarious. :) I just got my nano-texture iPad (yay!)! Curious if you've noticed banding/striping from on yours while filming?
Thank you so much Brooke! I haven’t had any issues like that so far.
Many thanks for this update. I know you said you would do this, but still, it’s really good of you to come back so promptly with your thoughts. Can I ask what you use to clean the screen, as in cleaning fluid? It’s good that fingerprints are reduced and that it wipes down easily with the cloth, but of course it also has to be cleaned with a solution too. Just wondering what you have been using. Be well.
No worries! I haven’t had to use any cleaning fluid but Apple says you can use a 70% isopropyl alcohol.
I’ve been drawing with my M4 for about a week. It kind of reminds me of drawing on smooth Bristol board.
Ah yeah I can see that:
I totally agree! It feels like the smooth side of a Bristol board, whereas my old paperlike screen protector felt like drawing on the rough side. (And drawing on my old iPad with no protector was like drawing on the window!)
Hey Chris! Does the M4 still auto-dim when it’s working too hard/ multiple apps open? My m2 does that and it drives me nuts
I haven’t noticed any of that. There is a display option for “reference mode” that disables all automatic display adjustments
I’m sorry if this has been asked already, but what case (if you use one) and drawing stand do you use for the new iPad? I’ve looked everywhere and I feel like nobody has released accessories for this thing yet.
I still use the same drawing stands from this video:
ua-cam.com/video/j2_KjBV_soE/v-deo.html both of them are technically for the previous iPad but they work fine with the new one. The fit is slightly more snug, a little bit more with the DarkBoard, as the rubber on the sketchboard 2 has some more flex. The new iPad is the tiniest bit bigger, you can barely tell when they are side by side. The iPad does sit a fraction of an inch lower but I don’t notice it when I’m drawing. I have an ESR case specifically for the new iPad that I use when I take my iPad out of the house.
Wait, how are you using the sketchboard pro with the new M4 iPad? Does it fit in one of the old models ?
Yeah, the new iPad is barely any bigger. It’s hard to even notice. It’s a slightly more snug fit, but it’s a rubber cradle so it doesn’t seem “sketchy” at all, and after a few times it sort of stretches a bit. It does sit a tiny bit lower but I don’t notice when I’m drawing. I doubt I’ll even replace the cradle when an updated one comes out.
Hi Chris, great video btw, quick question what is your Adobe subscription plan? i've noticed that u have photoshop + lightroom, but there is no Fresco on the list??
I have the full plan as I use multiple apps for my work. That said, if you’re using an iPad you can get Fresco through the App Store and use it for free, or pay $10/year for the version that allows you to import brushes and gives you more creative cloud storage.
Whoa! Whoa! What is this sorcery?! I ordered your Another 1,000 Days on Sunday and I already have the book (it's Weds)!
I'm interested in getting an Ipad and I want to use Procreate, I am not an Adobe fan and will probably never use their products. I really appreciate the tech vids.
Thanks for ordering the book and glad it made it there so fast!
Hey Chris! Does the sketchpad pro 2 work with the new ipad pro model please? Its hard to tell as it says its for 6th gen 12.9 inch ipads?
It does. It’s slightly more snug and it sits a teeeeeny bit lower but it’s not noticeable for me when I’m drawing. I use it everyday with mine.
I went to purchase the drawing board you’re using and they said it wasn’t compatible with the 2024 iPad models. Will it work with the M4 iPads? Or do you have a custom not-yet-released version of the board? Thanks!
It works with both the Astropad DarkBoard and Sketchboard 1 and 2. It’s just a slightly tighter fit and it sits slightly lower, but I don’t notice it when drawing. I use them both regularly. The sketchboard 2 is mainly on my desk and I use the DarkBoard when drawing on the couch. The sketchboard 2 rubber cradle seems to have stretched a tiny bit so now it pops in easily, but at first it was pretty snug. I never felt like I was going to bend the iPad or anything though. I demonstrate it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/KEq2Ybb8PKA/v-deo.htmlsi=Kb38Tn0RbxARt8z5
@@chris-piascikWow thanks so much!! I really wanted the Darkboard (I’m a couch drawer) but they insisted my new iPad wouldn’t fit. I’m going to watch your video then roll the dice and grab one. Thank you!
@@ChicagoDesigner I’ve been using the DarkBoard nearly every day for the last month with mine.
I have just bought the M4 with nanotexture and it's great to draw on. I dont understand how people think it feels the same as the normal glass. The only thing that i think that would make it better is a more wacom style nib to the pencil.
Agreed!
Interesting. When I go to data and privacy settings in my account, it says "You have been automatically opted out from content analysis for product improvement when using Creative Cloud and Document Cloud apps. This setting does not apply when you separately choose to participate in product improvement programs." It doesn't even seem like you can opt-in, at least not on that page. I wonder if this is in response to the complaints.
Hmm I dunno, maybe you opted out in the past somewhere else? I remember opting out from Photoshop at one point I think.
Great work, that stand surround looks like an essential accessory.
Thanks, it’s definitely my favorite accessory for drawing.
@@chris-piascik I looked everywhere on the Internet. Where did you get it? I want that stand :-) thanks, Chris.
@@mariacruse6195 There's links to both in the description of this video: ua-cam.com/video/j2_KjBV_soE/v-deo.htmlsi=2GZQJABj9zKC4AUV
Wait, I thought the skeboarch pro wasnt compatible with ipad m4 yet ? Or is it ? On their website it’s not available
Both the sketchboard pro 1,2 and the DarkBoard work with the new iPad. It just fits a bit more snug. The new iPad is barely bigger than the previous model. I use them both everyday. The iPad sits a teeny bit lower than flush as well, but I don’t notice it while I’m drawing.
My wife has the same IDLES shirt as in your thumbnail! They were sick live!
Oh nice! Definitely great live!
Do you ever notice a scratchy sound at times? Can’t tell if it’s expected or if it’s the tip/dirt
Hmm not that I can think of, but it’s been hot hear so I have the ac on most of the time and that’s pretty noisy.
Stumbled upon your channel because of the new Ipad - I'm probably going to bite the bullet + subbed ;)
Thanks for the follow up and follow through on the "promise" - despite some nasty comments in one of the previous videos
No worries. Thanks for the sub!
Thank you for your review. I plan to get a new iPad Pro and is deciding whether I should get the nano texture glass. My eyes feel more comfortable staring at the nano texture glass than the standard glass one. However i am worried it gets scratches easily where the staff at Apple Store said they do not recommend using Apple pencil for nano texture glass option.
Really? That’s kind of interesting. Mine arrived yesterday and I also don’t know yet what to do. It looks fine but I guess it’s not that different than my old one with a mothca screen protector on. And no worries at all that something can scratch the display.
That’s a wild thing for the store to say, the iPad Pro is designed to be used with the Apple Pencil. They go hand in hand. You’d be missing out on so many features by not using the pencil. Apple would not have released it as an option if it could not be used with the pencil. The nano texture option is positioned for creative professionals that need the most robust machine and all of the pro apps utilize the pencil.
@@chris-piascik I asked another staff yesterday and he did not mention you should not use Apple pen for Nano Texture glass option. I was quite worried about the scratch vulnerability as there were quite a few review about it on Reddit.
Can confirm. There where already some cases where they somehow managed to scratch the screen. But from what I can say: maybe it’s the ring. I wear my weddingring on my drawing hand and it’s titanium. So I guess being not careful enough can cause demage. But from what i can tell: if you want a good surface to draw on and also do want to have some glare reduction I can recommend the mothca matte glass screen. It doesn’t ruin your pencil and also it doesn’t wears down since it’s glass. The experience was nearly identical. The mothca has only a fraction of more RGB shimmer if this is something you are looking for. Used it on my previous iPad and after half of a year it still looks new. They are so close to each other that I also derive towards buying the normal one and putting this one on top. I will compare a bit more these days but there is definitely no huge differences. Maybe the nano handles glare a bit better when drawing under direct sun but that’s the biggest difference.
In my experience with any screen protector the gestures sometimes don’t register and I find that annoying. Spending the last month drawing on this iPad without a screen protector has confirmed that for me.
I also got the nano texture after watcging your video and love it. :) I am still nervous about it scratching due to the jerry rig everything video, but tbh I have a 4 year old kindle which is plastic coated and it doesn't have a scratch despite me being way less careful with it than my ipad. So it's probably fine imho (which is why I ended up getting it).
Glad you love it too. I’m not too worried about it. My old Wacom cintiq had a matte finish and I used that for years without scratches. I’m sure if I used metal tools on it like that video it would have scratched as well though.
Love the Idles shirt in the thumbnail...and also all of your vids.
Thank you! Love Idles.
Chris Chris Chris!!q At 6 minutes 34 seconds, I see your iPad on a white stand with little feet, I want to get that. Where do I get that? I just bought a new iPad nano and I want to get that stand that you’re using :-) never mind, never mind! I read the comments, and I found what it was called… Thank you for everything you do Chris you’re amazing!
Thanks so much! Here’s the video where I talk about those stands: The BEST iPad upgrade for artists.

Thanks for the Adobe Privacy Easter Egg!
No worries!
Gracias por la informacion de la privacidad ! saludos desde Uruguay !!
The issue I have with Adobe is with the fact that they tell us that we give them sublicensing rights to any and all content for them to distribute, modify and use at their will.
That’s just standard for any apps like this because they need to reproduce the images for thumbnails, etc within the app. The key part is where they specify “solely for the purpose of”. On the Adobe instagram page they explain this pretty well with one of their lawyers.
@@chris-piascik the fireside chat on Instagram isn't binding. I've never heard of a company stating the user agrees to allow the company sublicensing, and not sure what thumbnails within the app would have to do with licensing on any level. If the work is only regarding the software's allowance to create a scaled version for us to use as a thumbnail, then why would we need permission to see our own stuff for our own purposes. Adobe is becoming more and more shady, and I don't like it
The problem with Adobe is they show a "monthly" price, but in tiny letters say "annual plan billed monthly". Then they also have a "cancel anytime" mention, with no mention of the cancellation fee when you sign up. So, yeah, you can cancel anytime, but it will cost you the remainder of the subscription price anyway.
Also, they charge more for their subscription than any other art program out there by a long way, yet only provide minimal updates that are comparable to those other companies. Their business practices are predatory in multiple ways, and just because they clarified their TOS after all the backlash does not mean they suddenly became a good company. They're rotten to the core.
I sincerely hope someone will take this opportunity to come up with a Fresco like app, because it's legitimately good and the only product Adobe has that I don't see a real competitor for. Concepts may be close in some ways, but it's somehow more expensive than Fresco while missing some of the features. But I digress. The point is, we should all do our part to make Adobe fail fast.
@@chris-piascikNot good enough. How about the scummy subscription cancelling practices?
@@chris-piasciknot good enough for us, they should at least pay users for using their content. 😡
You probably get that question a lot, but what is this "case" stand? You are using here for the iPad?
Here’s a video about it: The BEST iPad upgrade for artists.
ua-cam.com/video/j2_KjBV_soE/v-deo.html
Hi Chris thanks for all videos! I d like to ask you if possible to make a video abou how to rotoscope with Fresco updated...I know rotoscope is not your goal but if you can solve a easier way to do that using Fresco would be awsome!!!
I actually have a video coming out on Tuesday that should help you with this!
Sounds promising! Now I have to wait a few years until this feature trickles down to less expensive iPad versions. At some point I might actually become independent of my desktop (Windows) machine and not having to replace it with a Mac …
Hopefully you don’t have to wait too long.
@@chris-piascik I'm not too optimistic, judging by the 10+ years it took iPad OS to get to where it is now. I guess around 5 years from now might be realistic (that's when I retire and no longer need all the stuff that only runs on my PC ;-)).
has anyone been dealing with battery drain both ipad and apple pro pencil? it's getting abit frustrating.
Hmm no, I find the battery lasts longer than the M1 iPad Pro I previously used.
@@chris-piascik how long do u say it last, in 1 single use? of the pencil, I track and it's about 3 hours for the battery to deplete till 10 percent, my ipad would last around 6 hours on procreate which is fine.. but the apple pencil pro is abit disappointing
Where can I get that MF Doom cartoon sticker @0:35 you have?
I got it from my friend Evoker. You can find him on Instagram.
4:56 adobe, manage account, account and security, data and privacy, then turn off analysis, and ??
You’re not giving them permission to train it’s AI features on your files
Still missing some hours, so I will wait a little longer
I’ll keep going!
I draw 2-3 hours a day. Wish I could do more, but with making puppets I can’t commit my whole day to it, and I don’t want to get an injury. I would rather draw less now to be able to draw for the next 20 years.
Note I injured my arm using a mouse 8 hours a day when I was animating. Found some fixes for it though

i did not like the screen drawing when i tried it in the apple store
You probably shouldn’t get one then!
Yeah, Can't be support Adobe. And if I was you, I wouldnt either.
No amount of explaining or justification will ever bring adobe back or bring any single nano-milometer of trust back.
Their practices are utter shit and completely untrustworthy. From practically stealing peoples drawings, to secret and subtle ToS changes and shitty practices when it comes to their subscriptions and payments.
Just turning off the feature, to your knowledge at least, shouldnt give them the pass. Not only that but finding it is hidden on purpose.
Stop supporting them, stop using them. Doing so means you are part of the problem.
I mean he's free to do as he wants and I'm not hating on it buuuut you're not wrong. I'm going ultra hard against Adobe and we NEED to boycott them.
Nobody mentions the fking latency bro the line u draw is directly under your pen finally, before it smudged 1cm after the pen how nobody mentions that am I the only one sensitive to that
Sorry bro. I had the smoothing cranked way up because I was doing final line work and the sketch was already done. I like lots of smoothing at that stage because I’m just finessing the lines and it’s more efficient. Fresco’s smoothing looks like lag because it corrects as you draw. If you turn it down there’s no disconnect, and that’s how I set it when I’m sketching.
Love the awkward exit at the end , lol!
C’mon Chris…. join the boycott! You know you want to. 😂
Haha, it’s a bit tricky as a professional illustrator as the majority of my clients need Adobe files. I’m still holding on to the idea that Adobe will do something to further clarify things and do right by artists.
jerry rigs everything made a video and the nano texture skratches so badly
Hasn’t scratched for me using it to draw all day.
No, he didnt. He said it scratches easier than the regular glass, which is true. But he never said it scratches 'So badly'.
shame on you, using non-apple stuff just to save money!
Hah whoops
I draw every single day except last few days, because I sold my M2 iPad Pro for buying M4 iPad Pro 13 but my choice is glossy display, because I have no money for testing nano texture🫠
From what I’ve seen, unless you’re using it in direct sunlight very frequently, the extra few hundred is not worth the time. People still using stuff like paper like for that texture anyway.
@@napostrophen I’m using iPad at home most of the time😊 and you can choose nano texture in 1Tb or 2tb model, so price difference is really huge for me😊 my monthly income is about $800 only😑
I can use protection for display with any texture I want, but with nano texture I can’t make it glossy or paper like
Sorry for my ugly English, it’s not my native😊
I have the nano: just buy a mothca glass screen protector and you will have a near experience. They are so similar that I dint even know yet if I will keep the nano or exchange it for the glossy one. My old iPad has the mothca on it and I am currently comparing them. Will wait a view days and draw a bit more and then decide
