Thanks for this video* I love your raw honesty... I have been wanting to do youtube videos for a few years now. I am not tech savvy and was getting bogged down in thinking about editing and stuff...watching youtube video's many said just start! So, finally yesterday I posted my first one...raw, uncut and like you I have no problem just talking and sharing..luckily I have many years of working as a voice coach and it is my technique and I have 2 digital books as well...etc.... I have always followed my dreams and taken chances....I worried about going in front of the camera cause I am older now (after being a singer and a make-up artist ..so I had fear of being seen as older)...finally I said to myself whatever...it's a nice feeling to break the stupid movies we play in our head!.. Best of luck to you!

Hi Ben, your story really resonates with me. I’ve gathered a following on instagram where I make content about architectural design. It’s something I love doing, but I’m struggling to see how to monetize it. You talked about maybe doing some consulting, B2B stuff. I would love to learn more about that. I could sure use some guidance and would love to work something out with you. I have 40k followers and sometime I just feel it’s kind of ridiculous that I haven’t monetized it. Is that the wrong sentiment to have? Anyway, I hope you see this and I wish you the best. Cheers!

Awesome video, thanks for sharing your experience! Nowadays many content creators lack strategy. The upload everything straight away, and then they run out of ideas. This business is about constant uploading, but not too many times per week (and also after I upload something, I use a bit of Famester to make that piece of content instantly viral and popular). It's better to upload like once or twice per week, and it also helps to avoid burnout.

I mean, I am just small content creator and I work really hard (I also use a little bit of Famester, but that is a necessity nowadays). I changed my plans and got over my perfectionism and self doubt to launched my first video yesterday. I kept telling myself I needed to do this or that first and be good at it before I can publish my first video. I switched to accepting being sub par for now as long as I get better with each video. I have considered deleting it at least once an hour since. I decided to view it differently - it got 11 views and 1 like. That means just over 9% of people who viewed it liked it. Sort of negative thoughts get negative results and positive thoughts get positive results.

But...the real gem is that Life is an Edit; as you make videos you hone your own skills: ....organization, public speaking, thinking in an efficient way,...even being quick on your feet when something goes wrong.

Dude that felt really personal. Especially the message at the end to keep trying. Sometimes I wonder if the side hustle I’ve chosen is realistic. I’m pursuing content creation while others try to do businesses etc. And I wonder if I’m being reckless, given that I have a family. Of course I have my full time job but I wonder if I’m doing my kids a disservice when I’m distracted by the content creation. I think what’s their fault that I spend less time with them, because of my personal aspirations of trying to make it as a content creator. That’s where it feels silly to me, and frankly I feel immature and I get total imposter syndrome. But I think what’s important is that I find a balance and not sacrifice time with my kids, and about having a positive mindset. Hopefully it’ll be worth it in the end and one day I’ll be doing what I love and owning my time. Thanks a lot dude for the video.

Beautiful story and absolutely inspiring - not only for content creators, but also for anyone following their dream and starting with the first shaky steps. Your heartfelt, openness is truly a gift. Thank you for that.
First year I started my online business as a side hustle, I made 8 bucks. Obviously counting the expenses, it was more like minus $300 in profits. Second year, $280. Third year, $1,300. 4th year the snowball effect truly rolled in, and I was making $3k+ still part-time to my day job. There are days (many actually) that it's a struggle to keep on believing, but feeling passionate about the content we create makes it easier.

I love how real you are, even showing emotion. I've been on the fence when it comes to creating and dabbled in my own creations in the past (streaming video games, fitness tiktoks/shorts, and some generalized promo videos).. I have an amazing job to learn how to craft my skills (News photographer/editor) and I've been doing that for about a year and a half. My real goal is to find "freedom" as you mentioned while creating. I know it will take a ton of work and long hours (again, as you mentioned), but I thank you for this video.. As such, I'm trying to get into content creation, and this gives me perspective that I may have to go back to tech until I get better at this. I never used social media until last 2 months and don't have depth of knowledge in any of these platforms. I'm trying to focus on TikTok and hoping I can find some good mentors that will help reduce the time to succeed in content creation. Anyhow, thanks for sharing. Very inspirational

Same boat here, about to be laid off of my well-paid tech job.... while I have some experience building my own affiliate sites and moderate social media user. I feel I need a good mentor to shorten my learning curve timeline. Unfortunately, as it stands now, there is nothing out there that can really "prove" these creators are legit. What would make someone feel 100% sure, this creators content is valid...verified assets/funds-In real life?

This is awesome bro! I am a tech entrepreneur & found success there but want to start a YT so bad. It’s the only thing I’ve put off for years.
Proud of you for sticking with it.
What I will say on the making more $$ thing, I made over $2M profit at 26. Only reason I share that is because more money 100% does not bring more happiness. I thought it would and had a massive wake up call at 28 when I felt just completely empty, although I had everything I thought I wanted.
Quickly realized it was never about money itself. It’s the freedom of not worrying about bills, being able to spend time with friends and family whenever, being able to create anything you want, etc…
You can achieve all of these things making $10k-$20k/mo. When you surpass a certain amount, quality of life doesn’t seem to go up and actually declines instead.
If I started from 0 again, my goal would be to achieve $20k/mo consistently, have freedom to create, and live a happy life with the people I love. Any income made beyond that, doesn’t really matter too much.
    Cheers brother.

Thank you for a great video!
This was really fantastic insights and you really gave me some hope!
I have only just started this channel but I really felt like I was exactly were you described before, in a corporate job working my ass off in sales, trying to reach impossible budgets for nothing but more and more stress, higher budget requirements and unhappy middle management.. I have two small daughters that my job didn’t give me much time for (1.5h/day if I was lucky) and I just couldn’t take the stress anymore, I had anxiety on Saturday mornings about going back to work on Monday (also knowing that I probably needed to work most of Sunday as well…)
This all made my body scream with literal heart aches (I’m 35 so it shouldn’t be happening) and I searched for more nature, peace and relaxation.
I hope that one day my creator journey will give so much relaxation to people that I can do it full time and enjoy it to the point of where you are now (I am now “unemployed” and are funding my UA-cam channel from my savings account and have given myself until the end of summer, I hope it will be enough time to at least be able to get monetized on YT…)
Thank you for the inspiration, keep up the good work and congratulations to your hard earned, very well deserved success! 🥳😃👍🏻

I'm 44, thought I'm too old to start UA-cam. Then I took a risk and decided to make a video. I got out my expensive Sony cam and cinema lenses, wrote, shot, produced and edited a long video for two weeks and was drained by the end. I thought it wasn't worth my time and talent to put so much effort in for nothing. Last night, on a whim, I just grabbed my iphone and recorded some thoughts about a movie and you know what? I HAD A BLAST! I stumbled into the joy of it and felt far more comfortable speaking into my phone than my expensive Sony...now I want to make more!
