+kevin ostering Awesome, I'm glad you like the CFL. It's an awesome league and I wish it was shown on tv more. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
During the CFL's struggling era of the early '90's, several American based teams temporarily joined, helping the league stay afloat. Specifically, Baltimore still has a strong, cult following. That really says something considering both the Colts & Ravens storied Championships! The bigger field and 3 down game lend itself to a more wide open game, where special teams can sometimes be more significant than either the offensive or defensive teams. Both the passing & kicking games are a big part of the game. Typically, the majority of the games are decided in the final minutes...buckle up, there'll be some turbulence!!
Wow, I never knew about this variation of football, but I found it quite interesting with this tutorial, thanks for explaining it. I always enjoy learning about other sports and their rules. 👌
Great video!! Good to see that the CFL got a little international exposure. Living in Saskatchewan my whole life of course I'm a huge Rider Fan. Was at Mosaic Stadium to watch the 2013 Grey Cup, and without a doubt was the greatest night of my life!! You should come to Regina and watch a game before Mosaic Stadium is torn down.

The first CFL game I saw live was at Taylor field back in the early 90's. The RoughRiders played against the Argo's when the Rocket Ismail played for them. Man did the Argo's beat the RoughRiders badly. It was also my first and only Buffalo Days celebration.

Another great video Ninh! This year's Grey Cup is being held here in Calgary and we hope that our hometown Stampedets will be there to repeat last years title. I love the CFL and all of the passionate fans that pull for their teams. And yes that includes all you Saskatchewan Roughriders supporters as well.
I found out this video was very useful for me, who never play or watch a football game but try to figure out the rules and go to see a game next. Thank you.
As a rugby league fan in Australia, I've always found myself relating to Canadian football more than the American version. It's mainly due to the lower financial level that leads to things like sponsorship logos on the jerseys and field, the half empty stadiums, the much lower salaries etc. that make it feel like the football I'm used to here with the NRL. That's also why I happen to like the Arena Football League, you follow that at all? The interest for it might not be there, but that might make an interesting comparison video with regular American football...
ThatBrendonGuy That's cool. I understand where you're coming from. At that level - the players are still humble and the money hasn't gotten to their heads yet. Some of the NFL egos annoy me, so I (like you) enjoy the smaller market stuff. And funnily enough, I'm in the midst of making a Rules of Arena Football video, but I'm struggling to find the relevant footage. Be sure to share this video and subscribe so that you can see my new videos as soon as they come out!
Added to everything you said, it's a vastly more entertaining game. More open, faster paced, fewer arbitrary rules -- you can have as many men in motion you want in the backfield, for example.
Thank you so much for your video! I knew nothing about football until now. My dad is taking me to a game for the first time tonight, so at least I feel educated now.
+Steven Cleland Cool, thanks Steven! I'm jealous because I haven't seen an Argonauts game in person for years (though I'm one of those sad people that stays up to watch the games in the UK). I hope you enjoy the game! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Very well done and easy to understand. Most of these rules apply to the American game as well. Some exceptions are the smaller American field, four downs instead of three to make a first down, and the lack of the rouge/single.
Hi Mrchips469 Thanks for stopping by. Funnily enough, you're not the only one that wanted a video on penalties etc. If I get a few more, I will make one. I just have to find the relevant footage (which could take a while) In the meantime, be sure to share this video and subscribe if you haven't already :)
Mrchips469 their basically the same, 2 penalties are diffrent is the first is No yards in CFL, on a punt, a player must be 5 yards away from the guy catching the ball, reason is you can’t call fair catch and a player can get rammed without even having a chance to catch the ball properly, this is a 15 yard penalty and it’s added to the end of the run. The other difference is you can’t kick the ball out of bounds. It has to bounce into the field first. That is a 5 yards penalty, the rest is the same
This really helps me understand football now... I might try out for my town league so knowing the rules will keep me from getting confused :) Thank you for making this video
Very good explanation. Short and to the point. I'm Canadian and still picked up some pointers. Offence and defencive postions with graphics, super. Thanks very much. Well done.
As an American, IMO the Canadian form of gridiron football is underrated. I found out recently that they have an onside punt. If a player is behind (maybe even) with the punter when the ball is punted, the ball is live for that player. Then I remember a tied game and a team was kicking a field goal with seconds left in the game. The kicker missed going into the endzone. The player who caught the ball immediately punted it out to avoid giving up a single giving the other team the win. But the player on the field goal kicking team punted it back. Then the ball was loose and the kicking team recovered and won. So, in one play, there was one kick and two punts.
@@NinhLyUK That sounds right. I couldn't remember the teams and was too lazy to look it up. There was another right before half time. With seconds left, a team was kicking off right after scoring and decided to kick it short. A player on the receiving team immediately punted it into the kicking teams endzone scoring a point.
Jack Simon It's a great sport to watch. The play is far more wide-open than the NFL and I prefer CFL to NFL (though I do like the NFL). Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
American here now living in Europe, but I've always preferred CFL. You have only 3 downs to get your 10 yards so it's more wide open. You have 12 players so it's more wide open. You let more motion before the snap so it's more wide open. It's longer and wider so it's more wide open. The end zones are deeper and you have to do things with the ball or you get points scored on you or you score points, so it's more wide open. But the biggest reason I like CFL is that it's ...rats, it was on the tip of my tongue. I'll try to think of why I prefer it.
Let's also not forget that the CDN Football feild is much wider and therefore more difficult to manage with extra yardage outside of the hash marks, as opposed to a US field, has a 20 Yard fully playable endzone, an extra 10 Yards at mid field and requires a far deeper amount of player stamina.
Luke Galioto Yeah, Canadian Football rocks! I find that games are more wide-open in the CFL than they are in the NFL. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
@@coordinator3039 20 or so years ago the CFL expanded to the USA and we even had a team here in Las Vegas (the Las Vegas Posse) which sadly folded after only 2 seasons.
Thanks for this! I’m an American football fan and decided that I might want to take a look at the CFL to expand my horizons. Maybe I’ll take a look at Australian football too.
A good explanation of the CFL and the basics. I did notice one mistake though. There can be ties in CFL football. The teams only get a max of two tries each to break the tie i extra time. After two tries it is a tie game.
Hi Cory, thanks for the comment! Yeah, admittedly I got that wrong - someone else pointed that out to me. I'll try and add a note to amend the error. Thanks for watching and if you could share this video, that would be much appreciated. Cheers!
+CFLfan#31 Yeah, I realise that. But any changes I make to the video - I'd need to delete the video and start over again. Which I'm not prepared to do for such a minor rule change. Thanks for the info, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Excellent work! Though I only found one error and it's simply a positioning error on Defense. There are only 3 Linebackers, not 4. Defensive Halfbacks are different from Safetys, as Defensive Halfbacks do cover Slotbacks, while the Safety is an independent cover-man, who is meant to be the last line of coverage, and help is fellow DB's when needed, or be used in a "Safety Blitz". I just felt the need to point that out.
Great video. Typically a defense will have a position called a Free Safety on the field which is another defensive back, who typically defends against the pass. The number is defensive linesmen and linebackers will usually total 7 ... sometimes 4 defensive linemen and 3 linebackers .. and sometimes 3 defensive linemen and 4 linebackers, depending on the strategy used by the defense. Since there are 12 players on the field at one time in Canadian football, this leaves 5 players to defend against the pass, made up of 2 cornerbacks, 2 defensive halfbacks and one free safety. The Canadian games is similar to American football, with some distinct rule differences and is very exciting to watch.
Hello Ninh, first of all I love your videos, your explanation of sports rules are spot on. I was wondering if you can make a rules of bowling video at some point just because ive tried to explain to my girlfriend the rules and she still doesnt get it but she watches your videos too so if you could do that that would be great. Thanks and Oskee Wee Wee Go Ti-Cats!
You're one of the few that thinks the same as me then! I think the CFL is a wide open, more exciting game - although I do like the NFL too, and have been watching it copiously. Thanks for the comment, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ninh Ly It’s because people see the CFL as a league for players who couldn’t make the NFL and the only rule they know is 3 downs so they already hate it. CFL is more a passing game and NFL is more of a running game
TheBenjaminks I do like both but I prefer CFL because they have QB’s have protection. I agree they should get a bit more protection but it’s ridiculous how much they have in NFL, if a QB runs and sees he’s about to get tackled, he can slide and if he slightly gets touched, he gets an additional 15 yards to that run, that’s so stupid, if QB decides to run, he should have same protection as any other player on the field, at this point if they keep adding rules you won’t even be allowed to tackle the QB, NFL in my opinion is becoming like flag football. Also in NFL, kicks are rarely returned, what’s the point of kicks then if they won’t be returned, especially kick offs, both teams are basically ok with starting at the 25 yard line, just start there then instead of waisting time🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️. I also find NFL overtime dumb, both teams should get a chance with the ball regardless of what the first team does
Fantastic tutorial of Canadian football. Alas, I will never understand the rouge. It’s like laying up in golf. No rewards for taking the easy way out. It’s just the way it should be. And although he currently walks amongst the angels, I’d wager that Saint Robert of Probert would agree with my sentiments.
Hi Owen. Thanks very much for the comments. Yes, it's extremely different, but it's a lot of fun to watch. If you get a chance to watch a CFL game, I highly recommend them!
Excellent video to explain the Rules of Canadian Football. Time for an update. The convert or point after is placed on the 32 yard line instead of the 12. If the kick is good it counts for one point. A team can also try for a two point concersion. The ball remains placed on the 2 yard line. I would also add a couple of other nuisances, the punt team is required to give the punt returner 5 yds or it is a penalty (called a no yards penalty), the penalty is either 5 yds for unintentional no yards, or 15 yards for intentional. The Defence must be a yard "off the ball" at the beginning of each play. On Offense there is unlimited motion allowed before the snap of the ball in ANY direction.
Thanks man just started watching the cfl I will continue to watch it and my favorite team is Toronto well because that's the only place in Canada I've been lol

good job, I like the Video. I would have added two things. First is the No Yards Penalty as there is no fair catch in the CFL, and the Three Min Warning at the end of each half. Otherwise well done.
Hey Mark. Yes, I did mention the 3 minute warning in my other video: The Differences between American and Canadian Football. As for 'no yards', I also did mention that there is no fair catch rule in Canadian Football, but I suppose you would have to watch both videos to find out. Thanks for the comment, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ninh Ly might wanna add the wild endings like. 1. Any player can kick the ball, it's called a quick kick. Its rare but possible. Unsarally a team on the other side of the field that needs a winning TD has a go. 2. No Yards not Fair Catch. 3. If the game winning fg is missed, it's still a live ball and can be kicked out of the endzone unsarally out of bounds of so, then kicked back into the endzone and can be legal recovered for a TD or Rouge. Point is the ball is always live compaired to US rules.
Mathew Clemence I'm guessing you watched the wild ending of the Montreal Allouettes & Toronto Argonauts game (which was a complete farce)? Can't add anything to any video unfortunately. Once it's up, it's up and cannot be edited. Having said that, apart from the 'no yards rule' I wouldn't even put the other two in because like I've said to countless UA-cam viewers - it's a basic video for complete beginners. I don't want to confuse rookies with complex rules that barely happen. Thanks anyway.
Ninh Ly mate I've been a Canadian Football fan snice 2003. Beats the American version imho esp the NFL trolls. It was crazy yes but within the rules and it was bloody aussome ;)

Great explanation for someone who hadn't heard the rules of canadian league football dude! I would have said something about the stopping and starting of the clock/plays, this seems to confuse those with a rugby background who watch American/canadian football. Also, with the single point/rouge, I would have emphasized it has everything to with the opposing end zone, it became a tad confusing...but overall great video and thank you!
Hey rmikC Thanks for the kind comments. Yeah, I tried to keep it simple and not mention clock stoppages and penalties, so that a complete beginner can grasp the game. I’ve always been a fan of AF but lately the CFL has sparked my interest. But being poor I can’t afford any sports packages and the only CFL game I know of that’s broadcasted down here is the Grey Cup.
Note that in Canadian football the offense may have all of their backs in motion prior to the ball being snapped (put in play) while in American football only one back may be in motion. In both games the linemen must not be in motion. (That is, remain set.)

Thanks Paul. Much appreciated. I actually prefer the CFL to the NFL (go Argos!), it's a shame it's not more popular than it is. Check out my channel for more like this :)
They do have ties but they are rare. Overtime is played similar to NCAA rules, each team gets 1 possession except they start at the 35 yard line, (College is 25) and you must go for 2 after a Touchdown. If no winner after 2 overtimes, the game is a tie In Canadian football, you can also recover fumbles (and onside kicks) by knocking the ball out of bounds. It goes to whoever touched it last, Where as in American football, balls that go out of bounds go to the offense. Onside kicks work the same way.
cdl rules say "last team to touch the ball retains posession" nfl rules say; "last team to possess the ball gets it" - makes for very interesting kick off

Ninh Ly I agree, but NFL is for Monsters, that learned How to play since Very Very Young. We, Brazilians for example that discovered the Sport recently, There is no way to disput with those guys.
I don't think QB is most important position the Offensive line positions are most important because without them the Quarterback couldn't get the ball off in time.
Dezmaize Soulist they both are equally important. There's no real position that's better than the other. Like if there are no lineman, quarterback would be killed but no qb, there would no plays made
Thanks for the primer of the unique rules that is Canadian football! Waaaay better than American football, but that's just my opinion. Bravo, Canadian Football!

the twitterverse was quite happy as there is an increasing audience for canadian football in the united states specifically. keep it up though bud. great stuff
It's the No Yards rule which is uniquely Canadian. For those of you who don't know, when the ball is kicked, only the kicker, his teammates behind him and players on the other team can touch it. Everyone else on the kicking team must stay five yards away until it is touched by a legal player.
Hi steve stefka Thanks for the comments! Yes, this game shows one of the few that they won last season. Hopefully, they'll get back to Grey Cup winning form and not throwing away perfectly winnable games like they did last year. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Question about the rouge from an american football fan. So a rouge is scored, 1. on a missed field goal that still goes out the back of the end zone 2.on a punt that goes out the back of the end zone 3. on a punt that is downed in the end zone am I correct?
Those goal post in the front will be a great source for comedy like this. Player: I'm running hey throw it (not looking in front of himself) BAM!!! Game for him ended
An update is needed on this: as of Aug 2017, the CFL Commisioners made another rule change, which almost happens just about every year... the rule change was that a CFL team only gets 1 Challenge/Timeout in a game now instead of the previous 2, unfortunately.

Wow, I never knew about this variation of football, but I found it quite interesting with this tutorial, thanks for explaining it. I always enjoy learning about other sports and their rules. 👌
+Juan Sol Badguy Thanks Juan, I appreciate the comments. Be sure to check out my other sports videos and share this video and subscribe :)
Great video!! Good to see that the CFL got a little international exposure. Living in Saskatchewan my whole life of course I'm a huge Rider Fan. Was at Mosaic Stadium to watch the 2013 Grey Cup, and without a doubt was the greatest night of my life!! You should come to Regina and watch a game before Mosaic Stadium is torn down.
dave spad You know what Dave? I'd love to do that" I've only ever been to two CFL stadiums and I'd very much like to take in an Riders vs Argos game at Mosaic. Who knows? Maybe I'll be crossing Saskatchewan during my future travels one day ... Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
The first CFL game I saw live was at Taylor field back in the early 90's. The RoughRiders played against the Argo's when the Rocket Ismail played for them. Man did the Argo's beat the RoughRiders badly. It was also my first and only Buffalo Days celebration.
Love the fact that you used a Saskatchewan Roughrider game as an example! GO RIDERS!!!!
Thanks for the comment. Go Argos!
Except the riders took a fat L in that game being showed 😂
Thats not a shocker lol@@creedencebakken4148
Thank you for this video. I just started to watch CFL and was wondering about the scoring. Now it makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you again.
Bobbi Gavin You're welcome Bobbi, I'm glad this video helped you understand the scoring of Canadian Football. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
I have recently grown to love the CFL such a great quality of football
Going to my first CFL game today. Thank you for this.

Ninh Ly do you watch the cfl and what team do you like
I wish they'd show the CFL here in Australia. It'd make a nice change to watch some games.
+Marc Davey Same here for the UK. Although I get around that problem by streaming CFL games online! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
AntoG1986 Huh, they're showing it on ESPN2 here. Nice!
Absolutely! I'd love to make a Grey Cup one day, but I'll just have to keep watching my Argos from across the ocean.
Go Stamps!
I found out this video was very useful for me, who never play or watch a football game but try to figure out the rules and go to see a game next. Thank you.
Thank you David! If you need any more help, feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks Christine, I'm glad you found this useful.
Hope you enjoy the game tonight!

Thanks for the video. I won some tickets to see the argos tonight and knew nothing about the CFL. Now Im a little more prepared for the game.
+Steven Cleland Cool, thanks Steven! I'm jealous because I haven't seen an Argonauts game in person for years (though I'm one of those sad people that stays up to watch the games in the UK). I hope you enjoy the game!

Very well done and easy to understand. Most of these rules apply to the American game as well. Some exceptions are the smaller American field, four downs instead of three to make a first down, and the lack of the rouge/single.
Thanks Tom. I actually made a separate video on American Football

Thank you for the information we live in Chicago and are panning a trip north to watch a game.
+William Schweitzer I think you'll love the CFL - very wide open game! Enjoy it when you go and watch it! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
I will thank you!
Can you make a video with all the penalties of American and Canadian football
Hi Mrchips469
Thanks for stopping by.
Funnily enough, you're not the only one that wanted a video on penalties etc.
If I get a few more, I will make one. I just have to find the relevant footage (which could take a while)
In the meantime, be sure to share this video and subscribe if you haven't already :)
do it
do it
Mrchips469 their basically the same, 2 penalties are diffrent is the first is No yards in CFL, on a punt, a player must be 5 yards away from the guy catching the ball, reason is you can’t call fair catch and a player can get rammed without even having a chance to catch the ball properly, this is a 15 yard penalty and it’s added to the end of the run. The other difference is you can’t kick the ball out of bounds. It has to bounce into the field first. That is a 5 yards penalty, the rest is the same
This video was fantastic. Very well done. Excellent way to introduce newbies to the Canadian game.
+brunoxrs Thanks man, I appreciate the kind comments on this video about the Rules of Canadian Football. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
If I cannot get into the NFL, I will be trying to get into the CFL. As I don't really know CFL rules, this helped a lot. Thanks man!

turntsnaco X welcome to the CFL
Calgary Stampeders now
Stampeders are the best! (Well not actually, but good choice)
turntsnaco X start watching cfl . They're coming to Los Angeles
turntsnaco X so I'm assuming you switched to the CFL? I also was a chargers fan. Live in San Marcos. You?
This really helps me understand football now... I might try out for my town league so knowing the rules will keep me from getting confused :) Thank you for making this video

Thanks for the great video. I'm taking my sister to her first CFL game this weekend so this video is the perfect thing for it.
Awesome, glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful for your sister! CFL is awesome ... except for last night's BC vs Toronto game, that sucked.
Nicely explained. Can't wait for the cfl season to begin again.
Brilliant job! The CFL is unique and a very fast game compared to its American counterpart.
Very good explanation. Short and to the point. I'm Canadian and still picked up some pointers. Offence and defencive postions with graphics, super. Thanks very much. Well done.
Ah I appreciate that Greg, thanks for the kind comments!

Ninh Ly are you going to make more videos cuz your last one was a year ago
As an American, IMO the Canadian form of gridiron football is underrated. I found out recently that they have an onside punt. If a player is behind (maybe even) with the punter when the ball is punted, the ball is live for that player. Then I remember a tied game and a team was kicking a field goal with seconds left in the game.
The kicker missed going into the endzone. The player who caught the ball immediately punted it out to avoid giving up a single giving the other team the win. But the player on the field goal kicking team punted it back. Then the ball was loose and the kicking team recovered and won. So, in one play, there was one kick and two punts.
That would be the Argonauts vs Alouettes game. Toronto lost badly on that play.
And I agree - Canadian Football is great.
I was surprised by how different CFL rules are from NFL rules. Great video.
Cool, thanks man.

I always learn something new watching the CFL!!!
Thanks for the comments Bart, some really good points there. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
The uprights are both 110 yds apart
This is an excellent primer for someone (like me) who wants to know the basic rules of football. Thank you! :)

Thanks for making this !!!! Wonderfully put together, and very helpful!
Great video. Great summary, clear and to the point.
Thanks Rod, much appreciated!
Watching the grey cup right now, thanks for the clarifications
I come from America and I like Canadian football
Luke Galioto Yeah, Canadian Football rocks! I find that games are more wide-open in the CFL than they are in the NFL.
Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Coordinator they use to have teams in America in 1994 but it only lasted a 1 year. One of the American team even won the grey cup
Canada is technically America too ya know 😁
@@coordinator3039 20 or so years ago the CFL expanded to the USA and we even had a team here in Las Vegas (the Las Vegas Posse) which sadly folded after only 2 seasons.
Thanks for this! I’m an American football fan and decided that I might want to take a look at the CFL to expand my horizons. Maybe I’ll take a look at Australian football too.
That was very helpful, just want I needed before I go to my first game this afternoon!
If you went to the Argonauts game - what a game that was! Watched the whole thing from England. Glad this video helped!
Well done. It's a very good crash course.
Cheers!
Great video, new rule change teams have 2 time-outs per game but both can't be used in the final 3 minutes of the game.
+CFLfan#31 Yeah, I realise that. But any changes I make to the video - I'd need to delete the video and start over again. Which I'm not prepared to do for such a minor rule change. Thanks for the info, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Great video - I needed clarification on some of the rules and this really helped. Thanks!
Any time Lynn, glad this video helped!
Well done. Easy to follow, clear explanation
Thank you, now I can use your video to help me to explain CFL rules to my friends!!!!
Cool, thanks Rogerio - glad this video helps. Check out my channel for more videos like this.
Thanks for sharing ... from A Canadian that Will now enjoy Canadian football!!!
Thanks Jean Pierre, I'm glad you approve. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
***** Thanks for pointing that out. Be sure to share and subscribe :)
Ninh Ly actually they switch between 3 and 4 linebacker formation all the time.
Some defenses us 3-4, 4-3 or even 4-4
hmm I have both seen 3/4 defenses and4/3 defenses and some CFL teams have used a 3/4 in their history's especially the old Ottawa RR's ....nothing new
great job going over the rules of the CFL. Also, love Kong's tekken 3 theme
Yeah, King's theme from Tekken is badass!
And I love the CFL - shame not many people watch it.
Cfl is way better then the nfl just my opinion more exciting
You're one of the few that thinks the same as me then!
I think the CFL is a wide open, more exciting game - although I do like the NFL too, and have been watching it copiously.
Thanks for the comment, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
@@NinhLyUK yea that whatta been sayin too bro
one love
Bless up to Bob 🙂👍
Ninh Ly It’s because people see the CFL as a league for players who couldn’t make the NFL and the only rule they know is 3 downs so they already hate it. CFL is more a passing game and NFL is more of a running game
Chris Begetis well i found both leagues exiciting.
Good job explaining the rules.
Thanks Dude, much appreciated!
The play shown at 3:50 is a rouge/single and not a safety. Also there are some ties in the CFL regular season, they just don't happen that often.
Thank you and I'm from America so I new most of the rules but Canadian football is so different
Some of these points were addressed in my other video on Canadian Football.
Thanks man just started watching the cfl I will continue to watch it and my favorite team is Toronto well because that's the only place in Canada I've been lol
You can't go wrong with the Argonauts! And yeah, CFL rules!
Tiger Cats are the best :)
Thanks for making a great video! been a big fan of the CFL for a while now, but yeah can also easily watch college football and the NFL, but overall just prefer the CFL. Go REDBLACKS!

good job, I like the Video.
Ninh Ly ok no worries.
And if you want the POV of a fan who watched and love to change a few things, you can ask me amung the few ;)
Matthew Clemence aka Kanga-Kucha on Facebook, Twitter etc G+ too but I might be getting off because the nods is a problem.
Cheers!
Mathew Clemence Cool, will do.
Hey rmikC
Thanks for the kind comments.
Yeah, I tried to keep it simple and not mention clock stoppages and penalties, so that a complete beginner can grasp the game. A lot of people have asked me to do a follow up video explaining these, so I'm in the midst of doing that.
Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
I have watched both leagues for years, I like the CFL game better, More exciting! I wish the CFL Had at least 12 teams.
Very well done video. Only one problem to much Argos. Footage being a tiger cats fan from down the road in hamilton Oskee wee wee
Hi Andrew.

I’ve always been a fan of AF but lately the CFL has sparked my interest. But being poor I can’t afford any sports packages and the only CFL game I know of that’s broadcasted down here is the Grey Cup.
I believe games are on ESPN, you just have to look for them.
Failing that, streaming from the internet is free.
Ninh Ly Alright Cool. When the season rolls around I’ll be sure to check it out
Ninh Ly Also where on the net is it free?
Wow , thank you so muc , really a video , who with lot of knowledge , Please make more like for cricket , golf , pool , tennis, ice hockey ,
Might want to check out my videos for the rest of those.
Thank you for the easiest description.
Note that in Canadian football the offense may have all of their backs in motion prior to the ball being snapped (put in play) while in American football only one back may be in motion. In both games the linemen must not be in motion. (That is, remain set.)
+William Phinizy This is explained in my video: The Differences between American and Canadian Football. Be sure to have a look at that one. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Thx for making this video. As an ardent fan of my home country's version of football (and unfortunately it's slowly diminishing interest among Cdns, especially young Cdns), it's Great to see it get some well deserved attention, Howe er it comes. Thx again. And well done!
If no winner after 2 overtimes, the game is a tie
In Canadian football, you can also recover fumbles (and onside kicks) by knocking the ball out of bounds. It goes to whoever touched it last, Where as in American football, balls that go out of bounds go to the offense. Onside kicks work the same way.
cdl rules say "last team to touch the ball retains posession" nfl rules say; "last team to possess the ball gets it" - makes for very interesting kick off
Thank you, i got invited to the grey cup and i don't follow sports. I feel like i will be able to follow now!!
Hi Kyle.
Thank you for the kind comments on my video! I hope you found this video useful?
Oh man, you got tickets to the Grey Cup! I'd love to see a Grey Cup game sometime in my life (preferably when the Argonauts are playing in it). But Calgary vs Hamilton should be a good one, I really do hope you enjoy the game.

Ninh Ly Very useful video, liked + subscribed. The grey cup should be a very memorable experience.
I play Football in Brazil, but with the rules from US College. I enjoyed very much watching the CFL and i guess i would play good too. It's a good thing that CFL is more acessfull then NFL, right?
NFL is more successful than CFL, but I actually prefer CFL more. Thanks for your comments Luiz! :)
Ninh Ly I agree, but NFL is for Monsters, that learned How to play since Very Very Young. We, Brazilians for example that discovered the Sport recently, There is no way to disput with those guys.
Maybe in time, but it's tough for a non American to break into the NFL without supreme talent.
Very good explanation
Thanks man, much appreciated!
the break in the grey cup is almost 40 minutes due to the halftime show. normal games are 14 minutes between each half.
Yes.
Going to a Lions vs Stampeders game and it’s gonna be sick
I don't think QB is most important position the Offensive line positions are most important because without them the Quarterback couldn't get the ball off in time.
Apple Dash but the quarter back scores the points controls the momentum of the game and is the way you win(usually
Dezmaize Soulist they both are equally important. There's no real position that's better than the other. Like if there are no lineman, quarterback would be killed but no qb, there would no plays made
The centre is the most important position homie. A game winning play cant start without a game winning snap.
A Saskatchewan fans told me a qb which don't learn playbook is useless. Montreal's Johnny Manziel is the best example.
Thanks for the primer of the unique rules that is Canadian football! Waaaay better than American football, but that's just my opinion.
Bravo, Canadian Football!

To me, Canadian players are just as talented as the Ameriican players in the NFL. Canadian football's more fun to watch & is more exciting than American football, IMHO. :-)
I agree
hey bud great vid. for these canadian football rules, you should explain the onside punt, which is unique to Canadian football. :)

the twitterverse was quite happy as there is an increasing audience for canadian football in the united states specifically. keep it up though bud. great stuff
It's the No Yards rule which is uniquely Canadian. For those of you who don't know, when the ball is kicked, only the kicker, his teammates behind him and players on the other team can touch it. Everyone else on the kicking team must stay five yards away until it is touched by a legal player.
great informative video. The Argonauts need to watch this, maybe they will make the playoffs this season. haha. bravo.
Hi steve stefka
Thanks for the comments! Yes, this game shows one of the few that they won last season. Hopefully, they'll get back to Grey Cup winning form and not throwing away perfectly winnable games like they did last year.

Question about the rouge from an american football fan. So a rouge is scored,
1. on a missed field goal that still goes out the back of the end zone
2.on a punt that goes out the back of the end zone
3. on a punt that is downed in the end zone
am I correct?
Yes, that's right.

+Mrchips469 Sometimes that happens, although rarely!
An update is needed on this: as of Aug 2017, the CFL Commisioners made another rule change, which almost happens just about every year... the rule change was that a CFL team only gets 1 Challenge/Timeout in a game now instead of the previous 2, unfortunately.
