They taught us this sport in PE a few months back and all I can say is that it is one of the funnest sports I've ever played! This Rules video is also very helpful. Thank You!
Yeah it looks like a sport that would be played in PE. I never played it back in my high school days though. (14-16 years ago lol) But I imagine it would have been fun.
It's popular over here in Europe, particularly in mainland Europe, not so much here in the UK. It's certainly worth a try and I've been reliably informed that it's harder than it looks.
+Ninh Ly Thanks, this helped me out. Until 2 days ago, I'm one of those Muricans who's never even heard of or seen handball played. It looks like a fun sport.
+Ninh Ly I played handball back in Sweden. Great sport! Happy to find this video on UA-cam. I wish it had more views, that way maybe i would have someone to play with here in Arizona.
Great explanation. My grandson has recently taken this sport up and is playing for a club at the weekends. It is important for a proactive Grandpa to be one step ahead.
Completely unknown in the U.S., not even broadcast from the Olympics except on pay-T.V. Thank you for bringing me up to speed, I am very interested in seeing a televised match some time!
Handball is quite a fun sport - but it’s mostly popular in European countries like Denmark, Germany, France, Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Hungary and African countries like Tunisia, DR Congo, Cape Verde and Angola. It’s not popular in America or Oceania, but it’s gaining immense popularity all over the world 👍 I just hope one day it becomes one of the biggest sport in the world 😊
@@freedomprice9173Lmao. Second largest sport after football is cricket. American sports are concentrated in US mostly and while basketball and Baseball have grown, they're nowhere near cricket.
The turnover counterattacks (fastbreaks) are also a very essential part of the game, that should be mentioned. Unlike in soccer, it is permitted to make long passes to a lone attacker at the opposing end of the court, which is part of what makes handball such a swift and highscoring game. If you fumble in the attack, there's a high risk of conseding a goal in a matter of seconds...
Sadly, I can't explain every rule in a 4 minute video. Besides, whilst counterattacking is part of the game, it's not necessarily a rule. Thanks for the info.
Ninh Ly My intention was just to contribute. It wasn't a critique of your video... I know, it's about the rules, and you've got those fully covered. I just felt like mentioning it, because I love the game, and the fastbreaks are so integral.
I find it too easy to score for my liking. That is because the ball is small relative to the size of the goal, and the size of the court, the small size of the ball, makes it also difficult for defenders to block and get in the way of shots, unlike football. Then, also why the limitations on the number of movements a player can have in possession? Is that to ensure that turnovers will be more likely and to prevent ball hu hogging? Does handball have a shot clock? Larger ball, shot clock, no limitations on number of movements of player can have with the ball, while dribbling it basketball style will make it much harder to score. The goal keeper will be padded to bear the brunt of blocking the shots from a much larger ball....
+Alan Miller You're welcome Alan, I'm glad you found this Handball Rules video helpful! I hope you check out some of my other videos, but in the meantime, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
There was a Handball tournament in my city and I didn't knew the rules so I came here. Trust me, handball is absolutely more fun to watch than both football and basketball.
@megatt aliff yeah, that's really sad. such a great sport like handball is so underrated. Btw, You can buy handball size 3 if you are a boy or buy handball size 2 if you are a girl.
I was able to see a lot of popular Olympic events in Atlanta in '96. Basketball, swimming, track and field...but handball was by far the most spectacular, the most fun, and the event with the most passionate crowds.
Fantastic intro, used it on our netball page as we are going to play handball for a change to improve our fitness pre season, thank you so much - Australia
This was actually a very good overview of the game. I'm playing it in P.E. for our next unit, and our teacher linked us this video for reference. Thank you for making this!
Really appreciate the video production quality and clear explanation. Needed a visual for teaching this in my physical and health education class and this is perfect!
Hi Richard. Thanks for the kind comments on this video. Yes, be sure to share this video with your phys-ed class (e-mail them the links if you have to). Check out some of my other sports tutorial videos and subscribe - you might find some of those useful too :)
I had the great fortune to be on a aprenticeship in Denmark at the beginning of this year, which happen to fall so this year's World Championship was starting shortly after I arrived in Denmark. It's honestly unreal how much public attention the sport gets in Denmark and it honestly fascinated me from day one. Now I actually been thinking about joining the Handball division of the sports club I am part of, just to see if I enjoy playing just as much as watching the game
Yeah Handball is pretty cool. And it's mostly European countries that are good at this sport, so Germany is a good team to back. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
This is a PERFECT “intro” to the game. I loved the sport since I first caught it by accident during the 1972 Munich Games when ABC (the American TV network broadcasting those games) had nothing else to show and beamed back something nobody in our country had ever seen. I only get the chance to see any games during the Olympics and, over the years, I finally get to see more than minimal coverage during the Games. Now, with streaming, I can actually watch the tournament. I do find myself wishing that this had caught on in schools (it seems a perfect school gymnasium sport) when I was young. Unfortunately, I’m 58 and I’ll not be playing a game in my lifetime.
Thank you for the help!! Im playing handball in my school and our PTC sir told us to watch a video on how to play handball and this really helped!! Wish me luck tommorow is my match!!
My gym teacher used this video to help us on a test. I hate gym, and tests. I've been procrastinating on this for about a month, so.. thank. Edit: I forgot to say I actually got a really good score, :3
I've never heard of this game. Until I saw it in the Olympics this year. I haven't watched the Olympics in a really long time I'm glad to see more sports being added
Thanks Ninh. I've been watching for a few years, mainly because my son plays (just played GB U18 squad), but I guess I ought to get the basics under my belt by now lol.
Thank you for posting this video. I will use it on the first day of my handball unit in PE to give students an idea of what the game is all about and hopefully get them excited to learn!

Played this in gym back in HS it was fun. In gym though the goalie was a person sitting in a chair who had to catch the ball without getting up. So it was way more difficult.
Hi Tanisha Johnson Wow, really? The goalies have a hard enough time anyway without having to sit on a chair. Man, that must have been hard! Thanks for commenting on this video - be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Very relevant game in Spain, I'd say about the third or fourth team sport in terms of popularity and registered players. We used to have the best league in the world, the ASOBAL, but the last financial crisis that hit the country hurt it so bad that it has gone from being a fully professional league to being a mostly semi-pro or even amateur in some cases. But still, Spain has won the World Cup twice as well as the European Championships. I hope it can find some better foundations financially speaking, because the interest is still there and we still produce a lot of talent.
I live in Canada and we play handball and I even represented my province but now im 13 and there is no handball here for people my age and it's my favourite sport but I can't play it so that is quite unfortunate but this was a great vid and it will keep me motivated to find a way to play handball again
Thanks for stopping by. It's a shame that Handball isn't played as much in Canada - but maybe that's a good thing. Maybe you could create your own club and not only play but teach too. You could be the forerunner of professional Handball in Canada?!
There is a national team and in other provinces they play at quite a high level but where I live it's not as popular cuz there's not enough people interested but it would be great to find a few people interested, thx for the motivation

I play hanball myself and I am a referee aswell and I love it! :D If you just look at this video and have no knowledge in handball it might seem complex and some people even said to me that "This looks so hard to keep track of, it must be hard for you" (both as a player and a ref) but thats not true when you get the hang of it its a piece of cake
super informative! i'd never heard of handball until i started watching the summer olympic games as an adult, this video is exactly what i came to youtube to find!
Interesting explaination of how handball works, although there are a few things that are not quite right. For example not every foul leads to a progressive punishment, only dangerous fouls or fouls where the defending player has no chance of obtaining possession of the ball are punished. But except that, great video!
I played this during my years in middle school my team which was all of my friends we were the best in that school we had a tournament they picked the best team from each gym period and my team went undefeated it was very competitive but it was fun Im trying to go pro got any tips?
Jesus Duran I'm currently in the south east England academy for handball, join a local team, preferably one that's in a national league and just keep going from there. I aim to turn pro too :)
I have a tryout today monday March 9 2020 and I’ve been watching this vedio and practice. It’s really good and helpful, compared to experience I had. I usually play soccer and basketball. So I hope this gets easy for me today. And Thand you very much for making these vedios.🙏
France's Nikola Karabatic has been one of the best in the past decade, Denmark's Mikkel Hansen etc...Probably Google EHF champions league, the best European clubs compete for the title...
I remember being introduced to this game in 1976 in PE a few months prior to the Summer Olympics in Montreal. We were informed at that time it was European Handball. It's a simple sport to play and quite fun as well. Unsure as to why it never really took off in North America though. Thanks again Ninh from John in Calgary. Hey..Where can I get one of those Iceland jerseys?
Thanks John. I think Handball didn't take off as there are more established sports in the US already. eBay is your best bet for jerseys. Failing that - contact them directly?
I remember visiting Germany back in 2002 and I saw a few handball matches on TV. It's an interesting sport. Too bad it's not big in the US. This video was very informative. Thanks!
NeoTurboManiac 78 You're welcome, I'm glad you found this video informative!Yes, Handball is very popular in Eastern Europe, not so much here in the UK. But it's gaining popularity in the US particularly where females are concerned. I think they're starting to teach Handball in Phys Ed classes? Thanks for the comment, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
One of the best sports in the world. Great explanations to the rules. However, regarding the goal crease: A player can score in the goal crease, if he/she jumps into it and scores without touching the floor first.
In pe where doin it with smaller goals and take 3 steps and pass it and make it in the goal no gks. Im actually good at it like the other weird sports were playing these r really fun if every body trys
This was very helpful thank you because my gym teacher told us to watch this for homework since the frist week of the month and I have been looking forever until I goggle it and watch yours so thank you so much 😊 And can substitutions be made ?
They taught us this sport in PE a few months back and all I can say is that it is one of the funnest sports I've ever played! This Rules video is also very helpful. Thank You!

It's the same in the UK. Complete absence in the Olympic live broadcast or highlights on the BBC.
Rumor has it, that USA Handball is trying to form a domestic league.
Part of my PE credit in HS. I was good at it in 1980. Just here for a refresher course.

Will never happen with football and several other sports out there.
I legit thought of it as the third most popular sport in the world behind football ⚽ and basketball I didn't know it was that unknown
It is played in south america too,
Yh i hope that too. Like its getting pretty annoying to hear everywhere i go about football or basketball.

Bruh, why is this not in America?? I feel like I've been robbed
It is.
It's being taught in schools over there and they have a governing body (USA Team Handball) and pro leagues and everything.

For example not every foul leads to a progressive punishment, only dangerous fouls or fouls where the defending player has no chance of obtaining possession of the ball are punished. But except that, great video!
Thanks man.
very good explanation!!! I am going to a handball game tonight and this helped a lot.
I played this during my
years in middle school my team which was all of my friends we were the best in that school we had a tournament they picked the best team from each gym period and my team went undefeated it was very competitive but it was fun Im trying to go pro got any tips?
Just keep trying man!
Jesus Duran I'm currently in the south east England academy for handball, join a local team, preferably one that's in a national league and just keep going from there. I aim to turn pro too :)

Yes, I truly believe in thoroughly studying different sport techniques so one can achieve or be one with the sport.
I have a tryout today monday March 9 2020 and I’ve been watching this vedio and practice. It’s really good and helpful, compared to experience I had. I usually play soccer and basketball. So I hope this gets easy for me today. And Thand you very much for making these vedios.🙏
Thanks Eric, glad this video helps.
Good luck in tryouts!
Thanks!!
I had no idea how to play handball, video cleared it up. Just wanted to know, who is the world's best handball player?
France's Nikola Karabatic has been one of the best in the past decade, Denmark's Mikkel Hansen etc...Probably Google EHF champions league, the best European clubs compete for the title...
Dan Nikitovic Thank you!
Thanks for the comments, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Mikkel Hansen perhaps? Anyway, you can see him for yourself in tomorrow's Olympic final

Was looking for the rules of this sport and this video clearly explains them.
Anytime Crystal! Glad this video helps!
I practice waterpolo and this seems very similar, I like it
Awesome channel. As a new PE teacher, this is gold! Thank you!
I have got a competition comming up.This has been really helpful!!!
Cool, thanks for the comment. Good luck!
Handball originates from my city! Im so proud ☺️

A player can score from above the goal crease.
Thank you for this explanation. I find it really helpful. Please do continue making these amazing quality content.
Anytime, i'll certainly try and continue to make stuff like this!

In pe where doin it with smaller goals and take 3 steps and pass it and make it in the goal no gks. Im actually good at it like the other weird sports were playing these r really fun if every body trys
Well, I suppose PE classes make the rules easier. But it's no fun if you don't have goalies and don't play by the full rules.
Ninh Ly yes i hate that it gets easy in pe

Can substitutions be made on the fly?
Yes, the player being substituted must come off first and the substitute player must cross the substitution line after.
Ninh Ly ok, thanks
