This is brilliant. If the internet is about connecting people, then Rives is taking that concept to the ultimate level in this poem. What he says about seeing the name of a person that's passed away in your inbox is touching.
This is a remarkable day in my life, reach out to the first video of ted talk, say hi to 2018. Today is SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1ST 2018 Thanks, Ted, for over 12 years you have given such incredible talks
he's just amazing.... he keeps you listening with his voice and just the way he acts out what he's saying sometimes..... my favorite poem by him is the one he did at def poetry jam called voice
"That's all you wanted anyway" still gets me when I think about this poem. I think the audience kind of brushed past how powerful the poem becomes for a second because the rest was funny, but I love it.
Decided to attempt to watch all Ted talks, this one was a Really creative poem and the guy showed in early days how we free thinkers thought of multiple possibilities with the Web!!! I give his creativity, forward thinking and poetic skills a solid 7 out of 10
This came out when I was finishing high school this is before Google Maps that is why he said MapQuest because with math question you didn't have the app on your phone you actually had to print out directions and carry them with you
On a side note, who wanted to see ted’s first video, saw how old it was, saw how little comments there were, and tried to look for the oldest comment on this video?
Honestly I don't see what's so amazing about this. The piece is written excellently however his delivery is confusing and the audience laughs at inappropriate times.
actually if u listen closly he does rhyme. it may not be like a hammer to the head, dr.suess type poetry but if you listen you can hear how intricate his rhyme style is..
Well, in the end, if you don't like him, you don't like him- but you should listen to some other stuff by him. 4am, Op Talk, Kite and Dirty Talk are really good.
The subject matter is a little cheesy, in my opinion, and I would have preferred something a bit funnier, but I have to say that I'm quite impressed with his delivery. And even more so than that, he is clearly an excellent wordsmith.
Rives is quite the slam poetry and humorist... here is one on he I controlled the Internet. he is both entertaining, and engaging..... look for his one called DEAF also..
@HallieBaby That really was the best part. Kind of hit me out of nowhere too. I still have a spam email that was sent from my friend's MySpace account. He passed away four years ago. Not going to lie, sometimes I look at it and pretend it's an actual message just sent recently. Totally hit home for me.
You really can tell the TED crowd likes this but doesn't know what to make of it. The laughter Rives got from the deceased in your inbox confused me, and him, you can tell he tried to quell it by speaking faster than he wanted to.

thank you for the insight on the song hummed at the end of this poem by Rives, that insight makes the poem even more delightful and creative.
I wonder if he was ever on Def Poetry Jam. He's amazing! My teacher showed this clip in class today. Love it!!
he most definitely was. "he wrote and performed one of my favorites from the series "The Kite"
Brilliant, witty and well-constructed poetry/word art.
I can understand that some won'tget it. Some used to hate Shakespear in his day.

The first TED TALK
If anyone ever tries to tell you that TED is the smartest channel on UA-cam, just link them to this video.
One talk does not invalidate a whole organization. Linking them this video is basically cherrypicking the worst.
Honestly I don't see what's so amazing about this. The piece is written excellently however his delivery is confusing and the audience laughs at inappropriate times.
It is a little bit similar to "Serial Experiments Lain".
