As a 17 year old who has been going to the MPM since I was little, I applaud your ability to walk right up to the exhibits. I still have to close my eyes when passing the elephant and going through the underwater section in living oceans. Bravo!
This was my first museum as a child and I spent many afternoons here, you can imagine my disappointment going to literally any museum since! Even the LA history museum disappointed compared to the interactive wonder that this museum has!
It is pretty awesome, but their T-Rex statue while accurate, such as it doesn't drag its tail, is a bit dated and looks a little toy-like compared to some of the latest T-Rex statues I've seen. I can't remember which museums they were, but there's at least two out there that have better looking T-rex statues. Also, the triceratops' eye is way too close to the horn. Though as a whole this is one of the best museums out there for sure.
I don't know about everyone else. But when I was a kid, that T-Rex exhibit used to scare me to death! I've been wanting to go back to the museum for years. Was one of my favorite places as a kid. I remember all the tours we took there in school. Thanks for uploading.
No problem! the T-rex scared me when I was little too, mainly the noises that played on the speakers! I also was afraid of the oceans exhibit where you descend the curving corridor and see underneath the "ocean" thru the portholes.
Always loved the native American exhibits with lake Michigan in the background. Have very fond memories going back 20plus Years now. Thank you for making this.
Tenía yo 8 años en el 79 cuando mi madre y yo viajamos desde Tamaulipas México a Milwaukee para Visitar a mis hermanos quienes vivían ahí. Recuerdo el museo como si fuese ayer. Grandes recuerdos!
Well done! Lots of memories from going there at least once a year for the first twenty years of my life or thereabouts, starting in the late 60s. I recall that the beautiful diorama of the Indians hunting buffalo (around 25 minutes into your video) included a “secret” button near one corner that would activate a rattlesnake’s tail! Was hoping to catch a glimpse of the Junkpile in the “Urban Habitat” exhibit but seems that exhibit was removed back in 1988! Ah, well …
The oceans exhibit always scared me as a kid, I finally overcame my fear in high school when I went with a group of friends lol. Even today I don’t think I can walk down it by myself.
Man. I live abroad now and constantly wish I could be here. It never occurred to me that someone might have uploaded a full tour of it like this. Can't thank you enough. This is actually my favorite place in the entire world. I was just showing my nephew the T-Rex room and how I used to sit on that upper deck until someone forced me to keep moving lol. That museum is my Camelot. The Zoo takes 2nd place, also. Mold-O-Rama 4 life.
I live in the UK now, and found this video by chance. Reminds me so much of going there on school trips. I'm sad to hear that they're going to be forced to a new building. Something will surely be lost.
I can't thank you enough for this video. Because of covid the museum has been closed for a bit now, and I really missed going. Seeing your video made my week so much better. I can't wait to be back in the museum in person, but this will truly help me wait until we can go back. I've been going to the MPM ever since I was in first grade, and being able to remember where each exhibit was (and what it smelled like) seems more like a superpower now haha!
No problem! Did not plan on filming for a youtube video. Decided on the spot when you see the ice age exhibit. That was the first clip filmed! Just found out it closed.......again!
I recognize that diorama of the T Rex and triceratops from a movie that I saw when I was like 3 or 4 years old. It would have close ups of the T Rex's teeth and play a screaming sound. Creepy but fascinating.
I can’t believe this is all going to gone in the next few years! I wish I were filthy rich with money to burn because I’d fix this place up and keep the memories!
I would love to visit the museum again. I haven't been there since I was 11. I noticed they put grandma in her house instead of her rocking chair lol the exhibit that used to scare me was the pow wow. Only because they were moving in that circle and that somehow creeped me out. Then again, I have this phobia with wax figures so yeah, lol Edit: oh so the Native Americans don't spin anymore lol
Thank you for having this video now that that museum will be gone, and so many exhibits will not go into the new museum. Streets of old Milwaukee and the European village. I am sure all the tiny exhibits that go back to the early 1900's will be put into storage or sold to other museums. Those are antiques. I agree that the new built museum is just a fancy building that did not even need to be smaller and modern. There are so many things in the museum that can't be moved at all. They should auction things off to millionaires who could put a whole exhibit into their house or another building for safe keeping. How are they going to honor all the artwork that it has? When the building is demolished and all the parts that can't be removed inside people will cry as it comes down. Of course the buildings in the Streets and European houses will all be removed of all their artifacts, and only empty rooms will be left .
You are welcome! The high up “elites” who run the museum don’t care and don’t want to listen to the people. They only want to promote their new propaganda, want to erase history, cost cut, etc. It would be a miracle if someone took over that had a heart for the current museum and fixed the problems in the building and also update and refresh any outdated exhibits. Only our Lord knows.
@@AndyMicoley1995 I read that the cost for repair of the museum would cost just as much as the new one being built. So they decided to go with the new. I learned a lot from seeing the museum since I am 70 years old now. I barely remember the one in the library though. Once I was able to visit the art dept in the museum. It taught me how to make lifesize wax figures.
Thanks for your work in documenting this spectacular place! I recently visited the MPM myself for the first time, and like you, I'm interested in helping to document it before it's gone. I spent five full days in there taking photos of every panel of every exhibit (including the accompanying text) and I'm working on getting them organized into what will hopefully be a permanent virtual archive of the museum once it's gone. (Don't think i'm allowed to post links in youtube comments, but it's on flickr) Anyway, I wanted to reach out because unfortunately, I arrived too late to capture some of the museum's most iconic exhibits, which have already been removed. I was wondering if you'd be willing to let me use a screenshot from your video to fill in one of the gaps in what I was able to capture? In particular, I am referring to the wall of Navajo rugs seen at 37:25 in your video. Haven't been able to find any other images of that online. But with your permission I would like to add it to the "Southwestern" album and of course I will give you appropriate credit!
I can tell you what your going to end up with. It's going to be like this souless place we have in Cleveland. Small, well lit, heavy on evolution and bones. Very small dioramas. And cheap. Forget your old village. You should all be fighting back on this.
@@w8909-j9y No the building from 1960 is in such disrepair that they can't have it anymore. Plus i heard that it was not getting funds for repair. the basement has leaky water pipes and . they should have kept up with the repairs instead of making that ultra modern new smaller building.
This video is a treasure now that they're tearing all this down.
At least we still have a few years left to see this.

The history, stories and ground breaking science that MPM holds! Truly a world leader in the industry!

Andy M same here. Mostly cause the ocean is such a strange, and alien world. And I didn’t really wanna know what lurked down there
