  • Hello all So which is better?? .22LR or .22 FAC Air ? Well I intend to find out .I don't think I will ...but who knows?? I will try anyway and you guys can watch me fail as normal ! Well this vid just shows how these .22LR and .22FAC can muck about so much . One day its good , the next day is odd as you like ! My CZ 452 using Cci standard bullets against the Daystate Red Wolf HP using Howler slugs from Daystate made by Nielson slugs was not an easy task ,but did we have a winner?? Watch for some shocking shooting and odd results .

    So I figured that a .22 shooting slugs was the way forward but you guys want to see the .25 . Well I shall endeavour to make this so . What ranges would you want to see against the Rimfire ? Tell me all

      Thanks for the reply Roger. I would say pellets for the 25 simply because most ‘pro’ shooters on UA-cam don’t rate slugs in that caliber 22 is much better, the range 100 yards is a nice round number. 👍

    In general a high value top quality PCP air rifle using heavy premium slugs is easier to control and as mentioned by others before, it is more consistent. Vibrations and barrel harmonics are Milder and its cleaner because there is no Powder residue to consider. A top dollar top of the line .22 using premium ammo can match the accuracy but it would either cost more or you need to prepare more like rim and weight sorting your ammo and prepping your barrel. It was in the guiness book of records that the most accurate Gun is a PCP air rifle, ive read that way back in the 80s... I dont know if that still holds today where both the rimfire, airgun, and ammo have come a long way in terms of better Tech and engineering. Given a no wind condition ill give it to the PCP airgun but not by much.

    More comparisons would be welcome. Like sound levels and cost. I know the digital airwolf is significantly more expensive than a 22lr but ammunition price differences would make it an interesting "cost to buy and shoot 1000 times" comparison. I have a pest control business and use sub 12ftlb at present. I'd like to know which avenue to take when I do go for longer range hardware

  • @Judge_Dredd
    @Judge_Dredd Рік тому

    As a .22lr Target Shooter, no-one I know uses a magazine, it's all single shot bolt action, and you're rushing your shots.
    Not sure you're adjusting your NPA, so are correcting aim with muscles rather than position, or properly regulating your breathing (you seem breathless so perhaps need to settle down for longer). I also suspect you were using too much pressure on the cheek piece during the first five .22lr, and perhaps by the time you did five .22 slugs FAC were correcting with your shoulder muscles, pulling the muzzle right.
    I'm assuming you batch tested various brands of .22lr and .22 Slugs at 10 yards to see which groups best, then after selecting the CCI and Slug tried at 25 yards, but I'd recommend a barrel tuner beyond that, and adjust the tuner for 100 yards before comparing FAC Air with .22lr.
    However, I suspect in any variable wind the 40 grain will always be more accurate/predictable than the 20 grain.

    Good stuff Roger very entertaining as usual. I have a 25cal Crown fac using 25.39 JSB. At a 100 yards on a good day no wind it will do 3” groups if I do my bit. Tested against my Lithgow LA 101 22LR using SK standard plus it will do 2” groups again good day and my bit. I vote for the LR. If you use “quality “ 22LR Match ammo the results will be good it’s a step up from standard ammo, just like using slugs it’s a step up from pellets. At range say 100 150 yards a 22LR will deck a rabbit I would not be as confident using an fac air rifle. Be interested to see you review when you do the 25 V 22LR comparison. Good stuff 👍

    Nice one Roger i honestly still think it is on the day for both as you did pull one of the rim fire shots other wise i think it would have been equal. • @liquidsteel
    @liquidsteel 3 роки тому +1

    Fun video. My Tika T1x can easily out shoot my FX impact. The wind for air rifles is simply a big challenge for slugs or pellets. 40gr bullets is alot of weight. But still can move but not as much. Of course Consistency for ammo is really important. End the end the Air rifle is still Cheaper to shoot. But initial cost the Tika is only a 520$ rifle and Elley Club is about 8& a box. Toss up suppose.

    Quite interesting. I had a friend over with his CZ shooting the Quiet-22 CCI at 710 fps. And it was actually fairly tame in the sound department. We calculated the energy at 45 foot pounds on the CZ and my .22 Cricket was shooting around 40 foot pounds with 18.1 gr JSB's so they were quite close in power. He wanted to zero at 30 yds for squirrel hunting and he had a 3-9 power Nikon scope. We shot five shot groups at 30 yds and I pretty much smoked him? Of course it could be that I was using a 30 power scope on my Cricket pup? Would be cool to see you do a test at say 30 to 50 yds/meters with the CCI Quiet rounds against pellets ? I was amazed at how quiet they were compared to the regular long rifle rounds.

    What’s the speeds on both? If the 22lr is going subsonic and you have the right barrel it will be pretty much just as good as the air rifle but will not be affected bye wind as much. The same goes for the air rifle if you up the bullet to a 40grain and shoot it just below the transonic barrier.

      Thanks for that , yes my .22 LR is a cracking tool , it’s accurate but not as much as the FAC air which is amazing . The stock is a Dolphin stock and I must say helps accuracy big time . Sadly it’s a one off as Dolphin don’t make them for 452’s normally . Guess I am just lucky 😵😵. My gun loves CCi and not much else really ? It will shoot other rounds but not with the accuracy of the CCi standard by any means

    I will always prefer my .22 lr to a high powered airgun, also why go through all the hassle off getting a firearms license for an air gun as must get our medical history from the docs etc, also the airguns are great for certain situations for hunting especially around barns where the .22 lr is to much but then a sub 12ft will do the job.

      @@TripleGRogerLait i have the gunpowder stealth that is around 30ft lbs using Bisley magnums that weigh about 21.4grains, I find them ok but I still prefer the power of the .22 lr at longer ranges and they have better knock down power over those distances than the fac airgun, but maybe the fac airgun got their uses as in built up areas where the .22 lr can be more of a danger as you understand they send some dangerous ricochets when using in fields with flit etc, also I have come across foxes when out with the .22 lr and have taken them out over a 100 yards using subsonic ammo which I would never attempt with a .22 airgun.

    Nice vid . I find Norma subs .22 lr are the most accurate out of CZ 457 & Anschutz, we get very, very good results using H&N slugs 21&23 gr and I have tried most slugs but H&N always come out on top , even at 120+ yards .
    Can you buy howlers yet in this country as daystate have put there name to it ?
    .25 I recon will be the winner out of all three , specially if using JSB mk2 33.9 gr pellet . I have tried 5 different slugs makes but can’t get them to work , then I tried JSB mk2 slugs which we got sent for testing, these look very promising & same weight as mk2 pellets

    .22LR is a more accurate rifle than a.30 and in the right hands is a personal favourite, the .25 is not much of an improvement in a bit of wind down range because the .22lr is cutting through the air faster IMO the only thing that you have with the .25 is a bigger impact like being hit by a cricket bat and the .22lr is more like hitting with a golf club, like a good swing with a number 2 wood in the right hands and distance you can put the round where you want it but the .25 or .30 it matters less on accuracy because the impact is going to make a mess of whatever it hits

    I think 'your' mate should keep his opinions to himself. He's obviously got no experience of a . 22lr competition match rifle using batch tested Tenex from Eley. I'm looking at a group from just Eley Match ammunition of 9.5mm outside to outside measurement produced outdoors at 50m. It defeats the argument to use a top of the line air rifle pitted against a so so .22lr that nobody in their right mind would use for competition small bore. Like for like
