  • Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of streaming. Talk about differences in compensation to the artists by the various streaming services. I will also give my overall view on streaming. As always, I will reveal last video’s unknown album covers and show two new unknown albums.

    Very nice and enjoyable presentation of this episode. Yes I have the van Morrison "Astral weeks" album on cd

      Thank you. I think “Astral Weeks” is one of the most under appreciated albums. Thank you for watching

    Another enjoyable video, think we can all admit to being a little conflicted over streaming services

      It is almost a question of morality, although I know that is a bit much to say. Steaming will not be going away anytime soon so I learn to live with all of its consequences. Like driving a gas fueled car. Thank you for watching

    Thank you so much for this presentation! I'm probably about your age and believe that you spoke to all my reasons for not adopted streaming as a prime listening method. I'm also just a slow adopter of technology and don't like wearing headphones in public.
    I would get on my high horse about supporting musicians by purchasing physical product, but 50% of the LPs and CDs I buy are older releases that I am buying used copies, so I'm still depriving the artist of compensation for their record. It does feel good to buy a new LP/CD by an artist I want to support.

      It is ok to buy a used CD/LP. Remember, someone bought the album originally. Enjoy your music collection. Thank you for watching

    Give me physical media over streaming anytime. The music could disappear from streaming sites and as you said, the music is yours when you buy records and cds. It's ridiculous the paltry amounts artists get from streaming sites and I didn't know they all paid different amounts to the artists for their work.

    Apple Music went lossless/hi res lossless in 2021. I have the option of listening to the Dolby ATMOS or 5.1 mixes of new and older albums. Marty Robbins’ Gunfighter Ballads is in 16/44.1 lossless and sounds like it was recorded yesterday.
    I play the majority of my music on my home theater with my Apple TV 4K connected to my Yamaha TSR700 by HDMI. I have a pair of Bose 301 II’s I bought new as my fronts. The vast majority of the music in my library is hi res lossless Apple Digital Masters that streams at 24\48 from the ATV 4K.
    I have one album that has a track “greyed out,” Boz Scaggs “Dig”. “Get on the Natch” is greyed out.

    First off I want to give you big thanks for such great information and bringing such detailed numbers on those streaming services.
    Being a musician and knowing quite a few bands, I know that many of them see very little money from the streaming services (This is from metal bands though) But they earn very well with physical copy sales, especially the way vinyl has been going. I can't really voice an opinion on mainstream genres though and their revenue.

      I’m glad the information was helpful. If streaming will be with us for a while, then negotiations of musicians with there streaming services may be necessary. This may increase the subscription rate but that may need to happen. Thank you for watching

      @@AllAboutAlbums I agree with you 100%
      You have such a open minded , smart opinion on why streaming can be good, but negative as well. And how physical copies are the most beneficial to the artists.

    While I prefer physical media, streaming is a great option. It has also helped me to find music I otherwise wouldn’t listen to. It’s just easy to use and convenient as you say.
    My streaming service is Qobuz, which has a very large selection of Hi Res albums. I have a decent streamer (Naim) and I get an excellent sound.

    Something to take into account is that if you buy an album then the artist gets paid a relatively larger percentage but only once. You can play you album many times but the artist is not payed more for that. In streaming the artist is paid each and every time you play each and every track.

    • @AllAboutAlbums
      @AllAboutAlbums  2 роки тому

      That’s a good point. Also, Tidal has changed its artist payment now based on each subscriber’s listening habits. Since I was streaming Aimee Mann’s latest album several times, she will be compensated more from my subscription fee. Kind of cool. Thank you for watching

    • @AllAboutAlbums
      @AllAboutAlbums  Рік тому

    I'm probably about your age so started buying vinyl in my teens and then went onto CDs when vinyl was harder to get (thinking of the 90's at this point). I continued with physical media and enjoyed buying vinyl again when it became cool several years ago. I did resist streaming until I bought a car which could only play music this way, from my phone. About a year ago I got into the Sonos system firstly for my TV, then for playing music. I have to say that since hooking up my old turntable to the flagship Sonos Five speakers I have played a lot more music, some via streaming (Amazon Premium HD) and some via my vinyl and CD collections. Using the Sonos system, which is able to utilize both steaming and physical media has given my physical media a whole new lease of life as my very old hifi set up hardly got used, sad to say.

    • @AllAboutAlbums
      @AllAboutAlbums  Рік тому +1

      That’s okay. Playing music is what is important and you still get to use physical media. I do use Tidal as my streaming service and use it to discover new exciting artists that later leads to a purchase of their album. Thank you for watching

      @@AllAboutAlbums I also use streaming now to 'try out' an album before I buy the physical copy - it's very useful for that! I did that with an album you recommended on one of your videos as it happens. Now I love it so much I will soon buy the CD copy

    I've been streaming since 2004 when I discovered Rhapsody. About 6 years ago I switched to Spotify. I mostly listen to full albums. I still like physical media, but I live in a country where it's no longer available.

    • @AllAboutAlbums

      Music is the most important thing of all so if you are unable to buy physical media then at least pay for a streaming service. I’m sorry you cannot buy physical media. I must remember how fortunate I am. Thank you for watching

  • @MrMusic193

    Well, I still purchase quite a bit of CD's and have started purchase vinyl of stuff that most likely will never make it to CD. I like streaming for playlists and discovering stuff that I have not heard. If I like it, I will buy it. Physical media still rules for me. As far as listening, I still prefer my AV system with floor standing speakers. Now, the real issue, artists not getting paid what they should be getting. One of my favorite bands, Tesla, recently stated that they would only be releasing singles and then maybe putting them out as an album. Also, I want to own my music. With streaming, you no longer own the music. I have also had some songs that I purchased on iTunes suddenly disappear. Morale of the story, pay the artists

    When streaming, are there any choices as to which version of a song you can choose? If an album has been brickwalled or otherwise messed up during remastering and re-release, will streaming services automatically update to the most recent version, with the superior older version disappearing forever?

    • @AllAboutAlbums
      @AllAboutAlbums  2 роки тому +1

      No. Streaming services like Tidal will have the original release and also the remastered version. This should be indicated adjacent to the album title.
