  • Discuss the idea of having listened and purchased more albums or owning fewer albums and listening to them more frequently. Which is better? Will also discuss if buying audiophile quality albums are worth the price. As always, I will reveal last video’s unknown album and show two new unknown albums.

I think we all agree that there are albums that transport us to a particular time and place. I think they're almost as evocative as smells in there ability to do that! There's a flip side to this as well. There are albums that we need to be in the right "space" - temporal, physical and psychological - to connect with. If we limit the plays we give albums (just to increase the quantity we listen to) we risk missing what might be gems. There again, variety is indeed the spice of life!
In other words, I'm on the fence here and trying both approaches!
Thanks for another highly interesting video. 😊

Glad you enjoyed. I like having all great albums on my shelves. Unfortunately this is not the way any album collection is. But, if I give albums a chance by listening to them an extra time or two, then I will have More albums that I enjoy. Thank you for watching

Hey Alex, another great video. Maybe, I missed the point of the topic, but as far as quantity vs quality, this is my take. I used to think that if the CD wasn't filled to the brim with music, it was a rip-off. Over the past several years, I look at the quality more so than the quantity. In other words, don't fill up the entire CD just for the sake of filling it.

My point is not to buy albums just to own a title if you’re really not interested in the music. A valuable collection is never how I collected. If I own a collectible it’s by accident. Fewer well worn albums that you love are the real true value. Thank you for watching

Hi Alex, this video has really got me thinking about my collection of LPs and CDs. I have about 15,000 albums between the two formats. I often pick up albums I know very little about if they are priced cheap. I am interetsed in discovering new favorites. I do, however, also buy fully priced albums of artists I already know I like from time to time, usually when the stoe is featuring a 25% discount sale. So, in general I try to balance quality and quantity, though quantity is clearly more prominent in my collection. I try to give several listens to each new acquisitions, but don't always succeed. I also neglect many albums that are already in my collection versus new purchases. I can see the advantages and disadvantages of each approach but I do prefer the thrill of discovering new favorites.

I hear you. It’s always a balancing act. I hate knowing I have many albums that I have not given the proper amount of time to really get to know and come to appreciate. You do have a very large collection but everything is relative. A viewer told me he has over 100,000 albums! I asked him where he slept. Thank you for watching

I have only 2 Rush albums.... but i know people that have them all. I often ask them...
"What do you think of the use of the upright piano in the track "Spirit of Radio" from the album "Permanent Waves"?
They look at me blank.... many people have not even heard it.
I will never live long enough to know the key, tempo, lyrics, quantity and quality of instruments etc, in all the music i love.... but i have that knowledge in all the records i own.

That’s exactly my point. Those first 300 albums I purchased I have a special bond with and I tend to know more of the liner notes. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching

@@AllAboutAlbums Thanks for your contribution to the vinyl community. A voice of rationality. May i ask, have you ever had to replace records because you worn them out...? i know i have. Many titles that i bought as 1st pressings accompanied me to house parties during that era. There loss doesn't make me sad.... the complete opposite in fact! The re-issues now bring back so many happy memories and emotions, more so than photos i have from that period.

Second album is The Specials. Guessing on the first. Cheap Trick, might be Elvis Costello. Thanks Alex.

Correct on the first album which I thought was harder of the two. You are right. It is Costelloo’s second album.

Album 💿 also can be a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection or single idem but did you know that album can be more than 6 or 7 tracks and actually more than 30 minutes to considered to be as a official record Yep 👍 the album 💿 not ashamed is at 42:05 which is 42 minutes and 5 seconds.

Some very good points that I fully agree with! I have a collection of around 10.000 CDs and LPs, and like you, I'd do just fine with a couple of hundred of them if push came to shove. I'm not so nostalgic though. I've discovered more great music during the last 20 years of my life than the 20 ones before that. The 90s were the decade that I were in my late teens and early 20s, so this is when I started buying and collecting music seriously. But very few of my 90s albums have held up, and I rarely listen to any of those now. I used to be seriously into metal for instance, but now I couldn't care less, and most of my interest no lies within the area of jazz and classical.

I too have found a lot of great albums in the past 10-15 years. I try to stay as up to date an old guy can be. I have always listened to classical but selected albums. On the other hand, I too am exploring jazz music in a way I did with rock music in my youth. Thank you for watching

The best way to avoid taking the financial plunge on a blind purchase is to listen to the album on UA-cam.

If there are 7M albums out there and you listened to each one just once, spending 8hrs per day listening, 365 days per year, it would take over 1500 years to get through them. So we might as well go for quality...lol
