- I will discuss the importance of high resolution audio. I will also review what high resolution music is. As always, I will reveal last video’s unknown album covers and will show two new unknown albums.
It’s just like any hobby, If you are casual user you are not going to be as discerning as someone as an avid enthusiast. I think music should be enjoyed in a way that brings joy to you. For some people it’s just a boombox and for others it’s hifi system that costs more than a house. Some people are fine with streaming, others like CD and others are into 8Tracks. Do what brings you happiness. I own mp3, FLAC, CD, 8-track. Cassette, Reel to Reel, Minidisc, Vinyl. Some of them are low fidelity radio recordings and others are MoFi pressings. I have audiophile stereo gear and cheesy boomboxes. I feel I’m an enthusiast with an open mind. I encourage everyone to start somewhere and see where the hobby takes you.
Well said. Thank you for watching
Recently my wife was listening to something streaming from Spotify to Bluetooth speaker (Yamaha). Spotify sounds acceptable on this speaker. I asked to stream this song to Yamaha AVR with Elac Uni-Fi 2.0 speakers. She noticed that sound is muffled. But her jaw dropped when I streamed the same song from Roon server to Yamaha AVR. The difference was night and day. Most people are not even aware that music can sound great even on modest setup and pretty much everyone can hear the difference.
I totally agree. You can spend a modest amount and get excellent sound. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
That first one on the unknown album covers has been driving me nuts so I give up, please tell me.
The second one is OK Computer by Radiohead.
Correct on second unknown album cover. First is the new Taylor Swift album “Midnights”
Alex, I wish you could have been one of my teachers when I was in school. You have a good way of explaining things. However, that might have been a little challenging because I'm pretty sure I'm older than you are.
I would like to ask you some questions. After being a long time Spotify listener I finally figured out that the sound quality of what I have been listening to is substandard. And that makes me sad because I love music to a fault - like I can tell you do. So I need to find out how I can listen to high resolution sound. Would you mind if I asked you a few questions? Much respect to you from Larry in Washington state.
Of course. I may not know all the answers but I will do my best. Thank you for watching
I knew it, I knew you would respond back. Should I email you or how is the best way for me to pose a few questions to you? I promise I'll try to be as concise as possible. Cheers from Larry.
Send me a question via comments and I will answer you as soon as I can
Hello, do you think CDs will be collectors items in the future? I'm already noticing CD prices going up.
I’ve not seen too many CDs that go for big numbers like vinyl can. But, I have been known to be wrong (quite often). Thank you for watching
Outstanding video.........ive been buying hi res audio for many years must have over 5000 albums now.
Wow. That’s impressive. Thank you for watching
Have you got jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince of bell air?
@@MustangBoss1973 No I don’t
@@MustangBoss1973 I’ll look into it. Thank you
I have an extended collection of vinyls and CDs, for which I have a mid-end deck+cart and a CD transport that will reproduce Super CDs and DVD Audio discs. However, I find myself listening most often to Qobuz, after migrating from Amazon HD.
BUT, as far as I am concerned, what is paramount in sound quality is the original recording, and especially the mastering. So I find some pretty poor Hi-Res recordings that are no competition to a good recording on vinyl for example.
Then there's another really critical issue: how good is your hearing? Can you REALLY distinguish Hi-Res vs. a good vinyl pressing? I sometimes doubt it.
For some of us, hearing ability does come into play. I still am fortunate enough to be able to appreciate Hi-Res and a good CD/vinyl recording.
Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
Very good stuff, I just discob=vered your channel and subbed you up! I talk mainy rock vinyl on my channel, but I do cover other genres as well, thank you for sharing the great music info, Peace!
Thank you for your kind words. I will definitely check out your channel. Thank you for watching
CD audio is lo fi digital. Minimum requirement should be 96 kHz, 24-bit for digital audio. Otherwise, go for the vinyl option.
I fully agree with you. Thank you for watching
Ah, but if 9 Mbps is better than 320 kbps, just think how much better music would sound at 900 Mbps! 100x better sound!!! (A long while ago I proved to myself using a software A/B blind listening tester that I couldn't hear the difference between "high res" audio and a 256 kbps MP3. I don't think that music can be recorded in any better fidelity than CD quality. Once the sound wave is perfectly duplicated, it can't get better, no matter how needlessly inflated the file size is. Give me a well-recorded-and-mastered MP3 and a top tier home audio system any day.)
CD quality audio can sound great if it has been well recorded and you have good audio components. Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching
