[Ride along] Squad 14 LACoFD

- Ride along with squad 14 from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, following a private BLS ambulance to the hospital in Inglewood. The patient's condition requested one of the squad paramedics to remain in the ambulance to provide ALS care. The squad's electronic siren is made by Unitrol but the truck also has a two tone air horn siren similar to the french ones and can be operated by the passenger (in this case me: the cameraman) through a foot switch - by Dirk Steinhardt - www.rescue911.de - Los Angeles, California, USA - 09.2010 - Thanks to the guys from 14!!!

I'm a french firefighter and your two tone air horn are very old. Now in France, the two tone are electronic. Nice Video.
@firefiresoldier
No matter were you are from all fire fighters are brothers and sisters!
Manual trans squad, or two tone, box with a Q, lots of stop lights....that’s a damn good video.
That is awesome you got to operate the siren, lucky
LACoFD has always contracted privately, and I actually like the fact that the paramedics are trained by the fire department. It's handy to have a paramedic on scene at any emergency, you never know when the shit might hit the fan.

Siren is a up-dated Federal Touchmaster and the Hi/Lo air horn is made by Fram and used alot by departments on the west coast. YES, it is better then a single air horn and does clear traffic.
@fire112germany It basically means two EMT's are on the ambulance, not an EMT and paramedic or two paramedics.
@chargers2960 Thank you. I used to think that there is always a Paramedic on an ambulance.
Seems like you were riding along with a pretty nice guy!
Great video.
LA Paramedics love ride alongs and If they are going to Daniel Freeman that use to be a Paramedic training center
In Los Angeles County the Paramedics do not transport, all transport is by Private ambulance and follow up is done unless NO ALS has been started or If the Squad feels ALS might start they will ride. Very common. LACoFD is the best Paramedic Provider along with Los Angeles City who does transport. You have not worked EMS until you ride the streets of LA County.
Nice.. Got my second ride along comin up this Monday with a buddy of mine and his station.. Station 24 of the Austin Fire Department on engine 24.. It a pretty small station housing only Engine 24 and Brush 24. They have an EMS station right next door though.. Anyways lol sorry I'm just real excited.. I share details when I get excited haha.. But anyways, hopefully this will be my job one day.. I'm starting school for paramedic soon although my main intention is to join the FD.. Wow life story
Imagine trying to get enough bls and als rescues for all of la county. Besides, squads carry equipment like a truck company (except ladders) along with the two paramedics. I think they might be cheaper than rescues too.
@fire112germany BLS means basic life support, and the medics were most likely not certified to provide ALS. Just a guess though.
Its interesting that the ambulance has EQ2B.
haha driving down century blvd! awesome video!
I think its the Unitrol Touchmaster. That "tick-tick" sound you hear periodically does sound like it
You're correct. The ticking sound is the relay switch inside the siren unit.
@Sgtellzo Very well explanation! You have a point!
@m5dinan Most European countries have small fire engines because there is no need to have massive ones, they are built in mind to deal with the smaller streets and narrow spaces that many cities in Europe have, the the telescopic ladder trucks are big but not as big as US pumper trucks (in the UK at least). In the UK we have many state of the art equipment in our trucks and they pretty small, just goes to show big isn't necessarily best !
@chargers2960 The ambulance has an EQ2B.
Lol sorry to blabber on.. Nice video I enjoyed it
Very interesting video. Cheerleaders, bus on a tow truck, and an ambulance with a Q. Only in LA :)
Not only in the suburbs of Los Angeles. EQ sirens on ambulances are somewhat common in the northeast (Brookhaven, PA and Wildwood, NJ has EQ equipped units) and Philadelphia has a few tow trucks that pulls out busses, though it's a rare occurrence.
What is a BLS-Ambulance and why can't the ambulance-paramedic provide ALS?
We have that here in Kansas City Mo. Per medical call we have 1 Pumper w/ 4 FF/EMT & 1 Ambulance w/1 Paramedic & 1 EMT. Which do you thinkis better 2 FF/Paramedics & 2 EMTs with a small squad or a pumper & Ambulance with 1 Paramedic & 5 EMTs?
Is 14's one of the busier stations in la co? Also what is the busiest,and the slowest? Thanks
Way dont the driver keep the siren on all the time responding 2 the call?
A manual transmission... that's not very common for an emergency vehicle in the USA, am I mistaken?
Of course that was in my day my First Certification was in 1978. im old
LACoFD now have the newer fords with eq2b siren what year was this taken?
Nope. The ones with the EQ2B sirens are from Dodge (err, Ram Trucks, because they became a separate Chrysler division in 2012, LOL..)
Which Unitrol do they use?
The cheerleaders were probably preparing to shoot an adult production, knowing Los Angeles.
@KosukiFire Amen!
@firefiresoldier Electronic isn't nessesary better than air. Take the german Martin-Horn. Most Firefighters are sure thats the best way of getting to the call. And its tens of years old.
I was born there-Centinela Hospital
@jeanphilippeg usually is rare, yes
Where's that Q coming from?
The ambulance in front of the squad truck has a Electronic Q
@SmokyBarret bedenke...die Teile sind fast so groß und so schwer wie bei uns nen übliches HLF ;-)
Davon ab haben die nen Patienten an Board, dies bedarf oft eines behutsamen Transports.
@firefighter7494 I wouldn't have seen them... ;-)
@Char1zard93 It was a burp.
@SmokyBarret Wenn der ALS machen mußte - und darum gehts ja offenbar - dann muss der ggfs. während der Fahrt am Patienten arbeiten. Das geht nicht, wenn der Fahrer Hackengas gibt.
@christianpolice its Volunteering
Why does the LACOFD use a squad, instead having paramedics on ambulances? The County is contracting private ambulance service for transport. This system seems like it would be less costly for tax payers.
You'd have to have atleast 174 ambulances
@firefiresoldier but we sure got way more resources and advanced technology than you guys do. By no means am i trying to be racist or anything. I got full respect to the French. But man i saw a couple of vids of your fire engines in france theyre pretty small and old.
@fire112germany :P
I spy me some cheerleaders
4:08 wtf:D
I hate those french siren! :D
