  • Ride along in the middle of the night in West Hollywood with squad 8 from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Fire station 8 has a small 1st due are so that most of the calls are very close to the fire house. Station 8 houses 4 vehicles with 3 of them being parked in a row in one bay. So depending on the call the crew may need to shuffle by getting out some trucks before the dispatched unit(s) can leave the station. LACoFD always responds to medical calls with both the nearest squad and engine. The transport is being operated by private ambulance companies //

    I saw Squad 8 responding to a Call when I was in (WeHo) LA for the first time in May 2010. It was awesome to finally see LACoFD and the squad in action, especially after watching Emergency! since I was in kindergarten. I love they are driving Manual Transmission - Great stuff - Please keep doing it! I really appreciate the time you take to do these videos!

    Cool Video, How Do You Ride Along With So Many Agency's. Do They Let You Spend The Night In The Station?

    I understand some stations need to keep more than 1 unit in the same bay .But what I don't understand is since ems calls out number the calls a engine responds to is like 3 to 1 why wouldn't the squad be in front instead the back of the engine

    Yeah, I think the 1970-71 Dodge Squads were stick shifts too. The "Squad 10" in the pilot also had leaf springs and a solid I-beam front axle.
    I read the TV "Squad 51' front end didn't hold up too well with A-frames and coil springs.

    The person they responded to first was probably thinking, "Oh I hope they don't take to long to get here, please don't take long." 1 min later. "Oh joy they're here."

    Wow, a municipal vehicle in the United States with a standard transmission? Unbelievable.

    The second call seemed to be really close to the station and the Paramedic driving the squad didn't seem to know where he was going. That was also the slowest emergency call I've ever seen. Code 3, anybody?

      Mitch Mulcahy I agree. he really should have just followed the engine or the mccormick ambulance if it was that hard to find the location.

  • @tonygreene5733

    @jazzbutterworth by sebding the engine and the squad you get more options to choose from when it comes to whatever type of call it is because the engine and the squad have different supplies and tools. Better to be safe then sorry.

      Yes they do, LAFD has stations in neighboring North Hollywood, thus sometimes providing assistance when needed.

    Are all of their squads manual shift? It's pretty uncommon for any emergency vehicle to be standard, especially in large fleets.

  • @Cipher160
    @Cipher160 13 років тому

    @bonzty He's there to let the driver know the squad is able to pull out and if needed back in again. As for getting a bigger station. I don't think the properties around the station would be to happy if one day LAFD takes out their walls and say you gotta leave we're making room. K thanks, bye. Building a entire new one would be extremely expensive and lets face it. It's LA, where would they put it since the stations are placed specifically in strategic positions.

    Seriously, I don't see why they need to send engine AND squad for ems. I figure it would be just like Syracuse. Send the squad so as to cut down on fuel costs and such. But here, we wend... both???? Maybe if the squad requested but...

    • @NeoDissension
      @NeoDissension 10 років тому

      LACoFD policy requires a captain to be on scene for supervision. Presumably, they got sued for something in the past that the chiefs thought would have been prevented if an officer were present.

    • @CaptainLee
      @CaptainLee 10 років тому

      Druid K Junior Just say someone refused medical care but the Squad paramedics treated them. Not only doctors get sued but the paramedics will because they transported the person and treated them to the hospital. Squads do carry paramedics but no PIC (person in command). Sometimes they send engines for man power like lifting heavy persons or tough medical calls that need for people. Captains are there to supervise them and make sure they don't get sued or and command engine to help them and things like that.
