You two are honestly the only reaction channel that I’ll watch. As a fellow Christian it’s so refreshing to see a pastor as yourself analyzing something like metal and not use quick judgment, but logic instead. Keep it up guys.

Countdown to extinction is a masterpiece of an album and still my favourite .
I cannnot pick between the first six (and the Hidden Treasures EP) by Megadeth, because it all depends on mood for me. They are all fantastic, but this is more appealing to the masses, I think.

Dave Mustaine is actually a christian too. I don't think he was when this song came out, but its cool to see a pastors interpretation of a Christians work from when said christian wasn't a christian. Interesting how it holds up.
He became born again in 1993ish when he died and they brought him back to life . The song Victory is a homage to that period when he died.

Yeah, I was disappointed it wasn’t mentioned. That’s my favorite line of the song. I suppose maybe Pastor Rob thought he did hit on it because that was basically his conclusion.

The Megadeth song on the Last Action Hero soundtrack is their song Angry Again, another really good tune by them, but not their traditional thrash metal.
This is Megadeth’s biggest hit by a wide margin. It got a TON of radio play back in the early 90’s. I’m sure you’ve heard it before.
It really didn't get a lot of radio play were I live, even though Megadeth has a really solid fan base in Portland. The Rock stations here were never friendly to Metal music in general, with the exception of Metallica, even back in the early 90s. The one (and only) Modern rock station in the 90s that wasn't strictly Alternative focused, did play this song from time to time, but it was never on regular rotation like Metallica was.

Their newest album from 2016 is full of songs with this kind of tone of totalitarianism. The song “ Washington is Next” from a different album hits very close to home too. Love the vids!

Thanks for an honest reaction! I came of age during the “Satanic Panic”, and Megadeath (and pretty much everyone else) was considered Satanic. My pastor at the time would have spun this song to be glorifying the anti-Christ, and killing Christians. Hell, he called Stryper a group of “sheep in wolves clothing”.

"Behold the Crown" or "Lost in the Static" by After the Burial (either will blow Pastor Rob's mind) and "Deceiver" or "Out of Control" by The Ghost Inside
I would like to put some historical context on this. In the 80s, there was less flow of information like there is today with the advent and development of the Internet, so back then I think social trends were formed through the TV and print media and then there was much greater bandwagon effect. The same I think held true in the music & entertainment industry. So one trend was that all hard rock/heavy metal bands started singing about drugs, then it was anti-war, etc. Well there was no question hard rock/heavy metal were very left in their politics so when Reagan came into office, they loved to dump on him. Def Lepard started criticizing military buildup, Living Colour started singing about Cult of Personality, and then Megadeth jumped on the bandwagon with this song alluding to Reagan being a celebrity people worshiped to their own detriment. Ironically, however, the song later proved to be most applicable to Obama who was promising to heal the planet and roll back the oceans with his awesome political organizing superhero powers.

I know I have said this a couple times already but I would love to hear your thoughts on Bloody Angel by Avatar. Its honestly a great song and the title makes it sound like its anti Christian but its absolutely not. Love you two and your reactions keep them coming!

I would say the reason they wasn’t cause they were too progressive. Cause Megadeth aint progressive at all. Probably cause Dave voice IMO.
@@metalsucks3061 I wasn't saying Megadeth is technically progressive. I'm just saying they had more prog aspects in my opinion where Metallica was more straight up Thrash, not that they didn't have some prog aspects as well. But songs like In My Darkest Hour, while not technically progressive, bring on a lot of the same musical imagery as progressive metal bands like Mastodon in my opinion.
@@plantdesigns7889 maybe, but I think both would incorporate more of both into their style. One for instance, also I can agree they are definitely more technical than Metallica.

I hope eventually you'll give the new Whitechapel tracks a listen, Orphan is a really beautiful almost alt rock track, it has hints of newer Katatonia or Perfect Circle and Bloodsoaked Symphony is just a mid tempo heavy death metal track.

Someone mentioned it earlier but Dave Mustaine is now a Christian but was not at the time of this song. I believe David Ellefson the bass player on this album had professed Christianity at a younger age before Dave but not sure how well he has been following since he was recently let go by the band for some shenanigans of sorts. Great band!
