Money isn't what is evil. It's the love of money that it what is evil.
This is correct. Hopefully I didn’t misquote the scripture.
Don't think so, because Jesus sais the man who made most of his bankroll gets the best place in God's kingdom...
I think a truth Christ understood is that money can justify anything.
And money seem to draw love to it.
You make a million dollars, and you need another million. Another billion. Another hundred billion.
And no matter how you make it, people will give you a pass because "a man's gotta make money" or the like.
Not even just the love for money but greed in general
Excellent song covering hypocrisy in the money obsessed chuches.
Iron Maiden actually formed in 1975 and is still going strong. They just put out an album within the past few weeks. Maiden was also a major influence on Metallica and Thrash in general.
Gauge was so close!
And Dave Mustaine
Too bad everything after Brave New World is shit....
@@mikeharry1799 man, except they're not. But opinions are a real thing.
Up the Irons.
Fun fact : Nicko Mc Brain, the drummer, is a born again christian.
Yep. And he has mentioned that before concerts, he sits with his bandmates and does prayer. Very cool
Yup, and he's reportedly the most laid back/easygoing of them all :)
Not that it will do him any good, Clive Burr will be sitting waiting at the pearly gates, " that's the guy Pete, that's him there 😂"
@@Bdoc76 That's the down side to ambition I suppose.
@@middleageddad Love Nicko he will waltz on in 🤣
Bruce Dickinson is my favorite frontman. He’s so entertaining to listen to as well with a MASSIVE stage presence live.
Same, Bruce and Corey Taylor are my two number one favourite frontmen 😆
@@ChimpScape wait mine too! did we just become best friends?
Billy Graham was one of the only television preachers who didn't attack metalheads and he said God loves them and never had a public scandal
Billy Graham was a true television evangelist and I believe he was truly lead by the Holy Spirit
It was said Billy Graham would never meet with a female without someone else he trusted present.
I believe Billy Graham and to a lesser extent Pat Robertson were the only big televangelists who didn't get taken down by their own greed and conceit in the late 80s.
But he was still a liar.
Sounds like a preacher who was at the very least a level headed, reasonable person.
A lot of Maiden fans hated the 'No Prayer For The Dying' album . I personally loved it. 'Mother Russia' is an awesome track.
Great dissection of this song. Keep up the good work 👍
Same - like I understand not liking it, but DAMN is it a fun album. I love it.
I never hated the album. But it was one of their weaker albums. There are still some good tracks on it. But no doubt the the follow up album "Fear Of The Dark" is awesome!
The weak one were with Blaze Bayley...no offense to him whatsoever, but it ain't Maiden without Bruce.
NPFTD was one of their weaker albums, I agree but keep in mind too, Adrian Smith had just left the band and the album came out in 1990, and Bruce would himself leave two years later and (sadly but inevitably) this was the end of what we knew to be hard rock and metal on the airwaves for nearly 10 years.
There were some bright spots on the Album but nothing worth wasting in a live set over.
@@brents.8972 Yeah Blaze was for sure out of place with Maiden. And it took years for him to grow on me. But X-Factor had some good tracks on it. And Virus XI has the "Clansmen" Which is an awesome song. Funny thing Adrian Smith was actually recording with Bruce on his solo albums at the time of NPFTD. lol
@@atranfanatic
Yeah I read in a metal magazine (back when they existed--haha) that Adrian wrote a song for Seventh Son call On the Wings of Tomorrow or an Eagle--one of them....anyway, Bruce liked it, tweaked the verses and added the bridge time change and the end product was "Can I Play with Madness" haha
Its an ok song, Maiden are really pretty down to Earth guys. Axl Rose famously disliked touring with them because while Guns n Roses were drinking and drugging, Maiden would be drinking tea and reading haha
That’s why maiden has lasted as long as they have. Guns n Roses are irrelevant and haven’t released new music in over a decade
Funny thing is if they went toe to toe drinking Maiden would destroy them 😂
@@Bdoc76 i believe it ! Im definitely not saying the Maiden boys didnt like a few pints. They are and were clearly miles ahead in professionalism
lmaooo that's hardcore. Drinking tea and reading books!
@@viditjain2653 you ever try to drink boiling hot tea bro ???
You guys totally need to check out their new song, "Writing On the Wall." It's actually really good!
Hallowed be thy name live would be the best representation of the band and make for a great reaction vid!
By far not Maiden’s greatest song but it’s kind of fun musically and very tongue in cheek. Been a Maiden fan for about 37 years now
Me as well. Maiden rules the world with their unique style. Almost no new band can say the same.
This was the 1st Maiden album I got when discovering them as a 11 year old back in 1990, I've always had a soft spot for it, also think Holysmoke is a cool song. It's just about the only album they don't play anything from live, even Bring your daughter to the slaughter, which got to No1 in the UK.
For The Greater Good of God by Iron Maiden would probably interest you all for a rather obvious reason. It’s a good song nonetheless in my opinion.
Probably the last Maiden record that I enjoyed all the way through.
That would be legendary, there is so much to unpack in that song and so much criticisms of religion, criticisms that are just, to be fair. the main one being people who are claiming what they are doing is for the greater good of god just to push their agendas. Then of course there is the lyric “and as he lies in heaven, or it could be hell, I feel he’s somewhere here, or looking from below” which implies god may not be good and is watching from hell, or at least in our eyes of what “good” is, we may see him as an evil being
I'll pray for you
@@xxraddrummerxx Yeah same. A Matter of Life and Death is a great and underrated album, one of my all time favourites
Maiden formed in 1975 and released their first album in 1980. Up the irons!
Great discussion, guys. I love this song for all of its silliness. I'm a huge maiden fan and didn't even know this video existed lmaoooo
I would love to see you guys talk about "For the Greater Good of God", a much better song from them, ten years later, but about a similar topic.
I always appreciate your open mind. Thanks for the upload!
The song is “ok” the solo from Dave Murray in this is just awesome, I will always love his solos more than Adrian’s ones, they are so unique and precise.
Iron Maiden - Sign of the Cross
Poor megadeath. Pastor rob just cut them out of the big 4. Lol.
Also, not a maiden guy. Hmm. I feel like hallowed be thy name would be a good one to look at. And despite having nothing Christ related, empire of the clouds.
Hallowed Be Thy Name would be a great song to analyze the lyrical content because it has to do about one’s faith being questioned and challenged. This was something that Steve Harris mentioned this about what the song is about on VH1 show that went over the impact and each song on Number of the Beast
Thanks for this video and also the history of the Baker Family and of course Swaggart. The church body today needs to understand these false teachers are still out there today and misleading people. The only difference is the televangelists and preachers just have different last names. People still fall for this better life and prosperous feel good preaching. It’s sad but it does show the people are hungry for good news but unfortunately so many are looking towards man himself and man will always let you down
Woohoo Maiden! I highly recommend “Hell On Earth”
Y’all missed the Iron Maiden hit “Number of the Beast (666)”
This needs to be the next maiden reaction
Another vote for Hallowed Be Thy Name
First metal song I ever learned on guitar. UP THE IRONS! 🎸
I sat and learned to play this song on an acoustic guitar so I could entertain friends and family around a camp fire. Everyone that hears me play this song is always curious about the deeper meaning, which I'm more than happy to explain to them. I've even managed to get some of them to wake up to charlatans (Osteen, Treat, et al) which are very popular these days.
Iron Maiden is a very interesting band. I grew up listening to them since the late 80’s and still do to this day. It takes someone with an open mind to accurately analyze an Iron Maiden sing. Yes the artwork and some of the topics they have brought up in their songs is enough to turn some Christians away without much thought but what are they actually glorifying? The songs are written from so many different points of view one can’t justify a snap judgement without carefully listening. This reaction totally threw me off guard, I thought you were going to go the other way. Great analysis! Looking forward to many more Iron Maiden reactions from y’all in the future.
Love the breakdown. You are my kind of pastor.
A very good break down of this video. I've been a Christian and Maiden fan for over thirty years. Good job.
You guys need a do over in your intro to Iron Maiden. While this isn't a bad song, it doesn't truly represent Iron Maiden's sound or theme. Many if not most of their songs are based on historical themes or events. My recommendation would be "The Trooper" if you really want to see what these guys are about. Many people will recommend the" number of the beast" due to its religious nature and it is a great song. However it was written somewhat as a joke in response to the accusations of the band being "satanic". "The Trooper " , "Aces High" and "2 Minutes To Midnight " are a good sample of Maiden's best stuff.
Also the track "The Number Of The Beast" was based on someone's dream or nightmare they had. Don't remember if it was one of the members. Or somebody else that dreamt it.
@@atranfanatic Yes it was ! People are too quick to read the title and jump to conclusions that Iron Maiden is a bunch of Satanists
@@atranfanatic That would be Steve Hariss who writes most of the Iron Maiden songs.
Check out their song Number of the Beast
That's the one that earned the hate of some of the self righteous "witch hunter" Christians.
@@willbarnz6960 I remember that, people where smashing and burning the album in Texas when Maiden was touring there because of its name and lyrics making those over religious zealots think they were Satanists during the Number of the Beast tour.
one of your best
Dude! I appreciate your openness about this topic. We are all sinners. And you know what? That is FINE! That is why we are here! To conquer the demons. Love and Compassion to you.
God loves you regardless. God won't let you down!
Very much agree on all points of your evaluation Pastor Rob. 🍻
That was about the worst thing I could imagine to represent Maiden lol. This was the last Maiden album I bought and for good reason it seems. Check out Rime of the Ancient Mariner, which is an epic retelling of English poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge poem of the same name. These guys are absolute metal royalty! Their new album is actually pretty solid, they've been doing it for more than 40 years. Check out the opening track Senjutsu, or the Parchment.
For another song on the theme of televangelists check out Send Me Your Money.
no prayer for the dying was a bad album yes, but they have made some really good albums after it, personally their first 3 albums after bruce rejoined the band in 1999, brave new world (2000), dance of death (2003) and a matter of life and death (2006) are all my favourite albums of theirs
No prayer for the dying is my least favorite maiden album. But every album after that are amazing
@@trevorschofield9345 only maiden album i dislike so much i havent even copied it over from my disc to hard drive is final frontier. only good song on that album imo is when the wild wind blows and even that is quite mediocre for a maiden song imo
@@Deilwynna the only two songs that are noteworthy for me from that album is When the Wild Wind Blows and the Talisman. Those songs are great live
@@Deilwynna Yeah, I didn't really like Final Frontier either.
Fun fact for Pastor Rob. The Lead singer/ Guitarist for Megadeath Dave origionally joined up with Lead singer James from Metallica. They created if I am not mistaken Metallicas first Album Kill Them All. Then they split and went their own ways.
Dave was kicked out and replaced by Kirk Hammett prior to KEA's release.
I see this song as a direct response to the anti-rock movement within evangelical Christianity. A lot of these preachers like Bob Larson for instance would hold revival meetings 'exposing' the supposed satanic agenda behind rock and roll. These meetings would often culminate with record burnings, done as a kind of reenactment of Acts 19:19: "And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver."
Iron Maiden were one of the top targets of these preachers, with their album Number of the Beast being on the top of the list of kindling. I think this song is a snarky comeback to these attacks, basically stating: "if you think our records going up in smoke is a holy thing, wait til you face judgment for your own unChristian behaviour."
That being said, I echo a lot of other commenters on here that this is not a great representative track for Iron Maiden. There are a lot of Maiden songs that deal with Christian themes that would be worth taking on: Number of the Beast, Revelations, Hallowed Be Thy Name, The Evil that Men Do, Infinite Dreams, The Pilgrim, For the Greater Good of God, etc. I wanted to say though, as a fellow Christian metalhead, I really enjoy your videos.
I remember seeing an Eddie plush on Esty when I looking gifts for Christmas to give my family.
My highlight of the night!!!
🙌💯
Funny to see a preacher listening an Iron Maiden song about the crazy bad preachers of the 80's and actually understanding the lyrics and understanding what every Iron Maiden fan knew back then: Iron Maiden are not satanic...!
Hallowed be Name is a great song.
Please do Iron Maiden For the Greater good of God. i think you would get a better Idea on the Band. i've been listening to them since i was 11 (now 51) my favorite band by far.
Good review. I always interpreted the entire second verse to be about Jim and Tammy Fay Bakker, bit it definitely could have been about Swaggert too.
Your comparison to "Leper Messiah" makes sense...it seems that more than a few of the favorite targets of the televangelists took the opportunity to kick them when they were down. Another song in this vein is "Miracle Man" by Ozzy...it might be worth your consideration too.
God bless!!
Hey Gregory - I do believe when early in their career when Number of the Beast came out - Jimmy Swaggart wrote a book or an article with Steve Harris on the front cover and it was called - Heavy Metal - the New Pornography. Of course, linking this back to the Number of Beast album - even though they never read the lyrics that the song was about a nightmare - and their cheesy video was filled with throwback references to early horror movies - they were having fun with it. Fast forward a few years, Jimmy Swaggart get caught with a hooker and goes on TV crying and begging for forgiveness - so, I'm pretty sure the 2nd verse is about Swaggart - and they got him good!
Chris...I remember the background, but I just always thought the lyrics were aimed at Bakker. Swaggert definitely earned a mention as well!
Iron Maiden is a band that has an amazing history and a discography that will make your head spin. The best album/dvd is their Flight 666, its some of their best songs performed live around the world in a 747 piloted by the lead singer who is also a throat cancer survivor. In my opinion Rime of the Ancient Mariner is one of the best, live in New Jersey...ua-cam.com/video/2AmrIydnXIs/v-deo.html
Couldn't have chosen a better first Iron Maiden video to what they are not about! 😁
Awesome reaction in general though
Maidens Ancient Mariner. You must love.. all things that God made.....
Nice video! As for the song, even if the lyrics point out the hypocrisy of those charlatans, it's not one of the best Maiden songs. I suggest you check "For the greater good of God". It's from their 14th album, so much deeper into their discography.
Montsegur is another Iron Maiden song you should hear
if you want to hear some really good iron maiden listen to the album seventh son of a seventh son. there is not a bad song on that album
Thanks for the reaction. I am pretty sure you would be interested in listening / reacting to plenty of other Maiden songs with deep messages and outstanding musicianship. Suggest The Sign of the Cross, Dance of Death, The Clansman, Paschendale, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. God bless
One of Maidens silliest and most fun songs.
Iron Maiden just likes to have their fun. You hear the song and think that they're gonna look all evil, then you see their lead singer jump out of a bunch of flowers lol
I'd love for you to cover "Long Road, No Turns" by Daughters. The lead singer overcame sex and drug addictions over the last few albums and their newest was truly their magnum opus. It uses a lot of dead pan poetry with very visual lyrics. They also have a more slower song called "Satan in the Wait" which might be more lyrically relevant, but either way I think you guys will at the very least be conceptually and lyrically interested in them.
Love your content! :)
Also thanks again for another old metal song!
"Behold the Crown" or "Lost in the Static" by After the Burial (either will blow Pastor Rob’s mind) and "Deceiver" or "Out if Control" by The Ghost Inside
Hey Robert, I love your videos man. I have an immense love for the metal genre and have played guitar since I was 8 (tell gage he is KILLING it and to keep with it). I was raised in a Baptist Christian family but through adulthood have distanced myself from the church. But I love the perspective you shine on many of my favorite songs especially slipknot 🤘 but have to say you absolutely HAVE to give your opinion on some Avenged Sevenfold. Many of there songs (beast and the harlot, the wicked end, chapter four, etc.) Their name is even a Bible reference when God told Cain if anyone killed him they would pay seven times over. Its a very talented well known band I would love to hear your take on.
W.A.S.P. - Golgotha
This is an extremely underrated album. I didn’t like it when it originally came out but as I got older this album grew on me and turned into one of my favorites…still is. For the uninitiated, I would suggest one of their other classics like Rime of the Ancient Mariner to represent better what these guys are capable of.
Well put.
Iron Maiden is an old favorite! Good review, and don’t forgot to react to “architects - broken cross”!

the loneliness of the long distance runner and tracks like that are a little silly as well haha. but it is still an awesome record. I prefer seventh son myself.
@@xxraddrummerxx Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner isn't silly whatsoever. Its one of the most epic metal songs of all-time. If you guys check out more Maiden I'd love to see you do Paschendale.
Hi Pastor Rob, just wanted to say well done on the discussion of the lyrics of this song. They are certainly quite scathing of televangelists. And I imagine that it could be uncomfortable to face the reality of these people that ostensibly share your faith publicly, but in private behave immorally by the very standards that they set for others.
I imagine that one of the reasons that you chose this particular song is that it seemed to fall into your arena of expertise, if you will. Iron Maiden certainly do social commentary in some of their songs. They have also written songs inspired by TV shows and movies, books, historical figures and events (particularly around wars and conflict), as well as poetry. Maybe you could take a look at their song list to see if another title piques your interest.
Prosperity Gospel and the unwillingness of Christians to speak out against it, has done incalculable damage to Christianity.
I say this as someone who's parents left behind religion and never taught it to me. I saw it and realized they were right it was all a sham.
Ironically, I found my faith after some personal losses by quoting Scripture to false Christians. Basically a "well you say that, but the Bible says the complete opposite of that" sorts of things.
One of those things were after a bit I was like... wait... this is actually really good stuff.
Turns out arguing on the internet isn't all bad.
And thanks to you Rob for helping me open myself to the possibilities of the Gospel. I know it's kind of cheesy and I often disagree with you on some of your interpretations at times, but you did open that door for at least one person. I was hovering outside the entrance, looking in and you opened the door and said "come in, have a listen" in a way that no one really had.
Anyway. I'm to end on a lighter note, I'm in the Gauge camp of Iron Maiden is... not great.
Also no idea why I wrote a book, but whatever. Take care, you crazy kids.
For the grater good of god would be fantastic for you guys to react to. Or rime of the ancient mariner

That little mascot thing.
Iron Maiden have just released their 17th studio album Senjutsu. You should check out The Writing on the Wall, the video is phenomenal.
Frank Zappa made a trilogy... three Beatles' songs, but with the lyrics about Jimmy Swaggart :D that was funny , I thinks it's called "texas motel / beatles medley"
Great reaction as always. In your free time check out mother Russia from this same album. A slept on classic of theirs
I always interpreted the 1st verse to be about the Catholic church. "Saving the souls by taking your money". I took this to reference the fee required by priests in order to pray a person's loved ones on a purgatory.
The good pastor grew up in the 80’s like me. Amazing how the younger generations don’t know about this. Kudos to Iron Maiden for writing songs about it, but that’s kinda what they do.
Y'all should check out Iron Maidens Writing On The Wall.
You'll like the video and love the message.
Hi Pastor! I love your videos, but I still would really love for you to review Brimstone by Whitechapel. If you would, that would be awesome. If not, I’ll continue watching your videos and supporting your channel! Thanks for all you and Gauge are doing
The song came out shortly after the fall of Jimmy Swaggart and I think a few more tele-evangelists.
Holy Smoke and Leper Messiah both touch on the same topic of corrupt preachers, mostly the 80's televangelists like Billy Graham and Jimmy Swaggart. Genesis also wrote a song about that same topic called "Jesus He Knows Me".
Great job covering some Maiden! The hypocritical televangelists went by a different name in Jesus' day: Pharisees.
Another good song to react to would be Children of the Next Level by Testament.
Pharisees is actually a term used wrongly and gravely misunderstood. If you look into it Jesus was propably a Pharisee. The Pharisees were known for being true to the Word of God and well respected by the people even though they as well as we all did not have everything right. The reason for Jesus to attack the pharisees were love of them and also a result of who they themselves grew spiritually. They critized each other to be greater spirituatlly. The really bad people in that day was the Sauducess. They would fit in with Jimmy Swaggart. They were corrupted, loved money and so forth
@@davidbengtsson1999 Yes, Jesus was a Pharisee. And so was Paul for example.
The big J was an Essene.
@@Bdoc76 Essene's don't believe in the resurrection, so I doubt Jesus could be considered one.
@@davidbengtsson1999 I don't know if you can call the God who wrote the rules a follower of a sect, but I guess for all intents and purposes calling him a Pharisee is mostly true.
One of my favorite teachers had a little way of describing the Sadducees. The Sadducees don't believe in afterlife or resurrection, so they are sad you see...
This is a great Maidem song to discuss from a Christian standpoint, because it is really challenging by how it goes after televangelism and more generally the exploitation of the christian way. That could just be my opinion, although there are people who profess to do God's will, but don't really, and its important to be wary of that, not just in the lives of others, but you're own, like if you're following or being a charlatan
Hallowed be thy name live 1982!!
Wow ... i didn't know that 🤔
Iron Maiden... The best beast 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎 😎
Odd choice for maiden but not terrible - if you’re to react to iron maiden Hallowed be thy name is a GREAT starting point.
Jimmy the reptile line they’re talking about the same Jimmy Ozzy sang about in Miracle Man. In the video for the Ozzy song He’s dressed up as Swaggart at the start of the video and they even have the “forgive me father for I have sinned “ bit swaggart did on tv
In '89, right before this record came out, Steve Harris, the founder of the band and the bass player, had a fued with a television pastor. Well, it had been going on for most of the decade but came to a head around then. He was basically singling out Iron Maiden as a satanic force and a terrible influence on children, which actually couldn't have been further then the truth. The pastor was implicated in a few sex scandals and disappeared soon after. Pastor Rob, you hit the nail right on the head! Thnaks for checking out my favorite band
Hallowed be Thy Name (live version) or The Rime of The Ancient Mariner
The Grunge channel just did an episode on Tammy Faye Baker
I don’t get all the hate or this record. I’d them to play this live someday.
Band started in 75 first record was 1980 called women in uniform
wow great video if anyone watched it to the end. brought up in a Christion family I got all caught up in this from the 80s, destroyed all my Iron Maiden, Black Sabbeth and ACDC albums. All brought on by the holy Spirit war on Satanism. As a result of the fanaticism of the time. This led me to be disenchanted with the belief and would call myself an atheist, but still believe in the constructs of Christianity being consider others, obey laws, be seminarian, be humble etc, My family is Christian and I have no issues with that. I have acquaintances that are ministers are are genuine nice people but when it gets out of control it's destructive. Currently in Australia we are going through the same things with hillsong a grand church that offers you everything but wants your money to support their lifestyles. Also caught out in sex scandals.
You guys should listen to son of the morning and the finisher by oh sleeper. The two songs go together and I think you would have fun dissecting the meaning of the lyrics.
Have you done "The conjuring- Megadeth"? Dave quit playing it live(until recent) because he was into black magic during that time and he was worried there actual magic in it
1980 Paul Diano I think that's how you say his last name anyways was their singer at that time ,,, I saw iron maiden live there somewhere in Time tour
Yeah, the No Prayer for the Dying album is considered one of their weaker albums. Mostly just meh.
Some religion-themed AND awesome-sounding Maiden songs:
-The Number of the Beast
-Hallowed Be Thy Name
-Revelations
-Infinite Dreams
-Sign of the Cross
-For the Greater Good of God
I'm begging you to do at least one of these, it would be a sin to have Holy Smoke as your only Maiden reaction.
New Frontier is another one that is religious themed, as is No Prayer for the Dying (the title track), Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Out of the Silent Planet (based on C.S. Lewis's novel) and Brave New World (talks about the absence of religion in the planned society of Brave New World).

You need to react to Aces High by Iron Maiden!!!??
I was in Roma last year, and al do it was pure joy and awesome to see all those architectural marvel from 2000years back, you can not help to think wau how much is all this worth?! Vatican museum is endless halls full of riches from all over the world. Catholic church have been plundering that wealth almost since the beginning of it's existence. I mean no less then seven crusades were made. Roma has more then 900 churches. Most of them are works of art both out side, and in side.
So yeah power and money are the only thing on most of their minds...not salvation. Catholic church definitely doesn't fallow Jesus's path.
For the greater good of god by Iron Maiden would make for a great reaction video
This is why Shakespeare wrote the famous line, “Thou dost protest too much!”.🤔💁♂️
Please react to Sabaton - The Last Stand. It's a banger!
You should do Balthazars Feast off Senjutsu...many biblical themes in the lyrics
Oh geeze, not the best representation of Maiden. You might try, hallowed be they name, Alexander the great, 2 minutes to midnight, or flight of icarus. The new album that they just dropped is very solid. Some other best work since the 80s. I would recommend the first song on that album title track-Senjutsu and The Writting on the wall which is about bellshazzrs feast.
It was fun watching you guys laugh at that song LOL
