I think it would be the freakin coolest thing ever if you did a series making a miniature v8 engine. Feel like it would be possible with your milling machine.
TheHAHA199 scale v8’s are bigtime lacking in the hp department. For an rc car he’d be better off to build a 2stroke miniature version of the yamaha rz350 motor.
Can you stop with the 2005 cliche? It makes no sense. It's like you guys really don't understand the fact that we have a volume knob just as you do... you are also assuming that we have the volume all the way up at all times. I watched through the whole video without any bit of ear rape. Seems like the only one that noticed it, was the one not wearing headphones.
This brought me back to my childhood... I had a Mugen MTX-3 and an HPI R40. For me, working on the aluminum and carbon and fine adjustments of everything gave me a deep appreciation for precision works and mechanical grip, racing, etc. I never got super great at racing these cars for more than fun, but still they inspired a great passion within myself for cars and all things precision. Now I work on MRI & CT systems, and built a pretty nice turbo Prelude which is on my channel. Sadly I sold my Mugen but still have the R40, and if I ever have a kid I will surely do a "rebuild" like this with them! Thanks for the upload!!
I would’ve personally upgraded the hardware to hex drive in titanium, and those s3003 servos are basic.. some upgraded brushless servos are sweet. And a custom carbon fiber top plate/radio tray would be really trick.
Bluebird servos are cheap as chips, much better upgrade. Much faster and higher torque. A good servo is not a useless upgrade. With all that extra power especially, it would make the car easier to control and obviously more responsive to inputs. Why be content with just functioning when it could function better?
Can't believe how a ts4n can last all this time, i have mine since i was 5 years old and now it has 11 years, i just have to change the belts and some plastic piece, the rest is fine and the engine runs really well

Good video! I like it. I'm going to rebuild my hpi rs4 3 evo this week, just waiting for my chassis to arrive. Can I ask you what products you used to clean the plastic parts, and what you used for the springs before you painted them? Thanks in advance!
Don't use 4xAA battery! Get good 5x1.2V NiMH battery pack or 2x LiIon/LiFe plus 10A step down regulator. This servos under load with gyro will drain a lot of peak current = voltage drop. And pray that this belt will hold good with bigger engine :-)
That looks more like rebuilding rather than restoring.... Either way awesome job..👍love the older nitro RC's just finished a OFNA Monster pirate that is all stock original.
Looks awesome love everything you do!!! You inspire me to be a professional tinkererer also can I have this nitro car on this video? It would be awesome 🤓
I think it's more like "Building a new car using some of the existing parts from the old car" More than "Upgrading the old car"... Might just be me IDK.
I have the same RC car lol. HPI RS4 I think it was... Mines has all the aliminum and carbon fiber upgrades. There was no plastic left on it. I finally bought a novarossi engine. It was considered "the ferrari" of nitro engines at the time. Used it a few times and didnt do this anymore. Girls and college more important. I still have it. Maybe one day I'll restore it. Last I tried, one of the servos didnt work.
Just felt the urge to wake up my trx 3.3 converted Kyosho Fazer again...Thing is a monster. The fuel to tyre ratio was 2:1... Jepp, midlife rc crisis coming up...
The Rx antenna looks like it's been chopped at some point? That element is a fraction of the length of a properly tuned 1/4 wave 2.4 ghz antenna. Good news is, if you didn't already know, you can strip off the shielding to an apropriate length and have a "new" antenna that will work properly. Very curious to hear how well radiolink works for cars though, I've never used it, but considering it since I started looking to make a budget RC car to bash around with on too-windy days
I have an old Kyosho with a broken engine mount, it's been in a cardboard box for about 15-16 years. Probably gonna stay in that box until the end of times.
Using AA-batteries is asking for trouble. Li-Fe receiver pack would be much better, safer and last longer. Cool project. Made me think about fixing up my Ofna 2WD 1/8 scale monster truck with a 3.5cc engine with around 1.2Hp.. :)
"Restoring"... Basically taking a small portion of parts from the original and re-using them on what would otherwise be a whole new build. (Stretches that definition a bit.) Still it's pretty neat work.
I think it would be the freakin coolest thing ever if you did a series making a miniature v8 engine. Feel like it would be possible with your milling machine.

The motor mount fabrication was my favorite part! Cool restoration!

Asking for a sponsor?
Expensive high speed brushless servos are pretty pointless in a RC car. They belong in a helicopter or 3D plane.
Yucannt Hahvitt definitely not.
Bluebird servos are cheap as chips, much better upgrade. Much faster and higher torque. A good servo is not a useless upgrade. wait people think a $150 or $160 is a lot for a good servo? lol. its worthh buying them having a slow servo or one with no torque sucks.
Holy moly nostalgia! The first body I purchased for my nitro r/c was an E46 M3...then an E39 M5. :D

I know torque is a total different story but that bigger engine is like.. half the horsepower of a ttr125. A whole ass dirt bike. That’s wild.
Love the TS-4N chassis... Great reliability... It refuses to die...

My all time favorite rc hpi rs4 super nitro. Nice setup.

ZiegenMeister plastic gears are garbage on a 100% stock car. Makes no sense to use plastic gears

Try building a V-Twin mini engine. And if your up for the challenge, try building a V4 mini engine.
