Seriously you safety people are ridiculous. Don't drive a car then. Everything is dangerous. Worry more about cancer or heart disease or old age. Those are the biggest killers.
When it comes to USB, charging modern devices like phones is actually more complicated than just providing 5V. The old-school USB standard has power at 5v @ 500mA, which is not enough to charge a phone faster than it drains power (it might be enough if you turn off the phone, but it will be slow). Even if the voltage converter can provide more, phones won't attempt to charge properly unless the charger can signal its capabilities to the phone. These days phones use a standard called USB-PD (Power Delivery) to negotiate with the charger different voltages (5-20v) up to 100w, so your generator can definitely charge a phone, but you'll want a USB-PD capable module instead of a standard 5v USB module.
I love how you always break conventional rules when doing your experiments 😂 like “don’t do this in a poorly ventilated area” or “don’t put a gas powered motor in your mouth”
The reason why the exhaust was stinging a little is the same reason the top fuel crews wear gas masks when they start the cars in the pits. One of the exhaust fumes is nitric acid vapour.

@RCSparks: Correct. Also, I have been watching your YT channel since 2016. When you said you were leaving youtube I was so sad. But your back so I am happy to see posts to watch when I get home from school.
You are right but I couldn't keep that airplane nitro engine running without it. I read that means I was running it too rich but even messing with the carburetor it would always shut off and bog down when I took it off.
@@TheBackyardScientist My time to shine .. I collect those things. For a two-needle carburetor, you start on the setting in the manual, which tends to be on the rich side. If you don't have one, something around 1.5-3 turns open is usually fine. Now it depends on whether the engine is new, if it is, you have to break it in first (not only to make it last longer, many, especially cheaper on, won't run right before you did that for a few tanks). How to do that depends on the material combination of the piston and cylinder. You won't encounter cast iron pistons in new engines, so I don't talk about them now. Richen the mixture until it is jumping between two-stroking and four-stroking (you clearly hear it), then lean it until it just runs smooth again ..(especially for ABC-engines) DON'T run them too rich. They need to get to and hold normal operating temperature for a while. After a few tanks you can set them up correctly. Lean them to peak RPM and then back up (in direction of rich) 2-3 clicks on the needle valve. For the idle setting, you can do the "pinch-test". Pinch the fuel line with your fingers and look what it does. If it just stops, it is too lean, if it runs quite a while and speeds up during this time, it's too rich (because while it's starving of fuel the mixture becomes correct for a while). You want it to speed up just a bit and then stop. The idle speed should be set in a way that you can leave it running for 30s or so and then give it full throttle, it should speed up without much struggling (a little bit is normal). The rest is practice, you need to FEEL what the engine needs. I'm still not perfect with it, but you get better.
@@VintageTechFan yes, finicky little monsters, but once you do get it running right..., they will scream. Their power band often starts in the 10 thousand range, and they redline at 25k-35k rpms, which explains why they're so powerful. With a very energy-dense fuel and a power stroke every rotation, coupled with high rpms these things can be very powerful. Their torque is abysmal though.
Normal people: We should replace gasoline engines with electric motors to save the environment! TheBackyardScientist: What if I made a gas powered TV remote?
You've completely changed my view of Florida. I've realized that, being in AZ, trying any of your experiments would set both us and California on fire.
I love it when people actually quantify what a small version of something would be like scaled up to normal size, it actually makes understanding how incredibly powerful something like that motor very easy.
The square cube law makes comparisons like this difficult to make sensibly, because mass scales with the cube of the length if the length scales linearly. That's why smaller things are easier to make stronger or more powerful (for example ants can carry a hundred times their own weight, or toy cars can easily survive being thrown into a wall, or this engine is super powerful). If you scaled an ant up to human size, it literally wouldn't be able to carry its own weight because its limbs would be so weak.
@@vurpo7080 what? why would an ants limbs support it at all if they wouldn't scaled up? makes no sense. it's limbs would scale up with it?? and they already support the ant.....
@@ct9850the ant would be much heavier proportionate to the size. As the dimensions of an object increase the size increases exponentially. This is why a 1ft cube is only 1/8 the size of a 2ft cube

2 things, as long as the engine has the igniter on it it could sputter and chop your hand whenever you spin it at all, and 2nd you should probably use a nitro prop for the engine as they are thicker, and do not risk exploding at high rpm because of the pulses of power a nitro engine produces instead of the smoothness of an electric Overall good video, and I say I blame you for not knowing this stuff since this is some of the first times playing with nitro 👍 Just ya know be careful and don't chop your fingers off or have the prop explode shrapnel into you
Thanks for the tips👍 that airplane engine would not run without the glow starter in it, i read it means the engine is running too rich but i could never get that engine tuned right. And i was aware there was a possibility of the prop exploding so i wore glasses when i was testing it. This was my first time using nitro engines and i really like them, i want to build an RC car now :D
UnitSe7en The power graph of an erpem of one of these has a distinct peak and most of the power is produced during 90 of its 360 degree rotation. Props have to be built to survive it. Reduction drives to a larger diameter prop is safer and far more efficient than direct drive, and the prop does't have to be as thick & heavy, relatively speaking.
As someone who used to fly remote control aircraft with those engines, this is extremely dangerous. But holy cow, that really slices carrots and celery really well!!
This reminds me of when on the show TopGear, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May would build V8 engine powered things like rocking chairs, blenders, and pencil sharpeners
I like how dangerous this channel gets. There's a teeny tiny bit of safety precaution, but let's face it... OSHA would probably not approve of a lot of it. The thin work glove and vegetable chopper with the hand getting uncomfortably close to the almost invisible blade made me nervous... but it's great in a rowdy, "hold my beer" kind of way. Great stuff!
Oh, my!, how innovative! Many years ago, (1960s to be exact), i mixed up some 2-cycle lawnmower fuel and used it in a model airplane engine. I had to anchor it with a small steel cable to a concrete block, and it dragged the block a short distance. I even went so far as to adjust the fuel/air mixture while it was running, and that airplane engine was literally screaming!
This guy's house would make an interesting setting for a horror film. Fighting off a Michael Myers type figure with a seemingly never ending supply of dangerous gadgets and tools.
I'm new to watching the channel. You are either very lucky or very careful not to have been seriously injured with your experiments. You are in my prayers and I'll keep watching. Keep up the good work!

I love it when people actually quantify what a small version of something would be like scaled up to normal size, it actually makes understanding how incredibly powerful something like that motor very easy.
well the scaling actually gives it a disadvantage, because it has x^3 as much stuff to work with, to turn x of a shaft
@ct9850 the square cube law is why there's no rhino sized ants
@@ct9850the ant would be much heavier proportionate to the size. As the dimensions of an object increase the size increases exponentially. This is why a 1ft cube is only 1/8 the size of a 2ft cube

It's not a slicer it's a vaporiser that helps you digest food on the tongue itself... Very innovative 👍👍
2 things, as long as the engine has the igniter on it it could sputter and chop your hand whenever you spin it at all, and 2nd you should probably use a nitro prop for the engine as they are thicker, and do not risk exploding at high rpm because of the pulses of power a nitro engine produces instead of the smoothness of an electric
Overall good video, and I say I blame you for not knowing this stuff since this is some of the first times playing with nitro 👍
Just ya know be careful and don't chop your fingers off or have the prop explode shrapnel into you
Thanks for the tips👍 that airplane engine would not run without the glow starter in it, i read it means the engine is running too rich but i could never get that engine tuned right. And i was aware there was a possibility of the prop exploding so i wore glasses when i was testing it. This was my first time using nitro engines and i really like them, i want to build an RC car now :D
Nothing to do with pulses in power delivery. It's just plain rippems.
UnitSe7en
The power graph of an erpem of one of these has a distinct peak and most of the power is produced during 90 of its 360 degree rotation. Props have to be built to survive it. Reduction drives to a larger diameter prop is safer and far more efficient than direct drive, and the prop does't have to be as thick & heavy, relatively speaking.

Who is that one dentist that recommended that toothbrush?
Oh, my!, how innovative! Many years ago, (1960s to be exact), i mixed up some 2-cycle lawnmower fuel and used it in a model airplane engine. I had to anchor it with a small steel cable to a concrete block, and it dragged the block a short distance.
