2:26 PROtip: so you don't get gouges at the end of a spot weld (like the one at the time stamp), either cut your metal with a little bit of excess in that area ( a small elephant's foot) or add a third piece of metal right at the end. In either method, you just grind the excess off or file it away with a small needle file.
Had the same issue with mine! Found the line under the intake manifold was leaking and allowing coolant in the oil but not oil in the coolant. I suspect the same for you… i fixed it by getting some copper tubbing from the local parts store and cutting it to length, sticking the copper tubing inside the flexible hose and made it a TIGHT fit. Never had any issues out of it again. Truck is looking amazing man! Do you have plans on trying to add their transmission to it when they come out with it?
I was surprised at the penetration of that small welder on such thin materials, it was spot on! Was that a pun? Anyway, I could watch this for hours. Thanks for sharing your skills with us. I’m off to see what your first video was.
I looked at another video of a guy playing with a small v12. The ignition coils gave up pretty fast. When he replaced them the engine ran a lot better then with the stock equipment.
As for regular car engines, pressure up the cooling system and see where it leaks... But here I suggest adding air to the system and using a squirt bottle with soapy water. If it's o rings, I find swapping between metric/sae sometimes has a slight variation in thickness so one sometimes solves a problem the other can't seal.
YES I’ve been waiting for this. Also, it sounds like it was missing on one or two cylinders, especially by how it was shaking. That’s probably caused by a blown head gasket considering the milky oil
Better head gasket and get some ties on those coolant hoses. Your pressure will build when at temp. Treat it like the real deal. Leak down test as well.
After you get your head gasket issue worked out, what would be awesome to see is you CNC'ing your own high lift, long duration cam for this thing so it'll have a crazy little lumpy idle and more power 😅🙏🏼🤣

small critique: adding the pickup tube to the radiator outlet guarantees an air bubble in the radiator, which will prevent complete filling of the radiator, and will reduce your total thermal conductivity, slightly. I would suggest getting rid of the pickup tube, and making sure you get the bubbles out.
The ASMR of those weld bud. mmhmm. So good. Flashes out, timing on point. +10 man points for engineering skills with another +10 for editing skills. Appreciate you.
i love how the radiator is 1.25 times the size of the motor itself edit: as someone who built a pc, with the radiator being vertical like that you can easily have it pull air and blow out pulling up instead of down
i JUST baught this cison v8 and i wanted to ask is it an absolute requirement to use anerobic glue for the wrist pins? i see AJ restorations didint and his runs fine
Ok, great project, I was just talking about somebody doing this! As for the oil issue, that's a pretty catastrophic leak for that short about of run time, I don't think it's a gasket or seal. 90% sure it's the coolant tube or fitting seal running under the intake manifold. Gotta have a clip on there, and make sure the fitting is sealed well. I thought I remember watching your build and not seeing you put a clip on. If you ran it at all without a vented overflow, it probably shot coolant right out. I spent a lot of time fixing coolant leaks at various spots in mine.
@johnnyq90 can you remove the oil pan and get a little pressure on the cooling system, to check where it is leaking? the engine has two lower o-rings? so both of them must be damaged. Sorry for my bad englisch, i hope you understand what i mean.
Blew a head gasket idling lol. Jkjk this is cool as hell plz post as soon as you drive it. Would be really cool to supercharger or centrifugal supercharge this little motor
When you complete this fully, on the last video showcasing it, can you show the whole process in one video? Like from building the engine, to this video, to the next video, and then the finished product?
Rock crawlers/trail trucks come from factory with more angle than that.. they'll be fine. Source: the 4 crawlers I have with 100+km of driving done with shafts at greater angles.
I don't know much on these but, I can tell you that if it's standard o rings then it's got to be that. The heat fluctuation and friction speed must be maintained by a proper o ring. Upgrade that first if no replys on it. It's either that or the engine needs actually gaskets as well. Just a guess.
Commercial diesel engines with wet sleeves will have a weep hole in the block between the pair of lower liner o-rings. When they start weeping it’s your indicator it’s time for a repair before it gets expensive.
I think he doesn't use a regular welder because those put down a really high voltage and those look like some really thin sheets of metal, so a regular welder could make holes în the metal

Hi I have just bought one of these, have you sorted the water getting into the oil? I believe you can get the high temp green O rings for the liners now, I have not looked to see what mine came with but in the instructions it suggests that you use the high temp green rings so I don’t understand why they don’t come with them 🤔 anyway I will look in the box and see what I have. Now that you have a spot welder you should take that V Twin engine and make an RC Trike. 👍👍

I think your Water in Oil Problem is a leak in the return line under the intake manifold. The O-Ring for the sleeves shout be heat resistent.
I checked it, as it was only a few bolts and it was not leaking from there unfortunately.

love the builds, but why not use a regular welder?
I think he doesn't use a regular welder because those put down a really high voltage and those look like some really thin sheets of metal, so a regular welder could make holes în the metal
Love the build. How did the water lone hold up that was sitting on the front right spring?
What would look sick would be bearings for the engine, so that the chassis would not vibrate with the motor.
I don‘t own such a model engine myself but I‘ve heard of many people whose cylinder sleeve gaskets needed replacing due to leaks.
that's so bad ass !!!
Might be time to invest in a small TIG welder
4into1 straight up stacks through the hood would be sick,
I don’t know what it was but I found the excessive amount of jump cuts while welding strangely irritating.
Yep. I skipped a lot and almost stopped watching.
Think it was to cut out the bright flashes
He put a lot of work into that so you didn't see the flash and could see outer forms and the colour temperature.
It was for your own good, he cut away the big spark moments. Those would have been way more irritating to watch.
