This is simply groovy vs technical. Both won in their own respects. The crossmen played a part meant to entertain, while the bluecoats played straight from their show.
+IamBetter ThanYou Don't hate on Crossmen. They work just as hard and put on incredible performances. And did u actually listen to them? They were actually really clean. And no high school line could play that. Granted I am a Bluecoats fan. But you have to give all the corps credit.
jesse pinkman Coats just used this as practice, because when I did drum line battle, the lower corps make actual battle cadences, whilst the higher end corps just play a lot of their show or exercises to keep the focus towards wining.
I cant say I respect an organization that shows up out of uniform plays with a met and plays with their instruments on stands, just comes off as snobby and them thinking theyre better.
Evan Patterson or their slips or drumline or the fact that there's four quints or the fact that rue Nani nahh is on there or the fact that Mike isn't center snare
It's very sad that players of this caliber have to resort to playing their show music for a drum line battle. This kind of show down was intended to feature "trek" music (cadence) so that more ensembles could be involved that perhaps did not have a strong wind program.
Josh Howell well it's actually useful because lucas oil stadium is where they have finals, so playing in there prior to finals is good to get used to the stadium sound.
Just about all of the comments are people saying technical stuff is better, and other guys saying the Crossmen won with 10 replies of people telling them they're stupid and Bloo won. I'm not arguing i'm just pointing this out.
The thing is BC only was in DLB to get more reps on Vortex and the feature. Honestly if you are serious about DLB, you probably arent in the top 10. Fact.
Even though I think Crossman won because they were a little more entertaining, The difficulty of the Blue Coats stuff is pretty crazy. Even playing the half notes that clean can be really difficult.
Hard to choose cuz i love Bluecoats this year but at the same time i like Crossmen this year too but since Crossmen had a better show in the battle, i had to go with Crossmen instead of Bluecoats but its a close battle though
+Jason Perez does it really bother you that bad? Is it going to be something that you lose sleep over? Does it really matter that much to you that we was giving them a tempo?
+Justin C yea I haven't slept since I saw this video. Lol. No seriously I think it looks bad. Let the kids lead and have fun. It's a drum line battle it's not part of their show. I think it looked pretty hideous. Just my opinion.
They win for the split 32's at 5:55 alone. Yeah a little dirty, but you never see that, or alternating 16th not flams, Bluecoats hands down, no contest!!
Lol Bluecoats just destroyed Crossmen. Crossmen was entertaining sure but the Tilt drum feature is just too badass I mean come on the snares, tenors, and basses all have such badass parts
Until you've learned and can play a lines music, don't say it's dirty or sloppy. Because they both are very good and have very difficult music to play.
Both of these lines were actually pretty dirty, unfortunately, but I do feel like Crossmen had the best sounding, cleaner beats. The Bluecoats just felt kind of all over the place
+Dan Cormany the technicality of their beats doesn't make his argument invalid. These are performers who achieve a higher standard for rudiments and are expected to play cleanly (which bloo did very well later in the season). The feature was quite a bit dirtier than many of their other run-throughs you can find on youtube.
although they were both pretty dirty, bluecoats won because they were cleaner, or less dirty. crossmen had little ticks and fuzzy spots everywhere even though they played more visually appealing licks.
I think the stuff Bloo did was a lot harder from a technical standpoint. I think the Crossmen were way more entertaining to watch though during this battle.
Complexity =/= better. Bloo's music was definitely more intricate than Xmen, but if you can't play clean, it doesn't matter how hard/easy it is. Crossmen got this for cleanliness and just generally being the better line.
i dont get why people even considering Crossmen to win that battle. Fair to say that BC only playerd their wamrup vortex and the drumfeature but honestl...from a professional point of view BC totally smashed crossmen in difficulty and they where a bit cleaner. Crossmen would get a solid 93-95 points in DCI while BC scratch at the top of the shelf
The Bluecoats obviously didn't care much about this. Their book was much more demanding and challenging. Not saying both aren't good drumlines, but this isn't a good way to compare.
Cleanliness is next to godliness sooo Bluecoats all the way! Plus everything bloo played was leaps and bounds more difficult than Grossman and did I mention they were clean...
I personnaly think that the Blue coats won this, due to the fact that their tenor players basically body slammed the Cross' tenor players. Difficulty was higher than the Cross' as well, and for me it's not how they sound, it's how difficult they're playing it, and as long as they're playing it good, they win that.
0:25 i don't know why but that part is so cool
Middle School beach party duh duh duh duh flip flops
At 3:38, the Center snare goes mental! The groove is just too damn good.
This is simply groovy vs technical. Both won in their own respects. The crossmen played a part meant to entertain, while the bluecoats played straight from their show.
+Chris Talbot fyi, both chunks crossmen played was from their show. Bit with the colorguard and tamborines was the actual drum feature
+Chris Talbot ^^^^Also Vortex was not part of their show (it was an in the lot groove), and it is still twice as hard as crossmen's show music.
Noooo, the split fell apart. . .
I hate to say it because I really love the Bluecoats, but the Crossmen won this one for sure.
Probably because the Bluecoats didn't really care😂😂😂
Well the bluecoats were playing one of their warm ups sooo
***** I agree. The Crossmen were playing a cool set, but the bluecoats were just so much tighter.
+IamBetter ThanYou
Don't hate on Crossmen. They work just as hard and put on incredible performances. And did u actually listen to them? They were actually really clean. And no high school line could play that. Granted I am a Bluecoats fan. But you have to give all the corps credit.
Dan Cormany Totally. It's not all about how hard the music is, after all. The way it's played matters a lot.
I don't give a rip who won, this is drumming at it's finest.
Yeah i saw that tick center snare! 3:02
Same
Jordan Ripley dang nice catch
i love bluecoats but....crossmen killed it
this event is supposed to be entertaining, and coats just weren't
jesse pinkman
Coats just used this as practice, because when I did drum line battle, the lower corps make actual battle cadences, whilst the higher end corps just play a lot of their show or exercises to keep the focus towards wining.
Christopher Chin you were in drumline battle? what corps did you march with?
I marched Mandarins since 07. Was going to do Devs this past year but auditions were on my birthday. :(
jesse pinkman I found them highly entertaining. But then, I prefer highly technical stuff to groovy stuff.
Bluecoats never disappoint and always represent. BLOOOO
dat cymbal line tho. killllling it.
Winter Gibbs lol RIP the 2019 cymbal line
It's not what you play. It's how you play it.
at 3:38 when the Bluecoats snare center started headbanging, it hyped me up!!
Coats killed it! Cleaner & more complicated. Hands down
Rip left quad... 3:57
I didn't notice it the first time through so he played it off well.
RIP TJ (Thats his name)
Joseph Adame love that profile pic tho
3:31 foreshadow for the 2016 bluecoats snare feature?!?!?!?
I think the Crossmem beat the bluecoats tbh
Plus the Crossman were wearing full uniform
That got them so brownie points
Needs more cowbell.
Dog885 lol
after 4 years. it took you to get to 100 years, youre welcome.
Vortex has seriously gotta be the most badass grove out there I can't get enough of it
I cant say I respect an organization that shows up out of uniform plays with a met and plays with their instruments on stands, just comes off as snobby and them thinking theyre better.
What met? Those are just snares.
They didnt use it in this one but theres other videos where they use mets.
But they are better lol
It's just drums. You're thinking too hard man. Lol
They are better and there was no met in this one. Bluecoats 2014 drumline was insane. Don't ever diss them
Also, did anyone else notice crossmen's feature sounded like a college cadence?
I could tell when this was from because of Bloo's feature
Evan Patterson or their slips or drumline or the fact that there's four quints or the fact that rue Nani nahh is on there or the fact that Mike isn't center snare
It's very sad that players of this caliber have to resort to playing their show music for a drum line battle. This kind of show down was intended to feature "trek" music (cadence) so that more ensembles could be involved that perhaps did not have a strong wind program.
World corps don't have time to prepare stuff for DLB. They want to focus on the show. You know, the thing that actually matters.
Josh Howell well it's actually useful because lucas oil stadium is where they have finals, so playing in there prior to finals is good to get used to the stadium sound.
They rehearse on an indoor field prior to finals. I think they would have been fine without this.
im sorry bluecoats... the split singles was so dirty.. not trying to down talk them b/c i know i could never do that
Nothin better than clean rim shots
Wait, the Crossmen had color guard. That's cheating.
Just about all of the comments are people saying technical stuff is better, and other guys saying the Crossmen won with 10 replies of people telling them they're stupid and Bloo won. I'm not arguing i'm just pointing this out.
I
Believe
Just
Have
Just a random trombone player passing through, nothing to see here.
jason douthit Yeah... I play clarinet and bass clarinet. Why am I even watching DCI?
You're coming to your senses and want to switch to brass. ;P
It's because drumline is awesome :)
I'll tag along
Same
I don't think any drumline could touch them that year. Or any years after so far. Still the best in my books
agreed. but with me its the Bluecoats all the way because their dl features this were great
Abdul Muhammad santa clara vanguard
The thing is BC only was in DLB to get more reps on Vortex and the feature. Honestly if you are serious about DLB, you probably arent in the top 10. Fact.
Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
Taylor McBride FACT they were top ten, and they were arguably one of the better drumlines this year
Ryan Slayton Sorry man. 12th in drums; 12th overall. AK and Rothe don't lie.
Ryan Slayton I will say this again, if you are serious about DLB you probably aren't in the top ten. Fact.
Taylor McBride Who says we were serious about DLB. No corps cares. Its more of a burden if anything.
Even though I think Crossman won because they were a little more entertaining, The difficulty of the Blue Coats stuff is pretty crazy. Even playing the half notes that clean can be really difficult.
came back in time and is 1:52 something Broken City played this year?
I think you’re thinking of twitch that broken city played but at 1:52 they’re playing vortex
5:35 was the Bluecoats drum feature in their show that year
+clark bolding thanks.
Soooo many notes, in such small spacessss. 😱
Cymbal line was so sick.
Cymbals where kickin' some serious ass!
I got the jitters as soon as I heard 5:37
Hard to choose cuz i love Bluecoats this year but at the same time i like Crossmen this year too but since Crossmen had a better show in the battle, i had to go with Crossmen instead of Bluecoats but its a close battle though
Tocam de mais os caras vey... foda👌
Crossman won one!
Blue coats were amazing.
Why the f*ck do the bluecoats have their tech counting them off?? It's a drum battle, This isn't the lot!!
Give them a tempo...
+Justin C that's what a tap-off is for...
+Justin C and the tempo is established with a tap off. You didn't see crossmens tech out there clicking his sticks to "give them a tempo".
I have a dumb question. Why don't the vibes ever play along with the drumline? To me the vibes seems like part of the percussion.
Brian O vibes are apart of pit
Pit is a part of percussion, too.
The reason you don't see vibes here is because this is a drumline battle, not a percussion battle.
Bluecoats crammed a ton of notes in there but I think Crossmen had more fun with it and that's what music's about.
Thumbs up for the Richard Ramos hair wobble spectacular.
When they count off, it sounds like they are saying "duck"
Should've tried this with the bones line of 91.
I've marched there before!
I'm a huge sucker for the vortex
Exhilarating!
Nice choice starting out with vortex jesus
3:36 LMAO RICHARD
Is that the alamo dome?
+juan botero Yes
The thing coats don’t have - cymbals and tambourine maidens ! if this were the 91 /92 cross-men line been long over for both lines
They win for the split 32's at 5:55 alone. Yeah a little dirty, but you never see that, or alternating 16th not flams, Bluecoats hands down, no contest!!
Joey B Banks They're 16's
Lol Bluecoats just destroyed Crossmen. Crossmen was entertaining sure but the Tilt drum feature is just too badass I mean come on the snares, tenors, and basses all have such badass parts
I wish more drum lines used crash cymbals these days. It just add so much to the sound. I hope corps start bringing them back
Scv still uses them
Didn't bluecoats have 5 tenors?
+austin morphew for 2015. this is the 2014 season
Sry bloo, but a warmup and your show-drumfeature..??? Really? No point from me!
***** they didnt
They did.Alex Adams
Alex Adams We did.
***** Go Bones!
Alex Adams actually, we did.
lol damn i love the bluecoats but that split was rally dirty...im shocked hearing that from them haha
Until you've learned and can play a lines music, don't say it's dirty or sloppy. Because they both are very good and have very difficult music to play.
Center snare 3:02
Crazy Quacker unfortunately seen -_-
Both of these lines were actually pretty dirty, unfortunately, but I do feel like Crossmen had the best sounding, cleaner beats. The Bluecoats just felt kind of all over the place
I don't think so. Both lines played really clean. I mean, try and play their music and then u can talk.
Ernesto Aguirre it felt out of the place because the beats are really weirdly placed, but still on beat. haha sounds weird but it's fucking hard to do
Lets go Blue Coats !!!!! my favs man...
Hmm...hotter tambourine players, Crossmen or Blue Devils...
*Bluecoats
jovan joseph
Blue Devils*. Watch their 2014 show
This is turning into WGI really fast, like jesus christ guys, save it for the winter.
Nothing wrong with WGI, don't know what your problem is.
Connor Fitzgerald Problem is, it isn't WGI. Check out Jersey Surf vs. Blue Devils B. Devs got what a drumline battle should be imo
I don't know if Bluecoat's played a warm up that was still clean it could have sounded like a cadence
although they were both pretty dirty, bluecoats won because they were cleaner, or less dirty. crossmen had little ticks and fuzzy spots everywhere even though they played more visually appealing licks.
LOL. Center snare at 3:37. :)
I think the stuff Bloo did was a lot harder from a technical standpoint. I think the Crossmen were way more entertaining to watch though during this battle.
Think cross was more entertaining, but it is impressive that the coats have Jeffery Lebowski as their instructor.
Bloo. Just clean!
blue coats for shure
bluecoats won that for sure
+michael gronholm I hope you being sarcastic they lost they clearly didn't prepare.
+Don Brun how did they not prepare?
+Danny Brown crossmen literally just played showmusic xD at least the coats had an exercise. also the bangers are a way better battery than crossmen
Dang, the Bluecoats got so many boos. I guess you could call them the, Boo-coats! I'll just let myself out.
Oh.
You know the Crossmen won when everyone feels the need to apologize to the blue coats for not being as good
I think the true battle is between Dynasty and Yamaha brands😂 I’m going with Dynasty🥁
Macey Donaldson ? They both have Yamaha
Complexity =/= better. Bloo's music was definitely more intricate than Xmen, but if you can't play clean, it doesn't matter how hard/easy it is. Crossmen got this for cleanliness and just generally being the better line.
Mmmm, dem Crossmen cymbals.
Crossmen were much flashier and visual, although the bluecoats showed more skill and discipline. go bloo
i dont get why people even considering Crossmen to win that battle.
Bluecoats won I going to tell you this right now
should of been done in the lot rather than the field, still pretty cool though.
Coats!!!
The Bluecoats obviously didn't care much about this. Their book was much more demanding and challenging. Not saying both aren't good drumlines, but this isn't a good way to compare.
Blood won but the creativity goes to Crossmen
The crossmen killed it here
Cleanliness is next to godliness sooo Bluecoats all the way! Plus everything bloo played was leaps and bounds more difficult than Grossman and did I mention they were clean...
DEM BONES QUADS THOUGH
Coats are wayyy cleaner, less funky, but cleaner for surr
Crossmen and it's not even close!
Shouldn't have used Vortex, its just not battle material bloo.
this isnt even fair
CROSSMEN ABSOLUTELY KILLED!!!!
If bc took this seriously they would have absolutely destroyed crossmen, but they didn't so I'll have to give this one to crossmen.
+nathan edwards Me too, they did have a really hard show so I think they were mostly caught up with than rather than anything else.
No way Crossmen won that! No tie here, come on people.
Gotta give it to the cross
Lol blue coats were playing their warm up
Coats drumline got better compared to that year. Crossmen went down a little : /
I think Bluecoats' coach has an attachment issue, lol.
I personnaly think that the Blue coats won this, due to the fact that their tenor players basically body slammed the Cross' tenor players. Difficulty was higher than the Cross' as well, and for me it's not how they sound, it's how difficult they're playing it, and as long as they're playing it good, they win that.
It's not what you play. It's how you play it
Coats
BLOOOOO!
