@@MayYourGodGoWithYou top secret isn’t even in the top 20 man… they are very famous on UA-cam for sure, but they are just a show line. That’s all they are… for show. In the drumline community, they are known as a meme. They play drums mediocre at best. They don’t play or March anything near as musically clean/difficult or demanding as some others I’ve seen. The best way to describe them is this: you have Mumble Rap and Jazz. Mumble rap is by far much more popular and recognized but compared to Jazz, it’s complete garbage music. Top secret is mainstream garbage while the real lines and musicians don’t get recognized.

@@TopDrumCorps I suspect you are either referring to military bands or university type ones like the Texas Fighting Aggies or something, which are proclaimed to be the best marching band in the world {far from but hey ho].
Drummers DO NOT have to be ones who march, that is generally reserved for drummers within larger bands eg the RM drummers are part of the RM band, or the drummers in the Royal Scots are part of the Pipes and Drums although both play on their own at times. The Blue Devils or whatever they''re called certainly didn't do any marching and their drum stick work was slovenly compared to the Top Secret drummers. But each to their own, I thoroughly enjoy watching the Top Secret Drummers [who don't only perform in Europe but given that is where they live and work - important, no work = no income - then it isn't surprising that most of their performances are on that continent. They don't have huge wealthy backers, they do what they do because they love it and they pay their way themselves and have to fit practices in around their civilian lives. They can't be compared to military bands in respect to marching etc but they are actually every bit as good when it comes down simply to drumming, and have performed with the best at various events.

@@MayYourGodGoWithYou I’m not referring to College bands or military bands. So your whole argument is already out the window. Those are also show lines that are just for football crowds and such. and just for show…. Minus The Hellcats and the North Texas snare/quad ensembles. Those are still top tier. But I’m referring to DCI Lines. The fact that you don’t know what DCI or WGI is, already tells me you know nothing about the marching percussion. The Blue Devils they played with are not the real blue devils anyways. That’s the international line. Also the fact you just said “marching drum stick work” is so cringe. Nobody who actually knows what they are talking about would ever say that😂😂

I haven't commented much on the drumming, but as a Drummer myself, who has been playing for over 60 years (yes, the hands still work at 71) I was just happy to be in Basel when I was. The fact that they let me record (on my phone) has helped a lot of people. The town was FULL of all sorts of bands, and they were lucky to find a ware house where they could practice. I've had thousands of followers and echo or not, most people appreciate what happened. I even had a company offer my $$ in case someone wants to use it in advertising or "something" The worst thing is that I had to leave the morning of the first real show, but I left happy that I got to see the get together, and the practice the night before. Most importantly, none of them realize these are two of the best drum corps in the world. The Blue Devils have been a winning force in the US since the 1970's. They have won at least three national championships each decade since 1970. And Top Secret is, well Top Secret! They are phenomenal.

Talk about serendipity!! UA-cam somehow placed this video in my feed when I was watching videos of my former fife and drum corps- Guilford, Connecticut's Ancient Mariners (traditionally full of former Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps members), in anticipation of the Deep River Ancients Muster. I've been a big fan of drum and bugle corps also (I miss you so badly, North Star!!), so was absolutely thrilled to see something by The Blue Devils (I should mention: I'd never heard of Top Secret before). Within two minutes of opening this video, my jaw hit the floor!! I was absolutely blown away by the immeasurable talent the two of these corps have!!! And I used to think Opus was challenging!
A couple of weeks ago, I was at an outdoor concert at The Company of Fifers and Drummers Museum in Ivoryton, CT to hopefully see some of my old friends from The Old Guard playing in Confluence, an ensemble of current and former Old Guard members. Well, needless to say, I felt like an old fart because they now had WOMEN in The Old Guard (woohoo!! and did they kick some MAJOR ASS with their talents!!) and they were ALL young enough for me to be their Mum! Ugh! When their unbelievably beautiful, complex, finely finely finely executed, wonderfully written (many tunes written and/or arranged by my dear friend I'm so proud of John Ciaglia and his cohort in crime Greg Bacon- a match made in heaven there!!) music was over, I went to speak with a few of Confluence's immensely talented players.
The serendipitous part: I was speaking with amazingly talented snare drummer Mark Reilly and asked him if he'd "ever seen this amazing video with The Blue Devils and The Top Secret Drum Corps?" He nonchalantly replies "I was in Top Secret." You could've freaking knocked me over with a feather, if my dropped jaw wasn't anchoring me so securely!!! I was floored! I had to really control myself to not do one of those Elaine Benis from Seinfeld get-outta-here doublehanded pushes to the poor guy. He undoubtedly had the talent to be in the corps. He started telling me about how he toured with them and played for Kings of different countries, all over the world, and even had an audience with the Pope (to whom he gave an Old Guard pin). He showed me some pix on his phone of Top Secret's shows (firsthand with the Pope!!), some Old Guard photos (sorry, they still deeply touch my heart), and some Confluence pix- I wanted to steal that boy's phone, just to look at all the beautiful pix! I did have him send me a gorgeous pic of The Old Guard on the Lawn!
OMG, I want to live my (no vacation in 36 years) life vicariously through this young man!!! He's lived the adventures of a thousand lifetimes, and he's still so very young. I was absolutely amazed at his talent, deeply impressed by his grandiose plans for organizing all the world's government bands so they'll know about and learn from each other (Denmark's piccolo and drum corps was there for the Ivoryton concert)- I have the utmost confidence he'll achieve this goal!!, and wicked happy for his dreams of his future with The Old Guard. If I were his Mum, I'd have a guaranteed seat in heaven at the right hand of The Man for giving the world such an amazing son! She done good!! And Mark has even bested her. An amazing man to meet so serendipitously! Go buy Confluence's albums- you won't ever be sorry, even if you overpay for them...worth every penny. And try to see them live- you'll think you died, went to Heaven and came back, all in a single afternoon! A big thanks to The Company of Fifers and Drummers Museum for hosting Confluence!! Please support the Museum in any way you can- they preserve, promote and honor the fife and drum corps' history and future. Take my word for it- that's a very beautiful thing!!

It's no surprise that the Swiss would be awesome precision drummers. I was an exchange student to Switzerland when I was in high school and one night my host father asked me which train I planned to take the next morning. I said "The 8 o'clock train." He said "There is no 8 o'clock train." I said "Yes, there is. I looked it up on the schedule." He said "There is no 8 o'clock train!" and proceeded to pull out the schedule. He goes "Aha! See! I told you! No 8 o'clock train!" The train was at 8:02. I've never met such precision-obsessed people in my life.

RE: Respect: Agreed. (The following is with respect to, and on respect, and is rhetorical, more or less):
Yet how can the people of the U.S. general public know how to properly interact with each other without ever having been taught or shown how? How are they to recognize a difference where there’s so little frames of reference to be found in our society anywhere? American culture, especially within schools, fosters quite the opposite to shaking hands and cooperating. Maybe while in class or at practice manners are recognized and half-used if it’s under a somewhat decent Principal or staff. This however, is not common behavior though as soon as ones leaves that very proper forum if that. I played sports year around too and trust me, once the coach’s eyes turn away and he’s not within ear shot the remarks and comments describing how individuals can treat each other is unbelievable. And it wasn’t their fault. Every aspect of our culture teaches bad behavior.
I’d challenge anyone to simply turn on your television and count how many seconds it took for either the program (perfect noun for what it is) the advertisement airing at that exact moment, or especially news coverage, before the time it took before witnessing any of one theme which reflects or that can in any way be referenced as: overly competitive or exclusive, about pride, cut throat in nature but by way of man, violent (this isn’t always obvious), us vs. them, keeping up with the Jones’, meant to play on one’s fear factors, idolization of youth-centricity, subliminally or straight up discriminating/racist, and/or is marginalizing by the objectification of women. For most everyone any of these themes should be apparent as soon as the tv screen powers up. And if not, I’m going to guess that for others it shouldn’t take very long, even a few seconds, and bet that zero will find that they can clock just one second more than 30.
For those who wouldn’t count that sports game or the show COPS then it saddens me, although I expect that, the majority or at least great number of those who would fail to see the reality of how dangerous these exclusively focused lifestyle themes are when they are overly saturated in our lives above anything else. For a person to have difficulty in being able to recognize the reasoning against this form of American propaganda is by way, of course, of the very effects of conditioning intended by this sublime slime. Grossly, it’s because it is in fact working and doing what it is supposed to by effectively making our brains normalize this so we miss how harmful by-products of this cultural conditioning are. As soon as the programming effects behind these exclusively negative lifestyles which we’re consistently sold and fed have on us set in as normal to us and with its tireless and never-ending continuity, we will rarely if ever be able to identify this and connect our own human behavior as consequences to its drastic effects.
Is it hopeless for a society like ours to recover from the awful effects already in play daily in the world on sought by the incessant, degrading, and mindless culture set deliberately by faceless corporations with the sole purpose of achievement by their executives in personal gain by capitalizing on people who they see only as a specific dollar amount of potential money to attain from, or as nothing more than but a replaceable cog from a never-ending human resource supply of society’s youth to use to work as drastically underpaid support in part for their corporate, political, institutional, or other-based gluttony?

I'm from the fife and drum corps world (40+ years) and hail from The Ancient Mariners in Guilford, Connecticut, but have dipped into the drum and bugle scene for many, many years. The (now disbanded) North Star (North Shore, Boston, MA) and the Concord, California Blue Devils were my favorite corps for quite a few of those years! The only corps I had known from Basel though, was our sister fife and drum corps, The Swiss Mariners. I knew the (record highest DCI scoring) Blue Devils put out decades of top shelf DCI shows, but this Top Secret Corps drumline from Basel is so tight they're worthy competition!! I'd love to hear them during Fasnacht Basel! If you think the reverb in that hangar is magic, go hear them play on the mountainsides!! God, I loved this video!!!!
