  • In this video, Casey Cooper takes me through some of the standout features of the new Alesis Strata Prime. While a video covering ALL the features of this kit would take several hours, this was my very first introduction to the Strata Prime, and my genuine reactions to learning about the features of the kit. Enjoy!

    Amazing kit! I was just recently blessed with the purchase of this kit.
    Few things to note, from my experience.
    Mounting the toms with the L bracket seen here, in the video, wasnt stable enough for me. Tightening them tight enough to stay just seemed like the clamp would brake. So i lowered the bar about an inch from the bass drum. That way i could now have the drum over the bracket like the instructions state. This is my experience.
    Tighten the wing nut on the snare, if its loose youll hear it and will likely be confused of where the sound is coming from.
    The cymbals to spin so have your cord to each cymbal attached with either, the wire holders that come with the kit or wire ties, like the ones that come with a loaf of bread.
    The hihat is a little wobbly, I wrapped a piece of eletrical tape to the hihat threaded connector. Example, at the bottom of the hihat cymbal threaded connector there is a nut then the cymbal pad then a good amount of space on the threaded part. Above this is another pad then to 2 nuts. Put the tape right before the top pad and nuts. It fills in the space between the bolt and cymbal enough to stable it better.
    I adjusted the tension on all the heads, from factory they arent bad but a little inconsistent, meaning some are way tighter then others.
    I have the tama soeed cobra double pedals. The mount for the bass drum on the pedal is not center, it is more to the right of the pedal. When tightening the pedal down it lifts the pedal up off the ground on the right side. Now if i wasnt wanting the pedal beaters center to the bass drum head then it wouldnt be an issue, but ofcourse i do. I could only clamp it down loosely as a compromise. This isnt a faught of alesis.
    There was 2 instances that the drum moduscreen went black then came back on and said, drum module recovered from an internal error. Once it came back, roughly 10 seconds it was back to normal. Haven't looked into why or what caused it. Id have to contact Alesis on tha
    Just some tips for whomever has this or future owners.
    The Stata has exceeded my expectations! The dynamics are as real as acoustic drums and zero hot spotting. Just fantastic! Sounds, perfect! Feel is amazing!
    Thanks

    Wow Adam, your knowledge of drums and the thoughts you have really hit home. Especially when you mentioned the sounds of the toms not sounding like a normal MIDI recording, but rather they recorded different velocity layers that capture the "growl" of the note.
    Shows how well you can review and provide insight to not just the sounds but also for the rest of us to learn what other reviewers have not mentioned. You're my favourite reviewer of this so far!

    Just picked up this module, it's very impressive. Still love the pearl mimic, but the Strata has potential to overthrow it with some future updates (ie. Needs More trigger presets and pad support, multi layer sample import, more midi controls) 🤘

      Were you able to purchase just the module, or was this as part of the entire kit? The module, snare, hi-hat and cymbals would appeal to me - Roland offers a similar upgrade package for the TD-50X. I have no interest in acquiring a 20" X 12" "bass drum' that's just an overblown trigger holder.

      Thanks my friend! I honestly don’t know if the Prime includes play alongs. I suspect not, as that’s often considered a “beginner feature”
      But I know you can definitely load your own tracks into the module and/or use Bluetooth for jam them from your phone.
      If you’re in need of some drumless tracks, shoot me an email at Adam@OrlandoDrummer.com and I’ll hook you up with a few loop packs! I have several hundred of them available on my site.
      In the meantime I’ll do some research on the Prime’s ability to send play along tracks through your headphones. Definitely a necessary feature!

    Been watching your Double bass pedal tutorials, nice man. Have you ever played a VAD706? They are on sale right now, big discounts. Which would you go for if you had the money to burn? Alesis Strata Prime at 3500 or VAD706 at 5000

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  Місяць тому

      Glad you like the double bass series! I have not played the VAD706, but I’m generally not a fan of the full acoustic sizes in electronic applications. That kit also retails for $8000. At well over double the price of the Strata Prime, I would pick the Alesis all day. The touch screen module is also way more user friendly in my opinion, as opposed to learning 20+ fixed knobs and buttons on the Roland.

      The VAD706 is retailing brand new for 5000 at the moment in my area which is the main reason for consideration. With that price drop what do you think?

    Adam, you can make a brick and hubcaps sound like a million bucks! So awesome! I was waiting for you to take off the 12” tom, just not used to you playing with 2 rack toms! So I have the Alesis Strike SE Pro kit, it’s a great e-kit and have no complaints except the hihats which are an absolute nightmare. So bad I replaced it with the Roland VH hihats and trigger which seemed to solve the issue, but the new 360 cymbals on this kit are definitely a massive improvement from the cymbals and hihat on the SE Pro. So now the question is do I sell the SE Pro for this new Alesis Strata kit or continue to get by with the SE pro. The brain/screen on the Strata is definitely leap years ahead of the SE but the drums themselves are really no different than the Strike SE. I still prefer playing my DW collectors kit and real cymbals but situations like playing in churches lend itself better to the e-kits. Thank for the video and still praying for your little one, she is a gift from God!

      @@mochs3869100% agree! I love the pads/drums, love the red sparkle color and the interface is fairly easy to get around, but Alesis cymbals are just awful, especially the hihats. I’ve gone through so many guys on UA-cam who supposedly have the magic “answer” for the hihat problems, but none of them work. I’ve played plenty of e-kits going back to the Simmons SDS-5, I’ve had Dynacord, Roland’s original V-kit, a Roland TD-25 and now the Alesis Strike Pro SE and definitely feel Alesis blew it on the hihats and cymbals for the SE, if I could offload my SE Pro to Alesis and get credit towards the purchase of the Strada I would consider it, I want to support Alesis and continue to buy their products but I kind of feel the cymbals and hihats are lemons. As you said maybe to keep those of us who shelled out the $$$$ for the SE pro they could offer a trade in/trade up to get the Strada cymbals

    I've watched a bunch of reviews, and one question I have is with the setup of the rack toms. some people don't like the toms over the bass drum, but rather shifted to the drummer's left, same as the placement between two bass drums. I'm sure the rack can be moved around to accommodate this, but it looks like you might have to make some compromises.

    • @AdamTuminaro
      @AdamTuminaro  Місяць тому +2

      That’s likely going to be a challenge with any e-kit, but I would guess that the size of the rack is the biggest determining factor. As the Strata Prime is definitely “full size” I wouldn’t imagine you’d have any issues with Tom placements, though there will be plenty of fine tuning you’ll have to do.

      That would actually be sick! I have almost every computer in my house and studio tied to a secondary monitor via HDMI. I would guess that doing this with drum modules is challenging due to the lack of RAM and/or CPU power. But secondary monitors that you could place around the kit is a killer idea.
      Of course that’s just for monitoring… the idea of a 2nd monitor that is also responsive via touchscreen is WAY more challenging. Have to spend some time thinking about that one! 👊🏼
