I got an email about this kit and showed my daughter. Went to Guitar Center a few days later and they had one setup, double kick and all. My daughter about lost her mind. I'm going to have to buy her this set to upgrade her cheap Donner. She wanted to play drums, taught herself, and practices daily. I think this is well worth the cost for a serious drummer who can't have an acoustic set.
Thats a huge upgrade bruh
@@RedDragonZ81 this is half the price of the Roland I was looking at. She’s super serious and practices everyday. It’s worth the investment to me.
@@FloeticEnigma Personally I'd go with Roland since Alesis tends to cut corners in places, But they're both probably great kits. It's just I've had bad experiences with Alesis, Like cymbals failing and stuff. (Since they're made in china) While it won't be as nice as a Roland kit, it'll be one heck of an upgrade from that donner lol.
If price is the problem, Yamaha has some great stuff too that's in the price range of the Strata Prime. The DTX8, The thing about Roland and Yamaha is, You don't get as much as alesis, But most of the time it's higher quality stuff.
@@Electro_Drums the first kit I bought was a $900 Alesis, but the kick drum didn’t work right, so I took it back and ordered the Donner. So you saying that makes me want to rethink this…. I have time though. I have a few months before I do her upgrade. The one on display in our local Guitar Center has all the extras she wants, so she’s sold on it. I’m gonna do more research before I drop this much money. Thanks
I know it's about the e-kit but daamnn that Pearl kit sounds amazing! Amazing job recording it!
I can't understand why people here are upset that the Alesis doesn't sound as good as a real Pearl next to it. If you want the same sounds from the Pearl as you can hear here, you need microphones, cables for the microphones, a mixer and various effects units in addition to the Pearl kit. And I think you'll have to spend more than 3,500 Dollars or Euros for that. So stop comparing apples with nuts. If you want to play acoustic drums, buy one. If you want to play an electronic drum kit, buy one. This constant comparing, the constant chatter that this or that sounds better or is better... what's the point?
Tastes are different. Have fun in life, make good music, live and love your life! By the way, I think the Strata Prime is great and I'm going to buy one soon. Why? Because I like it, because I think it's good. Do it well guys!
Alot of us only play electric because of noise levels. We'd all love to bash full acoustics but not feasible on a daily basis. I can play 10 times more than my acoustics. I actually converted my acoustic Ludwig set to electric and I love it
Mimic pro let you have multiple effects per microphone and sounds way way more natural
Haters = idiots
@@hellofx yep!😉
@@hellofx Actually I am a professional drummer I play on the mimic and I've been using an Alesis strike pro on live performances for years so I do know what I'm talking about.
Every apartment-dwelling-metal-bro trying to return this kit after a week when it doesn't make them sound like J-rod: 👁👄👁
Can't wait to offer them half price
This kit is on the top of my list of considerations. It’s the only one I’ve tried in person & I was blown away. I have not heard any other e-kit that has not had the machine running gunning effect and this Alesis kit kept up with this amazing drummer.
These kits are sounding really good. The triggers specially the cymbals and high hat makes it a great selling point... Im not a great drummer but from a strike kit, id upgrade to this.
Saw Samus and El Estepario Siberiano review this kit as well and it’s GENUINELY impressive
That snare and those toms sound amazing! Wow
Insane sound on that acoustic kit, great kit, mics, tuning, mix and...player!
Hey man! I love your videos! I’ve been watching your vids since the Linkin Park “Numb” cover (so about 10 years). Since then I started playing drums and 3-4 years ago started playing at my church youth group and on weekends. You’re a huge inspiration to me and a lot of other drummers! Thank you for giving me so much joy through your drumming!
AHHHHHHHH, man ive been looking for a good e-kit for a long time. it looks likes the level of dynamics in a hobby-ish level costing kit is amazing. it'll take all my credit cards, and a bit a saving, but i cant wait. im so stoked.
sir JRod!! the Alesis sounds nice
These kits are getting good!
Best collab ever !
Me: I wonder if this is a decent eKit... * sees JRod slip out an occasional smile while playing * I guess so!
That's some tasty playing. Nice!
He really lost the stick and kept rolling around the kit that’s Impressive🔥
Alesis finally do it right! Really hope they come out with a cut down version of rhe module
I love this kit and brand of alesis but im unsure of the cymbals....that peatl kit sounded amazing and it illustrated how tiny the cybals sounded
can always just boost the volume of the cymbals on the Strata ;)
Thanks for the video! Love the playing 😀 I am not impressed with the kit sounds tbh, sounds are not up to par with the price tag.
Absolutely incredible but why did they go from 8 individual outs for recording to 4??? I keep harping on this but its a dealbreaker for me. A MAJOR hinderance from a serious tracking / mixing perspective which i what i mainly use my SE for. All in ALL though this is a game changer for 95% of drummers that DO NOT need this capability.
I agree with Allen. 8 outs to 4 is a big loss. It took me some 4 mths since I bought my strike pro se kit to get 100% confident in using it for live work and the 8 outs have been crucial to that for better live mixing control and for my home recording. But ... I am going to say this here ... in the UK the customer support is shocking. Weeks for an email to be answered, my local drum shop trying to contact the rep via telephone went unanswered many times over. The inbrand "ticketing service" is poor at best. I've had two toms fail and the hi hat has always been a known issue (I watched Allens vids on this to get help by the way which was a big help 👍) and I think one the the hats edge trigger is now failing as well and no amount of tweaking triggers envelopes, sensitivity, logs etc is helping. To try and get this resolved with Alesis is like pulling teeth. They dont seem to want to know and to me at least, they appear to be deliberately running down the warranty period so they dont have to get involved and hence leave me on my own. Im not an Alesis hater by the way .. overall, I love the se pro, so much so that I actually own two kits and 3 racks and Ive bought 2 x extra 12" toms, one for each kit so I have my preferred 3 up and 2 down set up. One kit is in our studio, and one kit at my home with the third rack fully set up with tom clamps and cymbal holders, harnessed with the loom and mixer multicore, folded and living in my garage ready to put straight into my car to gig. So Alesis ... if you are watching ... why is your customer support so bad in the UK and WHY should I remain loyal and therefore consider an "upgrade" to this?? Strata Prime looks an interesting kit and the biggest way forward is the hats, there is a loss of a cymbal as well as the outputs, but now has a nice new module. Some you lose, some you win I guess. But, it makes me wonder if there will be a "special" version due out in the future with these missing extras added but thats for another time. So, where is the support and the loyalty to existing customers. By the way, one kit I bought end of last June '23 and the second bought September '23 so both kits are less than 12mths old and well within their "warranty" period. Its the younger kit that has the toms failure and the older kit with hi hat issues. Electronic build quality issues are most definately apparent but the hardware itself is holding up well. Anyway, I wonder if by some miracle an Alesis representative will see this and make contact at some point?? Im sure these guys watch the major reviews like this one. Videos Ive seen point to poor, thin and "not fit for purpose" wiring but surely it shouldn't be my job to open up and investigate this when there is clearly a warranty in place. Anyone else had similar issues on such a young kit?
To get a really good sound from the prime kit I think that it must be connected to good sound system with stereo speakers with some equi to get the punch of the bass drum and the clarity and the cutting sound of the cymbals, this audio sound of the Alexis does not sound good to me.
JRod. yessir yessir.
They both sounds great. The real kit on it's own sounds amazing. The combination of the close shell mics and the room are giving it a low end that just can't be matched.
That being said, this will create issues when trying to drop that into a dense mix with other instruments. The alesis sounds more mix ready. With the ability to change the sounds individually this gives you a ton of control. The E-kit lacks that big low end resonance the real kit has. The alesis will probably drop into a dense mix easier, and quicker with a few tweaks compared to the real kit. The rewards from treating/mixing a real kit though are just unmatched, though.
If you had the control of additona;l outputs on the strata you could make it sound BETTER than the acoustic kit in the studio. However... ALesis cut back on the individual outs making the separation in the studio not really possible.
@@AllenLind Absolutely! The real kit will take time and experience to make sound great, and the reward is worth it! However with the content world we live in now, getting new material out quickly is crucial!
First of all I just wanna say I just started watching your videos a few weeks ago and think you're an awesome drummer. I've got a huge request. I wanna see you play Don't Forget Me by RHCP please.
Finally an Alesis kit that deserves respect, but most drummers won’t sound as good as J-Rod on it!
Nice! Have you guys tried a Roland VAD507 or TD27KV2 and how do you think it compares to the Alesis?
Both are great kits, the 27kv2 is awesome with great feel from the digital cymbals. That would have been my pick before playing this kit. I feel it performs similarly in response and feel, but far outperforms Roland with a more immersive and capable module and the more enjoyable sizes and configuration of the kit.
Nice one! Both seem like great kits, I guess the main thing for me is Roland Digital hats/snare/ride vs this kit. So I'm stuck between the VAD507 or this kit! Why can't choosing be easy lol@@COOP3RDRUMM3R
@@COOP3RDRUMM3R i have the td27kv with sd3 and it is etter than this alesis kit in your video honestly due to digital mapping
@@TimothyMichael there is no alternative to SD3 with some of the highend libraries, its miles ahead!
The Alesis is better by far, especially at that price. In Canada this Alesis is $5000. The VAD507 is $7000
Hell yeah 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yo😂I used to watch your covers and I just started listening to J’s music off ig, he cold.
Alesis seems to have knocked it out of the park with this one
Not for the money, though. You could buy a Roland TD-27 or any of the high-end Yamaha electronic kits.
@@DrummerGrrrl Roland sounds are stuck in the 90s. Same with their user interface.
Pearl still wins(for now)., butt give it another 5 years and see how much technology progresses., consider e-drums from 10 years ago to present., and remember too you can play the Alesis kit till 3 in the morning and come recording time the edrums will “always” give you consistent sound quality no mic set up needed for the amateur recordings .
Just my opinion, but, I think for the amount of money it's been a real slow evolution / progression. I don't hear anything hear that would make me pay $3500+ over attaching triggers to a cheap acoustic kit or triggering pro drum sample software with a cheap e-kit.
If you hook this kit up to a computer with something like superior drummer providing the sounds it would be a LOT better than what is on the module.
I wasn't convinced at first, but this kit can sound amazing!!
That last kit is so good
Bad ass Drumbs!!!!
That thing is amazing! I almost want to drop the $ and get one. Thanks for the review!
It’s worth it bro. I just got mine in and I’m beyond happy with it.
I got it as well and it's awesome.
I guess you have to use the single stroke drummer. Which he is good at
Frankly I doubt a lot of people would be able to tell a difference in sound if they weren't watching the video.
The Alesis sounds really good, and would be a great option for people who might like to switch up their sound for different songs. Similar to pedals for guitarists.
With the added benefit of being able to play in more noise sensitive environments of course.
Tom's haven't got the carry of the accustic kit. Bit too muffled and not enough difference going from one to another. Cymbals too chocked up
17:20 it's my favorite part of the video 😎
I was just about to practice but I don’t think I’ll bother now.
I must say the module looks really cool but I can’t say that this Alesis e-kit had anything going for it to pull me off of a Roland. I am by no means a Roland fanboy or a Brand loyalist but I’ve yet to see a company put out better E-kits than Roland.
Interesting... what is Roland's best kit for 3500.00? I'd like to compare this one to your recommended Roland kit. Thank you.
I have a Roland kit and I'm going to trade it in for one of these for sure. Roland has NOTHING that sounds remotely close to this , especially at this price point. The TD 27 is nowhere close to this.
Bollicks
Do a Nickelback collab (or mashup at least)! All the best fellaz. Cheers.
Sick
I played this kit at guitar center a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t sound this good. 😬
Any real drummers ? How is the timing compared to acoustic?
Is there any type of delay? Latency?
Do these electric kits lock into your natural swing?
The Alesis E-kit sounds pretty good but the Acoustic kit is so much more impactful and dynamic i still think the cymbals on E-kits are a bit tingy
Compare apples to apples
Steven slate drum software will do the trick
Good thing Cooper has a mic set up during the interview, so that the sound isn’t so roomy an kinda hard to understand 🤓
Whats jrod playing at the start😮 i wanna learn it
reminds me of caravan
One pair of sticks for a lifetime on the Alesis
Expensive cymbals to replace though for when the rubber wears through.
I want one
Wow🤯🔥
I am not impressed with the bras sounds. I can't tell if they are too thin in their expression or just not loud enough.
I love playing ドラムセット
Dang it tracks every hit.
I’m waiting on mine in mail while we speak
I use an alesis nitro max and it was 499 and it was worth it
Pearl sounds better. Nice try Alesis. Can't beat a well tuned and mixed acoustic set.
I think with the whole Diddy thing going on, ur buds gunna wanna change his nickname
😂 just in case you’re an aspiring young musician that wants to be a major player one day just know that the people that are in charge of P. Diddy plan all of this! Just like politicians and presidents lie to us, the music industry lies to us too. P Diddy may be a scum bag but he’s also a Fall guy. 😮 now back to the E drums 😊
Ok… I see everyone online sweating these alesis kit… I wonder how much they are paying these context creators and UA-cam channels? Also, it’s like a rally against the DWe’s 🤣🤷🏻♂️. Just weird
The DWe's are Collector series shells which can be played with or without triggers. What is this Alesis kit out of made out of ? 😛
At this price, im not convinced. Cheaper kits ($1000 and less) work best with VSTs. My perspective is different. Im solely looking for an edrum kit to be a midi controller and a controller that will last 10+ years. Also, future compatibility is not a concern since USB and MIDI will still be around for a while. Sound expansion and updates wont be a problem on pc either (in general).
Would I take it as a gift, absolutely lol! Would I recommend it for someone looking to just setup and play out of the box, more than likely yes. As for me its a no, at this price.
I have a crimson 2 and I can tell you it's amazing as a midi controller, but there's always the problem with latency. I'm curious to ask why you think it wouldn't work better as a controller being the hardware is newer?
@@brunovanhoose6854 99% of the time latency is caused by an issue with the PC. It could be that the processor is underpowered, settings are misconfigured (more than likely the issue), software is unoptimized, none of those options etc...
I don't think the newer hardware would perform any better or worse as a controller. My point is that I couldn't justify spending $3500 on a kit just to use as a controller when there are cheaper and better options that can do the same thing.
I totally want one...Roland must be crying now.
I doubt it, not after Alesis lost in court to Roland over patent violation's 😁
@@dilankarun9172 If they can make this kit at the price they sell it for trust me Roland is crying.
Only if the reliability went way up. Id like to see this kit in a decade. Roland kits cared for literally last decades. Ive only bought used Roland and it all works flawlessly even the 25 year old components.
@@johndef5075 I think it will stand the test of time...I hope they sell the module separately I want one (my kit is a Roland} lol
@@johndef5075 I've had to get my Roland crashes repaired 3 times and an 18" ride is over $700 Canadian. Wont be buying roland again.
epic
Acoustic kit is much better in my opinion
We all know that. The biggest plus for edrummers is noise reduction. I couldnt play my acoustics hardly ever. I can play my edrums almost anytime.
Plus they are fun as hell.
Sorry Alesis, the Pearl kit sound way better. Biger, powerful with more depth and resonance.
No duhh. This an E kit
As someone who has been playing on Pearl kits for the past 10 years or so., im telling you man, i’m more than convinced with these edrum kits now., the trade off b/n that natural Pearl drum kit sound for the fact that i can practice drumming till late at night and recording consistently without the expensive mic/interface set ups..i’m ready to jump ship and turn to edrums now
@@charvlim5159 I never wanted an e kit. I always wanted an acoustic but couldn’t because of my living situation. I’ve been using e kits for the past two years and I’ve switched my preference to e kits because of how amazing they are.
Yea....for that one sound. But the electric kit has it beat cuz it can sound like 400 kits
@@SiQuemaCuhhRight! 👀 it’s like you can lead a horse to water…
I'm still not a fan of electric drums. I'm sticking to the acoustic drums.
Have you actually played any? I played acoustic for 40 years. Got my first ekit in 2017. They are fun as hell and I can play them almost anytime. Not possible on my acoustic drums.
Pearl sounds better, this is why I can’t get PRO Drummer’s to play my E kit in my studio, plus you’re not getting room ambience/depth from E kit, just top mesh, on the other hand, I’m not really a drummer but I do play drums on my songs in my studio and that kit would suit me fine after I Eq/reverb on it, whatever, it seems to be pretty flexible….
Digital is so much better
ekits always sount ptretty crap to me. Sure they have nice samples, but theyre just samples and nothing like a real kit. The peral blew it away. A £750 pearl export from the 90s would blow it away. But theyre talked about and promoted as if theyre the hottest thing. Problem with that is most thrashers believe it. Not saying they couldnt sound great but the change from accoustinc style playing to rigid ekit playing is always very clear. Th toms just sound wee, complete crap. But Im not a positive thinker like most people. The pearl though. Yeah nice.
An acoustic drum will always win in my opinion ... no discussion, no vs. No nothing, acoustics for the win ... great video !
Wow jalen brown also a drummer 😅😊
🫡💯Wow💯🫵🏿🫡
I can see a need for the Alesis kit , studio would be nice and quiet , fun to record with many choices . Great for practicing quietly. B U T !!!!!! Not for $3,500 .. BIG NO .. If I’m spending that kind of money, I’m putting it towards that Pearl kit . Not sure what total Pearl Kit price is, but I know if I have $3,500 I’ll certainly wait to save for the difference for that Pearl Kit !!!
Just have real kits and not 80s sounds
Is it just me or does the Alesis sound cheesy and fake?
Does not sound natural AT ALL!!!
It still sounds like an electric kit.
Hope your well ole friend !
