What in the world is with all these negative remarks? Come on people he is just trying to make things fun, it can not be serious stuff all the time. Doug keep it up buddy no harm in what I seen an I did get a few tips out of the video too. So quit your whining people.
I'm guessing its an accident. People with unusually large fingers hit the wrong buttons or forgot to put on their glasses and could discern between them. Ha. How could ya not love a descendant of a true icon like Paul?
Are some of those negative remarks being removed? I saw a few, mostly about the title but nothing worth commenting about. Strong on trick, weak on crazy by the way. I though maybe you were going to show the Swedish Homestead method (at least that's where I saw it) which I tried and which works a treat. It's weak on crazy also though. Dynamite, now that would be crazy, that's how my Dad and uncle first opened up some of the land where we live. They both still have all 16 fingers and 4 thumbs too! The hearing went though, prolly due to age rather than explosive concussion.
NICK DAMICO No kidding!! I mean like they are going through all the trouble of given us a view of how they live their lives NOW! Reformed over consumers that realized on day .. " hey, no need to live with the excess and unhealthy ( not to mention rat race) life style" that MOST are killing themselves trying to " live "! You don't have to agree with everything they do or say, they are just showing to you guys " it's a different life style, and here is what WE are doing". Unless Doug and Stacey are going to your home's at night and forcing you ( with a pitch fork and maul) to watch these programs... you really don't have any right to complain!! jeez-louise!
NICK DAMICO They remind me a lot of my grandparents. Pap walked all over town with a heavy tool box in one hand pushing his boiler vacuum with the other. They both worked hard. Blessings Doug and Stacy.
Dang! I never thought of doing it that way! I went out in our back yard and, using your method, removed five stumps, each greater than four feet in diameter! Thanks for the great idea!
love cutting wood! well not me personally...but I do have great memories..lots of them..of going with my dad to the "timber" and helping him load the back of the truck with the wood he cut. the sound and the smell..and just knowing he liked me helping...as a small girl...meant the world to me.
I admire your strength and agility, I'm 57 and would need a break cutting just halfway through one cut but I'm also fat and lazy so I have a good excuse lol. I'm just starting my homiestead and have yet to put my first seed in the ground getting close though. I really enjoy your vids keep me coming.
None Ya He's not Amish or Mennonite. He just likes tho wear simple clothes. He explained it in one of his videos . He is only living here 4-5 yrs after Urban life.
Cutting wood #likeaboss ! I love how people got uptight about the stump removal, but neglected to stop and think, "holy moses, that dude just cut that gigantic tree and hauled it all by himself". I couldn't do it unless I really had to. And even then, I'm not sure I could do it efficiently. Thankful for men homesteaders!!
The point is he misled people into watching it. if he had not there would have been more respect for what he actually did. Take that as constructive criticism Doug and keep up with the good work.
Whats the big deal with all that, I'm a disabled person and use to cut 8-10 cord a year by my self and bigger trees than that... What I wanna know is why the hard hat if your not gonna use the shield while cutting, yeah he's got shades on but still...LOL
I agree. Misleading. Wondering what his "TRICK" was for stump removal. I wouldn't have watched just to see some guy cut up a tree. That's 9 1/2 minutes I'll never get back.
Suggestions: Put your face guard down on your helmet. That's what it's for. The blade is too short on your saw and if you got a kickback it could hit you in the face. Get a longer blade. Shorter logs are easier to split when they are that wide.
Wow, people sure are hooked on bein' negative!! Personally, I LOL'd, as I often do on this channel. I learn a lot, and I am reminded to remember to laugh at the same time, I love it. What an excellent blueprint for living! (y)
Heeeeyyy Dougieeee, whats up Homie. Wrestling with wood, love it. Although I did not see you picking up those billets with that 'brute strenght' of yours, lol. I normally cut knots smaller so they are easier to split, you go some big pieces there. When I first started burning wood, I would have about 30 of those in my driveway during the summer for winter use. You guys are fortunate that there is no snow, we just got dumped and expecting more this weekend. Relax and enjoy, Shalom.
Thanks for the couple of tips Doug regarding keeping the tree off the ground and the difference between a blunt and sharp chainsaw. Keep on keepin' on mate :-)
Good video. I would suggest doing the undercut first, then cutting down to it; less chance of pinching the bar and easier to stay out of harms way. God bless
Ever used a Kant Hook to help roll those big chunks around easier .. Here in the mountains of Western NC they are a necessary tool to carry in our pickup trucks.. you should consider getting one..:)
I just got back from the yard...Cut down a bunch of trees and trying to turn them into something I can burn. They say one match can start a fire....I have a gallon of BBQ fluid and a ton of lighters and can't get anything to light. I guess the wood is too wet...So I am back in the hours watching Doug and Stacy...!
I remove trees and stumps all the time in doing grading. Put, build a grapple onto that tractor bucket... after completed, you will say... should have done this years ago.
Doug you are missing a shoelace - an extra one. That is because shoelace + ordinary cant hook = poor man's grapple. When you encounter a firewood log too big in diameter for your bucket to lift, you roll the log against the bucket with a cant hook then tie the handle in place tightly to your bucket center hook with the shoelace. You then get on your tractor and curl the bucket with the shoelace acting as though a second guy were holding the cant hook handle. Once the big log is cradled in the curled bucket you untie the lace, remove the cant hook and drive off to wherever you are delivering the log.
Oh man this is back in the day....no cant hooks sold around here anywhere...then the internet showed me lol now I have a bigger one and I got that off .....the internet Tractor was borrowed saved up for the chainsaw ...... Thanks for the comment
Dealing with pretty large rounds myself from time to time.. we use a chain and wrap and lift with the bucket, rather then trying to load them in the bucket...
Hey, a section or two of that tree looks like it would make nice table tops with interesting live edges if cross cut at about an inch-and-a-half or two inch thickness should you ever decide to make furniture. It's probably firewood by now.
Looks like someone got a beard trim. Very nice! 👍🏼 I just wished you would put a little more work into that homestead of yours!😂. Just watching that exhausted me!
crazy or cabin fever? ha! I made a funny 😄 a dull blade will start cutting at an angle down the wood also. and when you sharpen the blade turn your bar over. it will last a lil longer. nice video ☺
That red oak will split with a maul like butter. Especially if it is frozen and old. I would have just split it where it lie after cutting. Then loaded it into the tractor bucket saving quite few trips. But either way you get the job done.
I can't tell for sure due to the distance of the camera, but it appears that you may have Trametes versicolor (turkey tail ) on your log. This is highly medicinal- one of the most researched fungi used in medicine. I wouldn't use it if you sprayed bar oil all over it!! :O) Maybe Stacy has heard of it. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A LOG JACK? I'm not being rude. I'm from StL as well and never really knew what they were until I cut firewood. It might save your back some. Unless you just really enjoy Paul Bunyan type techniques. God Bless!
Do you have a video of paint drying in the works ? Or, watching firewood burn ? 5 minutes of cutting firewood before the stump removal which is just sliding a slice off the stump then hauling the cut logs away leaving the stump in the ground.
almost 10 min of my life...that I will never get back....where was the stump removal trick ? I Guess the trick was to get us to watch and listen to him for 10 min...worked once....certainly not wasting another 10 min watching listening to him again. I watch another homesteader and unlike Doug....Wranglerstar actually has great commentary that everyone could use in life so even if the video was not what the viewer expected...the commentary is always worth watching and listening to.
LOL, Try reading the title to the video, it was just in good fun. Guess that is a problem with fly by viewers they do not even take the time to read the title and video description Thanks for the 10 minutes =)
Doug, Doug, Doug! Why do you keep switching sides? Just make all your cuts down one side, THEN switch sides and come back down the other. Or get a bigger chain saw, I guess.
Also if you had a bigger saw instead of that liming saw it would go much faster cutting wood. But since you like the old way you should have one of those old round saw blades mounted to a tipping bed.
I didn't steal your idea I'm Australian and i don't know you. I been doing this for 35 years. I have other good ideas! If your in a hurry to get rid of the stump. Get a small tractor and focus from the inside out. just strip the stump from the inside out. Tree is very strong if you try to push it out from the out side.
Love the video but hate to see you putting miles on unnecessarily. Make your first all along one side, them go around and cut the 2nd cuts. Good stuff my friends. You are crazy. My kind of people.
For crying out loud, whinning babies, can't you see the bright side of this? Can't you see the fun he is having here. He is lightening your day and giving you something to smile about. Grow whinners. Great video my friend.
Red Vinyl I know. Like you, I only read the first half of the title too & expected to see a real stump removal. If you didn't catch it about half way thru he mentioned being a descendant of Paul Bunyon before pretending to remove "a stump" (that was NOT a stump) with his bare hands and a big grunt.
That was funny, but hey that wood is beautiful, cut a slab off of one of those rounds and make Stacy a table? You are very busy, but if you did have time...cut the slab on a bias to make it a little bigger and that would be beautiful...a new table for the outdoor kitchen.
I only thought of it because my husband made me a coffee table from a slab of standing dead, yellow pine from a fire over 80 years ago as a tribute to my Dad...
hi Doug and Stacy. .. so funny. ... last night my husband comes into the room and says please watch this video. So I go into the room and he has Off Grid With Doug and Stacy cued up! Thanks so much for FOD and the teaching. ...plus humor. Doug and the tree trunk. ..laughing again! Love this channel! Courage, Barbara
Okay, the Paul Bunyan joke was good and I was warned about this as not a 'how to' video. And it's nice to see someone with big equipment using it. But, I found 2 things with this video very annoying. One; it has nothing to do with taking a stump out. Two; what has the completely annoying rock concert buzzed out guitar and hammering drums got to do with anything? Very distracting, and even obnoxious! No background sound, or country style background sounds would have made the video tolerable. I won't be back to your site.
I have no idea why I watched this, and it's was good and all but the stump was not removed. I have a stump I need removed and I have to find a way this this small fry of a gal to do it on my own. Kind of disappointing. My tree is gone and I'm left with a stump I need out and I have to do it myself. I thought this was going to show me how, Bummer!!
lol so much controversy over joks. your number one homie is never butt hurt over your vids i enjoy your silly humor. I like it most when stacy looks at you like your crazy though lol. ...

Thank you for putting a smile on my face daily! We all need to enjoy getting back to the simple (yet not easy) life!
I caught myself rocking back and forth in my chair helping you roll the logs into the frontend loader bucket....ha ha

***** Useless?! Your the one that can't get the facts straight!! 😏
jojo archers I know right
I didn't see anything about removing a stump either. That's what I wanted to see
I like light hearted nature. Life's hard but we can live it with a smile or a frown. Bless you both. And thanks for the videos.
Right! And how DARE Doug trying to throw a little humor into the middle of it! haha :D

Get a longer blade.
Shorter logs are easier to split when they are that wide.
Good to see you were smart enough to have all your PPE. On while using the chain saw.
I thought I was the only one who removed stumps that way! Some people just don't eat their Wheaties.
Wow, people sure are hooked on bein' negative!! Personally, I LOL'd, as I often do on this channel. I learn a lot, and I am reminded to remember to laugh at the same time, I love it. What an excellent blueprint for living! (y)
we got us a kubota last year with hubby wanting a skeleton grapple. I think stacy needs to get you one!
bahahaha! You go Mr Bunyan! I needed to laugh. You guys are awesome. Thanks for brightening my day!💖
Was a Great Job! You were joking around...but from what I saw you just might be related to Paul...lol!
Heeeeyyy Dougieeee, whats up Homie. Wrestling with wood, love it. Although I did not see you picking up those billets with that 'brute strenght' of yours, lol. OMG, finally a video where a guy running a power saw actually has safety equipment on.
Good video. I would suggest doing the undercut first, then cutting down to it; less chance of pinching the bar and easier to stay out of harms way. God bless

You blind, hatin', idiots! You should see this is the best and easiest way to remove a stump on this earth!! LET 'ER ROT!! Works like a charm.
That'll keep ya busy for a while...Haha and warm
Ah nice! You’ve got an Allis Chalmers 5050. Great !!! That baby will haul !!!
Great video on a horrible weather day
Had sometime to appreciate the technique. That trick for stump removel will sure make my life easier. Ha : )
That's a big tree! Good video!
pretty funny. love the measuring tool. keep up the good vids and work. thanks for sharing
Very impressive. Those were huge slabs. Still plenty of work to do to them after you brought them back....... Long day
I just got back from the yard...Cut down a bunch of trees and trying to turn them into something I can burn. Do you have a video of paint drying in the works ? Or, watching firewood burn ?
5 minutes of cutting firewood before the stump removal which is just sliding a slice off the stump then hauling the cut logs away leaving the stump in the ground.
those two stumps at the beginning (Hack Job) tells the tale
Beautiful wood grain
great video thanks for sharing
Good use of the face guard.
Gee whiz...I think we need a little silliness these days! My grandma used to say " drip honey" when I had nothing nice to say so "Drip Honey" peeps;)

💗 Doug & Stacy 💗
OGWD! Ya got some great music for the no-talkie bits. where is it from????
Another great video!
Good (fun) video, thank-you. Maybe you should get or make (blacksmith) a pole hook like lumbermen use to move logs (leverage is the key)? ;-)
For being off the grid, you sure do have a lot of stuff that either requires the grid or came from the grid.
YEAH! buzz off negative nancys! Doug and Stacy rock
I love when a man is a hard worker it just seemed like to me that's the way God made us
And women. We can all be hard workers.
Thanks for the tip
Thx for the stump trick.
Doug, put that shield down. Isn't that way u hv it on? 😉
Doug, Doug, Doug! Why do you keep switching sides? Just make all your cuts down one side, THEN switch sides and come back down the other. Or get a bigger chain saw, I guess.

I one time removed a stump with a shovel and a pickaxe and a hacksaw. I will no longer use a shovel pickaxe and hacksaw .
That face screen doesn't work as well up as it does down when you're cutting biscuits
wedge keeps from pinching saw blade.
Nothing like the smell of fresh cut wood in the morning.
3:10 a very good tip
Interesting sun screen ,What's that ? Oh , the screen is to stop sawdust from going into the eyes ,ahhhh if you lower it
The stump removal part is in stump removal No 2
Love the video but hate to see you putting miles on unnecessarily. Make your first all along one side, them go around and cut the 2nd cuts. Good stuff my friends. You are crazy. My kind of people.
I knew you had a reason.
Silly boy Doug Brut strength lol
YO DOUG?A: Careful with those big logs! Mess up a leg real quick!B: Get a cant hook for moving! Lots easier!Just sayingBatman
The title should be How To Remove a Stump the Hardest way Ever.
off the grid but on youtube
if you went to he expense of a face shield USE IT
A very entertaining video. Thanks, Doug.
From my experience, a rotten log will dull my chains faster than green wood.
Just wondering why that facemask never came down during all that sawing
HEeeeY , You Guys OK ... Haven't seen STACY in a Week, You Must be Busy !
stump removal is at 9:35
what happened to the part about removing the stump?
How cold was it that day?
Here on our homestead, my wife just takes out her wooden spoon and threatens the stumps. And they lay over in shear fear. :) Godspeed.
haha! :D
Community Surthriveal can ya get her to come to my place i got a field full of them.
this guy has a tough job, can't imagine when the time there was no power tool
I can tell ya! The men were men! And the sheeps were scared! 😉
+Caiping Su Well get an ax and chop a 4" branch in half. To chop a 40" branch you will have to do 100 times the work.
Just want to say this guy is the real deal....hard worker and respectable...thanks for all your hard work Doug
Robert Everman you're 100% correct
Unless you have lived this kind of life and know how hard it is shut up. They are great just to opening there life up to the public.
well then, shouldn't your tractor be blue? lol! :)
For crying out loud, whinning babies, can't you see the bright side of this? Can't you see the fun he is having here. He is lightening your day and giving you something to smile about. Grow whinners. Great video my friend.
So, where's the stump removal part??
Red Vynil God,stood map to the end

Red Vinyl

I only thought of it because my husband made me a coffee table from a slab of standing dead, yellow pine from a fire over 80 years ago as a tribute to my Dad...
Milestogotilisleep that's awesome!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hey" Paul Bunyan" I need a tree stump removed at my house can you please come help me!!! That was a good one 👍👍👍.
Sorry to see negative comments and thumbs down. Keep doing what you're doing. It's your channel.
Paul Bunyan would have carried those logs on his shoulder :) have a great day
Called rounds not logs.
Can I call them cut up pieces of tree? :)
what ever happened to Babe?????
hi Doug and Stacy. .. so funny. ... last night my husband comes into the room and says please watch this video. So I go into the room and he has Off Grid With Doug and Stacy cued up! Love the video!
Keep tearing out those stumps, Doug!
(and then maybe drop a few on the heads of the haters...)
Why that loud music? Give me the beauty of the saw cutting the big log!!
