James Tabor - Perhaps Even God Doesn't Know the Future?

- For God not to know the future in every last detail threatens traditional theologies. There'd be worry over God's providence, God's promises. If the future is truly open, if there are no true propositions about the future that can be known with certainty in advance, then it does not downgrade God and God's omniscience for God not to know what cannot be known.

God works in mysterious ways is just 1 way to move the goal posts well after the ball has been kicked
Ted LeMoine lol
Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of the book, blessed are they who keep the commandments of God and have the right to enter into the city.
Finally! A scientist who knows the texts! No lumping Torah and NT together, like the lazy atheist/agnostic scientists.
What if physics understood that the purpose this world was created was so that God could bestow of his good to another? Might our physical world be easier to understand?
After all, what exists until we observe it?
The Old Testament and The New Testament disagree on so much. Maybe we need a Modern Testament? One that involves modern science and philosophy?
You should rethink your posting and look at both Covenants from a Hebrew perspective, there is no disagreement at all.

Christ IS the New Testament. All before the birth of Christ is obsolete and only for reference of predicting and cementing His ultimate arrival. ✝️
@@paulustarsus Or it’s just a great story. Like the Matrix.
God knows everything, don't underestimate.
I've always found this view very appealing at a gut level. "Man was made in the image God". It seems to better explain the idea of God's shadow side, the devil, as explored by Jung. In this way, God's battle is our battle on a higher level. This also ties in with the fractal nature of reality and "as above, so below". There seems to be something about this that feels right.
There are 14,800 versions of the new testament. So how can this be the word of God then in a literal sense? Also tens of thousands of contradictions. You'd think an omnipotent and all knowing creator of the universe could do better
Ted LeMoine right. But there is one Torah. If you are talking about God you have to go to the Torah. And by the way, it is 304805 letters long. Not one more or one less. We have one that is 2000 years old with the Dead Sea scrolls. It is IDENTICAL to the ones we have now.
These are facts that must be accepted and dealt with.
Jews make up 0.02% of the population and win 20% of Nobel Prizes.
I'm not Jewish.
What about the other religions and other gods?
David Heller it's all idolatry. Torah and Judaism and Noahidism and even Islam are monotheistic.
***** before monotheism was polytheism
David Heller please explain. Monotheism is nearly 6000 years old. There were monotheists before Abraham and Moses. Google 7 Laws of Noah.
***** its a long process there is a video on here
God should try asking Zeus. That dude def knows the future.
HebaruSan lol
Zeus has no time for fake gods, he drinks with Odin
Time is process, and can have more than one dimension. These nested hierarchies could extend into greater and greater conscious beings and also lesser and lesser beings, infinitely in both directions.
As god’s is so cleaver, then he’s ablest to seeing the future! Because he’s got all the knowledge and tools 🛠 to be able to do that.
Interesting. This does contrast to how most fundamental/traditional Christians view God. I am not sure if this goes the same for Judaism.
Aerex12 if you want to understand God why would anyone start anywhere other than the Torah? It doesn't make sense to start anywhere else
I would think the Torah has a limited view of God. If this were not the case then God would be a small as the Torah, no?
Aerex12 The Torah is not man's book of God. Rather God's book of man.
Perhaps. Psalms and Songs of Solomon have nothing to do with God granted none of scripture was written by God but rather inspired.
this is very easy to answer and need not anyone to teach you...super easy as stretching your arm up
Life itself is ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of things, get over it.
Charles Brightman you're depressed.
Your decisions are valuable. So are your words and good deeds and self improvement.
Snap out of it

Thank you for your concern. I have been fighting advanced cancer since 2003 and should have been dead many years ago according to the doctors. In that time I had continued my search for the real apparent truth. It currently appears that:
1. We will ALL die one day from something;
2. We will ALL forget everything we have ever know and experienced;
3. We will ALL be forgotten one day in future eternity as if we never ever existed at all in the first place.
There has to be at least one truly eternally consciously existent entity that actually factually exists throughout all of future eternity for anything at all to even potentially matter throughout future eternity, and then if such an entity actually exists, whatever mattered would have to matter to that entity throughout it's future eternal existence. Otherwise, whatever mattered would cease to matter one day because there wouldn't be a conscious entity left for anything at all to matter to.
Yes, life matters while we consciously exist;
Yes, we can even find meaning and purpose for our life while we consciously exist;
Yes, even our death can have meaning for others when we die;
Yes, we might even be remembered for a time after we die.
BUT, we still ALL die, forget everything and are forgotten, or so it currently appears.
So, between having the terminal cancer for so long, and it apparently seeming like reality indicates that life itself is ultimately meaningless in the grand scheme of things, if I come across as being depressed, in part it is because I am. I'm sorry if I upset you with the apparent truth. It's just that this YT channel is "Closer To Truth". Don't seek the truth if you don't really want to know what it might be. Even if it's not actually beneficial to our long term outlook. So, face the real apparent truth or live in delusions. Your choice. I wanted truth over delusions.
Charles Brightman thank you for sharing and keep on fighting. I'm truly sorry for offending you. I should have been more careful.
You said that we forget everything when we die. How do you know that is true? Studies of near death experiences seem to indicate the opposite is true.
Is it not entirely possible that there is more than just this dense physical world? Perhaps our energy, or the thing that makes us ourselves is just transferred to another world? A world not governed by time in the same way ours is?
You also said that our decisions and good deeds and conduct only matter while we are here. How do you know? Perhaps we receive merit and reward for these things?
Is that so crazy?
+Lea Paton
1. You didn't offend me but thank you for caring. I have found in this life how gaining the knowledge of even one pertinent fact can change a conclusion. We truly do not know what we do not know. Hence I try to keep my mind open to new pertinent information.
2. Modern science, while not fully knowing what "consciousness" even is, nor how our brain thinks thoughts and has memories, is showing that those items appear to be attached to our physical brain. Currently it appears that when our physical brain dies for it's last time, "we" die, for all of future eternity. Yes, the energy, atoms and molecules of our being most probably go on after we die, but they are not in the specific formation of "us" anymore. There is currently no evidence that we have any sort of "soul" that retains "us" after we physically die. While I acknowledge there could be, there is just no evidence at this time that such a soul actually exists. NDE's are most probably a lack of oxygen to the brain triggering a cascading release of energy and hence some people claim they see their life flash before their eyes as the energy concerning their memories gets released. The claims of many NDE'ers can be attributed to an active brain of the individual during their actual birth experience thereby forming some of the earliest memories inside of their physical brain, of which then later gets recalled and put into their recollections of their perceived reality.
3. Please see my response to your other comment concerning "God".
4. As I truly do not know what I do not know, I do try to keep my mind open to new information and possibilities. Add to that, our physical senses and physical brain are all physically limited and do not perceive 100% actual reality, plus our brain likes to make stuff up to fill in the gaps of it's perceived reality. So, I can't even fully trust my own mind about anything at all, and I will be the first to admit that I could be wrong, but then some sort of evidence has to be shown to me as to where I am wrong in my thinking.
Onto your other comment on my other thread.
There is a creator in the universe who guides us but you are ultimately responsible for the decisions you make and yes the world is fake and we have done all of this before.
QuentinDude lol
The arguments seem to be based upon the notion that the Bible is 100% true, (of which reality says it's probably not).
Charles Brightman actually, the Torah is very scientifically sound. Archaeology continues to prove that.
+Lea Paton
I respectfully disagree with your delusions.
Charles Brightman please be more specific. Explain your problem with the 5 Books of Moses and God.
+Lea Paton
First:
Prove to me and the world that "God" even exists.
Charles Brightman The task you gave to me is infinitely more difficult than the question I asked you.
I can't give you one single link and say "there is your proof". You would reject it anyway. I can give you 50 links full of coincidences and anomies that then force one to consider God. Science and Torah convinced me, a former agnostic.
You probably aren't actually an full blown atheist anyway.
is James tabour Jewish or christian
Folahan Adelakun both lol
David Heller that's why he's always talking about the Hebrew Bible
Folahan Adelakun uh, that's because it is the source of monotheism/God/Hashem. Where the heck else would you start?
I'm going to hell in all religions lol.
Spider-Man Has Created "God" , So It Is Only Spider-Man Who Knows The Future !!! .......................................................................................
that misses the point entirely. under the context of theism do the arguments stand who knows.
Vegan Comedian lol
You have to believe the bible when you read, otherwise you get confused like Mr. Tabor here.
He completely misses the meaning in biblical stories like Sodom.
Moses didnt talk God into or out of anything, with the two cities, but rather God was testing Moses heart.
Goes to show someone can attend all kinds of schooling but still miss the treasure in the word of God.
More proof that the Holy Spirit is the teacher of Gods word and not man.
moph
Well, it would be kinda disappointing when you create something and don't even have full control on it.
Is Mr. Tabor aware that all the omnis attributed to God are not biblical? Here is a demonstration that proves to us that historians should stay in their field and not engage theology.
There is no god.
David Heller you haven't convinced me or anyone else. Why make this statement?
***** lol where is it then? What is it doing?
David Heller if you saw God every day, of course you would always be on your best behaviour. But then would you have free will? And would your merit or reward be as great as if you worked on your conduct and improved even though God seems hidden at times. I bet if you thought about it honestly, you might be able to come up with some instances in your life when God may have been looking out for you...
***** I'm not scared of any god why should I be?
David Heller I'm not afraid of any god with a lower case g either. Idols are useless and disgusting.
Why should you fear God? Good question. It's just something that happens once you realize God is here.
You probably fear lots of things. Even men. Why wouldn't you then also fear and respect the creator of those things?
You have intelligence. Why not fear and respect the creator of intelligence?
You fear the world around you. Fear the force that created it for you.
