  • Recorded in 1982, this is a short video clip of The Harry Brown Trio guesting on Pebble Mill at One. The quality isn’t brilliant but it is the only visual record of the Trio that I have come across. If anyone else out there has audio or video clips of Harry, I am sure there are many on UA-cam who would appreciate seeing/hearing this popular Nottingham jazz pianist again

I used to go to listen to Harry Brown and his vocalist Jyll Ball when they played at the White Post Hotel restaurant, Farnsfield and the Green Dragon pub at Oxton in Nottinghamshire. They did go further afield too and it was always a jolly good, enjoyable night out. There's a little of Jyll Ball's talent on my You Tube channel, if you're interested. Sadly, she passed away c2010.
      Best wishes - Pete

I think the drummer is probably Barry Paige - sadly no longer with us

I used to go to the Green Dragon at Oxton - probably mid 1980s through to around the late 90s. Also went to other jazz gigs in the area including the Fiveways pub on the ring road, and the Lion at Old Basford. I'm wondering if the drummer on this clip is Barry Paige. I think the bass player is a guy named Neil (but can't remember his last name). Anyone any ideas?

Kevan Butt Thanks for your comments, Kevan. I think you are probably right in your assumptions. This recording was made some time after I left Nottinghamshire to live in Dorset (back now!). When I knew the lads, it was Harry on piano (of course), Alan Young from Radcliffe-on-Trent on bass and Howard Eggleton from Toton on drums. In the late 60s/early 70s one of their venues was the restaurant of the White Post Inn at Farnsfield, which I used to visit quite often from my home in Bingham. I made several quality recordings there, all sadly lost with the passage of time. Regards. Pete

I think I've remembered the bass player's name. I believe it's Neil Squires. Anyone know him?
