Jimi Jamison was my favorite lead singer in Survivor. Jimi Jamison Amber I think both you and Jay will enjoy The Search Is Over. One of favorite songs with Jimi on vocals. Dave Bickler was the lead singer on Eye of the Tiger.
High on You, Is this Love, the Search is Over are great Survivor tunes you need to react to soon. Yes, they sing Eye of the Tiger but it was a different lead singer.
I heard that Stallone had actually approached Journey to contribute a song to Rocky III, and they declined. So the production team sought out a "Journey-like" band and came across Survivor. It certainly worked out well for everyone!

Jimi Jamison was pretty much same age as Steve Perry so they were just peers. Jimi was a phenomenal voice on his own. Miss him to this day. Love "In the Burning Heart" from Rocky III. Also, The Search is Over among so many others.

Survivor is best known for (as you mentioned) the Rocky movies songs "Eye of the Tiger" and "Burning Heart" but they also had some tremendous power ballads "The Search is Over" , "Is This Love", and "High on You." Jimi sang primarily these songs while the previous lead singer Jim Peterik was the lead for most of the Rocky movie songs. Jim also had success as the lead singer of the group "Ideas of March" with their most prominent single "Vehicle" which you've reacted to. Interestingly, Jim Peterik had a lot of success doing a series of hilarous Bud Light Radio commercials (Called "Real Men of Genious").
My favorite Survivor song, back when I was a kid, I had no money to buy albums or cassettes. I had to wait for this song to come on the radio, when that acoustic guitar intro hit, I would go crazy. For me, favorite songs were even more special because I couldn't hear them over and over again at the touch of a button. If I was a kid now and had so many ways to hear what I want when I want, songs would be just songs. Things are more appreciated when they come so rarely.
Survivor actually had a lead singer change in 1983, the one who sang the infamous Eye of the Tiger was Dave Bickler, and that song from him was a one hit song wonder, all of the other hits like: I Can’t Hold Back, Burning Heart, Moment of Truth, Didn’t Know It Was Live, Is This Love, Man Against the World, The Search Is Over, High On You, I See You In Everyone, In Good Faith, Rebel Son, How Much Love, Desperate Dreams, & Tell Me I’m the One are all big hits from Jimi Jamison’s time as lead singer of survivor, so if u wanna go down that road with him and see I’m telling u, u think he had a Steve Perry vibe with this song, he’s the one who changed the entire band from a hard rock and roll type to more of a classic poppy rock and roll, like the soft Melonies while also singing with that tough rock and roll mentality, he also had a very extensive solo career that was very famous too, I recommend checking out some of his solo work, and if u need some solo song requests pls ask!!! Cause there’s a lotta good ones u definitely should check out!!! He’s got songs from before he joined survivor in 1979 as a solo artist, and multiple solo albums after he left survivor and even came back and did a album with survivor again in 2006 that’s hard to find on UA-cam, so pls ask me any songs u wanna know to react too cause u will fall in love with Jimi once u hear more of him! He’s truly a legend of rock and roll and arguably i say him and Steve Perry are two of the bests to ever do it!!!
Unfortunately I couldn't live through the 80s, I would have liked to have been a teenager at that time, I was 4 years old when the album Vital Signs came out with Jimi as the lead vocalist of Survivor, but in the 90s I really liked the TV series Baywatch and I wondered who sang that song with that voice, and years later when I had access to the internet I looked for the song and then I started watching videos of survivor with Jimi, and ufff I fell totally in love with his voice and his beauty, so quickly Jimi He became my favorite artist forever! I love Jimi Jamison ❤
Survivor were killing it in the mid 80's! Jimi Jamison replaced original "Eye of the Tiger" singer and the hits kept comin'. "The Search is Over" was the big power balled. "Is This Love" and "High on You" were awesome rockers like this one.
RIP Jimi. Survivor came on the scene with "Eye of the Tiger" from the Rocky III soundtrack and it was massive and put them on the map. Jimi took over as lead singer after that song and made some killer music, a lot of power ballads. This is a great one, along with " The Search is Over" & "High on You". This band produced some amazing music in the 80's and like many couldn't sustain it into the 90's. But their songs will always be classics.
i listened to all this right through high school. i’ll still mix up survivor, reo speedwagon, journey, foreigner and some times 38 special. all awesome stuff
@@billmittenzwey3021 Let's face it...we all confuse these bands with each other. With so much music greatness, it's inevitable. What an amazing life we had back then!
This is Jimi Jamison singing, you just did one of his solo songs recently. Yes Survivor did "Eye of the Tiger" but it was with their original lead singer Dave Bickler, Jimi joined the band in 84 after Dave Bickler had vocal issues and had surgery on the vocal cords.
Hey Rob Squad! One aspect that truly stands out in this track is the incredible sound of their lead singer. His dynamic range and captivating delivery make the song an absolute auditory delight. But here's a little known fact: Did you know that Survivor's lead singer on 'I Can't Hold Back' wasn't their usual frontman? It was actually Jimi Jamison who took the reins for this particular hit. His powerful vocals injected a fresh energy into the song, adding a unique flavor to Survivor's already impressive repertoire. What sets 'I Can't Hold Back' apart is the seamless blend of catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, creating an instant earworm that's hard to resist. The band's ability to craft such a compelling tune, combined with the exceptional vocal talent of Jimi Jamison, is a testament to their musical prowess. So, if you're a fan of powerful vocals and memorable hooks, give 'I Can't Hold Back' by Survivor a spin. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the remarkable sound and the hidden gem that lies within their discography. Stay tuned for more fascinating musical discoveries, and keep rocking, Rob Squad!
Some other noted Survivor songs to check out: American Heartbeat, I’m not that man anymore, Caught in the Game, Jackie Don’t Go, Broken Promises, Moment Of Truth, Is This Love, Oceans (between Us), Rebel Son, Desperate Dreams, Didn’t Know It Was Love. American Heart i believe was the B side to Eye Of The Tiger and it does have very similar feel.
Jim Peterik, the keyboard player for Survivor, has the midas touch. He has written / co-written so many hits starting with Vehicle by the Ides of March (you reacted to them 7 months ago) where he was guitarist and lead singer, all the big hits for Survivor, hits for 38 Special, REO Speedwagon, Sammy Hagar, Cheep Trick, the Beach Boys, Dennis DeYoung (Styx) and so many others. If you see one of the writers is Jim Peterik-it is a great song. I know people who know Jim and he is one of the nicest people in the music industry.
My all time favorite singer! I’m so sad that I never got to see survivor before he passed away. As people are saying The search is over is a great rest reaction song. You can’t go wrong with any of their songs.
Survivor is one of THE greatest bands of ALL TIME. The vocalist is Jimi Jamison, who incredibly sadly, died in 2014. I saw him and Survivor live just days before he passed. You actually reacted to him just a month before you reacted to this. Jimi is the one who sang and wrote "I'm Always Here" (The theme to Baywatch). Yes, Survivor sang "Eye of The Tiger" But that was before Jimi joined the band. The lead singer on Eye of the Tiger is Survivor's original lead singer, Dave Bickler. Survivor has had two of the greatest lead singers in rock history, it's amazing really. And Survivor always got compared to Journey and they should have been just as successful cause they're certainly just as talented if not more so. But their management never properly marketed them and their record label collapsed during their peak. Also, Frankie Sullivan, the guitarist and co-songwriter, leads the band and can't get along with anyone, he has kicked everyone out of the band, so it's now basically just him and some no-bodies and they only released one album since the 80s because of him.
Dave Buckled sang lead on Eye of the Tiger, but if I remember right, he had problems with nodules on his vocal chords and had to have surgery right when the group was gaining momentum, so they had to find a different lead singer and hired Jimi Jameson.
*Dave Bickler. One of the greatest rock singers of all time. Besides Survivor, he was the vocalist from all the Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" commercials, one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time.
Absolutely Right J! Journey Vibes. This song is Complex & Really Soars! It's Fantastic! This song would be in my Top 50 of All Time! Great Memories, Thx You Guys! :)
The lead singer is Jimi Jamison who sings the Baywatch theme song "I'm Always Here" that you recently reacted to!!! He is the second singer for Survivor, he did not sing Eye of the Tiger, but it was the group Survivor :)
The album this is on is amazing! It's true 80's rock. I can't tell you home many times I had this blasting on my stereo at home. In the car going up home to Sauble Beach. I've been told his voice is one of the hardest to follow. Not many people can sing his songs. I can sing them great. My voice would probably peel paint. Too bad it won;t kill weeds. But I sing along anyway. My grand mother use to take me to church on Sundays. I always figured it was because of her voice. Pretty sure that's where I get my. She told me that she sung like a banshee. But it was joyful noise, so your going to hear it anyways. Miss her lots.
This IS the group that sings "Eye of the Tiger"! After that massive hit, you might think they'd be a 1 hit wonder, but they had a few big records! This is a pure 80's love song!
Dave Bickler was original singer, band first hit, Poor Man's Son was on FM radio my friends and I heard and liked. All got the album, months later in spring we drove to Pasadena, not for the parade or football bowl there, but a Saturday night concert of Survivor. Few of us brought our girls to it, all first concert except me, I saw Cheap Trick in 8th grade! Couple years later, after Rocky II, Stallone called piano writer in band saying he loved Poor Man's Son and wanted a song for Rocky 3 movie. Didn't want to, but gave the script to them, so the song was about Rocky, after he won, and not as hungry as the younger boxer. Words in song about the movie. 3rd Bickler album, Caught in the Game, I liked very much, but didn't sell very much like before. Bickler sang so hard and high, he had throat surgery and had to stop singing. Jimi came along, another great singer, this song was first hit, the next two bigger and videos too. High on You and The Search is Over. Whole album is good, several others on FM too. 3rd Jimi and final album didn't sell good, but few good songs, my favorite Jimi one, Across the Miles, a ballad, with great guitar and 3 singing great! Check the original video of it, black and white , good play list song!
Great song! Brings back lots of memories. I love watching both of u loving and reacting to the music I grew up on. RSR is the best reaction channel on UA-cam! ✌&❤
You guys HAVE to hear Is This Love by Survivor. It was released in 1987 and was there last hit they ever accomplished. It’s so powerful and you can dance to it to
When this song came out (1984) many of us thought it was another single from the Steve Perry solo album. We were unaware that Survivor had changed singers from Dave Bickler...then we saw this video and knew there was a new Survivor singer.
Survivor was a great band. When I was a kid in the 80s I remember them being pretty big here in Illinois. They are from Chicago. Look up the song Poor Man's Son! Another great tune!
@@ssRocker-nn3tp Yes; the whole album. Really the first 3-4 albums are great. But Premonition is something special. Take You On A Saturday is fun to play on guitar!
@@motrock2 Caught In The Game has one of the Greatest 80s riffs. Santa Ana Winds is one of the best Survivoir songs ever. Their debut is also pretty good. Very similar to Foreigner. After this album, they developed their own style. Premonition and Caught In The Game are my favorites with Dave Bickler. But i prefer Premonition. Very consistent and all the songs are Great.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp Yes; Caught In the Game is a great riff. I have played that one on guitar also. Frankie Sullivan is very much underrated as a guitar player. However; the one who brought the song writing together the most I think was Jim Peterik. Without him; they never could write that kind of great stuff again. Jim's Pride Of Lions sounds like Survivor 2.0!
@@motrock2 Yes Jim Peterik is a genius. Franke Sullivan is one helluva guitar player. His solos are always tasteful. The riffs are what makes the Survivor sound Great and recognizable. This band is the most underrated of all time.......countless number of great songs......along with KiSS and Def Leppard my all time favourite. Should do Survivors "Can't let You Go"..................a really rockin' song.
Amber and J, glad you both loved this one!! Another great reaction!! Journey vibes, love that... because they are both from San Francisco area!! 😊 So many great bands are from there - it's crazy!! You should look that list up. Next on your list from Survivor, please do: *Caught In The Game* *American Heartbeat* *Across The Miles* @RobSquadReactions
This song (along with all of theirs) is SO well crafted. Every element is used for maximum impact. Keyboards rarely sound this good in rock music (my opinion), the guitar (Frankie Sullivan) is up front in key moments but is almost like a backup singer for Jimi at other parts. Tempo, instruments dropping out and coming back in at the right times to add drama, the unconventional arrangements. Oh yeah, and EXCELLENT lyrics. I just love it. These guys were PROS. and LIVE, holy crap, sounds pretty much as good as the darn studio recording. Lots of "romance" in Survivor's songs. If you like that vibe ... enjoy the trip. No mention of the RISKY BUSINESS vibe in the video? Didn't you just watch that movie 😉
Exactly! My thoughts are spot on with yours. Production values are excellent in this majestic piece! Not one instrument overrides the other and the mixing in the production is almost perfect. The guitars in the opening of the song predicts the entire piece and you can continue hearing them throughout the song. Drums, keyboard, and bass guitar, keep the song moving along and it has a great tempo, so I agree with what you have said.
Jimi Jamison had an incredible singing voice. I always wondered why he never spoke when they interviewed Survivor back in the 80s. Watch an interview with Jimi Jamison he has the strongest Southern draw I ever heard and I live in the South.
This is one cray nostalgic album for me. My parents happened to get it on casette around when I got a Walkman and I'd go around listening to this tape over and over.
One survivor song that was not a big radio hit but was a fan favorite live n concert was "I See You in Everyone." This is an incredible song and there are several great live performances on UA-cam. A few other suggestions are "Everlasting", "Is This Love", and "Broken Promises."
That whole Vital Signs album was fire from beginning to end. I played the hell out of that cassette when I was a kid. Always wondered why "I See You in Everyone" was never released as a single. Great song.
@@snuggy18 Yeah, "Vital Signs" was one of the best albums to come out of the 80's. It had so many good songs that weren't released as singles ("Broken Promises", "Everlasting", and more). I have actually bought this album multiple times in different formats (LP, CD, etc.). It still sounds great to me.
The leader of another Chicago group, Jim Peterik, started Survivor in late 70’s. Jim’s prior group was called Ides Of March. They had a hit song in 1970 called “Vehicle”. Check it out! Nice horns in that song too!
This is the group that sings "Eye Of The Tiger," BUT......... Surprisingly, they had a different lead singer for this song. You need two different names. The old singer lost his voice & didn't recover fast enough from vocal chord surgery, so they found someone to replace him that sounded similar.
Guys, first of all, the channel is great. Like a fan of Survivor you must hear, maybe, one of the best 80s ballads: Never stopped loving you. A hug from Uruguay!!
Love that you did another Survivor song. I See You in Everyone is a great song, especially the Live in Japan version (guitar solo!) High on You, The Search is Over, First Night. Entire Viral Signs album was amazing!
Jimi Jamison r.i.p..... "Is it love".... "So many nights in blind confusion I've walked the line of love We reach out in disillusion When one night isn't nearly enough"...Now that's the good stuff 😎🥃
Rocky 4 had a lot of survivors songs! Saw them opening for REO in a summer concert. Amazing night sitting on the grass in a open field. Of course we also had our ears blasted by getting up close and personal with the stage!
I got to see them live back in 1984. Great night,Zebra opened the start of the night hell of a band very triumph with rush vibes. Then came Survivor and they were such an under rated band, but they had a great singer and a great band all around, a hit maker. REO Speedwagon had a great night they went back and crank up the sound and let it rip.Gary Richrath is so incredibly when he gets to solo the man can play.
Not even gonna request next song from Survivor, can't go wrong with them. Howewer i'm gonna request.....Firehouse :) It's been over a year guys and you loved it. Amber talked about them some videos ago so you havent totally forgot them ;) "When i look into your eyes" is almost as good as "love of a lifetime".

I haven't heard this in forever, and can still sing every word....thanks for reminding me of its greatness
Survivor and Asia are two of those bands with a lead singer just like Steve Perry. Awesome voices. Great for love songs or lost love-songs
Have they reacted to Asia? I don't know. If not, c'mon guys! Asia is a must do
i listened to all this right through high school. i’ll still mix up survivor, reo speedwagon, journey, foreigner and some times 38 special. all awesome stuff
@@billmittenzwey3021 Let's face it...we all confuse these bands with each other. With so much music greatness, it's inevitable. What an amazing life we had back then!
@@davidcall5430 Yes, they have reacted to two Asia's songs "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell"
"Across the Miles". " Is this love?" & last but Not least, " Didn't know it was love"
How Much Love by Survivor! 😎🔥🤘🎸
Saw Survivor in concert and knew every song. LOVE them!!!
Jimi Jamison is singer. One of my favorites of all time! This was first album played. Many great survivor songs!
Forget the video. Listen to the song. It's simply magic. It makes you feel like love is tangible...
...and it is. Keep living, learning, and loving.
Besides Survivor, he was the vocalist from all the Bud Light "Real Men of Genius" commercials, one of the most successful ad campaigns of all time.
another favorite. it’s romantic, the feel, his soaring voice, the melody, the music … his voice is in my top 4
“High On You”, “Burning Heart” and “The Search Is Over” are awesome Survivor songs.
Absolutely Right J! Journey Vibes. This song is Complex & Really Soars! It's Fantastic! This song would be in my Top 50 of All Time! Great Memories, Thx You Guys! :)
So true. I mean ... it actually has two choruses!
Had forgotten about this song. Thanks for the trip down memory lane
So many great songs. I love “man against the world” and “rebel son” from the album “When seconds count” are awesome.
Love man against the world!
The lead singer is Jimi Jamison who sings the Baywatch theme song "I'm Always Here" that you recently reacted to!!! He is the second singer for Survivor, he did not sing Eye of the Tiger, but it was the group Survivor :)
Saw Survivor at a large club in the Chicago area during the mid-80's... great live/great energy. Great reaction as always, guys. 🫡
I saw these guys at six flags n Atlanta n the 80's.They were great n concert!!Good times!!
A trip down memory lane.its amazing what music can do!!❤
Dave Bickler was original singer, band first hit, Poor Man's Son was on FM radio my friends and I heard and liked.
Ditto all of the above, especially that RSR is the best reaction channel. No others compare.
💯% 🥰❤️
You guys HAVE to hear Is This Love by Survivor. It was released in 1987 and was there last hit they ever accomplished. It’s so powerful and you can dance to it to
When this song came out (1984) many of us thought it was another single from the Steve Perry solo album. We were unaware that Survivor had changed singers from Dave Bickler...then we saw this video and knew there was a new Survivor singer.
I love the voice of this singer. And they had quite a few bangers. The videos were cute and silly & feel good... Ahhh, the 80's.
Survivor was a great band. When I was a kid in the 80s I remember them being pretty big here in Illinois. They are from Chicago. Look up the song Poor Man's Son! Another great tune!
Premonition is one of my favorite early 80s AOR records. Great album. Not a weak song.
Are you familiar with the band Mariah? The guitar player is none other than Franke Sullivan. Check this album out. It,s on UA-cam. From 76.
Survivor have a lot of great songs.
Absolutely love Survivor! It’s been a while since I’ve heard this song so thanks for getting to it, such a great song from a great era in my life!
One of the most beautiful songs - full passionate love.
Their song "Burning Heart" is pure 🔥. It's from the soundtrack of "Rocky IV".
Next on your list from Survivor, please do: *Caught In The Game*
*American Heartbeat*
*Across The Miles*
@RobSquadReactions
Another one of my favorite bands!❤ Sooo many good songs!!!
High on You is another good one from Survivor 💖
Love Survivor
Franke Sullivan is a great Guitar Player. His solos and riffs were always very tasty. The riff in Caught In The Game, is one of the best 80s riffs.
@@ssRocker-nn3tp I hear that brother. And a GREAT songwriter!
This always reminded me of that typical cool 80's summertime song.
This song was co-written by Frankie Sullivan and Jim Peterik who was the lead singer in The Ides of March. You did their song Vehicle.
This was onve of my favorite song's when i was in high school. 80's love songs are the best!
I was hooked on survivor the first time i heard eye of the tiger and they got better with every song.
The lead singer, was the guy who sang one of the themes from Baywatch....remember that reaction video....That's him. Jimi Jamison!
LOVE HIS VOICE!
Jimi Jamison r.i.p..... "Is it love".... "So many nights in blind confusion
I've walked the line of love
We reach out in disillusion
When one night isn't nearly enough"...Now that's the good stuff 😎🥃
And for some rockin’ tunes from Firehouse, my favorites are “All She Wrote” and “Reach for the Sky.”
Love this! Thank you for taking me down memory lane❤
Love this! Takes me back to high school. Thanks for posting.
"Vital Signs" is one of the greatest radio rock albums of all time...every song is a classic.
"Eye of the Tiger" was indeed this band, but an earlier version with a different singer.
