I would love a ‘marriage’ of Cricut & Glowforge! I have a Maker and I’ve always wanted a Glowforge, but they are very expensive. It would be nice if the merger meant they would be able to get the price down. Can’t wait to hear more about this! ❤

“….better together…..” would be great, but they would totally need to focus on customer service and support. Glowforge is a great hobbyist laser cutter but if a component in the machine fails/breaks, GF is slow and expensive to ship parts with zero assistance to the end user performing the repair at home. All support comes from Facebook groups with members who give graciously of their time to assist end users. That said, don’t you think Cricut needs to continue working on their own internal infrastructure? Cricut has had some software glitches as noted in several of your recent posts. While I agree an acquisition of GF by Cricut would be awesome, Cricut should consider hiring an acquisition specialist to help with the transition, eliminate extraneous employees, and to strengthen overall processes.

I hope this isn't true. If it is the price for a laser is going to skyrocket, I already think cricut machines are expensive for what they are. If cricut acquirers glowforge the price of Glowforge witch is decent now will probably double the price, witch is insane

Cricut needs to fix their DS bugs. We shouldn't have to do work-arounds to nake stuff. Glow Forge has an entry level machine, tge Aura. I just acquired a new/used Xtool D1 Pro. I think Xtool may give Glow Forge a run for their money. The Xtool P2 CO2 laser can be bought for about $4500.

Laser printers were at a high at first. As the decades passed, the price got lower and allowed people to buy a laser printer for home use. I have a feeling that most Cricut users don't buy a $300 to $400 machine on impulse unless they run a profitable business using their Cricut. My
Opinion is that it would take several years to break even with a new and expensive laser product line.

The real thing that's doomed/dooming Glowforge is their "Price Point." The average crafter will never see that and be comfortable paying $7000! In this economy it's not good enough anymore to say, "It's American made" and like zombies we all line up to buy it... There are at least four other great non-American laser companies out there whose products, "like the cell phones and TVs we all use..." are extremely well built, and more powerful for a fraction of the price. Some of them even allow you to use other software to operate them. Given their price point Glowforge "wrongly" thought that they had conrnered the market... And as much as I love my Cricut, they're next if they keep thinking that customers are stupid and will keep paying high prices for "all" their products! V

This will be a fun story to follow from a business/market standpoint. It does seem like a natural progression for the company if they can acquire the company for less than putting out their own machines. Add in the built-in mass market distribution of Cricut, and I can see either the unit prices coming down, or a more mass market friendly model being introduced. I’ll bet it would be the mass market friendly option. Keep us posted on this. While I’m not in the market for a laser machine (nor do I imagine I would be in the future - I just don’t craft enough to justify it), I find this an interesting business case study theory to follow. Only time will tell! 😉

It’s exciting to think of Cricut acquiring Glowforge because I know good instruction videos on lasers is rare and that is so valuable. Cricut needs to fix their software, AND allow export of a design that we create in there. I can see that the artists they have may not want their's exported but if a crafter uses the shapes to create something that is totally from scratch they should be able to export that design, just like silhouette and leonardo do.

I have misgivings about Glowforge. People either love their products or hate them. Ashlee sold me on the xTool P2 and did a side by side to her Glowforge comparison. The lady I follow for earring laser cutting/building also had many problems and claimed she could have rebuilt her Glowforge blindfolded she had to be inside it replacing parts so often. If Glowforge doesn't sell to a more reliable company, I don't see how they are going to survive. As for me, I am in love with the xTool 2.0 Beta software, and with promises to add more improvements going forward, I will stick with them. I tried Lightburn software, and honestly, Cricut software spoiled me. If they get Glowforge and merge their software from Cricut then I will give them very serious consideration.

Not good idea because Cricut merchandise already so pricey and the monopoly system that you can’t export your design and can’t use the modified design when you are no longer a Cricut access member.
For example, Cricut adventure is $1000, then drop to $500 or $600 occasion. That’s right there is telling me that they made a lot profits. Those sell price I am sure they make some profit also.
