Do you know where the word cowboy come from and who was the cowboy or a person who attends to the Cavs and cows they were talking about a black man who cares for the cow and they called the black man (boy).. a lot of American History has been lost on purpose.
@@demetriusfinley5848 Oh there were a *ton* of black cowboys! I wanna say like 1 in 7, though I absolutely do not remember where I heard that number, so.... grain of salt and all that. :)~
I respect cow farmers so much after seeing how much hard work they put into caring for the cows and bulls. I never thought about what a cow farmers life would be like until I came across a few videos a few weeks ago and today finding your video. Is it normal for cows birthing to be difficult? Many videos I have seen so far look like some have a hard time giving birth. Also, the poor bill calf looked extremely dry, never seen something like that before.
Not normal at all. Out of 40 cows that calved for us this spring, this was the only calf we had to pull. This one was very dry as a result of it dying probably a day or two (maybe longer) before the mother started to show signs that something was wrong. Thanks for watching!
Hahahaha! I love how the little calf thinks you’re its mother. 🤣 Too cute. I hope the other Momma has a successful recovery. I can’t imagine how bad the smell was. 🥺
Yeah, she’s been fairly attentive to the calf but she isn’t too protective. I really prefer them to be a little more protective than her. Thanks for watching!
🇨🇦Somehow came across this video. Lol. But watched with a mixture of gruesome horror and fascination what you have to go through on the farm. Glad to see in the comments that the momma recovered and the other baby only needed supplemental milk for another week. Tough life for sure, but we appreciate all our hard working farmer's and ranchers do for us city folk so we can enjoy easy food from our grocery stores. Keep up the great work and thank you once again! 💖
Gosh dang I'm so sorry about the calf But I wanted to say you did a beautiful job with her best you could My Dad (RIP lost him last October) Used to raise cows And I just loved how you handled her Thank you Edit Also great job with black 🖤 and white 🤍 face baby!!
I live in a rural area in SWern VA and have been around a few farm animals.Watching these type videos have helped my "gag reflex". I enjoy watching but hated to see that big calf dead.
Sometimes they do seem to realize that we are trying to help. They have a natural fear of humans, but our daily interactions with them have most of them very calm with being handled.
hi. i’m a new sub. Oh that poor cow. sorry you lost the calf. hope mama cow will be okay. glad you opened that abscess on the little one. she was still hungry. won’t she need more milk than that half bottle? is that mama giving at least a little milk? that poor baby was starving. you said you have to work. what else do you do? thanks so much for sharing!
The cow ended up making a full recovery. The bottle calf is still nursing it’s mother, but she didn’t have much milk. We’ve actually since quit supplementing her with the bottle because she got to where she’d barely take anything. I think that cow was probably milking better than we gave her credit for. My day job is a dog & cat vet. Thanks for watching!
Oh my goodness….This is the first time I’ve ever watched anything like this…your video came up on UTube….I almost cried when the Momma cow was so upset when you were treating her baby…you do such good work in helping these animals ❤️
I just got your video in my feed. I love how you really care about what you do. You talk to your cattle like they are one of your kids. 😊 How did the mama do after you were able to get her calf? I hope you didn’t lose her. How about the little one with the abscess? Did her mommy ever her milk in? Great video!
Thanks for watching! Fortunately, this cow did make a full recovery. The baby with the abscess is doing great and we have been able to stop supplementing with the bottle.
I know the smell and once you have smelled necrotic tissue and abscesses/pus/drainage of all types to manure you never forget the smell and can very quickly identify it. I walk onto a farm and I can tell what animals they have from the manure smells and everyone says "how did you know that?" because at one point I have shoveled it and had to deal with the animal. Necrotic tissue like he mentions in the video is a scent that lasts and it lingers on you and you feel/smell like you need a decontamination shower before you go in the house and sometimes we would just undress and use the hose from the house to wash ourselves and possibly our coveralls or you roll them up and they go into the wash immediately. You walk into the house in your skippies having an outdoor shower with the hose because your family (for me a Mom) wont let you sit on the couch otherwise.
Only those who have had the need and responsibility to do this really understand how much you want to help and just how hard and difficult it is to do. The aroma challenges everyone.
Hello to you AWESOME folks of Hurricane Creek Farms! Brand new sub!! I love the graphic (blood & guts!lol) things!! Anything that could be deemed "medical!" I have a 20 year career in mental health (worked in a mental institution!lol), HEY! I HEARD THAT!! Someone in the back ROLLED THEIR EYES VERY LOUDLY & said "Well, THAT explains a lot!" lmao Over the years I've accumulated a lot of medical knowledge/experience, as well! Both subjects fascinate me & I try to NEVER stop LEARNING!! A great deal of the medical training has come in EXTREMELY handy! I've WITNESSED car accidents, have stopped & helped at MANY accident scenes (Ok, who am I kidding! I stop at every single one that I see!lol) & at EVERY scene, I was the ONLY person that had ANY training!! Anyway, I love seeing HOW procedures are done, animal OR HUMAN!! And, with humans, I analyze EVERYONE!lol The psychology of ppl & figuring out what makes them tick, is my favorite!lol. I know it's probably too late now, but, in a case like the cow that's not making milk for the calf and, since you ALSO just had a calf that wasn't alive, is it possible to milk the mother of the stillborn & use THAT in the bottle to feed calves in trouble?! I know it's happened when a cow that miscarried, will sort of adopt the calf & let them nurse, but, if mommy is that protective of her baby ALREADY, she probably wouldn't tolerate her calf nursing from the other cow? Just a couple of thoughts/questions that popped into my little coconut! And, I'm an OLD FART, so I HAVE to blurt things out, or I'll forget! lol
Yes, that is an idea that could work. An orphaned calf can also sometimes be grafted onto a cow that may have lost her calf. Or, if a cow has twins around the same time another loses a calf, you can try that. That’s even better if you can get them to do all the work for you! Thanks for watching!
I'm really sorry you had to do this hopefully she is ok in the end. You likey saved her life. Found uour channel this morning and respect your care of your animals.
I know being a farmer isn’t a mentally easy profession by any means, but that must’ve been a really hard day. Not only losing a calf, but also having the would be momma in such a precarious condition
Yeah, but she’s a big ol cow. I think she could’ve handled the size alone. She prolapsed a few weeks prior to this and I think the fetal death was a result of that. Then, that big, dry fetus created the perfect situation for dystocia. Thanks for watching!

Same. Gosh. It's amazing with what you can learn.
For sharing. Wish you success with your cows and calves.
Pulling out a dead, dry baby is extremely difficult! Lots of lube required. You did well!
Thank you & thanks for watching!
Oh sorry for loss of. .mommy calf Sir you are amazing man God bless you and your family and your animals 🙏❤♥🙌😊💙🙏
Thanks for watching!
Calf-jack! I'd never heard of that--that's ingenious! Aoh, poor sweet mama. Glad she's got you looking after her. :)
Thankfully, we don’t have to use it very often! Thanks for watching
Found your channel by chance and have subscribed. Married a city boy but my heart is with the cows. You did well. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you & thanks for watching!
The calf was dead. Normally they are slimy and lively which helps a TON with making delivery easy. This isn't typical.
I love watching these videos. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you could enjoy it and thanks for watching!
Hahahaha! I love how the little calf thinks you’re its mother. 🤣 Too cute. I hope the other Momma has a successful recovery. I can’t imagine how bad the smell was. 🥺
Fortunately, she did make a full recovery. Thanks for watching
Abscess would impair suckling ability too.
@@susanmarsh4351 yeah, that was a concern. Fortunately, she never had any issues in that regard.
Thank you for sharing.
@@JbirdL2233 thanks for watching!
What a great video-thank you for the share. That is one big calf you pulled.
Thanks for watching!
The ups and downs of farm life. You seem to have a good handle on things.
Thanks! It doesn’t always seem like it, but our problems are generally small compared to what some folks are dealing with. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for show all you do!!!
She's one quiet momma usually they won't let you near their calf Be careful never turn away from cattle that's what the farmers say here Stay safe
Thanks!
Gosh dang
I'm so sorry about the calf
But I wanted to say you did a beautiful job with her best you could
My Dad (RIP lost him last October)
Used to raise cows
And I just loved how you handled her
Thank you
Edit
Also great job with black 🖤 and white 🤍 face baby!!
Thank you & thanks for watching
I live in a rural area in SWern VA and have been around a few farm animals.Watching these type videos have helped my "gag reflex". I enjoy watching but hated to see that big calf dead.
You can really see the trust in you that they have.
Sometimes they do seem to realize that we are trying to help. They have a natural fear of humans, but our daily interactions with them have most of them very calm with being handled.
🙏🙏🙏🙏bless you, hoping she pulls through sorry for your loss 🙏🙏
Thank you! And we can report that she did make a full recovery.
Poor momma...but so glad she is going to be ok
Yes, that was the one silver lining. Thanks for watching
So sad, I’m glad you helped her as much as you could.
Yeah, it’s a bad situation. We obviously focus on making the best of it. Fortunately, she was able to make a full recovery. Thanks for watching!
hi. i’m a new sub.
@@HurricaneCreekFarms wow. Busy life, fella! We love watching
Oh my goodness….This is the first time I’ve ever watched anything like this…your video came up on UTube….I almost cried when the Momma cow was so upset when you were treating her baby…you do such good work in helping these animals ❤️
Thank you
I just got your video in my feed.
New sub from Florida! What a great gentle man you are!
I don’t know that I’m anything great, but just trying to be a little better than I was yesterday! Thanks for watching & subscribing!
Well said. Thanks for watching
Only those who have had the need and responsibility to do this really understand how much you want to help and just how hard and difficult it is to do. The aroma challenges everyone.
Y'all should keep a washer and dryer in the garage with a shower. What my rancher relatives do.
Talk about a dry birth. I could here your voice crack'en. I envy your strength. God bless you
Hello to you AWESOME folks of Hurricane Creek Farms!
I had many years of night shift at the nuthouse. Retired from state mental hospital. I had some amazing experiences.
I'm really sorry you had to do this hopefully she is ok in the end. You likey saved her life. Found uour channel this morning and respect your care of your animals.
Thank you! And we can report that she did make a full recovery
Welp I was not familiar with the term "pulling a calf" but I sure as heck know now. I initially came for the abscess 😆
It’s not much fun other than the rare occasion when the calf is still alive. Thanks for watching
So good for the soul to see such a caring person raising animals
Thank you!
I know being a farmer isn’t a mentally easy profession by any means, but that must’ve been a really hard day. Not only losing a calf, but also having the would be momma in such a precarious condition
Yes, it can be tough. Fortunately, this cow did go on to make a full recovery
I'm so happy to hear Momma made a recovery. It was sad enough the calf was dead.
That’s a good sized calf! No wonder she was struggling with it!
Yeah, but she’s a big ol cow. I think she could’ve handled the size alone. She prolapsed a few weeks prior to this and I think the fetal death was a result of that. Then, that big, dry fetus created the perfect situation for dystocia. Thanks for watching!
Just found your channel. God Bless you for helping these cows. Sorry about the baby calf that did not make it.Hope all works out well and I just subscribed. Thankyou for sharing.
Thanks for watching. Fortunately, the cow did at least end up making a full recovery.
Good job ..I've done prolapse before... ugh 😩...it was sad. I love cattle
Yeah, they aren’t much fun for any of those involved. Thanks for watching!
I hope your cow gets better, sorry you had to do this sorry she had to go through this
Thank you & she did make a full recovery!
