My dad had 1 rule of many. All animals eat before you do in the morning. You might have to get up earlier if you want to eat and take shower before school. It up to you. 😂😂😂 He meant it too
That’s generally our approach as well. Some days we do eat an early breakfast before getting to chores

I built one almost identical to that a year ago...looks like a copy of mine...I had it on UA-cam also.
Yeah, someone skilled at fabrication could make one very similar. I do like the front and rear access doors and the fold down floor will be nice to use if we ever need to transport one back to the barn.

They see themselves in your sunglasses lol and decide to charge the cow. The last cow that got that close to her left barehoofed and pregnant.
Maybe they are attacking the reflection. Sunglasses definitely a common denominator with these ladies all of a sudden being aggressive!

That is a sign he is Mechanically inclined. Comes from both parents and from what I read it can’t be fought. Not saying everyone gets better but if you have it then it will come easier to him. Good deal and I like the calf catcher. Don’t know how much one is new but could build one easy especially without the floor deal. Could save your life at some point

We vaccinate, ear tag and band bull calves day of birth if at all possible. out of 14 todate we have only missed one this year and it was a heifer, i'll catch it up in the barn lane and get it into the catch pen soon maybe. Love the calf catcher, but our place we have a lot of holler's, valleys and wooded areas that would totally not work well in, we do keep our heifers up near the barn and catch pen while they calf out and check them once during the night before bed and early day light. had to assist one about a week ago during daylight hrs, all ways good. Love your video's. gotta be careful they can be on ya before you know it.
Yeah, our terrain sounds pretty similar. We’ll plan to use the calf catcher when we can and when we have to. I have a pretty good idea of which cows will require it and which ones won’t. Lots of ours go into the timber to calve, which is better than in the mud, but we won’t be able to use it on those calves until they bring them out.
My 14 year old son and I love watching your channel, if you decide to name your calf’s please consider my sons name Bryce to name one of your baby bulls, he would freak out, thanks keep up the good work
I can do that. I’m not hoping for a bottle calf, but if we have a bull bottle calf, we’ll do it. Those are usually the only ones with names!

Bobby Lee, this may be a stupid question, but does the red Hereford mom with the swelled up utter have mastitis? Looks like it to me and probably why she's not letting baby nurse much.?? Got some sweet little calves and more to come!!!👍
No, she just balloons out on the front two quarters. No inflammation/infection. Definitely not a desirable bag for nursing, but she has always raised a good calf. She’s one we may not want to keep heifers out of because of that trait

How many rolls of hay do your cattle eat in a day?
Our cowherd was eating about 1.5 to 2 rolls (4x5) every day. That’s 42 mama cows

I haven’t cleaned stalls in a while. They usually handle those chores. The horses usually are only stalled long enough for them to eat their grain, so not a lot of cleaning every day.
Why aren't you breeding Hereford cows to Hereford bulls?
The market says they must be black if you want maximum returns. Angus-Hereford baldy calves or Brangus-Hereford “super baldies” are very desirable crosses for feeder calves and even replacement heifers. We tinkered with going the registered Hereford route for a bit, but we didn’t have the numbers and check all the boxes to maximize the value there. Our environment here in the south makes the Brahman-influenced calves more efficient as well.
Too bad for the Hereford breed and the Hereford female. The Angus Association did a tremendous Ad campaign. When the meat is on the hook no one can tell the difference, so the Hereford breed that settled the west and was revered for all of it great qualities and traits is being turned into a panda eyed cancelled beef breed. There still is nothing more beautiful than a herd of Hereford cattle in a pasture of green grass any where. Understand that you need the most profit return for your work efforts. Hope you will join the future fight to continue to eat beef. The left wants you to consume imported camel and kangaroo in the future. Stay safe! ❤@@HurricaneCreekFarms

DUMB QUESTION OF THE DAY: Whats that gel you keep speaking of?? I think you said it goes in the mouth! What is it and what does it do? SECOND DUMB QUESTION: Are calfs and sheep similar?? As in.. When sheep are born the farmer has to dunk there umbilical cords with iodine so no infection gets in there! Do you have to do that to your calfs? Sorry i dont know what animals have belly buttons or not!! 🤷🏼🤣🤣🤣🤣 Also got a bone to pick with you Bobby!! I came here almost a year ago to see babies being born and your like half way done calving already and we still havent seen any babies being born yet from like start to finish!! 😭😭😭 You always tell us after the fact! I NEED to see the babies being born Bobby not you telling us after the fact!!! 😂😂😂 I think you should invest in some cameras and put them around your property that way we dont miss every birth anymore! Lol As usual thanks for sharing hun and ill just be over here praying to god we get to see atleast just ONE baby being born before caving season is over!! Lol 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Optimizer gel.
Optimizer calf gel. It is a probiotic, vitamin, and protein gel that helps to prevent scours. We haven't had major scouring issues in the past, but its less than $3/dose and if it prevents one dead calf every 5 years, its worth it. Dipping navels isn't a common practice with cattle, especially calving out on pasture where it is generally less contaminated than calving in a barn or pens. Cattle are definitely much more hardy than sheep. My buddy that previously raised sheep always says they are born, lift up their head, and immediately start looking for a place to die! We've caught a few in the act of calving over the years, but, when things go like they should, it typically happens so fast that you miss it. We'll keep trying!

Your animals look very very skinny
I’m not sure which ones you are referencing. The cattle are all in ideal body condition for calving and lactation. At this point in the year, they were fed free choice hay & protein lick tubs, along with roughly 3lbs/head/day of 13% mixed ration. They are pretty spoiled.
