  • In this video we are going to show you how to install a Thinkware X1000 Dash Cam on our Ram 3500. We used the rear camera as a cab overview camera since we won't be able to see out the back due to a truck camper being in the bed of the truck. Thinkware was gracious enough to send us their camera to review and show how we use it on our vehicle. Feel free to comment any questions you may have below. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for the video, it was helpful. Couple things I learned while doing this project on my 2022 Ram 3500.
When you remove the (2) 8mm bolts, there's actually (2) plastic clips that can easily be released to avoid them breaking. Just look up where you're removing the bolts and you'll see the tabs.
Another thing I learned, if you remove the two sun visor clips after the middle 8mm bolt the headliner drops down a lot more, and that'll give you more room to route the wire. Nothing is tight, and nothing needs to be wedged.
The last thing I learned, and it could be a difference between the 2020 and 2022, but the wire description was backwards, the pink wire w/ yellow stripe is actually the switched 12V, and solid red is the hot 12V. Again, this could be a difference between the model years, just get a multi meter and verify.
Hopefully this will help anyone that's looking to do a clean dash cam or radar detector wiring set up.

What he said. Unfortunately I didn't read this comment until after I had broken the clips. I did check the wires and realized they're backwards also. 2023 2500

the pink wire w/ yellow stripe is actually the switched 12V, and solid red is the hot 12V. This was the correct wiring in my ram power wagon 2019

I really appreciate this video. Will be installing a Viofo dash cam in my 2024 Limited. I did notice that the rear tabs on the overhead console are angled. Chrysler likes to angle some of their plastic tabs. So you have to pull the front down and slide it slightly away from the windshield.
Once again, thank you - thank you - thank you

Those two tabs are clips. If you push down on them after removing the bolts, the whole assembly drops down with gentle pressure.
In my 2024, the constant 12vdc times out. Couldn’t find a constant 12vdc without cutting into the smaller grey harness. I preferred not to do the in testing. I’ll use a needle probe to test that one later. I used the black harness for my switch and 12vdc (times out after 1 min or less). Camera works fine during driving.

Hey! I'm not sure - it would be best to reach out to the company to make sure it can be used with the same setup. Thanks!
