Good tracing it to a wire that's not fully connected. I build these trucks in Sterling Heights, Mi and I see obviously your vehicle left the assembly plant and made it all the way to the dealership with flaws. You probably save two or more days trying to get your truck repaired at the dealership. Management can't stress enough on telling the workers in the trim department to make sure you hear a click when putting these harnesses in but when you only got 45sec to complete your job and prepare for the next one I can see how 1 or more slip by but there are 2 quality checks to see if the truck goes to repair in house before shipping, but anywho great job!!!
Thanks for the work you do.. I am a mechanic so I can appreciate the workers on the line. I have been to the plants and it amazes me to watch them drive off the line so fast with no issues. If most could understand how many components, connectors and programming goes into these vehicles. It amazes me how many start right up with no issues. Also the fact that they receive a truck with less than 10 miles in most cases and it is so dependable and ready with zero testing on the unit. Thanks again for what you do!!!
Great video. My trailer camera arrived today and I plan on putting the camera on the back of my roof top tent which currently blocks the camera in the third brake light. This should really improve my view while driving. Thanks for the comprehensive video.
Excellent video Rocky. Your experience is adding huge value to those of us coming after you. My loaded 3500 SRW CTD HO Limited with all tow camera packages is currently sitting in the rail yard awaiting the final 20 mile transport to the dealer. Almost there. Your truck looks frickin' sick man! Well done!
Thanks for this detailed walkthrough. Now I just have to find a dealer who can order two of these. I ordered my 3500 before this was an option and didn't want to change it to delay delivery. Even then it was 6 months from order to delivery.
Great video! Thank you very much for taking the time and the great HANDS ON camera views that clearly show exactly where to check first, second, third! Hoping our Ram 5500 Limited order doesnt have these issues but if it does, I now know exactly where to troubleshoot!
pretty crappy you had to tear it all apart for it to work! But I bet you were happy you got it working, Great video. I wish the camera was wireless, then I could transfer it from trailer to trailer, no desire to run this on any of my trailers as I dont have an RV. I imagine that is their main audience with this camera though., RV'ers. I ordered a 22 2500 Limited mega, cummins, level 1, night edition, bright white, level 1. Its on its second train now.
Yeah man I have been to these plants and seen the assembly line.. it’s amazing to me to see how many trucks fire up and roll off the line with zero issues.. I am a mechanic and understand these things happen. I am sure someone is going to make a wireless module that plugs into bumper and a cam that uses power pre wire. I have had glitchy wireless cams.. it’s worth it to me to be hard wired.
@@RockyRohde Awesome video man i was interested as soon as i saw this video as i order this myself. i wasnt sure how long the cord was i believe you said it was about 50 feet which is cool. but how do you run that back to the end of your trailer? do you just run that cord on the top of the trailer or just on the side?
I appreciate your making this video. I'm trying to order a trailer camera for 2023 Ram 3500/ Grand Design Momentum, but several vendors are saying that part number "does not work with selected vehicle" I would think it most likely does, but it would be nice to know for sure before ordering.
Rocky Rohde, great explanation on how this camera works, today my dealer told me that my '22 Laramie 2500 was lacking the module that operates this camera from the factory and it is not fixable. I had ordered the truck with the trailer tow wire and camera in 2022. They claim this camera is operated through the Uconnect 5 system like all the rest of the cameras but this camera lacked the module. This sounded a bit odd and since my camera did work intermittently I was skeptical. After watching your video this morning I began to trace the wires starting from the bumper. Immediately I located a short in the wire connector that connects to the camera wire port on the bumper. By wiggling this connector the camera would work intermittently. It looks like the short is in the connector on the wire that attaches to the camera wire port. I think I can simply replace the focker connector sp? on the end of the wire from the harness. Can you provide me with the correct spelling for this connector? Regards, Joe
Rocky, great video. I am trying to get the same camera-it was not available when I ordered my 2022 Big Horn-same as your situation. I talked to my dealership and nobody seems to know what I am talking about. I have the tow prep package and have the DRVM and the jack in the rear bumper. Did you order the camera from Mopar or is it after market?
Very informative video. I just bought a 2022 Bighorn Ram with the trailer rear view mirror. Where did you get the trailer camera, I have tried several ram sites and have not been able to find that part number camera.
Hey Rocky, think the Tow Mode camera would provide the same/similar view as the CHMSL camera? I bought a 2nd CHMSL camera to mount on the back of my topper but now realize I might be able to simply mount a Tow Mode camera to the back of the topper. Thoughts?
Do you have a video of the actual camera install on your RV? I have the camera kit and taking delivery of a 5th wheel in a few days that's pre-wired for a camera. I assume I won't need to long cable that came with the camera kit, but not sure. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
I have the Mopar digital camera but am beginning to believe that there is only one camera input at the rear of the camera. Are there any photos of the cabling at the rear of the rearview mirror showing what I should be seeing?
Excellent video! Is that Mopar camera the only one that will work with this setup? I wasn't sure what would happen if you ran a different camera into that connection. Thanks!
Do you have the part number for the camera kit you’re using? I am going to swap my 1500 single input digital mirror to a two input mirror and run the line to my bumper for a trailer cam. There was mention in a forum of a specific camera that works with that.
Thanks for being so knowledgable about this topic. Got a question? Would I be able to have the trailer side view camera on at all times while driving. It turns off usually after about 7-10 seconds.
Awesome video!! I have a 21’ TRX with digital mirror I am trying to add a trailer cam as well. I just noticed my rear view has 1 fakra port. Wondering if I swap out my rear view mirror with a 3500 mirror I can use 2 cameras?
Did you have any other issues with certain options when you ordered? I just ordered a 2500 Limited and couldn’t get the Harmon Kardon, adaptive cruise, or the camera mirror. For some reason the Limited Level 1 Equip Group is no longer available. 🤦🏻♂️
@@RockyRohde crap really?? I have the tpms and thats a big letdown!! I was hoping i could just plug the trailer back in and it would detect the tire pressure
I ordered the digital rearview and camera kit but my truck did not get delivered with the port. The dealer can't find the part number for the bumper port. Any assistance would be appreciated.
I am having the same problem, I ordered the digital rear view and camera kit but my truck did not get delivered with the port. The dealer can't find the part number for the bumper port. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Talk about cameras on the Dodge Rams when you start backing it’s supposed to stop before it hits something it did not do it for my truck. Now I got pay the price to get it fixed but they will pay the price when they do not get money when people to buy their trucks. Many people think Dodge trucks are junk now.
If I have the digital rearview mirror but not the bumper port, could I in theory order that part P68527599AA, wire it up directly, and add a disconnect at the bumper? My whole setup is less than 50’ so it should reach.

I just ran the cable along the frame under the rv. Just make sure to keep it tied up so wind doesn’t flap cable. I drilled hole in the floor in the back corner of rv and run it up the wall in some wall cable cover. Pulling with it is amazing.. lane changes and judging speed of other traffic is 100% on point..
Hey man great video I just have one question on the digital rear view mirror if you plug the trailer camera can you see both the rear view and the trailer camera at the same time?
Hi , I liked your easy fix in the trailer camera, do you know how to fix the cargo camera? The truck came with this option but when I press the cargo , it showed camera not available, the dealership said is a software update issue, thank you for your help
Are you able to view the cargo cam located in the CHMSL on uconnect screen? I have a 2022 1500 limited with the surround view camera system but don't see the icon to activate the cargo cam
It's easy, just set the module on the tail gate for test purposes, plug in the four color coded camera's and cable to the port on your bumper or underneath depending where it's located next to the 7 pin connection. Uconnect5 will recognize the surround module. Go to vehicle/settings and select camera's then trailer surround camera to set your options. Also you can go into trailer option just above camera and you can set your trailer options, type/length of trailer for bind spot , types of brakes.
This also happens to people like me that order the camera is supposed to be working the right way which it was not that’s why I end up having a wreck with it. Now I have to pay do you have it fixed because I did not do the job the right way installing them.
