Winter fatigue is best cured by going south and and summer fatigue is best cured by going north. South is great for a warm up but there’s nothing quite like the tranquility of the north woods imho 🍻

I forgot to add a little wisdom of the ageing process. I'm almost 80 and my life is still full of things to do and when I get to the point of limited abilities it will be time to enjoy the memories of all the things we did and places we seen. I don't worry about the things I can't do, I'm to busy doing the things I can do. The Lord has made our life a glass full of everything that we could handle and love.

You know the old saying...youth is wasted on the young. After a friend died only months into retirement, I decided at 54 it was time. I bought a 22’ motor home and took off while I was young enough to do it. Been retired 7 years now and no regrets. Enjoy whatever you’re doing (or not doing) to it’s fullest. You never know when your time is up. Please keep us up to date on your adventures.

Hey JC, As a long term Boss follower and a 60 year former NH resident who was born in Hanover and has lived in Virginia for almost 20 years now, I think you are making a great choice. My wife (who also enjoys your videos) and I made a similar move at about the same age and we have no regrets. I can't speak to how financially retirement friendly the other two states you are considering will be but after 17+ years we have found that to be the case in VA. Our primary reason for moving south was to be closer to my wife's three grandchildren (who are now all adults). We settled near the Richmond area and we love it! In fact as we grew older (I'm 78, wife is 76) we are increasingly happy we are in close proximity to the many superb medical facilities the Richmond area has to offer. As a service brat I have lived in several states and multiple NH locations but , prior to VA, my wife lived her whole life in Hudson, NH. If fact we had a house in Hudson for about 10 years prior to VA. As we did in Hudson we live in a country setting (Zoned agricultural) 15+ miles outside Richmond. We are only 3 miles from the junctions of I-95 and I-64 southeast of the city so travel in all directions is extremely easy (although we do tend to avoid I-95 north of Richmond at times). Virginia, as are NC and TN, is beautiful state and has everything NH offers in terms of urban living and wilderness. If you live in the mountains there can be some less frequent and long lasting NH like winter weather. When I describe our current location to NH folks I tell them it's like living in NH but with far less of the extreme winter weather issues. I wish you good luck and safe travels in your quest. If you and the missus are ever in the Richmond area and miss hearing the NH accent you should know we have a wine rack, a cozy guest room with bath, and a screen porch (which will usable again as soon as pollen season is over and it's been pressure washed) so feel free to make contact. Happy trails and good luck, your NH place is beautiful but I believe you can be happy down here too! If and when you move I do hope you continue to post your VLOG's once you get settled.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and information. We love where we live and mast likely will always live in this area but some winter getaways are long overdue. I've chased and conquered my dreams all my life but we have a few things left on the bucket list. Experiencing a warmer climate for a few months of winter is one of them. If we fall in love with the area, we may transplant ourselves there for good. It won't be the first time that we pull up roots. We'll be travelling with no expectations and be like feathers in the wind for a while :-))

I am sorry to see that you want to possibly leave the NH area. There is good fishing, hunting, and hiking as well as boating those states. TN is the only state out of the three you are going to with a tax structure like New Hampshire. God Bless and God Speed on your journey.

Hi Guys! We left NY in 2007 when my husband retired. Living in Eastern North Carolina is great! Home/land prices, land taxes, home/auto insurances are all a fraction of what we paid in NY. And there are many areas where you can spread out, much land available in the east...lakes, rivers, ocean and the sound is here. Enjoy doing your research!

I am glad to hear that you are looking at life a little differently now. The older we get, the more we desire to be happy and content. We work until we are older and most never get to slow down a bit. My dad resided in Winchester and then Stephenson VA . He was originally from Pittsburgh PA. The weather temps were always warmer and both places were wonderful to live in. You can always buy land and a home wherever you want to be. Just something smaller so you do not have to work so hard every day. Hi Lori, I miss seeing you. May our Lord guide you and bless your new adventure.

You will never reach an age that you are content. The problem is the older you get the less you can do, that is a fact. With age comes illness, mind or body some times both. Giving up a life that you know you won't be able to maintain when you reach old age is very difficult. Dick Proenneke never wrote about what he did after he left Alaska, was it because he gave up on the life he enjoyed so much? Everyone of us get tired of being cooped up during the Winter Months, we shouldn't let the winter make choices in life for ourselves. I'm 64 and I know only what I remember.

I’ve been watching you guys for years. I grew up in Pennsylvania, went to college in Connecticut. Started a family there, at that time we decided to move to North Carolina… fast forward 17 years. We still have a house in Connecticut that we go to a couple times a year but North Carolina is home. I’m not sure there is too much brain to pick. The weather alone is worth the move. Growing season is fantastic. We live in Ruffin NC, middle of the state (east to west) and about 15 miles from the Virginia border. As I write this I’m currently in my garage, door open, tee shirt on listening to the birds as my nose drips from all the fresh sprouted green… I’d gladly answer anything I could. God bless

I'm in East Tennessee , little closer to Chattanooga than Knoxville . North Georgia , Western North Carolina , East Tennessee is a wonderful area , and offers everything in outdoor scenery . The Ocoee river/Hiwassee river system drains parts of Georgia , and Western North Carolina , flows into the Tennessee river . The Ocoee was a site of Olympic Kayaking in the recent past . Black bears come down out of the mountains in the spring , I've had them run within eight to ten feet of me . Sometimes big cats are spotted in farm fields . The old time people are friendly , but the area has become a magnet to folks leaving the cities , and that is driving up real estate . I prefer south of Knoxville to north of
Knoxville because of tourists and swelling population .
The area you named is good choice . I was born in Bradley county , Tn and lived here most of my life , so I got my prejudice . Good luck !

Not too hot in summer, not too cold in winter. Of course that varies a bit depending on just where you settle. I'm near Franklin in the mts so a little farther north obviously gets more snow. Cold gets into your bones when you get older, and it's not a good fealing. Where your talking is different than where I'm at because you'd be in the middle of the Appalachian mountains. You'll still have some of the weather like there but warmer weather also.

My family and I have lived in Southwest Virginia our whole lives. If you are interested in hiking, fishing, hunting and being close to South Holsten Lake, areas to look at would be Konnarock, Damascus, Grayson County, Sugar Grove, VA. We hope you enjoy your time here and decide to stay!

@@thebossoftheswamp your welcome, i listed those areas as they are already more secluded as well, being about 20 or more minutes out of city/town areas, but surely wrapped with beautiful forestry and mountains

28 years in middle Tennessee from upstate New York. Worst part here is the humid/hot summers. The current price of real estate is ridiculous especially in this area. Perhaps the price in NE Tennessee won't be so bad along with the humidity in the summer. NO STATE INCOME TAX is a win and open carry and no government overreach. Love your videos...

Seneca, SC on the far western edge and Brevard, NC. TN is beautiful with low taxes, but also no zoning.

Tennessee is good when it comes to taxes on land it looks like. And a more conservative state than others. I would love to live there. All the best with that Jim.

My husband and I looked for land in the Jefferson/West Jefferson, NC area but land was so expensive there. We crossed over into southwest VA where land was a lot less expensive. We chose VA, in the Blue Ridge Mountains and it's absolutely beautiful, with New River about 5-10 minutes up the road. We have 51 acres, which we purchased for what 2 acres in NC was going to cost! I really enjoy watching your videos and getting ideas for what we might do on our land when we retire there...and I've purchased a piece of your artwork to go in our mountain house. I wish you the best with your land search and good health for you both.

Used to live in Kingsport Tennessee back in the 90s, Loved the rolling hills and the rivers. Power was super cheap because of the TVA, not sure if that's changed. I remember the summer being very hot and humid, just the way I like it!
